Guy was nice enough to tell me that they had switched to wraps instead of rolls. He also said the usual wrap also ran out, so they have a substitute. I hate to say the sandwich was just okay, nothing that would have me return there again, since it was just an ordinary THEC sandwich, which I would prefer to have in a bagel or croissant. I love the decor and vibe of this place. There are antiques and old albums and plenty of cool stuff to look at . The service was busy but efficient. He managed to keep things moving while running into the kitchen, handing out takeout, and writing down orders at the counter. My turkey bacon melt was good, but I would have liked it warmed all the way through, maybe a few seconds of the turkey on the grill? I will go back and try more. stopped here from word of mouth. It's a dainty cafe. I'm sure it's a local gem. But it sucked that the roast beef melt was cold. Like that's supposed to hot served warm and it was not. It was a cold cut literally cold. Would have enjoyed if it was truly a roast beef melt. The chips on the side were good but next time I'll request the chips to be unsalted and to heat up the sandwich. The true gem was the massive banana bread which seem pretty seasonal with their fillings. So I'd stop by for that and an iced coffee next time. I showed up a little bit after they closed on Sunday at 2 PM but was delighted to meet the owners 'Silver' & Cigne (pronounced Scene-A!) I was told it's Danish! The owners got married last year and could not have been nicer! I was really excited and looking forward to trying some of their menu items but Yelp shows that they close at 3 PM on Sundays, it's actually 2 PM and apparently they have to pay to have it changed, which is so silly! I loved this little café and I can't wait to come back! The menu items look amazing and I can't wait to try one of their tapas nights, you can find out on Instagram if you check them out and start following them! I ordered a yummy blackened unsweetened iced tea with simple syrup and this delicious gluten-free Blondie. I think Silver felt bad since they had closed and I couldn't order any freshly made menu items, so he generously gifted me a coconut scone and a delicious overnight oats which I'm about to try now! I was so impressed and really enjoyed chatting with the owners and I look forward to coming back and bringing friends! If you're lucky enough stop by and order some food, you won't be sorry! Cannot say enough about True Salvage. The decor is incredibly quirky & cool, like you're visiting an organized friend or family member that's also a hoarder. I love its antique, unique vibe. They have a sizable menu with a selection of pastries/desserts and sandwiches. I got the pumpkin pancake bread pudding, and, WOW -- first of all, it was enormous, and second but most importantly, it was DELICIOUS. This is definitely the kind of dish that you could split with another person, but you may not want to. I also got a sandwich to-go to have for lunch later in the day -- it was roast beef with fresh mozzarella, caramelized onions, and arugula -- and it was also insanely good. So flavorful, and that bread tho! I also got an iced coffee with oat milk, nothing standout about it, it was perfectly fine. Came here after reading it was rated top pork roll in nj, even though it's north jersey. Everyone with me was really impressed with the sandwich rolls nice crunch but not too hard. It's a great texture bite. I have had a few of top 20 pork roll locations in nj, and I agree this one is the best. Short rib cup we all shared it, everyone glad we bought one. Bread pudding was a shared and great, while I am not normally a fan of bread pudding normall, but found myself going back for more bites. Extremely friendly staff, nice decor. Food: The food is wonderful; they source Balthazar Bakery and Croissants, and everything else is baked/made in cafe by the owner/chef. The bread puddings, especially, are extremely good; I always make sure to grab one to go to have later in the day! Decor and Ambience: the store has on display a large selection of vinyls and books, and often plays an eclectic mix of old and new stores, all bops and jams. Service: In addition to their stellar food, the service here is top tier as well. The person who works here, Silver (I believe, sorry if I got your name wrong!) is very attentive as well as empathetic. On a recent visit, another table had accidentally knocked over one of their hot drinks; Silver immediately came out and brought over paper towels and even replaced their their drink. Right on the corner of Elmwood and orchard,True salvage sounds more like a scrap yard but it's not. Decorated with all things vintage but in the kitchen more is going on. I've had True Salvage bookmarked because I kept hearing about how good the Taylor ham (pork roll if you prefer) , egg and cheese or 'THEC' is here. As a huge 'THEC' (yeah I made that up) fan I can honestly say this is probably the best one I've had. First the bun is a Balthazar bun. Never hear of it but it sure is good. Not too thick and is like a brioche bun with a cheese slice on each side. 3 slices of meaty taylor ham and eggs nicely stuffed in there. It's just a wonderful presentation and will say without a doubt that if you too enjoy 'THEC', you need to try it here. I had a banana muffin I got to go as well which was also excellent. I had a great lunch there yesterday. The turkey and bacon sandwich was very tasty and the roll it was on was terrific-slightly crunchy, but soft and tasty. The sandwich was generous in size and reasonably priced. I had a cherry almond scone that was delightful with the taste of the cherries and dough. The decaf was the best I have had in years. My wife liked the tea bread-like slice I brought home. The owners are very nice and friendly; the cook-owner Signe grew up for some time in the area and her husband (who was the order-taker at the counter) now live in the area. Organized a private event at True Salvage and it was as close to perfection as I'd hoped. Picked the spot as I wanted a really private experience where we could ideally have a whole place to ourselves. The sweet spot for a private dinner event in the space is 20-26 people I think but obviously table configurations can vary according to party size. In any case, the decor and vibe (with customized music and dimmed lighting) of True Salvage creates an amazingly comfortable ambiance that is intimate, casual and unique. Nothing fancy or pretentious... just a genuinely lovely space. Importantly, the food was excellent. Chef Signe was super accommodating and helpful in putting together the menu of seasonal dishes. The family-style menu of multiple plates allowed our guests to have diverse varieties. As good as the breakfast/brunch items are here normally, Signe is a highly underrated talent on dinner dishes. It comes across during their tapas nights but really came through during our event. Dishes were fresh, tasty and looked great. Service and pacing were simple, unintrusive and effective (thanks Silva and Martha!). Guests loved the space so much I wish I had arranged for extended stay there later into the night as it was such a great place to hang out after desserts. Was initially worried about parking but there were plenty of street parking available in a reasonably quiet neighborhood. I've only eaten here once despite living 2 blocks away and I am really glad we decided to come here for lunch after I read a few reviews here, it definitely lived up to the good reception the Maplewood customers have given it. Everyone mentions the decor. It really does feel like you've gone back in time to a day when the coffee shop ambiance was a real art form. Eclectic, kitschy, with a gazillion records, books, random vintage furniture and unique finds. I live across the street, so it's literally my neighborhood spot. Nice strong coffee, fresh baked goods, and a limited but perfect menu when you want to grab something fresh and go. I have not yet gone to a tapas night, which are held once a month, but I hear the food is fantastic and slightly different each time. My only wish is that they served espresso drinks in addition to the drip coffee, and that it could be open 7 days a week. Because it's a small business owner, I get they need days off too! read more

I've spent my formative years in NYC, but never had a Taylor ham/pork roll sandwich. I was heading up to North Jersey to shop at Mitsuwa and decided to stop in True Salvage for its Taylor ham sandwich, voted the best in Jersey. I can't compare to any others I've had, but it was objectively very good, cheese on both sides of the crusty roll from Balthazar, slices of grilled Taylor ham, and a thick slab of scrambled egg. The key was the crusty roll, which gives presence and structure to the sandwich where other places opt for a cheap/easy kaiser roll. Also got the roast beef sandwich, which also benefits from the terrific Balthazar ciabatta. I particularly liked how well the horseradish clicked with the roast beef and cheddar. Did not care for the house-fried kettle chips though, which I thought were oil-logged. To close it all out, I grabbed some pastries for the road. The cheddar-jalapeño scone featured chunks of of cheddar inside and bits of seared cheddar on the outside. The bacon-walnut-maple syrup bread pudding was a fine medley of fall flavors. Terrific service here as well, as Chef Signe and her staff obliged my questions about parking and request to plate the sandwiches for photography and then re-box them afterwards. Given how busy they were because of the recent award, it was very kind of them to do so. Will definitely visit the next time I visit North Jersey! read more

But I will say, even though they toasted the bagel a little bit harder then I expected, it was still very delicious . Everything cooked perfectly and fulfilling for my late breakfast . What an absolute gem! True Salvage Cafe offers a variety of baked goods and some of the best coffee this side of the Hudson River. The proprietor is lovely, and we've always felt well attended to every time we've stopped in here. Two highlights stand out: The mixed-berry muffin was fresh, moist and delicious, while the generous portion of bread pudding was flavorful with an incredibly satisfying texture and flavor. The best seats in the house might just be the antique bicycle repurposed as a window-facing two-top. From this vantage point, you'll be able to scan the bookshelf of vinyl records, or just look out the window and watch passers-by. The décor is eclectic and harks back to a bygone era, so much so that you might be surprised to learn that it's a relatively new business. The vintage "Elmwood Sweet Shop" sign hanging on the wall once graced the front of the adjacent shop, referencing a bit of local history. I'll be back as often as I can! read more
