On May 10, 2026, yesterday, I took my wife out for Mother's Day to Spain Inn in Piscataway for dinner. We both ordered two stuffed lobsters that cost $69 per plate. We have eaten many times in the pass under the previous management. Stuff lobster was always our choice for the night. But our experience last night was not a good one, The lobsters that were served had a lot of green stuff ( lobster crap ) coming out of the part when we detached the tail from the lobster. We believe that the lobsters were not cleaned properly before being stuffed. It was gross. We also ordered a small sangria and the total amount for our dinner last night was $189 plus tip. The $200 spent for our dinner last night was not worth it. We expect it more for the money spent. read more

TLDR: decent food and seafood with good service The ambiance and service of the restaurant were great. Staff was always around our table prepared to portion food, change plates, fill water, etc. They were helpful and friendly through the entire meal. The menu has a promising selection of seafood and Spanish classics. Our party primarily ordered seafood dishes. The quality of ingredients is good, but some of the preparation fell short. The shrimp appetizer was slightly overcooked and mealy, and the special broiled red snapper was similarly dry. I enjoyed the octopus, flavorful with a satisfying chew, and veal cutlets, well fried and sauced. There might have been an off day with some of the seafood preparation, but I can't see myself coming back soon - maybe if I wanted paella. Based on one experience I wouldn't come back for the seafood especially considering the relatively high price of items. read more

This spot is perfect whether you're having meal with a couple people or want to celebrate a large party! I came here in May for the first time and discovered that this spot has a main dining area and also multiple private dining rooms for gatherings like bridal showers, communions, birthdays etc. Ambiance: - rustic Spanish style decor - plenty of seating in main dining room, large round and rectangular tables to seat 10-15 guests - multiple private dining rooms available for larger parties Service: - staff was attentive and kindly explained the menu to us - food came to the table quickly Food: - grilled octopus salad: the octopus was tender and lightly charred. - giant prawns: prawns were slightly over cooked but the sauce was so delicious that we kept it for the whole meal to pair with the complimentary bread - Paella Valenciana: large size perfect to split with 4. It was filled with seafood and The mussels were particularly huge and delicious. I only wish the paella was cooked directly in the pan rather than made at mass quantities - Mariscada: filled with seafood- lobster was juicy and tender. Came here for drinks with a friend and sat at the bar. It was Saturday night so it was packed, but not impossible to find a seat. Service was great but the food came soooo slow (that was on the kitchen, not the bartender.) Bartender was super friendly and entertaining to help pass the time. Steak but nice and juicy, but a tad fatty and could have used more seasoning. Wish they also had more options for sides. The garlic butter spread was amazing. So good! The service began pleasant. Soup was delicious.Caldo gallego. They pushed for us to order sangria. We did not. The main course was not edible. Filet mignon was super salty rice was cold no taste. Lobster was rubbery. I ordered salmon it was ok. We communicated to the waitress about our food, yet no one came to our table about it. I have been going to Spain Inn for over 20 years. I go to buy the seafood piaya for my family to eat Christmas eve. This year I went and purchased the seafood piaya for $91.00! The tray was put in a large box. When I got home to look at the food, it was in a thin 1-inch pan with barely any rice or food. They have officially lost a 20 plus year customer! A friend and I went to Spain Inn and had a great time. The service was prompt and friendly. We shared a grilled octopus with salad for the appetizer. The octopus was tasty and tender, but the salad was kind of plain. I had the seafood in green sauce and my friend had a meat dish. My seafood was fantastic - really fresh, tender and tasty. I really can't review my friend's dish except to say that he thought it was fantastic and said it was his best restaurant meal in months. The portions were big, too. Unfortunately, we were a little pressed for time and didn't get to have dessert. I look forward to the next time because everything was so good and I'll be sure to save time. read more

I've been coming to this place for a long time, ever since I lived in the area as a teenager. I think the food quality has unfortunately gone down in my opinion. My go to dish here has always been the chicken and garlic sauce (on the bone). The chicken I received was so overcooked I didn't really eat much of it. Decided to try this restaurant because I was told that it's one of the best in the area. So for starters, the biggest problem was trying to get the attention of our waiter. He seemed a little overwhelmed. The food was delicious, I just wish it was served hotter than it was. The Spanish potatoes that we ordered came from the kitchen extremely cold. Outside of most our meals being served either cold or warm the taste of the meals were great. 8 years ago, I reviewed this restaurant as a longtime patron. I was disappointed with the quality of food, that in my opinion, had been suffering. Last night my wife and I went back to give it another go. I am pleased to say the quality of food was superb! Every place that offers garlic shrimp, always overcooks the shrimp, including here, that is until last night! The shrimp was not only perfectly cooked, but the sauce was not the normal, "Oh, let's just throw garlic in oil with some paprika and call it garlic shrimp"! The sauce was actually a SAUCE and was delicious! I only gave them 1 extra star because even though the food and service were great, not to mention the prices are fair for what you get, but the specials were the same darned thing they have been 8+ years ago! Louis, if you're reading this, for Christ's sake, the steak on the stone stopped being "Special" after the first year! Either put it on the menu or take it off the specials! Specials should change weekly, not once every decade. Plus, the menu is exactly the same. All in all, I am happy that the food is good again! I hope you don't take my criticism in a bad way. Been thinking about trying this place for 12 years since I moved to the area and finally went for Mother's Day. Waited 10 minutes for someone to come to the table and ask for drinks. Then waited another 15 minutes for water to be brought to the table (more on that later). Then waited another 10 minutes for a different person to ask if we were ready to order. We found out after we ordered our food that they ran out of chicken for the paella (have you never been busy on mother's day before that you didn't know how to prepare). Food came fast enough, but none of it had any flavor. It was all very bland. I got up and got my own hot sauce because I didn't know how long it would take to get help. By the way, one section of lights kept turning off. Staff would keep going over to turn it back on, but they would soon enough turn off on their own again. This happened so much (at least 100 times in our 2 hour visit) that many of us went home with a headache. If all of this wasn't bad enough, I went back the next day at 4pm to speak to a manager as I didn't want to cause a scene in a crowded restaurant and to give myself time to calm down. I told him about the lights and he said nothing. No "I'm sorry", not an explanation as to the malfunction, just stared at me. Then I explained about the waiting 25 minutes for water and 35 minutes for our order and offered him the suggestion to hire more staff for a busy event like this or take less reservations. And his response was, "I think your expectations for service on Mother's Day is too high". I tried explaining to him that I'm in my late 40's and this is not my first time dining out on Mother's Day. But he doubled down and said, "trust me, no one was delivering food and water fast on Mother's Day". The guy took 15 minutes to fill 7 glasses with water and the manager at Spain Inn thought this was okay and any negative thoughts I had about the experience were my fault. To sum it up, if you go when they aren't busy, you might have some luck with the service. But no matter what, you can expect to spend $30 per person on a terrible representation of Spanish food. read more

Mother's Day: very slow service--although the food was good! Forgot our table constantly. We had to ask for bread, drinks, water. Sat in a terrible room with no decor--dark, lights kept flashing on and off. I felt like I was in a school cafeteria without any decorations. Price gouging on Mother's Day. My family has been dining at Spain Inn for over 40 years. I understand there are new owners. Food quality is the the same --very good. but other than that, prices were very very high, slow and forgetful service---horrible decor I feel like we were taken advantage of. Would say that there is no ambiance for sure. Was here last night don't think we will be back. First, seating was super tight. Felt like we had to wait for a bit for service. Took a bit of time just to get some drinks. It seems like there were regular customers, which is fine. But you gotta pay attention to other, new customers as well.. We order the sangria which was good and we had two small pictures.... It came real small..37.00. Don't think it is worth it. Should put price on the list for Sangria. It is good but not for the value. As for the food, Mariscada was ok. Traditional Spain food. Good with the bread dipping the sauce. Had mussel, shrimps and a piece of lobster in it. It was ok. My wife had the monk fish and she was ok. I think this place definitely needs to do better. read more

If your looking for authentic Portuguese food and you don't want to to drive to Newark, then you've come to the right place. The Spain Inn is one of those restaurants that offers consistly good food and excellent service. I had two waiters and a bus boy. They work as a team. The Spain Inn happens to be a personal favorite of mine and I've been coming here for many years. Whatever you chose on their menu will be delicious. I've always left here full and with plenty of leftovers. I recommend ordering their sangria. It's made fresh and really refreshing. On every table is served warm Portuguese sliced bread and really garlicky dipping sauce. This time I did not order appetizers, but when I do my favorites are the Camarones Al Ajillo( Shrimp in Garlic Sauce)and Chorizo A La Plancha (Sausage spanish style) and Mejillones En Salsa Verde ( Mussles in Green Sauce) they also serve the mussels in a Red Sauce which is equally good. For my main dish I ordered Mariscada in Red Sauce. The dish is a shellfish casserole, fresh lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops, cooked in a rich tomato, brandy and wine sauce served with saffron rice. It also comes in a Green Sauce. Each person gets their own pot loaded with seafood and yellow rice is served on the side. I also ordered a plate of their homemade fried potato slices. They taste sort of like a potato chip. My Mariscada had so much flavor and loaded with seafood. I ate half and took the rest home. The Spain Inn has a full bar and they will do catering, all types of parties and weddings on the premises. There is free parking in their lot, but it can get filled quickly. This place is located off Rt 22East on Rock ave take it all the way down into Piscataway and it will be on your right. The decor is a bit dated, but all the tables have white linens on them. The dress is casual but neat. I can't wait to return and have some more favorites like their Stuffed lobster, and Paella Valencia. read more

I arrived there at around 2PM for the lunch specials. The lunch special runs from 12-3PM. Guess what, they open at 3PM, the menu still has the lunch special listed (page/sheet), but they are no longer available. So now I must order from the dinner menu at 3PM. This is plain wrong and ridiculous. First time in 60 years, I must have dinner at 3 and pay dinner prices. I guess they will go out of business soon. They should offer EARLY DINER from 3-5PM at the lunch prices to make up for the new hours and to be consistent with the menu prices for lunch. Esto no esta bien chicos! Somerset NJ here read more

My parents have been coming to eat here since I can remember and I've been here a handful of times in my life. Was here most recently to celebrate Fathers' Day. The location has its charm because it has an old school, sort of divey, feel. It's hard to describe but once you're there you get exactly what I mean. Service here is fantastic. The menu is pretty good; has a great array of seafood, meats, and poultry. I went for the jumbo fried shrimp which are served with their homemade potato chips. I went to this establishment and I wanted to give this place a second chance . The restaurant is the same as the last review but way cleaner + are following social distance guidelines . We eat at this restaurant often and it is on our "Favorites" list. This is the best Spanish or Latin restaurant in the entire area. Last night my wife and I along with another couple met in their bar, had a drink and then ventured to our table in the restaurant. This place is always busy and every weekend there is either a wedding or party going on in their ballroom. Last night was no exception. The ballroom was having a wedding and all tables were taken in the restaurant. As busy as they were, the service and kitchen staff didn't miss a beat. My complements to Hector, the lead waiter, who kept everything moving with precision. The food was great all round, from shrimp and clam appetizes to seafood and steak entrees. Everything was cooked with excellence and the quality of each selection was very good. Ever since the ownership change last year, the standards have been lifted and we have come to love this place even more. The prices are a value considering all of the above.
