We finally tried Subcentral, so glad we did! We have gone to Tastee on Rt 27 for years but have seen the quality decline, this spot is much closer to home and much better quality! We also want to support businesses in our neighborhood. The bread is great, all ingredients were fresh - give it a try! Driving through Jersey once again. I had to stop by Subcentral for a couple of their sandwiches. Again FANTASTIC! I found out the owners name is Mike and it's a family business. I'm glad that they have sandwich boards before the entrance to this little plaza, because it comes up quick and cars are driving fast. You are in for a pretty dangerous turn coming in or out of here unless your route is a right turn in and a right turn out. So I make the easy turn and come in. The shop is very clean, which I appreciate, and there are 3 people working. The older gentleman cuts the meats for the super sub, which is good- not pre-sliced. But when the sandwich is assembled it was behind a counter so I couldn't see what was going onto the bread. Weird. Once assembled, the sandwich emerges and the younger kid tops it with lettuce tomato onion and oil/vin. That's exactly what I want, but that's all they have- at least on display when they ask what you want on it. No pickles/olives/peppers... whatever else you weirdos want on a sandwich. No idea if they have it in back. Old man then comes back, around the kid, and wraps up the sandwich. Nicely wrapped I may add. I get rung out by employee #3. The system wasn't the most streamlined, but it worked. Added chips and a soda for around $16. So on to the food. The flavor of all the meats kinda blended into just a pronounced boiled ham flavor. This may be because there was more ham than anything else, I didn't see the sandwich assembled, but it was a bit disappointing. The onions didn't have a strong flavor, but I didn't get heartburn either, so that's a wash. Tomatoes were good and lettuce was crisp. Not enough oil and vin, so a bit dry. Bread was light and fluffy, and the entire sandwich was huge. Overall, not bad. If I worked nearby and ordered this for lunch I'd be happy, I'm just not going out of my way to get here again. This place is on the way to the parkway for me, so I pass by it enough that I'd stop to grab some road trip eats. read more

A phenomenal little sub place stuck in between offices, a dance studio and a flower shop. The owner is usually there making the subs to order himself, and theres a wide variety at reasonable prices. I always get the meatball provolone there, and the red sauce he uses on the meatballs is one of my favorites. The wide variety of daily soups is also a plus, as is the fact that you can even get milkshakes (and coffee now!). I used to love right across the way from there, and ordered there all the time. Consider it a testament that even though i moved a solid 15 minutes away i still come back here from time to time for my sub fix. I seriously recommend it read more

Move over Tastee, there just may be a new, best sandwich shop in Edison. I found out about this place from one of those penny-saver ads and got curious when I saw how close they are to the Metropark train station (less than a mile). Subcentral is a traditional sub sandwich shop. No trendy combinations or exotic ingredients, just straight up, hearty sandwiches at competitive prices. They use Boar's Head products, which they slice per order. Their bread is excellent and the sandwiches are generously portioned. What more can you ask for in a sandwich shop? I'll admit their location was a little tough to find on my first visit, but do yourself a favor and find them. You'll be happy you did. read more

Great new sub place in Metropark area. Owner very genial. They forgot to pack up one of my subs to go. I had to go back to the store. Not really a huge inconvenience, I only live a few min. away. When I went back to pick-up, he gave me some extras, which I did not feel he had to do, very nice of him. Beyond that, the sandwiches are very good. Better than Jersey Mikes, why go to Subway?? On par with Sandwich Station. One of the best deli subs in the area. It was cold and raining. I was visiting NJ from out of town and had lunch at this hidden gem! The service is excellent. The establishment is clean and welcoming. Great sub sandwich! I got the #4 which is an Italian. The bread was excellent - crusty and chewy. They use Boar's Head Meats which was thinly sliced and mounded on the sub. No skimping here. They suggested this place and I went and got a roast beef w/swiss cheese, onions, lett. & tomatoes and a small soup (cheesy chicken tortilla). Everything was excellent. I'm originally from NY so a hero can be an institution. Went back and got the Hungarian Mushroom soup, OMG! Everytime they have this soup from now on I'm getting it.
