Periperi Chicken with sides and Falafel
    Jeffrey L.

Peri Peri as history tells was originated from Mozambique and eventually made its way across the border of South Africa until it was discovered by the Portuguese explorers in the 20th Century. Tribos Peri Peri in Metuchen have showcased this rich flavorful Mozambique spice. I have been here twice and their Peri Peri chicken have exceeded my expectations with chicken recipes. Their Peri peri chicken was juicy, tasty and flavorful. We have tried their mixed combos of Legs/Thighs and Breast together with steamed veggies and rice. We also had the Falafel as appetizers. Overall the food was amazing, the service was great and the restaurant was relaxing with all their colorful wall designs. My friend and I really enjoyed our dining experience here and will definitely go back soon.

We went with our son for dinner here. They're not busy on a Saturday night. We ordered their original whole chicken platter with two large sides of potato salad and fried yucca fries. The chicken were marinated, taste delicious. The two large sides of potato salad taste great, while the fried yucca fries were seasoned to taste. Serving staff are friendly and helpful. This place is well lighted and uniquely decorated. I will try their grilled lamb next time.

I've been wanting to go to Tribos for quite a while, but I usually only think of it when I'm already headed to another restaurant in Metuchen. I am familiar with Nandos Peri Peri and always try to eat at one anytime I'm in Illinois, so I was really excited to know I had a Peri Peri spot closer to where I live in NJ! This hit the spot. I ordered with a few coworkers, all who had never had Peri Peri chicken before. They were all pleasantly acquainted with this cuisine after I brought back our food! The chips are delicious. Not soggy or too hard, but just right! The paneer appetizer I wasn't crazy about, the paneer was pretty dried out so that was disappointing but it was also the only negative with my meal and wasn't that bad. I ordered the chicken sandwich and seasoned yuca fries. The chicken sandwich was the best that I've had in a LONG time. I ordered the fried chicken and it had a perfect crisp coating and the chicken inside was not dried out at all. The only drawback is the meals for pricey pretty quickly. Yes it's high quality, he's it's in Metuchen, but I would still consider this fast food and our bill didn't quite reflect that. Would be nice if there were more "combo" options.

Have been in central NJ for more than a decade and visiting this place first time ! What. A shame ! It was just one of those kinds of amazing foooooood ... im a big fan of Peri Peri and this one is better than nandos :) Ordered my fav Extra Spicy PERI PERi and it wAssssss kick ass spicy . Lovedddddd it . Nice and juicy it was . We also ordered rice with felafel and it was sooooooooo good . Never had such good felafels in Central Nj ! Very goof service and quick food . It's a bit expensive though. They also charge for rice on sides or anything else . I wish they had atleast the rice along with the Peri peri chicken , just as they had it for felafel . Costed about 46& for 2 of us . Yeah . A little over what we thought , but it's worth for the taste of the food ! Will surely come back again Superb indoor space . Lots of seats and ample space . Nice and clean restrooms .. parking is a little crazy in this area... overall a very good experience... ..

    Half Chicken - All Dark

Recently went to Tribos peri peri and it was very good. Especially the Chicken dark meat and the chicken bowl. The service was pretty fast and the sides pair nicely with the food. Such as the jalapeño poppers, peri fries, and peri corn. To round the food make sure you get the peri mayo and the garlic sauce.

My almost $20 House salad with added chicken- what a joke!

After a long day at supercharged, the kids I were hungry and I always try to support local Halal small businesses. Besides, I've been to peri peri many times (not at this location) and I figured it would be a solid choice. The kids and I spend over 90$ and the only thing that was tasty was the wings!! I was really disappointed at the fact that they're not even trying. My receipt says one thing and I got another. The macaroni and cheese had no flavor and my daughter said it tasted like glue. I feel like it had to have come from a can just like their salad toppings...bc ewe! I kindly let our waitress know that something was wrong with this reheated mac and cheese and we asked to return it--but was still charged for it. Fine, on top of that, I like to leave a cash tip Upon doing so I later looked at my receipt and was already charged 18% gratuity, which is kind of ridiculous especially because the service and food were so subpar. My son ate the burger I guess it was OK- but he eats anything- The salad was soggy and drenched in Italian dressing. The yuca fries were dry and their "chicken tenders" were just pieces of boiled chicken. The worst part is they completely forgot about one of my daughter's order--- that really pissed me off! So then I asked for it to go- (big mistake) they gave her that damn plain boiled chicken they. Call tenders and no sauce! Why ask if you won't give it? Lol "Ramisha" promised to take care of the extra charges but never did- unbelievable! Stick to other peri peri locations because this was so nasty!

This place is a must try. I had the crispy Chicken sandwich with a side of fries and rice. The sandwich may be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The mild sauce definitely had some kick. The fries were crispy and fried to perfection. The rice was fragrant and flavorful. This was delicious. Perfect for lunch. Did I mention the crispy chicken sandwich was incredible?!?!

My parents and I ordered take out for the first time and loved it! My mom got a chicken pita, my dad got the chicken sizzler, and I got lemon herb chicken tenders and a Caesar salad. I got hot sauce on the side because I'm a chili head, and it was very spicy and delicious! There was so much flavor in everything and the chicken was cooked perfectly, not dry at all. The portions were great and the prices were pretty fair. The employee who helped me was super nice as well. The interior is spacious and cute so I definitely want to go back and dine in!

Lamb Chops 4 Pieces with medium sauce

Tribos Peri Peri is delicious! I'm a long time lover of Nando's Peri Peri, a similar chain selling South African chicken, and I can happily say this definitely compares and even beats Nando's in certain areas. I went with an old friend and we ordered 12 wings, half hot sauce and half garlic. The 4 piece lamb with medium sauce, the peri Mayo corn, rice, and fries, all the regular size. The prices were very good and much cheaper than Nando's. Also there was a lot less salt on the food. Service was friendly but not particularly attentive. I guess for a fast casual place you can't expect much these days. I did not that obvious things like water refills and providing extra napkins were readily missed. Also I was pretty disappointed with the poor drink choices. Nando's wins here with their range and even choice of Sangria you can get. Tribos didn't even have seltzer/sparkling water or unsweetened iced tea. You're only choices were sugary sodas or water. That is actually pretty unacceptable to me and hopefully they will improve that soon. Otherwise onto the food. I'll start with the side because they were absolutely delicious? I think I may have enjoyed them more than the meats . The rice was perfectly seasoned as were the fries. The corn was tasty and the Mayo wasn't overpowering either. I liked mixing the rice abs corn together. The sauces are very tasty with decent heat. I didn't get the hottest one but I will say for people who live for spicy food, the hot sauce wasn't very spicy at all. Very tolerable but still delicious. As for the chicken--the wings themselves were pretty standard. I was excited with the option of the lamb and while I found the medium sauce actually the tastiest one of them, I don't think I'd order the lamb again because the quality of the meat wasn't the greatest. They were pretty cheap though so again I can't expect much but I honestly didn't enjoy eating the lamb. It was mostly bone and it felt like a scavenger hunt trying to figure out was was meat and what was bone under the sauce. Either way I will absolutely return to this establishment as I am verrrrry interested in their rice bowls. They sound like the perfect lunch option. Overall I would rate this a solid 4 given the price point, taste, and options available.

Hands down one of the best Peri Peri spots I've been to. The sauces, the seasoning, and the quality of the meat used here was top notch. I've been to places where the sauces are so watery and just overwhelmingly spicy that all other flavor notes are drowned out. At this Tribos location, you can tell the difference between the sauces and enjoy the flavor and texture whether it's tangy, spicy, or mild and creamy. For sides, I would highly recommend the peri peri corn. Comes in a shareable bowl (good for 2-3 ppl). It was my favorite side dish. The peri peri fries were good too if you like crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside kind of fries. For entrees, my friends enjoyed the lamb chops quite a lot, though I personally prefer simpler seasoning on chops. If you're a die hard fan of peri peri sauces on everything, you'll love the chops! The whole chicken and wings were seasoned well inside and the meat itself was juicy (which I find to be rare at peri peri spots.. most places bank on the sauce to overwhelm the meat) The service was great. You can tell the chef and staff really care about the food. I went with a big group of (needy) friends and our host still patiently took his time explaining what's popular on the menu and even what combination sauces we should try. Great addition to the neighborhood; highly recommend checking it out.

If more people knew about Peri Peri chicken, we'd see lines wrapping around the block the way Chick Fil-A would never dream of. So I'm in a tough situation where I want to proclaim the wonders of Peri Peri to everyone I meet but I also want to keep it my own secret. Alas, I cannot be selfish. Although Tribos's chicken just barely falls short of the flavor I would expect from the perfect Peri Peri, it's still probably the BEST place to get Peri Peri in New Jersey. The chicken is juicy, fresh, HUGE, and cooked to perfection. We were also taken aback by the fact that our enormous order came out in literally 5 minutes without any hint that it wasn't made from scratch. That's phenomenal. While the chicken is what you come for, you'll definitely be talking about the sides. YOU MUST GET THE CREAMY CORN AND THE PERI PERI FRIES. If I could bold and underline that, I would. These two sides are masterpieces of flavor and texture. The one item I was surprised to find on the menu were lamb chops. I was glad I tried them out, because they were delicious. I enjoyed the charred flavor balanced out with the sauce. For the price, the quantity of food, and the cool ambience, Tribos is one of my favorite food spots in Jersey and I can promise to frequent it often

Visited with a group of 7 on a Saturday night! The decor was modern chic, very nice ambiance!! The food was 10/10! Perfectly spiced and perfectly cooked. We had the lamb, chicken, FRIES, corn and none disappointed! The service was fast, friendly and very attentive from the moment you step through the doors! Will definitely be back!

I was excited when I saw an African restaurant had opened up in Woodbridge Mall as they are not common in the area and I am a big fan of having diverse culinary choices. I also like supporting mom and pop businesses, so I walked in with lots of enthusiasm - which vanished fairly quickly. At first, I was actually a bit amused. The furniture looks like it was meant for a different business with big pink chairs and a decor that felt a bit more "Alice in Wonderland" than I had expected. I then looked behind the counter and there was a man there who looked up, looked at me, kind of made a resigned sigh then...went back to looking at his phone. Um...okay? I walked up to the counter and tried to figure out what I was going to order. I asked the man about a menu and he made a subtle nod at the paper menu pile and then got up and walked to the back, as if I was really bugging him. A lady then came out and I thought "Okay, maybe she'll help me?" Yeah, no. I started asking about the menu and she explained nothing, only giving me some really irritated looks. The problem is, the menu had no descriptions or prices. It was hard to tell if you did a "build a bowl/meal" type thing or just ordered a "#1 or #2" etc. Finally I decided to just choose some beef tripe and rice and roll with it. Interestingly, as I stood there I checked in to Yelp via the app, and I'm guessing she saw this because when I looked up she was suddenly smiling as she handed me my food, asking me to visit again. I wound up taking the food home and...it was terrible. The tripe was SO tough. The rice was...okay but the flavor didn't really grab me. The Fufu included with the meal was...very odd in flavor. It tasted almost like herbal medicine which was strange. I have had Fufu at a restaurant in Union before and it tasted nothing like this. I generally try to find the positive in places I go to, but between the disdainful service and the quality of the food, I cannot in good conscience recommend this place, a fact that makes me very sad.

Clearly a to go place even inside the Woodbridge mall on a busy Saturday.

Every day, they have a different menu depending on which chef is working (there are chefs from India, Syria, Jamaica, Uganda and Indonesia!). Their food is super delicious with very fresh ingredients and the prices are very awesome. A lunch entree is $5, and if you want salad+soup, that'll run you $5 as well ($3 for salad, $2 for soup). They also have assorted pastries (cookies, scones, blondies, brownies, specialty bars [e.g. raspberry almond / apricot walnut / derby bar) that range from $1.50-2.50. They also serve fair trade coffee for one dollah! I got the Congolese Chicken + Cabbage with rice + potatoes and a side salad the first time I went. The second time, I got a trio of salads (beet salad, Congolese slaw, and cucumber salad) that came with pita bread. I've also tried their apricot walnut bar + derby bar.
