I have been coming to Sun Tavern since 2008 when I worked in Cranford NJ. The prices have always…read morebeen fair even with inflation. The servers, table seating are hit or miss like everywhere else. But the bar service has always been top notch. Over the years Nick has been my bartender/server. He is prompt and very knowledgeable, and personable. Tonight we chatted and I found out he worked at the Fanwood location. I recall being in my early 20s when it closed down. Really enjoy the ambience of the Sun Tavern. My best friend (living in New Brunswick) and myself (few towns over) often kick our selves forgetting about our favorite hidden gem at the Tavern, when we end up elsewhere displeased or broke (lol) . The Outdoor patio seating is our fave during warm weather but even on weekday nights the bar is always a comfortable option for us or when I go alone. I'm 35 and an old soul but I personally appreciate the music style but u can also pay to play your own songs too. The bar pies are a great size and absolutely delicious. I'm a picky eater but the cheese steak, curly fries and Taylor ham sandwich are my favorites. Great selection of Tab and drinks as well! Well worth the drive for even a quick drink!

This place seems to always be packed and im glad I came early. You can tell that this place has its…read moreregular customers and they have a full bar which is great. Ill say that at first I didn't care for the kids that work here just walking around aimlessly but I can see that they are hard at work making sure everything is clean and drunks are full and what not. Ok now the food. When my calamari came out I thought to myself oh no. So thick you'd think they were tough and rubbery but im happy to say they were melt in your mouth tender. I could not believe it. My wife mentioned that her french onion soup was a bit tangy but ok. The old world pie.....very garlicy without being overwhelming and just enough dabs of sauce. Imagine a garlicy margherita pizza. So good and light. I do not recommend the spinach dip. Way too much cream cheese and so blah.

My friend was telling me how she grew up next to White Rose in Highland Park, reminiscing about the…read moredays of old. And then I was going to see her the very next day (today). So we're out, driving north from Edison, and I'm following her directions. She told me to turn left and I said "Oh, but I can turn right on red and then just left on Walnut." And as I got ready to turn left on Walnut, there was the sign on the corner. White Rose. So I may have turned left just a little more lazily and eased into the parking lot instead of the street. What a nice surprise for her! And with that, we both were introduced to the Roselle location, instead of the Highland Park location we each knew. Pro: I love the classic NJ diner atmosphere, with all the seating on stools or two-fer tables in one unified area. Pro: You have the service area right up front, and you can see the food being prepared. Pro: Great value food, made fresh. My Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a bagel had a solid amount of meat, perfect balance of ingredients, everything lightly toasted or fried just right. My friend's California burger (just means a burger with all the regular toppings like lettuce, tomato, onion) was much bigger than I expected, though they also have small burgers if that's your vibe. I enjoyed her fries, which is not something I always say. Again, cooked perfectly. Con: Or is it a pro: Off the beaten path, not right downtown, so a little harder to find. But that means it's not super busy and you can find a seat. Verdict: Find yourself a seat and try it out.

What a nostalgic moment. Ordered the burger special which was great back in the day. The burgers still have that old greasy diner flare. Best after a night of hanging with friends. Great service. The menu has expanded from cheese sticks, fries and burgers, to gyros, souvlakis, chicken parm, steak sandwiches and more. Small place with a big menu!
