Definitely my regular for my morning or midday Matcha. The staff is chill with an amazing memory and the drinks are consistently on point. There is almost always music playing and I really appreciate them taking orders over the phone and online. They also have this cool complimentary option of personalizing your cup with a black & white photo of you if you ask. I've also had the turmeric latte and the avocado toast which are worth getting again. The toast was fresh and flavorful. They also have an enclosed booth that looks like it seats 4. Great for a little open privacy. The couches are quite comfortable as well. They have punch cards which is good, but I'm terrible with remembering so it would be great if they went digital with rewards. Maybe 1 point per visit or 1 point per $1 with tiered rewards. Would love to see more vegan options on the menu, maybe a cinnamon roll lol. read more

If you're looking for really good food and cafe drinks, Harper's needs to be on your list! Had one of the best chai lattes of my LIFE at this spot. It was rich & sweet with the perfect amount of cinnamon. I also ordered the "Harper's Club with turkey bacon" and it was a 10/10! The hot honey was the cherry on top. I will definitely have to go back and try their coffee, but I am confident it will not disappoint. It is a smaller coffee shop, so seating is somewhat limited, but I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. I wouldn't say the space is all that aesthetic, it certainly has more of a chill, laid back vibe. But there are very cool paintings along the side wall, and even a little gondola lift booth that I think is very unique :) They also have a section with a bunch of games to play at your table too, which is cool! read more

I finally made it over to Harper's on a Sunday around noon for a late breakfast, and honestly... Harper's is the cutest. The vibes alone are worth the visit. It's cozy, small, has warm décor, friendly staff, just enough seating, and the music overhead was chef's kiss. And bonus: it's a Black-owned business, which I will always support. We ordered a small iced coffee with oat milk and sugar, an iced chai latte, the grilled cheese with arugula, and the egg platter. Everything was pretty good -- I wasn't blown away, but it was solid and seasoned well. I really wanted to try the French toast because I've heard so many good things, but they told me it would be a 30-minute wait. Our food ended up taking about 20 minutes anyway, so honestly, I probably should've just held on and waited for it. Next time! Prices are what you'd expect for a coffee shop in the suburbs of West Orange. We lucked out with a parking spot right in front, but parking in that area can definitely be tricky. They also sell Harper's Café merch -- t-shirts, sweatshirts, and quarter zips. I'm definitely going back to try the French toast and the pancakes because I saw several people ordering them, so they must be worth it. I'd like to love this place. It's a small, somewhat cozy cafe. However, after two visits, it's a hard sell. The hummus toast is essentially one piece of toast with a little hummus spread on top and some garnishing. For about $13. It's not even close to a meal and the price is not justified. The coffee comes lukewarm. I suppose if you want to come here and use it as a quiet workspace with WiFi it could be ok. But they need to up the food and beverage offering. read more

I stopped here today to get a bite to eat in between running to places. Usually I have a great experience. Not today. Just opened up my short stack pancakes with turkey bacon and took a bite. It was cold. Not even lukewarm. I would've returned it but I had to be somewhere and had to eat quickly. I'm just super disappointed in the quality today. My husband and I stopped in Harper's Cafe this weekend. We enjoyed our drinks. I got a large green matcha and he got a large Americano. I would get the matcha again. Originally I ordered the Blue Matcha, but was told they no longer do that there. Alas, I missed my chance to try it :( There was good music playing and we enjoyed the artwork on the walls. Harper's Cafe is a small Cafe in West Orange with a vibrant afro-centric flair. It's cozy enough to get some work done or just read a book peacefully. The only drawback was they didn't have the air conditioner on during a hot day. I came to try their famous double drinks. I got half matcha and half mango lemonade. I'm in love with Harper's cafe. It's a relatively new black owned coffee shop and it brings the perfect vibe for a productive work day. There's lots of seating with options for a reading/lounging vs a table and comfortable chair to get work done on your laptop. I ordered a chai with oat milk and it was delicious. I appreciate them using mugs for drinks ordered inside to reduce waste. The best part about my experience was the music and beautiful art work on the walls. I am so excited to give this place five stars. I went here for brunch on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded. This is an adorable coffee shop that also serves food. The coffee is absolutely incredible. I got the whipped coffee and it was actually incredible. We got to sit in this cool booth, I highly recommend doing this at least once. We got lucky and the family sitting in there when we got arrived finished just as we placed our order. For food, we got the Truffled Grilled Cheese and the Pancakes with Maple Butter Syrup with a side of Home Fries. The Truffled Grilled Cheese was absolutely delicious. If you are vegetarian, and get it without bacon, you'll need something else to cut the flavor, but it is excellent with the bacon. Very flavorful and they use good bread. It comes with a side of arugula which is good, but the dressing was just okay. The Pancakes literally have the BEST syrup. The syrup is house made and I suggested to our waitress that they serve shots of it. The home fries were good, but not great. For the things I said that were good, but not great, it just because everything else was so delicious. This is a great place for a quiet brunch, to grab a coffee, or get some work done. I love this place, and it kind of feels like a hidden gem. Service is excellent, but you have to ask for water if you want it. If you want a quick bite, this might not be the best place as everything is made to order and fresh and our brunch probably lasted an hour and a half which was perfect for us as we wanted a lazy morning kind of pace. They were apologetic about how long it took, but we honestly didn't mind. We got the Erica Scones to go and they were absolutely delicious! I heated mine up in the microwave and it was really quite excellent. They have a gender neutral single stall bathroom, and there is street parking. I highly recommend at least getting a coffee here. Harpers is almost a hidden little coffee shop right in unassuming area. Once you step inside the coffee shop though the vibe and aroma surround you. There are several choices of drinks and a small selection of breakfast sandwiches which I've not had the pleasure of trying yet, but can attest the scones are great. There are board games to play, wifi and seating that encourages staying awhile to sip and snack or grab and go. They have some merch here if you need a hoodie or tshirt. I can absolutely see Harpers growing, especially since it's location is almost standalone in the way of independent coffee cafes and it's within walking distance of many homes and apartments in the area. Finally made it in here recently after hearing about this coffee shop for a year or so. It is very cute! Downside is the parking in the area is hard so its best if you can walk over here. I only had a hot chocolate and scone for my first visit but they were both good. I am looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu options! A great local spot to grab your morning coffee to go or hang for a bit and get some work done. Friendly and attentive service makes getting that caffeine fix something to look forward to in the mornings. The pastries (croissants, pain au chocolat, kouign-amann...) in the case look delicious and flaky but I've yet to indulge. There are some small seats and tables out front that are nice to soak up some sun as you enjoy your beverage. Most importantly their coffee is great and their prices are reasonable. I'm a bit of a mess in the morning, so I usually just go with a pure caffeine hit of double espresso and theirs is exactly what I'm looking for (also a pretty generous shot). Coffee is never burnt or over/under extracted it just has a pleasant round taste. Still it's deep and rich but thankfully not overly sour in flavor (as tends to be the most recent trend at many cafes). Some cafes are just convinced that everyone craves a super acidic fruity cup of coffee in the morning which boggles my mind but to each their own. I've tried some of their latte flavors too and they're great, the coffee isn't totally overshadowed by the mix in flavor. Def. Recommend! read more

I got the BLT which tasted nothing like a BLT, not even lettuce included just bitter arugula and the not so simple sandwich tasted extremely bland, it required ketchup to be edible. No seasoning overall and the "home fries" which are just boiled potatoes that look dyed red...?? No taste present other than straight potato. This was a cross between two dishes as I wanted the arugula but not the bacon. The decor is nice, they put effort into making it look kinda boho chique. Some of it feels a tad cliche (yet another painting of Biggie Smalls?) but it's fun nonetheless.
