This is a pretty good buffet. They have everything. The sushi selections were decent. We ordered at the hibachi grill shrimp, chicken, and beef noodles. The noodles were soft and tender and the meat were cooked perfectly. The assortments of food were mostly what you would find at a Chinese buffet. The key selections are oysters, lobster, sushi, king crab legs, crabs, and frog legs. They even have a nice ice cream freezer box. Service was quick to clean up your plates. Overall I recommend this buffet Chinese restaurant. It is just to expensive at $25.99 for an all day rate. The desert assortments is big. Decent buffet for the price, but like all buffets everything was salty making me very thirsty. Went for lunch on a Saturday. They had several types of ice cream and a selection of cakes for dessert. Bbq meat was soft and tasty. For lunch had salt and pepper crab legs (without the leg part and only top of the leg). Had a hibachi station and 4 types of soup. Sushi was a disappointment for me. We went around 6 PM on a Tuesday night. Modern Buffet is very big and spacious and upon our arrival, we were quite excited. It is $20 for an adult for dinner. Sushi - typical buffet style rolls and a few sashimi. The freshness was just okay here KBBQ station - consists of shrimp skewers which has the shrimp shell and head on. They also had BBQ beef and what seemed to be perhaps galbi? Hibachi station - you pick out what you want in your hibachi plate and they make it for you. I was a bit irritated because my guy started before the person behind me and the person behind me got their plate way before me. I swear it felt like I waited for 15 mins just standing around They had other foods like Chilean seabass which was okay it was just getting cold. Seafood boil which was a bit dry and way too much potatoes. Their crawfish was good, typical. They had oysters and shrimp cocktails which were okay, not bad but not good either. Everything else was just mediocre like every other Chinese buffet. Nothing really stands out. AYCE buffets are usually a hit or a miss and I guess it was kind of a miss for us that night. I was excited for this buffet because it looked really good online, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. It's not a bad buffet, but I think I had my expectations high and expected it to be above average. I did like that they had bbq meats, but the ribs were a bit dry as they sit there. I was mostly excited for the lobster, but it was sitting in water that made it look unappetizing. I tried it anyways bc lobster is lobster, and the flavor was bland. Went on a Saturday for dinner Food - I didn't get all the food, but with all the food I ate I like. I was disappointed with the shrimps with shell on it and skewered squid as they were overcooked. What an addition to the area. This buffet is located right off 22 in North plainfield right next to the IHOP. They are a pretty big location with lots of seating for almost any size party . The service is good they are pretty attentive with getting plates cleared away as you move onto the next dish . They have several hot bars, plenty of options for everyone from sushi , typical Chinese dishes , some American, Korean BBQ, and seafood and hibachi. So many things to choose from so you better come hungry . Prices may seem a bit high but with all the selections you have it's definitely worth it . read more

The food quality is fairly average, but its incredible value at the M-F lunch price (under $14). Theres a fairly large range of items ranging from Chinese to sushi to Hibachi stations to American options. Again don't expect great food, but its decent for the price. My favorite was the hibachi station, and I think next time I visit I will mainly eat from that. There isn't a huge desert section available, but they do have fruits and ice cream. The place is definitely nicely decorated and set up. Plenty of seating and the place is surprisingly not so noisy. It's probably because people are too busy enjoying the food. Now I'm not going to say that this place blows every other buffet out of the water, but they are good. The fried shrimp is delicious and melts in your mouth. Crab legs are not too salty like some places. The servers are very attentive but not intrusive. I should have gotten pics of the hibachi station, which is different as they do cook for you Hibachi style with a great options.. you can't go wrong for 25 bucks pp on a weekend. Lovedddddd this buffet. Honestly, the buffet industry is dying so when I find one- especially one that's either brand new or has great reviews, I jump on the opportunity to give it a try. This place is clean, has tons of options, and even more space. I loved that they have a Korean bbq section, that was a super nice touch because most Chinese buffets have additional Hibachi grills but not Korean bbq. Overall the food was really great. There were stand out dishes like the scallion lobster and chicken and broccoli but then rubbery not-so-good meets like the Korean bbq beef. Happened upon here on opening night and it's $20 for dinner on a weekday ($14 for lunch and $26 for weekends iirc). This replaced Arooga's. They're playing Chinese EDM here, It's pretty catchy (but a bit loud) loll. Seating is made of some pleather material and it's comfy. I asked for hot tea and asked my waitress if it was black or green and was told black. I was fine with this but received green tea instead, which was still okay since I drink any tea, but the green tea was super watered down. It'd be better if they used 2 teabags per tea kettle; 1 teabag is prolly good for 12 oz of tea max. My thoughts on the food are below. The green beans are crunchy and pretty good. Edamame is tasty as well. Shrimp tempura roll with cream cheese- ok. Didn't notice the cream cheese when I got it. Cream cheese should not be in sushi. Inarizushi (rice and seaweed inside a tofu pocket)- decent Salmon sashimi- fatty, tasty. A lot better than expected at this price point! Mackerel sashimi- tasty, Briney, yummy. I got 4 plates of this. Kalbi (Korean beef short ribs) - large pieces of low-mid grade kalbi. Pretty fatty, had one tough piece. But overall quite yummy and awesome that they have this for a $20 dinner buffet! Octopus "sashimi" (it's cooked)- the spicy soy sauce is good, octopus is crunchy and pretty good overall. Cooked white fish- a bit dry Bacon wrapped imitation crab?- bacon was yummy. Surprisingly good overall Pork steak- tender, but a bit too salty Hibachi- my thin steak was overcooked, but noodles, leeks, onions, mushrooms, noodles, and sauce were very good. Oysters- delightfully okay. Cream puff was eh, same with red velvet cake, chocolate mousse topped cake was good, canned peaches good, pudding was alright. Overall, excellent for the price point. A little hesitant on the 5* since I've only visited on opening day, but unlimited kalbi and surprisingly decent sashimi (better than an average non-traditional sushi place) makes this buffet worth it. read more

Frist it looks very nice, decorated very well. Service was very good and fast. Food was ok I really liked the General Chow chicken, it was just spicy hot so it did not burn your mouth. We came in for lunch on a late Friday afternoon. It was less crowded which meant you can stay a bit longer before they "kind of usher" you out. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food has a variety of choices for all be it vegetarian to a carnivore. I personally prefer everything grilled and there are plenty to choose from including sauces & marinades.
