As each is hand made, they came out within a few minutes of each other. All were delicious, but definitely pricey! For food, we had avocado toast, egg Sammie with beef bacon, and the anday salad burgers! Each was different with many layers of flavors, from onions to aioli. Named after the sweet syrup used across a wide variety of mithaaiyan, Chashni is brought to us by the ownership of Namkeen and is similarly geared towards an ABCD audience with a Pakistani-American "fusion" menu. The cafe received a good amount of hype thanks to its aesthetically-pleasing "Gulabi" waffle and other sweet brunch items. The waffle itself was good, but didn't have any noticeable desi flavors as far as I was concerned. They claim that kulfi is used as a topping, but it tasted like plain old vanilla ice cream to me. Within the Pakistani items, we tried the parantha and ande wala burger. Plain paranthas are much more popular in Pakistan than in India, and traditionally would be sold by street vendors alongside gajar ka halwa. But plain paranthas do run the risk of being bland, and this one was not especially noteworthy. I much prefer the option available at Lahore in Secaucus, and similarly the ande wala burger here doesn't compare to the one at Food Street. read more

I picked up a cappuccino on my way to work and I was so pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The ambiance was pink and amazing, I wish I could have stayed to drink my coffee in the cute booths. The baristas were working hard and happy to take my order. I requested that they please be careful not to burn my almond milk and they did not, so I enjoyed my coffee so much (MANY baristas do burn nondairy milks and it can be so frustrating). I'm a huge fan of brunch, and while I'm always up for a visit to a diner or Dim Sum. However, once and a while you want something different so while scrolling through the ol' Yelp app for brunch places Chashni came up. Chashni is a small, family owned eatery that seeks to combine Pakistani flavors with traditional brunch fare. Located in Chatham's main drag Chashni is in the perfect area for you to have a nice walk before and after your meal. Chashni is not huge. I'd say once you get about 10-15 people in there it can feel a bit crowded. Also, there is no rest room that I could see so keep that in mind as well. That said, the interior is really cute! Nice, simple but pretty decor creates a nice atmosphere to dine in. So here's a rundown of what my gf and I tried: ANDAY WALA BURGER (lentil patty, omelet, onions, tomatoes, mint chutney, spicy tamarind chutney on a sesame bun) This burger was a wonderful combination of flavors. Sure I've had veggie burgers before, but once you add the mint chutney and tamarind in? It becomes something extra phenomenal. I will admit the burger did fall apart after a few bites but I just finished it up with a fork. STRAWBERRY + ROSE TOAST (rose infused whipped mascarpone, fresh house made strawberry compote with pistachios on sourdough) If everything in the description above sounds good to you, then you will love this dish. What really impressed me is that the rose flavor was perfect. It did not overwhelm the sweetness, nor was it so faint that it was but a whisper. Instead, all the ingredients were perfectly balanced and even better? The toast had the perfect chew so you were not wrestling with it as you ate it. GULABI WAFFLE (pistachio, rose petals, kulfi ice cream on a gulab jamun belgian waffle) Waffles rock on their own, but make it a gulab jamun waffle and you're just taking it to another level. Then add pistachio (one of my favorite flavors ever), kulfi ice cream and rose petals and what you get is a beautiful combination of flavors that is sweet and fragrant all at the same time. I was worried the gulab jamun part of the waffle would be lost, but nope, the flavor was definitely there in the background and it was great! CHAI (pakistani tea with milk, cardamom, served hot) I am a big fan of chai, and while I will not say that this is the best chai I've ever had it was a fantastic example of the drink. You could taste the spices but it was smooth at the same time. I loved my first visit to Chashni and I really look forward to visiting again! read more

Felt misled by the reviews here. Not necessarily a terrible experience by any means, but certainly didn't experience the hype of this place. Have come here a few times and have generally had the same experience each time. Very small inside with limited seating, so I'm guessing most people tend to opt for take-out which I haven't done as I've dined-in each time I came here. Having tried several items, the food is just okay in my opinion, with the Dewani Waffle being probably the only item I would recommend. Although they always seem to be out of the sweet mascarpone every time I've been, which to me is unusual. In general if you're coming for food, I would recommend the waffles as they have been done well each time I come. I do like the berries and ice cream they provide, as they go well together. Service was disappointing. Every time I have been met with indifference/rudeness, and they seemed annoyed when I would even ask questions about the items. Also as a warning, there is no bathroom even for paying customers, or at least I was refused one when asking. read more

If you're into the shake shack style type of burger, you will enjoy the burgers here! They are "smash burgers", thinner patty and not super greasy, served on a soft potato roll. The chipotle sauce is similar or the same as the sauce from namkeen. They are generous with the pickles and the grilled and fried onions complemented the burger well. The serrano peppers in the spicy smash burger were HOT, exactly how I like it! The staff are always friendly here and the restaurant has a nice calming cafe feel. Great option for Indian fusion right by Namkeem. I had originally learned about this place from a Yelp elite event that I had attended and since returned a few times. Usually get the burger because it's very flavorful with the indian spices. The burger is quite juicy. I think a double patty is probably best, but even the single is decent. Tip: skip the fries and instead order a chicken tender from Namkeem to have on the side! read more

I had the perfect waffle today. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. If you're a waffle fan, you should come here. You enter a small store front restaurant. They have about 6 marble bistro tables. Soft jazz plays, making it a relaxing place. I came early on a Friday morning and the place was empty. You order and pay at the counter and they bring the food when it's ready. My waffle and chai were made to order and were not only beautiful looking but divine tasting. I got the gulabi waffle - pistachio, rose petals, kulfi ice cream on a gulab jamun belgian waffle. The syrup was like the kind that drizzles over baklava. It was a light application, which was perfect because the kulfi ice cream with the syrup gave you a nice sweetness. The pistachios were ground to a fine dust and were lovely. Honestly the whole thing was perfect. It was more of a dessert but I'm a gal who eats cake for breakfast. I also had chai tea. It was good but I'm not a big fan of chai and won't comment further. We ordered an egg sandwich and a waffle along with a couple of coffees. The latte and the flat white were the exact same size, and the oat milk wasn't steamed well--it was a bit watery. The egg sandwich came out first, and then we saw that after the plate was delivered to the table, they started making the waffle. A very nice cafe! We stopped in for drinks and light snacks. We got coffees, teas, and a mocktail. We also got a burger, burrata toast, and a waffle. I recommend grabbing a waffle here. The food is great, tho the service lacked a bit. When we came here, we stood at the counter waiting to order for at least 10 mins with no one greeting or even acknowledging us. We didn't realize we could order from a QR code on the tables, but the two empty tables hadn't even been bussed so the QR codes weren't very obvious. All the barista had to ask was are you dining in or taking out and let us know what to do from there, But after standing there we finally figured it out on our own. Once we finally sat down and ordered from our seats, someone from the back promptly came out and bussed our table. Food came out fairly quickly as well tho each item came out at different times. So don't expect to eat together if you're in a small group. What they lack in service, they make up for in food quality. Flavors are bold and unique. We ordered the chicken and waffles, gulabi waffle and the mint tamarind smash burger. Only issue with the burger was the middle was a bit soggy, perhaps a sturdier bun that can hold up against sauce and a deliciously greasy burger patty. Other than that, everything was real good. They had some great background music and I absolutely loved what we tried.
