Honestly, I thought this was a truck spot when I first pulled up. It is the definition of a dive bar with the old school bar top and and taps that look like they are from a long time ago. I tried the burger and it was not good. The bread was stale and the burger had no flavor. It looked like a burger you would get at a school lunch. Also tried the thin crust pizza with sausage. It was not very good either and maybe a step above frozen pizza. I Maybe better to come in for a drink. There was a bunch of people in there so it may be a local favorite. For football, food, friends, and fun, Ye Old Rathskeller remains a local favorite! You'll find comfort in the old timey vibe that is probably referenced as "a hole in the wall" one too many times, but in the good way. If you can't decide, go with a burger! The service has room to improve, but that's kinda what you'd expect from the old school attitude of, "we'll get to ya when we get to ya!" The younger crowd needs to practice a bit more patience anyway! I'd pay them a visit! read more

It's nice to grab drinks and sit outside on the patio on a nice day. I recently tried the special chicken cordon bleu sandwich, it was great, I was surprised since it was grilled chicken but was tasty. We walked inside to place our order, but there was a server walking around as well. read more

We always forget to come here and I don't know why. Their burgers and anything we've ever had here are great. The bartender was working the whole place tonight and she was still doing a great job. We both had burgers, one with cheddar and one with blue cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. We were both happy with our $8 plus toppings burger especially since we walked out of The Cranford Hotel where we would have spent $18 on a burger. Sure the ambiance is nicer there but who cares. Solid 4 stars. You're not getting highbrow food here (go to A Toute Heuer down the street for that), but you will get-cheap drinks, atmosphere one level above a dive bar, and my main reason for a visit. That's the lunch special burger. $5, &5.95 with their excellent steak fries. It's a half pound burger, always cooked to your desired doneness.! It's a bit of a townie bar, but in a good way. Great staff too. I often go when I get a hair cut in the area, but my stylist tells me to have lunch AFTET-he can smell the Rathskeller burger and gets hungry! read more

DO NOT believe the reviews (Yelp 4.4*) and articles (best dive bar food in NJ) -- the food and service is terrible! The "1/2 pound" burgers were frozen quarter pounders served gray and cold. The dozen pathetic fries were also cold. We told the waitress about the food, and she said nothing and instead went outside for a smoke and scroll on her phone, never to return. To top it off, at least one person in our party suffered terrible diarrhea all night. Totally unacceptable! read more

Ok so i have to say this. I enjoyed the food. I enjoyed the drinks and the prices were right where they should be. But none of these are the reasons I'm giving this place 5 stars. It gets 5 stars because our very busy waitresses today took my families order and we ordered my 14 month old daughter chicken fingers. When she brought them out she had the kitchen pre slice the tenders for her so they 1. Weren't too hot for her and 2. She could fit them in her mouth without us sitting there cutting them up instead of us enjoying meal. This little personal gesture made our day. So thank you to her. Truly a hole in the wall. I wouldn't say it's a dive bar at all. Very clean and great servers. There is even a nice patio outside to sit if the weather is nice. Indoors can get a little crowded. Overall food is pretty good. I recommend their pizza and Philly cheesesteak. Good selection of draft beers. If your looking for a casual night this is the place to go. Warning- sometimes the food can take a bit. They usually only have one cook. Less crowded for lunch. Friday and Saturday nights can get busy. read more

What a great neighborhood bar and grill. All the food is delicious, the onion rings and rice balls are out of this world.

This is always our "go to" bar for Monday night football. They have some delicious wings and excellent burgers. Their pizzas are also very good. The barmaids are always responsive and there's usually a great crowd in there. Good beer selection as well. Tried iceberg wedge salad- great! read more

Fun hole in the wall bar. Cheap drinks and food, everything is good here and it's a fun spot to hang out in. Lots of seating but wish they never took out the pool table here, that was so much fun with groups! This is a very laid back bar, great for groups going out for drinks.
