Ok food but extremely rude woman. We won't be returning and will be sure to spread the word. I tried twice to give this place a chance.

If I could give a zero rating I don't even think that would be good enough. I ordered this and in the description it says comes with onions peppers and mushrooms. Take a look and see if you can find anything of the sort? Called them and what a joke this owner is. He wanted to argue instead of making it right. Don't order anything he tea or lemonade it's tasted like water. Horrible food horrible service. Go somewhere else. The only way you can improve is close your doors read more

They make excellent cold sloppy joes just get a side of Cole slaw as this makes for more than one meal, they are more than a take out place as they have enough sit down spots to bring a friend or two, but no large groups. Very good food. I love their Italian sub & pizza (cheese or pepperoni)... Yum! This is mainly a take out Italian deli & they do a huge takeout business. There are maybe 4 tables. Today 9/15/2024 at 4 pm i decided I would try Main Street Sub in Madison NJ because I've passed it at least 500 times going to work. the place is very clean, a good sign, I thought the food would be good if not excellent because it does have a reasonably good business. I order a stromboli and a meatball sandwich. my take on the meatball sandwich was 5 out of 10 because I'm generous with my compliments.. the stromboli on the other hand was if you were Christopher Columbus looking for America and you thought you found India you would be right. it would be harder to find the holly grail than the sausage in the sandwich. it is a vegan stromboli with a spay of sausage flavoring. save your money. buy canned food that is 50 years old and you will be doing better. sorry, I had to write this review I would much have preferred a positive outcome. read more

Horrible customer service. They messed up an order & when I called to ask if I was charged -I was berated and told I never ordered what I asked for. To be yelled at & told "sweetheart I've been doing this 40 years" I was actually fine with the mistake as long as they didn't charge me but the attitude was despicable. read more

When they do a good job in the kitchen the food is tasty, unfortunately that has become a rarer show of effort. Now you never know what you're going to get most days. The thing that really disturbed me was that throughout the worst of the pandemic there was only 1 employee that "wore a mask" and that was at his chin. The woman that is usually at the register couldn't be bothered to even pretend to wear a mask even though the bulk of her job is interacting with customers in close proximity. The people preparing my food- after I arrived/quoted ready time- also did not feel it was necessary to wear a mask or gloves. I had to request they put gloves on before making my food and got a serious attitude. Smh. These are Food prep 101 basics regardless of a pandemic. I want to support local business, but the staff here make it hard to do that. :( read more

This is my go-to for subs - the bread is fresh and fluffy no matter what time of day I order and the subs are packed! My absolute favorite is their #6 Pepperoni, Provolone, Prosciuttini, Salami - I believe this is their Italian sub. They have a massive selection of chips, sodas, and other accompaniments and the ambiance really gives you that classic deli nostalgia. The food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. So far everyone I've encountered has been friendly and my experiences have been positive - we order from here weekly and whenever I call to place an order, the turnaround is quick and my orders have been perfect! read more

Meh. That word perfectly sums up the quality, service and cleanliness. Prices have gone way up over the years, and quality and service have gone way down. At this point, I have only been coming here on Tuesday evenings - maybe once every couple of months - for the $7 pizza special. While it's a really good price, the quality and service simply isn't even worth it for $7. Yesterday's pizza was barely decent. I'll pay full price and stick with the better pizza places around here from now on. I am surprised, with all the new (and better) sandwich places opening in Madison, that this place is even still here. read more

This is the only deli in the area that you need to know about. The food is great and the people are even more amazing. My father, who'd been a regular for decades, passed away yesterday. Upon learning of his passing Ralph, the owner of Main Street Submarines whom dad was very fond of, personally delivered a try of ziti, a tray of meatballs, and 3 loaves of bread to my moms house. He didn't ask mom for anything. It was an incredible act of kindness and the food was delicious. Pizza, sandwiches, pasta, catering; my family has had it all from Main Street Submarines over the last 30 years (at least!). It's all awesome. Go there. Now. And try the new corned beef sloppy joe, it's delicious. read more

I ordered a cheesesteak with onion and mushrooms for pickup. When I arrived at the store (which was empty) they told me that they didn't have the order and that it would be 20 minutes. 20 minutes and $9.50 later, I received a cheesesteak with two slices of "beef", no mushrooms or onions, and an attitude from the staff. They have plenty of daily specials and at lunchtime expect it to be crowded with customers who have been coming here for over a decade. There is plenty of parking and seating, inside and out. When I showed up, she had her mask half down and kept adjusting it while taking money from a customer then turned around and started handling sandwiches. Main Street Subs is probably one of the most tried and true Madison institutions around. BIG tasty subs piled high and served up in a truck stop like environment. There are some tables around and a decent (though small) outdoor seating section. Service is quick, to the point, and no nonsense or small talk. Everything clicks together nicely. Oh and they sell those MASH sodas (pomegranate or grapefruit). Try a half #6 with extra vinegar, my go to lunch. read more

Main Street subs is a great sandwich shop. I ordered over 25 feet of supersize heroes to serve 100 men on my project. They did an amazing job making the sandwiches, and delivering them to the site at the time they were required. Ralph the owner is a great guy and he follows up to make sure that everything was as expected. Highly recommend this place for a great sub. The bread and fine shredded lettuce is amazing! read more

This shop is an unusual mix of sandwich shop, pizza place, and convenience store.. with sidewalk seating of a sort in addition to indoor. Recommended to me by two locals of long-standing. My range of the menu here is limited entirely to the #6, their version of the Italian submarine that is a staple of any such deli. Their version is fresh and tasty with enough seasoning to get your attention - not unlike a Jersey Mike's. I like subs, but as with breakfast food, it's nearly all good but you CAN most definitely go wrong (and someone who will serve you a bad breakfast would probably just as soon cut you with a knife). Ordered a whole sub and some wings little less than a half hour ago. The wings according to their menu online claim to be "jumbo wings", which is wrong. I've just seen the worlds smallest drumsticks! Without question the best sub place in the area.I usually get Cappacola, ham and prosciutto and a turkey .One of the things I like about the place is, if you get oil and vinegar , they don't drench the bread .That is a common and irritating sub shop mistake.Moisture is nice , soggy bread is not. I had an order catered this past weekend to Drew University that constituted two 3 foot chicken parmigiana sandwiches, and Main Street Submarines was so accommodating and the sandwiches were so good. I had to change the delivery time, as the tournament ended earlier than anyone had anticipated and Main Street obliged and delivered the sandwiches at the earlier time. Furthermore, they cut up the sandwich in a way that made it easier for the visiting team to eat on the bus ride back to their college. Great place! read more

The people behind the counter are all pretty nice but the food is about average.. Im not a fan of the bread, tastes like cheap, soft bread.. and that will ruin the sandwich for me, i like my bread to have a little character or crunch to it.. I got the famous sanguich. Basically and Italian with proscutini it was good and they didn't give me a pound of lettuce like most places. I forgot to get Mayo, but the sun was plenty wet. I wish I could have got it toasted because part of the sub was a little soggy. The mozzarella sticks were really good. read more

Always wanted to try this place, curiosity is over and I will never return. Girl behind the counter proceeded to make my sandwich, and tend to other customers in between (exchanging cash and touching the register). Not once did she wash her hands after touching the money, and she certainly did not put on gloves. Just manhandled my deli meat with her piglet hands, without even a second thought. Type of person you can assume has other bad hygiene habits. Disgusting! Sandwich shop and other great places are just a few blocks away. Don't waste your time, or risk getting ill. I don't often write reviews however I just had the most ridiculous experience at Main Street Subs and once again have confirmed why I avoid this place at all costs! How does one order two subs and both subs are made incorrectly? It happens but when you send the sandwiches back and the guy still gets both subs wrong I really start to wonder if this establishment cares about the customer? I always walk by here on my way to work and always wanted to try here. I am not happy first of all mistaking my order I ask for steak and egg sandwich. They gave me potatoe and eggs. I took what they gave me because I was on my way to work. The counter guy seem pushy what I want to order felt like I was being treat like I was bother to him which was kinda of turn off. Place seem clean. Staff doesn't seem to be into customer service. Food was ok. Something I could of fix up at home even though I got the wrong order. Now I experience being at this place and this would be last experience. My suggestion go somewhere where you feel welcome and food that will wow you. There are plenty of breakfast place in Madison instead of this place. read more

I've been to this place many, many times and am kind of surprised I've never written a review. I'd put this place right in between 3 and 4 stars, but I guess I'm in a round down type of mood. It's a very big deli located right on Main Street in Madison (hence the name, I know). Sandwiches here are very good, they have a nice chip and drink selection and also sell pizza. The sandwiches are pretty big, have a decent amount of meat and are nicely constructed. My only minor complaint is the bread to meat ratio. I'd like to see a bit more meat, but they are pretty good sandwiches and load the toppings on which is nice. Then the surprise...I would have never pegged this place for good pizza. However, the pizza here is very good. The sausage was awesome. This was good pizza, in general, not just for a deli. Give it a shot - can't imagine you'd be disappointed with it. read more
