I requested the eggs Benedict without the bacon and to add spinach. Out was not on the menu but they customized it anyways and came out as ordered. Their home fries are grilled to perfection, just the right amount of crisp on the top without drying out the potatoes. The server was kind, but could've done a better job. I had asked for some sauce and completely forgot to bring it. We went early on a weekday and it was not crowded or loud. We frequent a number of diners in the area and Nautilus pales in comparison. This is the first time we have eaten here in about 8 years - and we won't be returning. Overpriced compared to other diners in the area (Prestige, Millburn, Park Wood, etc) but the portions are smaller and unappealing. My husband ordered a Virginia ham sandwich - they did not ask him for his bread selection and it came on white toast, with no condiments (and didn't ask if he wanted any). Puny sandwich and they charge extra for cheese. I got a grilled cheese which was ok but nothing special. Server was not attentive. Never brought the bill. I used to come here as a kid, and now returning as an adult I am SOOOO disappointed, The staff was lovely but the food was crap. My minestrone soup was served with massive weird elbow noodles, and my blt was served without mayo (cause many people dont want mayo)- and the bacon was mushy. Even the server said she thought it was weird. (A cup of minestrone was served in a bowl.... and why no mayo on the blt). Shining example of why NJ diners are the best. The service here is really why this place gets 5 stars. We came on Father's Day and were seated really fast. We came looking for dessert and decided on a Belgian waffle with all the fixings. But our waitress sold us on their peanut butter pie too. We ended up getting both, which came out really quickly. I went here with my friends the other day after a day of skiing. We decided to come here instead of other nearby diners due to the better quality food. The reason I am giving the place 3 stars is because the food I received was underwhelming at best. My friend's food appeared good and they enjoyed it. Me on the other hand I got a pepperoni flatbread which was definitely below par. The flatbread came covered in pepperoni, tasted odd, and I believe it was undercooked since it was soggy and limp when I tried to pick it up. Despite this, the fries were good. I also have to say the service was amazing with our waitress talking and being very friendly to us. She was quick, funny, and made sure our experience was excellent. Overall the experience was below par in terms of food, but the service was very good. Its a hit or miss with the foods at diners. I may have gotten the wrong thing here, but I will be back to get something different and hopefully it will be better. read more

On Sunday October 20th. I went to the Nautilus Diner, Madison NJ, for brunch with 3 family members. As I usually do when I go out to eat at 11:00 AM I ordered the Nova Lox Omlet. Here is what happened. The server took my order for the Omlet breakfast which was a rather expensive $22.00, however considering it was Lox that was ok with me. Now to describe the meal, first the server brought no cream with the coffee, I had to ask. 2. My favorite sweetener "Equal" was not available. 3. Was the omlet really an omlet, No it was a small flat piece perhaps 6 inches long, which I assumed were eggs along with a similar but larger flat piece of potatoes. Toast was brought later after we asked for it. If there was lox in the whatever was served to me I barley found it. In my 84 years I have NEVER had a breakfast meal served to me that was so awful. My breakfast favorite is pancakes and dinner fave is the hot open turkey sandwich. This Diner is just ok with ok food. The only thing good here is the service, nice and friendly. As far as the food goes the chicken sandwich featured chicken that was as tough as shoe leather served on a 4 day old roll. The burger, also served on a stale roll had a weird smell to it like the grill hasn't been cleaned in a while. French fries were decent but not worth a return trip here. Conveniently located in central Madison on main street, this diner has it's own small parking lot. Arriving at 1pm on Saturday, the place was packed. After 10 minute wait, we were lucky to get a booth!!! Yay. Standard diner fare, I tried their famous Greek salad. It was good with ample feta, but could have used a few more kalamata olives and tomatoes. There were no onions, but I actually prefer that. My friend got their chicken pesto panini which was huge and served with fries. She's a regular and loves that sandwich. She only ate 1/3 and definitely had enough for another meal or so. Used to come to this Diner a couple years ago. They had the best matzoh ball soup. Came in at 12 PM on Friday. It was already getting crowded. We were greeted immediately and escorted to a booth. The server came over with water, menus and a big smile :-). I must happily say, the water glasses were not overloaded with ice. We ordered Flounder and a Grecian style flatbread. It was only a very short wait for the food. Maybe like 8 minutes? The flounder was broiled nicely and flakey. This entrée came with mashed potatoes and string beans. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. The string beans were steamed. They had a nice crisp texture to them. The Grecian style flatbread had provolone,onions artichokes, spinach and feta cheese. All the ingredients were super fresh, delicious and most of all healthy! (Bottom line -you get your veggies!!!) We were not rushed at all throughout our meal. The food was plentiful. We did get doggy bags. The two entrées came to a total of $32.00. In my opinion, a good deal for two entrées. The restaurant is very clean. The place has plenty of seating. There is a handicap access ramp to the restaurant. Parking availability is on the street or in their private lot. The restaurant can be easily seen when driving on Main St.in Madison. Definitely will return to Nautilus Diner when I'm up in that "neck of the woods!". read more
