This place is a hidden gem s from outside you don't even know that there is a Chinese restaurant here . Next to LA fitness .. so u will easily miss this spot . The girl in the counter gets a little annoyed if we ask her some questions , especially to check if there is egg in a vegetarian dish etc. they take about 10-15 mins to cook and it is really good. Ordered General Tsos tofu and it was super delicious . They had good amount of tofu and 2 of us could eat one meal . Veg soup was also really good . Not much of veggie options though. Will surely go back and try other things . Not much place to sit and eat .. they do have some tables but it isn't too clean inside . Probably the nastiest dumplings Ive ever had. Also they couldnt even tell me if there were eggs in them until i said "well i need to know because i'm vegan." We were so wary to eat these because of how they were unsure in the ingredients! We tried then and SO MUCH flour on the outside and was sooo undercooked. There were barely veggies inside it was all just thick empty flour sacs. They were also so soggy from sitting in the container steaming. Disgusting- could barely eat any of it honestly. $11 for bad dumplings- i'm disappointed!!!! read more

I live in Edison and have been on the search for my go to Chinese spot after my favorite restaurant on route 1 closed. I usually am not picky and will order from wherever pops up first on my google search. I think Hunan Kitchen is my new favorite! I have been twice now and both times have been more than satisfied with my meal. My biggest pet peeve is when any breaded chicken dish is chewy and I have now tried both the sesame and tso's and both have been perfect. Crab rangoons are filled perfectly and their fried rice is fresh. This place is a little out of the way for me but drive is worth it, can't wait to order again for my next take out night! read more

This is the only Chinese restaurant in the area that we get takeout from. One major reason is that they don't use MSG; I am one of those people that gets headaches from Chinese food that is full of MSG. All the meat and vegetables are fresh and tasty, so they don't need to use MSG as a flavor enhancer. You can't go wrong with Hunan Kitchen. We recommended it to a couple of our friends. My family used to love this place ~10 years ago and it used to be our go-to Chinese takeout around the corner from our house. However, we recently placed an order and were disappointed with the decrease in quality over the years. The general tso's chicken was super oily and did not taste fresh at all. Ordered twice from Hunan Kitchen in the same day last weekend. Ordered ~$100 between the two visits with a good mix of food to share with family. Ordered: - Beef and broccoli x2 - Roast pork and broccoli - General tso's chicken - Sweet and sour chicken - Combination fried rice - Combination lo mein - Chicken lo mein - Shrimp chow fun - Moo shu beef (with crepes) - Egg drop soup There may be a couple more items that I forgot. Overall it's exactly what you would expect from a chinese take out place - fast, hot, semi-greasy, delicious food with big portion size. The big surprise was how good the beef and broccoli was. It reminded me of one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall takeout joints in NYC that I use to go for a couple of years (consistently multiple times a week). Beef was cooked perfectly, the broccoli was still crunchy and green, and the brown sauce was super good, especially over rice. The roast pork and broccoli was also great - to the point where I wasn't even hungry anymore and still managed to clear another 2-3 servings just to prolong the taste in my mouth. Everything else was really good too - not a single bad dish. One recommendation is to maybe make your order in person - it's easier to just point and choose from the menu, especially since there are different sizes and combo deals. There was a slight phone miscommunication when I ordered the first time (to no one's fault) but even the mis-ordered items were great. Customer service was great too as they offered to fix my meal (I declined the offer as they are small business owners and I didn't want to eat into their profit margins on a simple phone issue). I love the food here! I literally can't get enough of it. Whenever I want Chinese food, I don't hesitate to call them up and order a combo platter of sweet and sour chicken. I've had a lot of the options on the menu but my favorite is the sweet and sour chicken. The combo platter they give you a good amount for the money you pay and usually I have enough left over to eat the next day for lunch. All of the food is cooked fresh and to order, so you don't have to worry about getting frozen food. They offer complementary tea as well, so have a cup when you go. The restaurant is clean and the people are nice. They're open until 10:30 at night most nights and 11 on Saturday so you don't have to worry about a late dinner. Worst experience ever! Used door dash and the prices were all wrong online. Worker at the restaurant would not honor the prices and sent the door dash guy away with no food and never called. When we called, they said the credit card was declined. (Which was a lie). The door dash guy didn't have enough money since the prices were off by $10.
