A two egg breakfast, an order of lemon ricotta pancakes with a side of bacon, and two coffees was $50. That's insane for an average breakfast pre-tip. I would not call the side of bacon generous to justify the cost, it was two small strips. I was underwhelmed by the lemon ricotta pancakes. They were plain pancakes with a bitter lemon ricotta drizzle on the top layer. I've had some amazing lemon ricotta pancakes elsewhere. Whatever recipe they are using for the lemon ricotta is just not good. The drizzle was dry and so bitter. I usually don't use syrup but these needed syrup because they were so bitter. The cleanliness of this establishment is questionable, which is likely why we won't return. One of the glasses set at the table was dirty. We did get a new one when requested. The bottle of water provided appeared dirty, which we noticed after being there awhile. When I asked for a to go box, the busser went to the back to get one for me. After the gentleman walked away I looked in the box before placing my food in, and saw crumbs in one corner and short dark hairs. By this point we had reached the end of our dining experience, so it wasn't worth making a fuss over, we just left. Expensive breakfast for the quality of food. Everything felt microwaved/frozen. Our table ordered 3 different orders of pancakes and 1 order of waffles. We also had an omelette and potatoes. Pancakes and waffles were like rubber! Chewy, and hard to cut. We think they were made the day before or early in the morning and they have been sitting in a warming drawer for hours. Decided to try butter and jam and Garwood, New Jersey. It was a disappointment. The bakery flight had clearly been microwaved because within minutes the pastries were hard as rocks the brioche French toast. Also a disappointment, completely dry and almost tasteless. My side order of eggs were cold and congealed by the time they got to the table, we were charged for a bottomless cup of coffee, and yet no one ever came to refill the cup because it's relatively new. I came here for brunch with my sister. The restaurant is clean and has a good amount of seating. We came on a Sunday afternoon and were seated fairly quickly. Our waiter was nice and never made us feel rushed. They have a great beverage menu, different iced teas, mocktails, coffees and even refreshers! As a group of 6, we sat outside on a nice day for lunch. Service was super quick and waiters happily accomodated our bigger group which we really appreciated. Came with a group of 7. Read previous reviews for being an excellent brunch place, we thought we would give it a try. We tried to call ahead however it was an ai service so was unable to make reservations or check the status of thy could accommodate our large group. We decided to take a chance. Note Online reservations does not apply to large groups. We arrived, lots of parking in an outdoor lot. Few Handicap Parking spots near the entrance. 1hr wait, no problem we just stroll around the shops nearby. Returned in 45mins and table was ready. Two sizable seating areas. Not stroller accessible. Stairs up to both seating areas. Bathrooms right by the front door of the host area. We were with a toddler actively in potty training. Be aware the toliet seats are elongated and doesn't fit most toddler seat covers. There is a changing station in one of the bathroom. Now to the food, having a sizable food menu and cafe menu got our group excited. They ordered the pistachio latte and nitro cold brew. Both were well received. The jam and butter board was ordered for starters. With such a large group we ordered a diverse array of items. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros (pictured included) MIL ordered the corn beef hash, partner ordered the hot honey chicken and waffles, BIL got the Rueben hash and we ordered chicken strips for our toddler (forgot what the others ordered) The food took about 45 mins. The food was overall bland and disappointing the chicken was incredibly dry and tough. Our toddler who is obsessed with chicken strips, spit it out. I tried it and it was hard to swallow. Even the server agreed it was dryer than usual. The waffles were bland and dry. The only flavoring came from the hot honey. The corn beef hash was over sweet potato home fries. The scrambled eggs were nicely prepared with their house hollandaise sauce (bland). The corn beef was pleasantly surprising. Normally I avoid corn beef due the salt content however this was not as salty as I expected. But than again bland. The Ruben was tiny. I thought it was for a child. The chicken and waffles came with 1 piece of chicken, 1/3 size of our toddlers chicken strips. We were surprised there was 3% dine in service fee. There was no indication on their website only a 3% credit card fee. I cannot recall the menu citing this in person dining fee. Meaning an extra 6% fee just for using your credit card and dining in. This is crazy. Otherwise the food was bland. Nothing stood out. Not even their butter and jam. You would come here for the ambience not the food. Environment is well lit with boathouse vibes. The "Brussels waffle" was missing something, maybe milk? It was extremely dense and heavy unlike the characteristics of a light and airy waffle with crisp edges (could also be sitting under the warmer too long as well). I might be hyper critical of this eatery due to their excessive fees and lack of meeting expectations from menu descriptions. I came here for brunch and it was delicious. My friend and I were in the area for purse fixing. She found this place and im glad she did. We shared the platter of butter and jams. The butters and jams were really good. I definitely recommend this platter to everyone. As an entree, I ordered the huevos rancheros. The huevos rancheros were good and it was a good portion. I liked the crunchy tortilla but I didn't like the sausage they used in the dish. I would definitely come back if I were in the area. My friend let me taste her lemon ricotta pancake. Stopped here for breakfast after a work trip before heading to the airport and can't stop thinking about it! Everything I tasted was insanely delicious. I had the wild mushroom scramble, potatoes, and some berries. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the most incredible egg scramble I've ever had. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and so crispy. The menu has enough variety and is not overwhelming. We ordered the hot honey chicken and waffles and the red peppers, mozzarella omelette. My husband devoured the hot honey chicken and waffles, usually he's not a hot honey fan but he said it was delicious. Good piece of chicken and beautiful fried yet still juicy. If you prefer to dip your food then I'd asked for the syrup on the side. The omelette was so good. Lots of cheese and red peppers. They pool tips so everyone helps as they go by if you need something. The place was chaotic. It didn't seem like anyone was in charge. Even with a reservation we waited for 20+ minutes. The hostess seemed confused often as people came in. And there was a woman who came in that was very entitled - giving the hostess a hard time and the hostess didn't seem to handle her well as the woman was disruptive to what was happening. We're so glad we stumbled upon this gem while searching for a brunch spot. The food is excellent with a wide variety of options, from brunch to fresh salads and sandwiches. The fresh-squeezed orange juice is a standout, and the coffee is spot on. Our top picks were the butter and jam board (a fun way to sample their delicious house-made spreads) and the goat cheese and smoked salmon toast, which was delicious. Pico & Guac is located at 30 Cook Plaza in Madison in space that's shared with Butter & Jam. So, just how does this work? Butter & Jam, a cafe specializing in breakfast/brunch/lunch, closes at 3pm, and Pico & Guac, a casual modern Mexican BYOB restaurant with its own unique menu, opens at 530pm. It's an innovative arrangement that allows two unique restaurants to coexist in the same space. (I'm not sure if you can order off the Pico & Guac menu if you wander into Butter & Jam for lunch.) With two restaurants sharing the location, the dining area features a very casual, open ambiance and neutral, modern decor with tables that can be assembled to accommodate larger groups or smaller parties. Pico & Guac features generous portions of tasty made-to-order modern interpretations of traditional Mexican cuisine - including a variety of salads, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and entrées such as carne asada, chicken mole poblano, chicken mango pico, and salmon avocado pico. On my most recent visit, my dining party grazed through several generous portions of the tortilla chips ($6) and pico de gallo ($6) while patiently waiting for our meals. The freshly-made pico de gallo is excellent! I opted for the Blackened Salmon Tacos ($18) comprised of three tacos -- 6" flour tortillas topped with blackened salmon and fresh mango pico de gallo -- that was very tasty and quite filling even though it didn't come with a side dish. The host and server was friendly and attentive but not overwhelming, although the service seemed to be a bit slow even though the restaurant was mostly empty when we were there at 8pm on a weeknight. PRO TIP: The front of the restaurant opens into the municipal Cook Avenue parking lot (located at 73 Cook Avenue) which offers plenty of free parking. You can also find plenty of street parking on Main Street and walk down the Cook Plaza Alley between the Snooki Shop and Formaggio's Pizza. read more

If you're looking for a pleasant brunch experience, this is unfortunately NOT the place. We made a reservation several days ahead of time for Butter & Jam brunch on a Sunday, and we still waited nearly 30 minutes to get seated. It then took 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, and another 30 for our coffee alone to come out, before the food finally came almost 20 more minutes later. The food was mediocre, but came out room temperature, if not cold in some places, as if they had been made and sat in the kitchen for a while before being brought out to us. On top of that, parts of the order were incorrect or even missing (ie wrong bread, missing sides of jam, watered down matcha latte made without milk!) Upon receiving the check, we noticed we were charged twice for some items and that the prices were more expensive than what was listed on their menu (which is completely online). We politely and calmly talked to the manager about our experience (slow service, cold food, incorrect bill) and his response was essentially "well that's just how brunch is." He at least settled the bill discrepancy, but was overall dismissive towards us. I wanted to like this place, but ended up leaving our 2+ hour brunch unimpressed and disappointed. I order the same breakfast and the same side dish every time I come here so I know exactly what to expect. I ordered the brisket eggs Benedict with a side of cheese grits. I should've known something was up when the server asked me what kind of cheese I wanted in my grits. The grits had always been served warm with cheddar nicely incorporated in them. She asked if I wanted yellow American cheese grits. What! I told her I wanted cheddar cheese grits. Food comes and I start digging in. The color of the brisket looked reddish instead of the typical darker color. That was clue number 2. I took a bite of the brisket and the taste was inedible. It tasted like chlorine. The biscuit was soaked in this awful tasting meat juice so I couldn't eat the biscuit either. I could only eat the two eggs. I went to take a bite of the grits. The grits were hard, almost coarse, cold and only had a few sprinkles of non cheddar looking cheese. It was inedible. I told the server that couldn't eat most of what I ordered. She said she'd tell the manager. When she came to collect payment she charged me for all the food. I told her I was not paying for the grits. I paid a full meal price for 2 poached eggs and a couple pieces of potatoes. I will never go to this place again. read more
