When entered this cozy neighborhood place on a frigid Sunday afternoon. Greeted warmly by the bartender and took seats at the bar. The place is small with a bar that seats a dozen or so people and some tables against the wall. Also another small dining room that looks like it was added on to the building at some point. I ordered a blue moon from approx two dozen tap choices and wifey ordered a red sangria that she liked. We ordered nachos grande and "street corn smashburger tacos" which were hefty and delicious! Most patrons at the bar seemed to be regulars but everyone was friendly and engaging. The bartender was efficient and very friendly, she made an excellent old fashion for me! Went to Suspenders on a Tuesday for a "guess the song" trivia night, super cool idea and a great way to get people into the restaurant on lower traffic days, however I think this trivia took way too long, I personally felt bad taking up a table for the entire duration of the game and this included our group ordering entrees, a couple beers, and more food items after our initial meal. This could be a personal thing, but would recommended speeding this game up. The food was decent! I ordered the sausage rigatoni, it was good and tasty however did not leave me full and I felt the need to order more food after. I got a side of fries after the initial meal and it was a good amount, fries were also tasty just needed to add my own salt. I also ordered a Diet Coke and it did not taste good, it tasted very syrupy? I'm not sure if it was actually Diet Coke because on the menu I believe it says Diet Cola so this could 100% be on me for not seeing that but I would have liked to be notified if it wasn't actually Diet Coke. The service was very good and I won't complain too much since our group took up a table for a decent amount of time, however I never got a refill so not sure if they have free refills or if our server just did not notice. Overall, this is a decent place, it's nothing spectacular but is definitely a place where everyone has something to eat that is enjoyable and a fun environment. So we decided to go to this place for dinner as it was recommended by a friend. The place itself and the atmosphere were great, the service was also very friendly and pleasant. We didn't have a good experience with our meals, the fish we ordered was definitely rotten (we returned it and ordered a burger which was ok), they did end up removing it from our bill, but nonetheless it should have never left the kitchen. The cheesesteak was ok, but not a lot of meat. The wings were definitely not the best we've had either. I wanted and expected the food to be excellent here, but it was a disappointment. I lived around the corner from this neighborhood bar and grill, but surprisingly hadn't really come here all that often growing up or even in my early adulthood. Came here for an earlyish dinner and did not disappoint. Host came over immediately and we were seated quickly. Waiter was pleasant, but waters did not immediately come out, which was a little weird that we had to specifically ask for them despite us also ordering additional drinks, but no matter he was kind, efficient and was very friendly. The restaurant is clean, designed well, and does give a nice neighborhood feel to it. Food: Maple bacon burger: Solid burger, a little on the sweet side because of the maple bacon, but it ate well. Did not fall apart and was cooked to perfection and was nice and juicy. The fries were a little lump and soggy, but the flavor was really delicious. BLTA: was a really good sandwich, well toasted bread and all the ingredients worked well. Every bite had each of the ingredients so you were always getting the full sandwich experience. Drinks: Cold brew martini: solid take on an espresso martini, not too sweet, really delicious way to kick off the night. Golden fashioned: a sweeter take on the classic old fashioned. We moved back to NJ to be closer to family and ended up Nextdoor to this place. We didn't realize how PACKED this place gets. We've gotten lucky with the last parking spot in the lot twice for dinner. Their portion sizes are generous and their food is flavorful. We've tried mostly their sandwiches and burgers and always have leftovers. But I legitimately think about their fried cheesecake eggrolls almost weekly. I was stood-up by someone who I was finally getting the chance to meet a few days ago. I turned my attention to focusing on the design of the restaurant and its cultivated setting helped take the edge off of my anger and disappointment, as it evoked feelings of comfort and class. I resigned myself to patiently wait for this person for 10 minutes, then for 30, until I decided that, since I was there, I may as well treat myself to something so that I couldn't feel as though my whole trip there was a waste of time. My waiter came over and gave his sincerest apologies that I had been stood up which placated my frustration, and I was incredibly grateful. I ordered a chocolate lava cake to help further lift my spirits as I was still rather upset, and it did not disappoint! After a mini photo session with it, I indulged in it, and it was warm, soft, and absolutely smothered in chocolate sauce. It was so delicious. When I asked for my check, my waiter already had it in his apron, to my surprise, and when I opened it, a lovely handwritten note was there instead of a bill. My waiter already had taken care of my dessert, which turned all remaining negative emotions I had, into such a profound sense of gratitude that all I could do was wave to him, mouth "thank you", and hurriedly get out before my tears started rolling down my face. I don't know my waiter's name; in my pain, I neglected to ask. But, thank you, so much. Your small act of kindness was monumental to me. You taught me that even you, a stranger, can see my worth better than some of the people I'm already connected to. I hope you know your heart rivals the strength and elegance of your appearance. The wrap was perfectly portioned and very savory with the fries as the side. They also have a full bar and a specials menu for food and drinks. For drinks, I got the pomegranate mule. Outstanding! Took my daughter here after moving into Kean University. Still in COVID-19 outside lock down. Suspenders was set up for outside dining in their parking lot. It was very nicely done. The restaurant is in a very nice quiet suburban neighborhood. The menu is very nice. I had Cajun Shrimp Tacos. My daughter and wife had Chipotle Skirt steak with a bake potato and salads. Great servers! Friendly. Lovely "room!" However, I take exception to french fries and onion rings served luke warm. Obviously reheated -- ick! It made the gloppy, mayonnaise-y, garlic parm sauce on the fries just sit on top. While I realize the kitchen was closing in about half an hour, I also know that I work very hard for my money / am paying top dollar for food and drink. Also feel like I got taken on the lousy Konig Ludwig draft beer pour. No flavor AND my glass was WAY under filled. Come ON! Just be more careful. I generally do not complain, but the older I get, I realize that if one doesn't provide any feedback, there can be no improvement. Great spot for lunch or happy hour. I recently went here with a few coworkers for lunch because we discovered they had outside seating the it was a beautiful day. It was pretty slow, but we were greeted with a smile and seated right away. Our waitress was awesome, she was on point with her recommendations and service. I ordered the Smashburger which they are very proud of and should be, it was delicious! Juicy, flavorful, and filling. The onion rings won be over, they were beer battered and fried to perfection. We started with the garlic parm fries. They were pretty tasty. Not too greasy. It was a nice app for 3 people. I decided on the burger of the month. Since it was March it was a St Paddy's theme. It was a bit small, it's a 6oz burger with cabbage and an aioli. It wasn't bad, just kinda tiny, they do the smashed burger thing here. Awesome little restaurant and pub in Union! Suspenders atmosphere is super lively and there is always a range of ages (younger adults to older adults). I am pretty picky when it comes to burgers (meat) so I was reluctant to order the Suspenders Smash Burger but it did not disappoint at all. This was probably the best burger I had. The Buffalo Wings were also super delicious. Jamie the bartender was also super friendly and made my friend and I the best drinks. The menu itself has just about anything you want, from flatbread pizzas, to wings, to dessert. The food itself is good. I got a French onion soup and fish and chips. Others my party got burgers and sandwiches. All of the details were correct, and our waitresses were quick and friendly. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating- the outdoor seating is primarily wooden (with wooden benches, wooden tables) and is actually quite cozy... although the view is of the parking lot. The indoor seating is fine, but dark... and on weekends during football season (because of their abundance of TV's, it can get pretty rowdy, and you can't really hear conversations amongst yourselves, however that is more because of the guests and not the restaurant's fault. read more

I have been here twice and I truly have no complaints. The vibe this bar gives me is a comfortable one. This is a great place to meet up with someone to get some drinks and finger food. My professor took my class and I here to get a couple apps and they were all very GOOD. I am not a fan of potato skins because of past experiences. They are usually very greasy BUT the skins here are amazing! Way to go Suspenders! The wings are delicious and so are the nachos. Heads up, the nachos comes with salsa on them. If I were to order this again, I would prefer for the salsa to be on the side. Salsa with a mixture of cheese just isn't my thing. Other then that, this place is great!
