Sandwich menu (Dec 2022)
Gianna S.

Conveniently located downtown and near the train station, Zappia's is a great spot to stop and grab a sandwich. The bread for their subs was probably the best part about the food, it was delicious. Their menu seems large, but also somewhat limited in that there are only about 6 types of subs to choose from and nearly all involved multiple types of meat versus a simple ingredient list. (The menu online is larger than what was posted in the deli.) It was not clear if you could get the panini ingredients on a sub sandwich, for example. They were very short staffed on a weekend lunch hour - there were two men at the prep counter and one woman who was manning the register, taking orders, answering phones, and making sandwiches - and there was a line backed up waiting so it wasn't the right time to ask about menu swaps. It is also a full-service deli to get sliced meats and cheeses. The messy prep counter and the way multiple orders were being made at once by the same individuals means this deli is definitely NOT allergen or cross-contamination friendly. The prices initially seem a little high, but the sandwiches are larger than most delis or chains like Subway, the "half" size is comparable to a full sandwich elsewhere.

Sloppy joe platter (back left), wraps (front), veggie sandwiches (back right)

**this review is just for their catering business ** We placed a large catering order with Zappia's just a few days in advance of when we'd need it and had some dietary restrictions that they had no problem accommodating. We got: 1. A large sloppy joe platter and requested they make the sandwiches without any dairy (they otherwise come with cheese) 2. A large tray of wraps - they let us customize which wraps which picked v giving us a random assortment 3. A medium sandwich tray of just veggie sandwiches They had a surprising number of vegetarian sandwich options, and all three platters were a huge hit with our guests. Zappia's also delivered on time and for free, which was a really nice surprise too. The prices overall were incredibly reasonable and hundreds of dollars cheaper than another place we called first. We will happily cater from Zappia's again.

a slice of pizza on a paper plate

Loved the open seating. Perfect for dining semi-al fresco for those that like outside but not the sun. Prices decent. Pizza needed more sauce and the cheese had no real flavor but the crust was EXCELLENT! Light, airy, crisp... baked PERFECTLY!

A pretty large space with long deli counter, eight tables and a communal counter space.

OMG the chicken cordon bleu panini. I came here after reading rave reviews about this sandwich, and it truly delivered. Go eat one now. This is a deli so don't expect fancy dining. There are a few tables toward the front, and a long butcher's block style community table toward the back. Sandwiches, paninis and wraps are all made to order and range from standard classics to more adventurous deluxe options. Service is prompt and reviewers are right when they say don't dawdle in line. Only step up to the counter when you're ready to order or you may be run over by the commuter crowd racing to grab lunch before their train. Location is another upside to this gem. Right in downtown Summit (which I recently discovered is a great shop-around, ladies day out type town) and right across from the train station and street parking. Seriously though, go get that sandwich ASAP.

Darn good sandwiches, tasty and not too expensive. Their hot subs rock. They open at 7 AM, which can be convenient.

They are closed unfortunately, probably due to all the garbage shutdowns. Now in their location is Pita Grill & Creperie!

Even so, being in the area, seeking a high protein meal, I stop in to the Millburn Deli. The establishment seems set for efficiency from the door, even with a quick seemingly (random assortment) ready-to-go refrigerator, for a quick passerby perhaps, like I become when the order I seek to buy is already in the fridge area (at the register). The establishment offers a variety of seating options. This is my first time eating a cold Sloppy Joe sandwich though not my first time eating a cold Roast Beef sandwich. The cole slaw is somewhat tasty, though the mayonnaise-y-ness is not preferable, to me, especially considering sweeter bits are present without the mayonnaise-y-ness. The cheese (Provolone-ish) adds a consistent pleasant flavor in the current mix of cold sloppiness. I prefer Roast Beef with lettuce, tomatoes, purplish-skin onions, Swiss Cheese, horse radish, pepper, oil, vinegar, and on firm wheat bread/a good firm exterior though softer chewy interior wheat-like roll. The establishment accepts different forms of payment.

The Big Dudes ‍‍platter consisted of a hot #pastrami sandwich, a stuffed pastrami knish, Rueben eggrolls, potato chips and assorted pickles. On Sunday 4/15/2026 I placed an online order via their own site at 3pm for a pickup time at 4:30 (for reference they close at 7pm) my card was charged over $50. I arrived at 4:22 to discover a poorly handwritten and placed sign on the door under the store hours (making it hard to read) saying they are closing at 4pm. I received a phone call that didn't display the business name and when you cross reference it doesn't show any association with the business from Chatham NJ (they are located in New Providence). They left no message so giving zero indication it was even from them, (technically I still didn't know if it was I'm just being charitable) and to make matters worse the call was made after the business was already closed for that day making it useless to me. I don't care for excuses they'll render under this comment if they ever see this to attempt to make themselves look better, I have all the proof and evidence like I said either theft of services maliciously or through incompetence, nevertheless stay away from them. I will never patronize them again and strongly urge anyone coming across this to do the same.
