Went here for happy hour/dinner with my family and a friend's family. It was my second time dining here. My first time was ok but too crowded on a weekend. This time, the food was ok (relatively mediocre), but i cannot return because we found a mouse under the kids' seats after finishing dinner. The kids were playing under the table and I told them to get up but they said there was a mouse. We thought they were joking or making it up bc they're young and tend to play make believe but then after my daughter confirmed she wasn't making it up, I looked under with my phone flashlight. Lo and behold, a little mouse chomping away at a trap. Which means they know about the problem. I feel sick to my stomach because you just don't know if the mice are crawling around on the tables at night, on the dishes, in the kitchen, etc. Sorry to say, but I won't be returning. read more

Came here for a birthday lunch with my husband, the ambiance is beautiful especially this time of year. My old phone was taking blurry pics from far away so I wasn't able to capture it, but think very cozy, fireplace with candles glowing from within, and little alcoves in the wall for candle clusters. It was perfectly elevated while still being casual and approachable. When we came there was a Mac and cheese special with pulled bbq pork on top. I knew we had to get that because it is right up my husbands alley. It did not disappoint, my husband was tempted to order some to take home! The pasta was super creamy and cheesy, mixed with the roasted pulled smoky bbq pork on top, it was the ultimate comfort food for the cold rainy day we were having. For my meal I got the Grilled Cheese which is more of an elevated "grown up" grilled cheese. It had cheese, thin apple slices, fig jam and bacon. The flavors were great, I only wish there was a little more cheese or a little less jam to balance the sweet and savory a little more, because for me it was a touch too sweet. The sourdough it was made with was delicious and fresh, I also appreciate that they don't seem to soak their grilled cheese in oil like a lot of places do (butter or nothing, please!!) My husband ordered the burger which he really enjoyed but nothing was going to top the pulled pork Mac and cheese for him. They should consider adding it to the regular menu! He originally wanted the duck sandwich but it was unavailable on this day. All in all it was a cozy afternoon together. Wow! Stopped in for a quick lunch and to watch Football. This place is REALLY good! Service was amazing! We had one of the managers (Kate) serving us due to the crowd and she was superb! Ok, now to the food: We ordered Bibb Salad - great!!!, the bbq wings (ask them to make them bbq style vs Peruvian) - awesome wing, but the bbq sauce was all gas - a 10 - Loved it! They are also known for their burger, which was solid, Steak Sandwich was also good, but the burger was def the better choice! Then we wrapped up worh the dessert: ordered Cheesecake which was beautiful and delicious. The homemade crust was an absolute 10!!! Then they let us sample their apple pie, which is currently not a menu item but they're testing it out. Also good! And finally, the s'mores bananas split! A unique spin on the traditional banana split. The flambéd bananas were crazy good. Great dish. So, everything was on point and extremely tasty!!! My only criticism was the bar could've been a tad quicker with the drink refills but once requested, they refreshed our drinks. I met up with a friend at Publick House for dinner, and it was my first time there. I can honestly say this is my favorite restaurant/pub in a long time! My friend made reservations, which was a good idea since the place is small, lively, and loud--but also very clean, with a friendly staff. Our waiter did disappear for a bit while we were waiting to order, but honestly, the food more than made up for it. For appetizers, we had the lamb meatballs and the street corn dip. Both were amazing! I ordered the corn dip even though my friend was hesitant at first--she ended up loving it so much she didn't want to share. For entrées, I had the chicken Milanese: a perfectly cooked fried cutlet topped with fresh arugula salad, balsamic drizzle, and mozzarella. Absolutely delicious--I wanted more! My friend ordered the Peruvian half chicken, served with traditional sauce and Peruvian fried rice, and it was just as impressive. I can't say enough good things about the food here. My family has lived in Mountainside for more than 40 years, and after hearing positive feedback from friends, we recently started returning to this establishment. To be fair, the food has been quite decent on the several occasions we've visited, and the waitstaff has consistently provided good service. Unfortunately, our experience with the hostess has been the complete opposite. Today, while stopping in for a couple of burgers, we were greeted by what appeared to be an almost empty restaurant. This was the second time we've encountered rude and unwelcoming behavior from the hostess. After giving the place multiple chances, that experience was enough for us to decide that we will not be returning. It's disappointing because the kitchen and serving staff have done a good job, but first impressions matter, and the hostess's attitude has overshadowed the otherwise positive aspects of the restaurant. read more

We went here for Valentines Day; we knew the appetizers we wanted to have but the waiter would not put in the order until we knew everything we planned on eating for the night. The "chef" does not allow guests to order appetizers without ordering entrees. So, we rushed to pick something since we were hungry. On recommendation of the waiter, we had lobster risotto, ZERO flavor and hardly any flavor. We had martinis - both were watered down. Such a great place! Elevated bar food at its best. Reservations are strongly recommended and I can see why. Upon our arrival on Saturday night this place was hopping! Our table wasn't quite ready so we enjoyed a drink by the bar. Expertly crafted cocktails that are as beautiful as they are tasty. We each sampled a little something from the menu and everything was a hit. My Chicken Mole was surprisingly delicious. I rarely order chicken, but the description on the menu really had me intrigued. My favorite item of the night was the house-made lemon cake dessert. I love all things lemon and this did not disappoint. I wanted to get an extra order to-go! Our server was so enthusiastic and fun. I've been coming here for a few years now, and I can't help but feel like the place is progressively going down hill. Don't get me wrong, it's still very decent and a great higher-end gastropub option in the area, but it just feels like over the years prices have gone up significantly while portion sizes and quality have gone down. For example, we just went tonight and everything was really way too salty. My husband, who never sends anything back, sent his beer back because it was spoiled. The pasta with boar ragu should not be a $30 dish. The portion size is very small and lacking meat sauce. One thing they've consistently done well is their seafood. Most places just say it's not spicy, but he added that if I don't tolerate spice well to not order it, so I stuck to ordering the Waldorf salad. It was fresh and the dressing was light and complemented the flavor of the greens. It would make a good appetizer, but it was not very filling as a main dish on its own. Yes you can add protein, but there were no vegan options. The shrimp and grits had nice large shrimp, well cooked with lots of andouille sausage. My husband said the burger met the requirements of a "top-shelf" burger. Good blend of meat with ample cheese and caramelized onions. We tried the chocolate & walnut torte which was alittle dense and didn't chew well. The food was good; my friend and I told the waitress we were splitting the fish and chips and they separated the full plate into two to make it easy to eat. We also ordered the octopus. The piece was as big as my ring finger. Not bad but another 20$. I had two martinis so i didn't send the burger back. Not worth the hassle.
