China Buffet - p good! - Chinese Near Me - South Plainfield, New Jersey

Tried China buffet for the first time for lunch this past weekend and I was not impressed. It was packed for a Sunday afternoon but were able to get seated quickly. The staff was nice and friendly but the food options were underwhelming to me and it was a smaller buffet than the ones I was used to. The only items I found enjoyable to eat was the stuffed clam and garlic bread. I would not return here again. read more

I'm a frequent customer at this buffet... and I usually get takeout after 7pm... I must say the food is always fresh even the fruit and salad bar area... my favorite is rice and cabbage and pepper steak... clean establishment with workers nearby to assist as needed ... issue last visit with a female cashier but on today a male cashier assisted and gave great.. great lighting... calm atmosphere... and very roomy with soft music. read more

Run of the mill buffet. It's smaller one but it's also cheaper. They have the usual selections of buffet food, I was surprised that they even had sushi. I liked their lo mein, some places have the spaghetti-esque noodles that I'm not a fan of. They also have the tubs of hard ice cream that you can scoop with a variety of flavors. Nowadays you only really see the togo freezer of ice cream treats. If you're looking to fill up on food for a cheap price, this isn't bad of an option. read more

I actually love this place they give good food like crabs pizza fries fried chicken the service is amazing they treat you with respect and i love it! read more

Great neighborhood buffet. It's not quite as big as some of the chains but it's a great value and the food is fresh and tasty. The interior is a bit dated but it's nice and clean. We stopped by for lunch and it's only $6.99, can't beat that... They have all of the standard Chinese buffet offerings. They have a small sushi section that's nice and fresh but nothing's labeled. I tried a few selections and they were all tasty. Pretty much everything I tried was good. Great boneless ribs, roasted pork, sautéed green beans, corn on the cob... I tried some things from the dessert section and they were just ok. They also offered hand dipped ice cream. I definitely plan to return when I'm in the area... read more

I want to send some love to this place. My friend and I are on a budget and we found this place on YELP. Thank you Yelp! The AYCE lunch for $10.99 is so unheard of these days and I was really surprised by the quality of their food. The salmon was delicious and I love their beef and broccoli. No king crab legs here. For $10.99 is an amazing value. For dessert I tried all different ice-cream and their cakes. read more

Have been coming here on and off for the last 20 years. Food has been consistent. It's Chinese take out food plus crab, fish, some sushi, and more... No frills, but the value is really what makes it stand out. Prices currently range from $10.99 for weekday lunch to $14.99 Sundays all day. read more

Sundays are the best days to go! Yes its more money but please do because thats the days when the food is fresh and their is a bountiful of choices. I would not recommend going any other day unless you choose a popular time, so the food can be fresh! I love the dungeness crab here; very full and meaty. They have a variety and plethora choices on the buffet line pizza, lo mein, oysters, fruit, and even ice cream. Great, if you want a fast bite and the price is vert cheap. Definitley worth it! read more

Definitely no frills. That immediately became clear when we asked for Splenda and green tea, neither of which was available. Plastic utensils. No low salt soy sauce; no brown rice. Some dishes could have been served hotter. Well-priced. Friendly staff. read more

What a good combination of Chinese, Asian and American buffet cuisine. Not pricey on weekdays lunch and dinner. Clean and friendly place. Parking is available. Quiet dining on weeknights, too. I like their steamed stone crabs available only for weeknight dinner ($8.99 per). Also, on weekends ($11.99 per). Separate bathrooms for Men and Women. read more

At first everything was fine. The food is good and the restaurant was clean, staff was well in attendance clearing the tables. That all changed when a family came in and their youngest wasn't happy and was constantly screaming at very high sharp notes. I thought the Atom would split. They eventually appeased him with a tablet but instead of screaming unhappily, he would scream with glee at what ever he was watching. To add insult to injury the couple behind our booth apparently didn't like each other because they decided to put their phones up so high it was difficult for me to hear the people I was sitting with. So we were forced to listen to phone noise. Wtf is going on in this country? No one has any manners or are they that ignorant? I decided not to mention mine and my tables dissatisfaction because I was afraid of being shot or beat to death in the parking lot. We are up here in Jersey for another few weeks and had planned to go back many times but now knowing the restaurant allows such behavior by patrons we will be going somewhere else. I have never experienced this level of rude. It's heartbreaking. read more

Disappointed. Not many food options. Food was just ok. My preteen didn't finish her food and loves buffet food. Husband wasn't happy with the food or the restaurant itself. Got super crowded as we were leaving. Wouldn't return. Two starts for the service/workers who are more polite than the other local buffet. read more

Good choice on a rainy January night drive that ended up unexpectedly nearby. Food was decent but not as large as the usual buffet, which means fresher selection overall, price unbeatable so it was a surefire hit with me. I enjoyed the shrimp dishes especially the spicy one with onions and peppers, the green beans gently quick fried with almonds which I love were prepared very well, I really was surprised how much I liked the butter cabbage too. I seriously cheated on my carb ban at the dessert bar, I had only planned on a taste of the green tea ice cream and butter pecan, but it was so good I wanted to get more. Fresh sliced oranges and really delicious grapes were a nice ending. I'd recommend on a spur of the moment for dinner, I hear the lunch is a great value too. Great staff, food is really great for the value. The interior is dated but well kept. read more

I love Tina Amazing food and super friendly, the serve you super fast and have this nice family style buffet. Me and my brother eat there always every once a month cause the food mad good. You can either take out or dine in but dining in is where it is at. Would recommend to anyone in the Plainfield area. read more

They have all of the favorites. Boneless ribs and chicken sticks are well executed. They have switched to plastic forks, which was a little disappointing. I like the stuffed clams. I like to crush fortune cookies and sprinkle them on my ice cream. For the price you can't go wrong. If I take a bite and I don't like it, I just push it to the side. Use a soup bowl for your ice cream! read more

It's very old fashioned looking inside. The food is edible but not the best. Their desserts are not good at all. The only dessert that's decent is ice cream. The staff is not friendly at all and try to make their attitude known. They roll their eyes, they stare aimlessly, and rush you to get out...which is why they never get tips from me. Your establishment is not that great to have the nerve to be so rude ...DO BETTER! read more

Not a fan Fish quality was poor. Clams oreganota has chopped meat Shrimps smelled of an order Beets tasted yucky Don't wast your time or money read more

Finally they re-opened! Went for dine-in dinner today on a Tuesday. Price is still very good $11.99. Can't get any better, everywhere else food prices have gone up. Food quality is as good as before COVID. They have steam crabs, fishes, sushi bar to name a few of the dishes. How we missed buffet. Staffs are friendly as usual. We wear masks & they provided disposable gloves to wear when getting food. Plenty of tables so people are seated apart. We felt safe that they are practicing safety measures. Thanks! read more

Establishment is cleaned and has a well stocked buffet offerings. Service was really quick and attentive with the drinks. Food tasted like average chinese food. The orange chicken was dry , but quite tasty. The dinner menu seems to have more seafood options ( especially the crab ). The spicy shrimp and the clams with bean sauce are to die for. The American portion of the food was meh to below average . Most of it was fried foods. The desserts were also nothing to scream about. The desserts were not fresh and mushy. Even tho it is a three star, the price cannot be beat for the food and service. If you are in the area , would definately recommend if your on a budget as its a great value for your buck. read more

This fucking place is ass I ordered a sprite and it tasted watered down the meat if not even cook all the way it's shit. They try to kick you out so quick I Just find it weird how an white American couple were here way before us and they still didn't give them the bill. When we didn't even ask for it and still gave it. The food was shit. Everything is fried too kinda wack for that. The fruit is not even fresh. Either it was soggy or it felt like a sponge. The watermelon wasn't even sweet can't even taste it. Terrible plz save your money. By the way this is my 3rd time coming here and I regret it each time read more

An incredible value and all I eat here is the sushi. OK it's not Japanese restaurant quality sushi but for a Chinese buffet restaurant., they have an amazing selection of sushi. I may have missed it among the other sauces, but I would have liked it more if they had spicy mayo. While I didn't have the Chinese food, I did notice that they had many. many selections. I had green tea ice cream for dessert and it really tasted like vanilla. That was disappointing. read more

This place is the epitome of a Chinese buffet. A decent array of foods to choose from all of which tasted pretty fresh. They also have a small selection of (mostly) non raw sushi that was good. Value for money was 10/10, crazy inexpensive. If you're in the area, give this place a shot. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but it's a great bang for your buck. read more

It would do. The food is actually not bad. Nothing super great, but ive had chinese take outs that are really blah. They make their food alright. not a fan of this place. most of the food is luke warm if that. soup was good. will try the place one more time..... read more

Can't ask for much better classic Chinese buffet at a Saturday dinner price of $17. There was plenty of food options ranging from standard Americanized Chinese cuisine to more generic options like baked chicken, pork roast, bbq chicken, pizza, and salmon. There's decent sushi and a good dessert selection. I didn't love the other clientele (large families and screaming children) but I'm not sure what could be done about that. Overall, it's a good spot. It doesn't get 5 stars because I feel there could be more food and it doesn't have a hibachi station. read more

2.75 stars --- Had high hopes for this place from a friends recommendation however it was pretty average at best. The place is kind of a hodgepodge of random restaurants that were probably here before this place. Dirty carpets and ripped both seats. The men's bathroom needed a serious cleaning as well. I mean serious cleaning top to bottom and new air fresheners. They didn't have a huge selection of foods but what they did have was pretty good, I wouldn't miss it if I could never have it again -- but pretty good. Lots of fried foods was pretty much the main thing here. Fried shrimp, fried chicken balls, fried chicken, lo mein, coconut shrimp, peppered chicken etc. Lots of finger foods like fries, pizza, chicken as well. The sushi area was just disappointing though. Don't come here if you want sushi ... 3-4 types of rolls and two of them are California and Philadelphia rolls so they shouldn't even count. The fruit was all fresh and was replenished rather quickly. All in all if the place got a real good cleaning I'd say it was a 3.5 star place. The price was super cheap so it's difficult to complain about that. read more

Like others have said, I do not know how this place makes money. They have whole Dungeness Crabs and king crab legs! That alone makes the $11 for dinner worth it. I am a huge seafood fan so I was in heaven when I saw the dungenous crabs. They only allow one cracker per table - just fyi. In addition, it's BYOB - we brought a bottle of wine and they happily gave us wine glasses, which was nice. This buffet is definitely a local spot... maybe not in the best area but I was pleasantly surprised when I went in. Like its plain given name, this a no-frills buffet. No Mongolian stir-fry here. There's sushi options and your usual Chinese food offerings. They have raw oyster but this is not the place to try it. Added points for offering green tea ice cream. We fed a family of 6 for $86 (dinner buffet plus 2 cokes). read more

China Buffet - Seafood - Chinese Near Me - South Plainfield, New Jersey

I am baffled and shocked at this restaurant's 3.5 star rating. I am not a picky eater and of course, I don't expect much from a Chinese buffet. However, the food here is below average-- probably worse than the food you would get from a dingy Chinese take-out place. The options of food choices you have are rather underwhelming, and the quality of the food is even more underwhelming. First of all, the Kimchi they offered was mixed with Italian dressing. But why?! I am not really sure as to what type of concoction they were going for, but that's NOT kimchi. Out of the little choices of food offered, the best would probably be their fried chicken. However, it doesn't make sense to come to a Chinese buffet for its fried chicken. The stuffed clams were too soggy, the regular clams were cooked with an unusual sauce that just DID NOT taste good. The list can go on but I'm sure my point has been made already. In terms of the atmosphere of the restaurant, nothing made the environment seem "oriental". They had a total of two paintings hung on the walls-- one with horses frolicking around and one with a random house on a lawn. The lack of decorations were rather depressing and you probably wouldn't be able to tell it was a Chinese restaurant if it wasn't called "China Buffet". All in all, do not come here because it is "cheap". With a couple extra dollars, you can probably get a better meal elsewhere. read more

The only place where i can get Black pepper chicken :( Very good with Jalapenos, i wish it was not so far away or i would eat every week. Only if i could get the recipe, every Chinese takeout that i have even went to does not have this on the menu. I also like the cheese/imitation seafood item as well. Wife refuses to go while Covid is her concern and she does the driving :( read more

The worst food i ever had in my life I came here to eat left with my stomach hurts shit ass sushi taste like shit

Used to go here all the time especially for lunch. I remember when this place was like $5.99 or $6.99 for lunch and around $10 for dinner. The food is good with decent amount of choices but now that the prices have raised so high they are the same price as another place that includes hibachi. Since this location didn't have hibachi I'd rather go a few blocks further and pay the same price for a place that has hibachi. They need to either drop their prices so that they are cheaper than the hibachi buffet or offer other items that other places don't. Many places used to offer snow crab legs but not anymore. Maybe this place should think about doing this since they can't compete with all the other buffets that offer hibachi included. If they offered snow crab legs included in their buffet price they could charge even more than the hibachi places in my opinion! I would take all you can eat snow crab legs over hibachi any day! read more

I went to this place with a colleague on a teacher professional development day. We wanted some thing quick and good. I was a little concerned about the amazing variety of foods as it did not seem possible that they could offer all of that with such a low, low price for lunch - only $5.99 I love clams and they had clams in the shell in black bean sauce. They tasted delicious and I ate more than a dozen. (They were small). I made it back to school and halfway through the afternoon session before I started feeling queasy. I almost made it home, but not quite. I brought the clams up all over my front seat, dashboard, and radio. I called to let them know that the clams may be bad. The old saying is right 'If it seems to good to be true - it probably is". read more
