I dined here for the first time sometime in the beginning of August. The food was decent. It's a diner. Coffee was good, turkey sausage was good and the Greek omelet was good as well. The home fries were very bland. It seems as if they just chopped them up and sauteed them and that's all. I wasn't impressed with them. Would I return, probably. The waitress was nice and we didn't wait long for our food. One thing, they could be more careful during COVID. More careful in how they handle the utensils and napkins. Oh, and ketchup that is not in a packet would be better. I suggest that if you dine here, bring your own ketchup. read more

careful service with a smile. My meatloaf on a roll was textbook in every way from the sweet flavors of carrot mixed in with just a bit of crumb to savory meat. The gravy is nicely seasoned and soaks into the perfectly fresh, fluffy roll. This is a lovely sandwich, so simple yet so satisfying. Is it the best meatloaf sandwich in NJ? Possibly. Food was good. BUT THE SERVICE WAS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!!! We went there for breakfast and got there at 10:23. At 10:45, I had to get up and find our waitress and ask her to take our order. At 11:15, I had to go inside and ask the owner where our food was. After eating, we had to flag down another waitress and ask for her to find our waitress. 5 mins later she finally came and dropped the check and then she disappeared again. I went inside again and had to ask for our check to be processed. I had to ask for every step of the process, the owner clearly didn't care, and it took 2 hours to have breakfast. Never going here again, anyone can make a breakfast sandwich, but it shouldn't take 2 hours to get breakfast. Had to chase our waitress Down for every step and the owner sides with her horrendous service. Poor management = no customers. read more

I always enjoy eating at this diner. Great location, and awesome food and service every time. However, at my last visit, I noticed they started charging a markup for credit cards. Although I understand why they are offsetting the credit service charges, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to charge extra for credit. I suspect the correct treatment is to include the surcharge on the menu price, and offer a discount for cash. I believe gas stations charging "extra" for credit, are fined. read more

My son loves this diner and pretty much gets the same thing whenever he eats here...a turkey club with no tomato. He's a HUGE fan of their fries as well...they came out well done so that's a plus in my book. Tonight I kept it simple...a grilled ham and Swiss on rye with onion rings. Sandwich was good...but a little small, and I prefer my ham grilled before going onto the sandwich...but I'm spoiled. Onion rings were very good, just a bit oily. Coke slaw is ok, not too wet. Pickle was a new pickle-pretty standard. Very odd that they didn't have chicken soup of any kind tonight...45 years of eating in diners and I don't know that I've ever been to one without chicken soup. The service here was very fast, the place is very clean, bright and well lit. It does get a little loud, but most diners do. Staff here seem to enjoy being here and are very friendly. Nautilus is not the best diner in NJ. There is a place up in Sterling that kicks the ass of every single diner in the diner-state (NJ). But it is perfect for what it is, and for it's singularly quaint location. With reasonable prices, service with the kind of attitude you can only expect in a NJ diner (and yet, you still like the guy and don't want to leave him llnt as a tip), this place is my go-to when in the area. Which is not often these days. I've averaging every 5 years at this point, even though I grew up the next town over. At any rate, it is the God's honest truth that when it comes to diners in NJ, any single one can beat the living daylights out of any diner in any other state that is west of PA, north of NY, south of whatever the hell is south of NJ (who cares, right? If I'm being honest, I'll have to admit there's probably an extra star for nostalgia. As a Drew alumni, I went to the Nautilus Diner a fair amount of times over four years. I never understood the nickname of "the Nauseous". The food is your typical diner food, perhaps too much selection if you don't know what you want but all was well cooked. My most recent visit was for a mini-reunion with a group of friends. Our drinks were never wanting, with frequent refills we were very well hydrated. In the process of playing catch-up, we spent a lot of time at the table after finishing our lunch talking. There was no pressure for us to leave, no sideways glances indicating they were waiting to the clear the table, they gave us all the time we needed. read more

We met up here with my brother and his wife and child with our own small kids in tow. We were seated in the back for space and that was perfect. The food was good, the complimentary pickles and ranch vegies to start were a nice surprise. The owner was gracious, welcoming and kind. All the food arrived timely and hot. My qualm with diners is id rather have half the food for half the price but its NY and the portions are NY size! We were not rushed out and took our time. They say NJ is the land of the Diners. Well I have only been to a couple of them in the state and never have I given one place repeated business. Not until Nautilus. I had the pancake breakfast three times and the last two times went with Potato pancakes and then scrambled egg platter. First the pancakes, these are some of the biggest pancakes you have ever seen. They cover what had to be a 10" plate. Nice and thick and just right with the right amount of butter and syrup you'll lick the plate. I added the side of crispy bacon and that was the topper. Not your typical (thanks for nothing) two strips side, but a jumble of bacon strips served on a small side plate. The bacon is so crispy that if snap it by hand the fragments are likely to put an eye out. FYI for me that's good. Not so much to say about the Potato pancakes or the eggs. These are just ordinary, so I'll skip them in the future. The service is very down home. You won't find a nicer group of people and that friendly service doesn't come at the expense of speed. You can be in and out for breakfast in 30 minutes, just what I need for starting another workday. Nautilus will be a regular stop on my Jersey circuit tour. read more

A no-frills diner that's a timeless favorite among the locals. I've been coming here for years and nothing has changed. I had two eggs, ham, potatoes, and toast for only $7.25! Can't beat that price! A classic breakfast with great service makes me happy. :) They're located right next to the gas station and have parking in the rear. The venue itself is quite big and there's two main rooms. PS. This is your standard, run of the mill diner. I went to the Nautilus Diner for breakfast before a meeting I had at a local company. The menu is not large for breakfast but you can get your fill of eggs, toast and the rest of the standard fare. Food was bland though. I got a couple of eggs and some homefries and toast. It was a lackluster meal. Service was friendly and the restaurant seemed clean. Prices are reasonable (my meal was $7.50). Place has gone downhill. Ate here twice today because power was out at my house. Both times I noticed that prices had spiked and service had fallen. I had to chase my waitress for more napkins and a warm-up on my coffee for breakfast. After she dropped off our food she took off and needed to be "found". I ordered a hamburger deluxe for dinner. Took an inordinately long time to get to me (I suspect it was ready but waitress left it sitting on the pick-up shelf for a while). Then I asked about coleslaw. She said "yeah, it comes with coleslaw and a pickle". She took off like she was headed to get it. So then she's standing at the counter talking to another waitress. I look over "coleslaw and pickle??". She tells the other waitress, "you distracted me". Pickle was seriously miniscule. The fries were the little tiny scraps of fries that are left when the nice, long steak fries are gone and they haven't made a fresh batch. What happened to the Nautilus of my youth??? :( read more

Took a friend here once after he got far too drunk to go anywhere until he sobered up. Parking out front on the street is metered at some hours, but late night it's not an issue, sometimes the lot is full. Food here isn't bad, your typical greasy spoon. Toast was a little charred but buttered up nicely. No hashed browns, though, only the fake homefries... I miss Denny's just because of that. Expensive for a diner, though... (hence the three $ instead of just two $). Aside from that, tried the egg & ham breakfast at the time. Ham was nice, but the eggs were a bit underdone (too rushed even late at night?). Semi-clean, but nothing unusually dirty or clean to remark over. At least they were patient with my drunken friend. read more

The food is always good here... Having said that, the service is a crap shoot. Last night we were there for dinner at almost 8. The place was not busy. We ordered a Ruben and a Greek salad with grilled chicken. When the food showed up there was no chicken in the salad. So, I had to wait to eat my Ruben until my wife's salad came back out. Then the waiter disappeared. I drank my soda, my water and my wife's water before the waiter showed up again. I was just about finished with my meal at this point. When he did come back, he only got me another soda and not my wife... I get that it's not an easy job when it's busy, but... When it's slow there's no excuse for poor service. read more

I currently work near this diner and was disheartened when I witnessed the manager berate and humiliate a worker over being sick and requesting to go home home. The supervisor berated the worker and cursed at her. Decorum prohibits me from mentioning the words he used. I will never eat at an establishment that bullies its workers. read more

I am pissed I ordered breakfast special of 3 eggs and 2 sausages but got no home fries, toast or juice which were included. But when I asked if I could have an extra sausage she told me she would need to charge me for that. I said but I'm not getting over 50 to 60% of your breakfast special . Although the menu consist of traditional jersey diner fair, it is seriously lacking in Taste. The kind staff members are very sweet, but I can't handle the ultra-greasiness of the food here. I went there today and ate the best chili I have ever eaten it was quite exquisite. I had an altercation with my waiter and the billing but I must say he handled the whole situation with the upmost respect and dignity. The chicken fingers had some soggy spots (I prefer every ounce to be fried to a pulp), but the cheese and gravy fries are awesomely good and bad for you. And the waitress gave me as many condiments as I could possibly desire, since I am unfortunately a condiment whore. Ohh, I didn't try the burger, but they put cheese on both sides of the patty. Worst diner I've ever been to. Food was bad, the bun on my burger was dry and stale. I had hardly any fries on my plate. We had to remind the waitress of what our food was supposed to come with because half of it didn't come out. Our waitress was RUDE and on COCAINE. A friend of mine lives very close to the Nautilus. When I visit I expect to go here within 24 hours of arriving and at least once in a weekend visit. Needles to say this is our place, we love it. This review pertains only to breakfast. I haven't lived in NJ long enough to seek out a diner for dinner, and I go to a sub shop for casual lunch. If I were seeking a diner for lunch/dinner, I can see where this might not be the pick. Sure. But for breakfast, aye. Get two eggs over easy, hash browns, sausage, toast coffee and a small juice for $7.95 (not way out of whack I think..). Cut the eggs up over the hash browns. Dice up one of the sausages and stir in. Give it a few belts of Tabasco. Bliss. Toast to mop up - extra points will be awarded for slicing the other sausage and holding that between two toasts as you mop. Look, the plate's the size of a manhole cover and food hangs off the side, and it hits the table in about 5 minutes after you order, and it tastes good - we've had waffles, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes - all the basics are done in a good and plenty way. [Breakfast isn't any harder than that - frankly, making bad breakfast food requires malice of forethought. Someone who'd serve you a bad breakfast would probably just as soon cut you with a knife.] read more
