    Skirt steak

We walked into the restaurant and felt completely ignored. We waited at least 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and finally asked how many people were in our party. When we told them it was just two, we waited another 5 minutes before they said we could be seated. That was acceptable at first, but after being seated, we waited another 20 minutes just to place our order. Once we ordered everything, we ultimately waited an additional 70 minutes for our food to arrive! When the food finally came, it was just okay--definitely not worth the long wait. We were so frustrated that we almost left because of how long it took. We will definitely not be coming back, especially since the food wasn't cheap either! Place environment is not that fresh. Also freezing like the whole restaurant is on 60 below. I was in a sweater and I'm ice cold.

This is a small local restaurant with a nice atmosphere for a date or family meal. This was my first visit and the experience was outstanding. The food was fresh, extremely delicious and presented well. You can see in the photos that I've attached how great the food looked. Our waiter was John and he was extremely attentive. The cost of the food seemed a little pricey but the quality and preparation were excellent. I highly recommend a visit to Campozino. My only fear about posting this review is that I won't be able to get a table when I need to return.

Campozino is on my date night rotation list and we are always happy with the food and service here. The skirt steak is very good (and this is coming from someone who is very picky about red meat) The pear martini is also excellent, even though most restaurants in south river are best known for their sangria.

Our lunch at Campozinos was surprising and excellent..... Why? you may ask was it surprising Simply because I dined at Campozinos not 4 months prior and the experience was so unremarkable that not only did I forget what I ate but the meal didn't even warrant a review. This time was completely different. Early lunch on a Friday and the bar side dining room already sees the bar filled as well as half of the tables and we were seated immediately. Basket of warm rolls, butter and waters with lemon appared soon after....Who does this anymore? Menu is comprehensive and well composed so we start with the octopus salad and clams in garlic sauce. The octopus is tender and seasoned well with toasted garlic, wine and herbs...a unconventional rendition of a Octopus salad but so satisfying. The tender clams in olive oil, white wine, sweet garlic slivers {soft and sweet, they must have been finished in a confit} cilantro with just a hint of finely minced chilis was one of the best I've had and the reason you hang on to those warm rolls...I sopped up every drop of the briny, garlicky sauce and wished there was more. Our main courses were next.... With a florish out came a Grilled Picanha laying on top of a clay roofing tile heated by a sterno along with grilled pineapple and rice, fries and black beans..Hokie perhaps but the Picanha was done perfectly rare, tender and juicy.A little bowl of drippings poured over rice along with the perfect black beans was a carnivore's perfect bite. I had my go to Porco Alentejana {pork with clams}. I've had this iconic dish from Nazaré to Newark and this over abundant version was one of the best. Tender cubes of fatty pork, fried potatoes in a slightly spicy and tart sauce was so satisfying however I did miss the crunchy sour sting of the traditional giardiniera and black olives that usually flavors this dish. A shared bread pudding and a couple shots of Espresso later, with a heavy doggy bag some thoughts.... Campozino is a more refined version of the typical Portuguese restaurant you'll find in Central Jersey with a far better menu, service, excecution and pricing that even their Neighbor right across the parking lot {Portuguese Fisherman}. We had an excellent meal with attentive service, great food and even a Sangria doggy bag when my wife couldn't finish the pitcher... Who does that? We love Campozino and I can't wait to explore their menu further..... I suggest you do the same.

Just an update from my last visit... We were a group of 8 for our Wednesday get together. After a round of Sangria ( get the red) this time we shared 3 apps. That being clams in a garlic sauce, yuka bites with sliced sausage and stuffed mushrooms. Popular entrees were definitely off the daily specials menu. For her, a pork filet mignon that had a wine fig reduction. And I chose a seafood rice dish. Both were excellent. For a dinner, you will have leftovers. Dessert- no chance this time. I gotta mention again that this area is quite popular for Portuguese food. I mean after all they are located in South River and there are 3 different ones in a two mile radius. Our service was excellent. You can tell they are experienced in the industry. It's good to be back again. Cost per person about $55 each. USC#13

I've been making this a normal spot at least once a month. Staff is always friendly, quality of food is usually consistent and the restaurant has a comfortable ambiance. Love their porterhouse and skirt steaks. Mashed potatoes and potato chips are delicious!

No buffet anymore. They added the very popular Rodezio instead and it's well worth it.

The service was outstanding from start to finish -- warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. The restaurant has a very open kitchen, and several of the chefs took time to show us what they were doing and explain the preparation. They were excited to talk about the paella pans, the saffron and sofrito rice base, the wood-and-charcoal fire, and the way the dishes were finished. They clearly take pride in the food and enjoy sharing that with guests. We had the pão with cardamom-chile butter, roasted oysters, garlic shrimp, picanha, the meatball paella, and olive-oil tres leches cake, along with Alvarinho wine and a draft beer. The paella rice itself was excellent, with a very good socarrat and a strong wood-fired character. The pork-and-beef meatballs were good on their own, though for me the combination was a little unusual and I would choose a different paella variation next time. Always changing paella of the day. Seafood would excite me when available. The picanha, oysters, shrimp, bread, and dessert were also all very good. The whole restaurant operated as a team. That added a lot to the experience because the people serving the food really understood how it was prepared. Even small details were thoughtful. Our leftovers were kept at the host stand and we were given a numbered claim disc to retrieve the bag on the way out -- a simple idea that avoids having takeout bags sitting on the table or floor. I had never seen that done before. Overall, Lita delivered very good food with exceptional hospitality. The open kitchen, wood-and-charcoal cooking, and interaction with the chefs made the meal feel personal and memorable. We would definitely return, especially to try another paella variation.

Kind of felt the need to put that out there, it's not really a suburban location. The waitstaff is super friendly, has some jokes, multi-talented (they brought out the guitar a few times to wish some other folks happy birthday), and knowledgeable. The food is really good - everything I tried was just delicious. For the table, we ordered some calamari and empanadas, and both were good. Drinks were also tasty - that sangria was really good, and the mojito (love that they had it available, first of all!) was also a hit. I would double-click on that sangria, though. For my entree, I ordered their whole fish, which was not only delicious but HUGE. I ate about half of it and was full. Then my friend and I split an order of limoncello cake (I think that's what it was), which was on point, and ended w/ espresso, also good. Overall, everything about that place was great, and when I mentioned a Spanish place in Trenton the next morning to some guys I was with, one of them asked, was it Malaga? Our waiter was difficult to understand and couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. The bread was so overbaked and hard we were worried about breaking a tooth. The shrimp appetizer was very good, although swimming in oil; the Iberico rib meat was greasy and came with raw garlic. When the plates were cleared, oil was spilled onto our table. Then we waited about 45 minutes for our entrees and eventually had to track someone down ourselves. We later discovered our waiter eating at the bar while we were waiting. The octopus was both charred and undercooked and far too salty. The nearly 3-inch-thick pork chop, ordered medium, was raw in the center. The "apricot brandy reduction" was essentially jam on top, and the potato chips were thick and underfried. The $37 pork chop was essentially inedible. Getting the check was another ordeal--we had to ask multiple times and were even brought another customer's check and credit card by mistake. There was no adjustment to our bill. After paying, we also had to wait to get our card back. The bartender did seem genuinely concerned when we told him what happened and ultimately offered 10% off a future visit, but after this experience, we certainly won't be returning. The shrimp were good and the bartender tried to help, but overall the food, service, and handling of the situation were far below what we expected.
