I've been wanting to go to Tribos for quite a while, but I usually only think of it when I'm already headed to another restaurant in Metuchen. I am familiar with Nandos Peri Peri and always try to eat at one anytime I'm in Illinois, so I was really excited to know I had a Peri Peri spot closer to where I live in NJ! This hit the spot. I ordered with a few coworkers, all who had never had Peri Peri chicken before. They were all pleasantly acquainted with this cuisine after I brought back our food! The chips are delicious. Not soggy or too hard, but just right! The paneer appetizer I wasn't crazy about, the paneer was pretty dried out so that was disappointing but it was also the only negative with my meal and wasn't that bad. I ordered the chicken sandwich and seasoned yuca fries. The chicken sandwich was the best that I've had in a LONG time. I ordered the fried chicken and it had a perfect crisp coating and the chicken inside was not dried out at all. The only drawback is the meals for pricey pretty quickly. Yes it's high quality, he's it's in Metuchen, but I would still consider this fast food and our bill didn't quite reflect that. Would be nice if there were more "combo" options. read more

Discovered this place about six months ago and have been there many times since and that is because their grilled chicken is consistently delicious. I usually have half a chicken and sides. The restaurant itself has a prayer mat and a corner if anyone wants to go pray or meditate. They also have plenty of seats and the staff goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcomed. Now for the food. The chicken is so juicy and tender, and the sauce they use is simply delicious. Their fries are on another level. We got the fusion fries and the peri peri fries. Also if you get their chicken then be sure to get a side of rice. The rice and chicken pair really well together. Also I love that even if you get the full chicken they give you the option to choose white only (breast and wing) or dark only (leg and thigh) meat. Tribos Peri Peri is delicious! I'm a long time lover of Nando's Peri Peri, a similar chain selling South African chicken, and I can happily say this definitely compares and even beats Nando's in certain areas. I went with an old friend and we ordered 12 wings, half hot sauce and half garlic. The 4 piece lamb with medium sauce, the peri Mayo corn, rice, and fries, all the regular size. The prices were very good and much cheaper than Nando's. Also there was a lot less salt on the food. Service was friendly but not particularly attentive. I guess for a fast casual place you can't expect much these days. I did not that obvious things like water refills and providing extra napkins were readily missed. Also I was pretty disappointed with the poor drink choices. Nando's wins here with their range and even choice of Sangria you can get. Tribos didn't even have seltzer/sparkling water or unsweetened iced tea. You're only choices were sugary sodas or water. That is actually pretty unacceptable to me and hopefully they will improve that soon. Otherwise onto the food. I'll start with the side because they were absolutely delicious? I think I may have enjoyed them more than the meats . The rice was perfectly seasoned as were the fries. The corn was tasty and the Mayo wasn't overpowering either. I liked mixing the rice abs corn together. The sauces are very tasty with decent heat. I didn't get the hottest one but I will say for people who live for spicy food, the hot sauce wasn't very spicy at all. Very tolerable but still delicious. As for the chicken--the wings themselves were pretty standard. I was excited with the option of the lamb and while I found the medium sauce actually the tastiest one of them, I don't think I'd order the lamb again because the quality of the meat wasn't the greatest. They were pretty cheap though so again I can't expect much but I honestly didn't enjoy eating the lamb. It was mostly bone and it felt like a scavenger hunt trying to figure out was was meat and what was bone under the sauce. Either way I will absolutely return to this establishment as I am verrrrry interested in their rice bowls. They sound like the perfect lunch option. Hands down one of the best Peri Peri spots I've been to. The sauces, the seasoning, and the quality of the meat used here was top notch. I've been to places where the sauces are so watery and just overwhelmingly spicy that all other flavor notes are drowned out. At this Tribos location, you can tell the difference between the sauces and enjoy the flavor and texture whether it's tangy, spicy, or mild and creamy. For sides, I would highly recommend the peri peri corn. Comes in a shareable bowl (good for 2-3 ppl). It was my favorite side dish. The peri peri fries were good too if you like crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside kind of fries. For entrees, my friends enjoyed the lamb chops quite a lot, though I personally prefer simpler seasoning on chops. If you're a die hard fan of peri peri sauces on everything, you'll love the chops! The whole chicken and wings were seasoned well inside and the meat itself was juicy (which I find to be rare at peri peri spots.. most places bank on the sauce to overwhelm the meat) The service was great. You can tell the chef and staff really care about the food. I went with a big group of (needy) friends and our host still patiently took his time explaining what's popular on the menu and even what combination sauces we should try. While the chicken is what you come for, you'll definitely be talking about the sides. YOU MUST GET THE CREAMY CORN AND THE PERI PERI FRIES. If I could bold and underline that, I would. These two sides are masterpieces of flavor and texture. The one item I was surprised to find on the menu were lamb chops. I was glad I tried them out, because they were delicious. Came here on a Saturday evening with a few friends for dinner. The place was already full and they managed to fit our party of 8 in less than 15 mins! It was our first time at peri peri and our server recommended a few different dishes to share. He was super attentive and gave great recommendations especially all the sauces that came with the chicken. They were all DELICIOUS! WHERE DO THEY GET OFF?! Seriously, WHERE do they get off being so good? I moved to the US 10 years ago from the UK. Since then I've had to settle for my cheeky Nando's whenever I went back, which given the pandemic and other factors, I've not been able for a few years now. Tribos has filled that gaping hole in my soul - and then some. I saw another review saying it's no Nando's. I'm inclined to agree. But Nando's also doesn't have the white sauce that I can only imagine is some sort of divine concoction, the recipe for which was hand-delivered by some lesser angel right after saying the words, "do not be afraid." Nando's also doesn't have yuca fries or lamb chops. Speaking of which, we finally tried the lamb chops today, and it took every bit of my executive functioning not to swear in front on my child. I was actually offended by how good it was. OF-FEN-DED! I don't recall a place that serves better fries. The flavors of all the main items are unbeatable. I think the "Hot" is the perfect combination of flavor and spice. If in doubt, I would advise getting "Medium" spice. You get a red hot sauce on the side with which you can upgrade your spiciness. The most difficult part of ordering is selecting the sides as they are so varied and so good. That said, I find the taste of the perimayo corn and coleslaw to be inconsistent - perhaps that's due to seasonality. I often don't have favorite restaurants, and usually only write reviews out of indignation, but Tribos has become an easy favorite in the past few months. It's our go-to place for takeout. The real danger is that they're only 5 minutes away, so I might end up spending all my money on their peri goodness at the expense of saving for my kid's college education. I picked up lunch from Tribos Peri Peri for some friends, so I haven't eaten in their space, only their takeout offering. We ordered online and it was ready earlier than they said, which was a plus. When I picked up the meals the vibe felt like a relaxed quick service establishment, perfect for a casual lunch or dinner with friends or family. After we actually started eating we realized they put the wrong sauce on a different wrap, but it wasn't an issue (it's all delicious) and we were already too far from the location to resolve it. The Chicken Pita and Crispy Sandwiches were good, even after sitting for 30 minutes while we were driving, the taste was delicious. We also ordered a kids meal - our little diner loved the Max & Cheese bites, as well as fries Yuca yuca fries. Skip the fries, but get the Yuca fries. The wings were very well cooked and seasoned and any type of Peri Peri restaurant always have great rice! My only suggestion would be to not make the lights so dim here lol. Well fortunately today I ran across them on Yelp and got the chance to try em out and am soooo glad I did!! Let's start with the wings: I ordered spicy and they had a beautiful Mediterranean zing to them, I got the Hot and they were that indeed but still flavorful so that I wasn't overpowered by just spice alone. However, I can't deny that the garlic ranch (if that's what they call it) took them to a WHOOOOOLE other level! It was so good I started to dip the fries in it. I guess I'll argue into segue to the Peri Fries next. They had a beautiful seasoning to them, reminded me of curly fries with a middle eastern twist. And I loved how each fry seemed to be individually dusted, there was not just a pile of fries with seasoning put atop. No they ensured each fry had there own separate exposure to the seasoning. Now, for the peri corn, that peri mayo was pretty good. I only needed a small because it was very rich. But had I got a large, I'm sure I would've made my way to the bottom of the bowl because it was definitely that good. Overall it was a good experience. Food was super fresh and will wake your tastebuds up! It's something different from the cookie cutter cuisines and it's nice that you can customize everything! We had the wings and chicken with the hot sauce level, we had the corn on the cob, the cut corn (the sauce was yummm), and the fresh potato chips. Everything was so good and we even got to test their pina colada (which I hope they add to the menu), which was a perfect way to end our meal...cooled and sweetened the palate!
