I LOVE these bagels (see previous review). And last weekend I finally found superb Norwegian lox at Oregon Lox Co., so I stopped in to buy some bagels for my lox. And - since I'd been fasting for a blood test since 6am - I couldn't wait, I ordered the lox sandwich. So glad! Turns out, their lox is from Oregon Lox Co. too (Though it's not the even-better Norwegian lox). With all the trimmings, my bagel was just right - capers, thin sliced onions and tomato. Meant to eat just half, instead I devoured the whole thing. It took me back to Brooklyn... BTW, my previous comment on ambiance was too stingy. I overlooked a spacious terrace with shade trees, and there's a library of books for customers. Really nice place, glad a friend brought me here, I'd never find this little gem on my own. The staff was rude and looked like they hated their job. we ordered two super easy bagels with cream cheese...they didn't only get one but both completely wrong. The cream cheese was seriously mayo on a bagel. I honestly don't know how they have good reviews. As regular customers, we quit going here well over a year ago because of an uncaring new owner, and even more uncaring and under-trained staff. We were short on time and nearby and decided to give this place one more try. The bagels are not as sweet or savory, they are smaller, and the cream cheese portion is visibly smaller. We ordered our bagels to eat there and as usual, they popped up on the counter in little to-go bags. I told the server I had ordered to eat in and wanted baskets. She glared at me, grabbed them off the counter, slapped them into baskets, smacked them back on the counter for me, and glared at me again, just for good measure. So, once burned, shame on them. THEY GAVE US FOOD TOUCHED BY SOME RANDOM STRANGER! Disgusting. They need to go back to food handling school! When we went in it was busy, this place has a disorganized system for handing out orders. We waited forever and my husband was struggling up to the counter to check on our order. From our table across the room I watched as a dude grabbed what I thought was our order, take it to his table. He and his companion proceeded to open the boxes and paw through the bagels with their grubby hands, looking at what was in the bagels and realizing that it was not their order. This dude takes the bagels back up to the counter, where the employee took it and handed it to my husband, who took it, not realizing it had been touched. If I hadn't been watching we would have eaten food picked through by strangers. Gross! The lame employees did not seem to see what the big deal was. They had the nerve to ask me "Did he touch it, or just open the box?" Seriously? Their excuse was that they were short staffed. Sorry, but there is NO EXCUSE for this. You do NOT hand out food that has been out of your control. You do not know what has happened to it. I, personally, have a problem with eating food touched by strangers, and the employees think I'm weird for that. I think that is a huge problem. You can bet I will not come back! read more

I don't understand how a bagel shop with three girls working up front and at least one person in back could be so slow. Took me over 35 minutes to get a single bagel sandwich and coffee, started to realize something was wrong when people who came in after were getting their orders before me. The girl who took my order didn't even stick at the register when I was paying or offer me the receipt which I had wanted printed. I stood there awkwardly for a minute waiting for her to come back but she didn't so I sat down which was my mistake, apparently she "lost" my order because the ticket wasn't even put on the prep area. Extremely slow service. I waited over 20 minutes for two bagels. My order had been sitting on their back counter for a while (where I couldn't see) When I went to ask about my order the girl said "I just put it there" and gave it to me. When I got in my car and started to head home I checked the bagels because I had a bad feeling. THEY WERE THE WRONG BAGELS. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and they put turkey on it and the melt was extremely cold. When I went back to ask them to remake them she quickly made my bagel and she threw the melt in the microwave. Didn't offer a refund. I will not be going back. read more

Warm, cheesy, and melty. Those are a few words that I'd use to describe the food at Daily Bagel. Nestled away among the apartments and car dealerships off Goodpasture Island Rd., this particular bagel shop has been around for quite some time (and for good reason too!) The food is reasonably priced, with most dishes coming in at under five to ten dollars a pop. Portions are regular sized, hot, and taste delicious! They also serve smoothies, which aren't too shabby, and have coffee options. The staff is polite, though they always seem to be busy, which makes sense due to the high foot traffic and popularity. Like every other bagel deli, they have a wide assortment of different flavors and bulk buy discounts if you're on the go. Decent cream cheese selection to boot! All in all, this place is worth the eats if you're having a hankering for some good old fashioned bagely-goodness. 3/5 stars. read more

This is such a tough review to write. These are my favorite bagels in town - not too tough when toasted, a great size for sandwiches, and tasty (the spinach-mushroom are my favorite). The sandwiches are generally overflowing with high quality and delicious toppings (which does make them a mess to eat, but it's worth it). Terrific pulled pork! Staff are generally friendly and food is sent out promptly. By all rights, this should be a 5-star revew, but... as others have mentioned, the cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired. Tables and surfaces are often not cleaned promptly and there is a chronic ant problem. I was able to look the other way on this until we recently ended up with soft drinks filled with dead ants - yuck! I'm not sure we'll be able to recover from that. Maybe in a few months. read more

This used to be my favorite bagel shop. But the last three times I have been in, the staff have been struggling. I don't know if they are shortstaffed, or what is going on, but I feel like they have been rude each time I was in. I think this morning was the last time I'll go in. We walked in, and you could feel the tension from behind the counter. One of the staff members was commenting that this is absolutely ridiculous and yelling at the cashier to tell everybody from here on out that it's going to be at least a 20 minute wait. Been going there for years. The prior owner, a lovely woman, was always engaged and engaging and cared about her customers. The new owner? Won't even look at you, or say 'hello'. He just blows in. I don't care if his employees are college students, middle-aged, or retirees who want a few extra bucks. I would like to be greeted with a friendly smile when I come in, and listened to when I place my order. There is a trend that comes with this new ownership that 98% of his hires are not trained well, and do not care about the customer. We came in on a week day, about the time people are coming in by the droves to get their bagel and coffee for work, and it was at that time that they were attempting to train a new hire how to operate the 'computer' to take orders. It wasn't fair to her, or customers. The line to order got longer and longer, and we waited for twenty minutes before we got our order to eat in. Every time I come here my order is messed up, whether I'm ordering in person or online. I asked for cream cheese on 3 bagels, and Mayo on one. I got cream cheese on none, and Mayo on the wrong bagel. Not sure if it's lack of attention to orders or just plain stupidity. We have been coming here for a couple years, but today is the last time. The bagels are quite good. However, in my last three visits (spaced over the span of about six months), the soda machine has been chock.effing. full. Of ants. Once, I understand (hate hate hate those little fuckers). Twice, maybe. But it seems as if they haven't bothered to deal with it at all by, you know, hiring an exterminator or otherwise remedying the situation. Now THIS is a bagel shop! After a horrible experience downtown I drove over here to get myself a breakfast bagel. I was sad to see they were out of their Everything Bagels but I chose a mushroom and Swiss (I think?) bagel with egg and cheese. It was pretty tasty! I was surprised to see they have bagel burgers here too, they sounds pretty good. I liked the variety of options they have and the bagels are a decent size for the price. Didn't have a great experience here...second time I've been given a gift card/e-gift card by a coworker and my mother-in-law and they looked super confused when I tried to redeem it. I showed the lady my phone with the redemption code and she rudely said "sooo what am I looking at?" I said it's an e-gift card and she looked all confused and was like "um yeah I've never done those" and just kind of sat there. I'm like you probably have to select gift card on your screen, and she finally tried it and was like "oh, well it worked". She was not helpful and made me feel like I was the crazy one. There really isn't many good places to get bagels in eugene. These taste pretty good, their hummus is very tasty as well. When I came in I ordered 3 bagels and whoever made them only gave me 2/3 bagels, and also didn't make any of them correctly. Luckily she made me the third bagel but I didn't realize the orders were all incorrect until I had left. I probably will go back here because it has better bagels than campus. read more

Sandwich was good after I removed the onions I said to leave of in the first place, but the place was so dirty! Every single table was dirty! I would love to give this place five stars. Their bagels are probably the best I've had in Eugene, especially the everything, poppy seed, and garlic varieties. Here's the thing, though: in order to enjoy these fantastic bagels, you MUST get them to go, take them home, and prepare them yourself. I cannot emphasize this information enough. If you let the Daily Bagel EMPLOYEES prepare your bagel, they will ruin it. They will toast it to a char and smear like half a teaspoon of cream cheese on it; alternatively, they will toast it only to a barely lukewarm state and smear like half a pound of cream cheese on it. They will then cut it into haphazard pieces, toss it into a basket, and hand it to you, and you better look happy because they will NOT listen to any questions, requests, or complaints. The service sucks. Did I not make that clear already? Once I waited for ten minutes on an iced latte because the barista was busy complaining to her coworker about her hangover. Once I asked for napkins and was told -- I am not making this up -- "if they're gone, they're gone, dude." The espresso drinks are just okay. And they're overpriced. But the bagels! Best bagels in Eugene IF you get them to go and get the hell out of the Daily Bagel as quickly as possible. read more

I just don't get it how someone can prefer these bagels. Food is subjective however, so to each their own. These are my least favorite bagels in town. They just don't have the chew, shape, or crust I expect from a great bagel. The service is great at least. It is always fast, friendly and efficient when I have been in. I work at a large local company that orders hundreds of bagels from here every few months. Normally I look forward to these free lunches but not on "bagel day". These remind me not at all of any "NY Style" bagel I have had, which to my knowledge they make no claim to be, but why bother if not? The spreads or "schmears" seem a little funky and overpowered to me as well. Just not for me. Don't knock them until you try them, but please try some of the other bagel spots in town as well. read more

I go here for the Vanilla Bee Latte. So delicious! The Chai Lattes are a good price at $3.00; less expensive than Starbucks. I'm not a big coffee drinker. I do fancier drinks, so I can't speak for the Daily Bagel's coffee, but I do love that they have a punch card! I've also tried one of the bagel sandwiches, which was tasty and came with bagel chips. The cranberry orange bagel is next on my list of things to try! Go early on in the day because it is only open until 4 pm and sometimes the bagels sell out! This is right by my apartment , so I'm here A LOT . Well I'll just start and say that the customer service is ALWAYS top notch friendly and helpful . They are always smiling and have positive attitudes, great staff. My mom left her sunglasses on one of the tables inside , and they had kept them safe for the weekend . I was grateful they care about their customers . Their food is stellar . The sun-dried tomato cream cheese and their berry (name ?) one is SO yummy ! Their bagels are always fresh and and not rubbery ! Their sandwiches are phenomenal - my favorite is the cranberry turkey ! Their smoothies are the best . This is place is great for a quick coffee, breakfast or lunch. I've never been let down by the food or service. The staff is friendly and will help you out if you don't know what to order (like choosing between all the different bagel options. There's a lot.) I am in love with the swiss bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese. Mmm yumm. If I'm feeling hungrier, the cashew chicken salad bagel sandwich is where it's at. The bagel sandwiches come with yummy bagel chips too, so it's a lot of food. If you're going for lunch though, try to get their a little earlier so they don't sell out of the bagel you want to try. I've had their house coffee and americano (which is only like $1.50), not sure what brand of coffee they use, but it's good. I heard they have other drinks like smoothies as well. It was a Monday afternoon. I was 17 years old, and I was feeling in the need for a snack and a safe place to enjoy it. However, what I got was the exact opposite. When I first walked in, I looked at the selection of bagels wanted a cinnamon bagel. When I looked for said bagel, it had a sign that read, "we have the bagels, you just have to ask." So, I casually strolled up to the register and inquired about my cinnamon bagel. Then, in a rude and somewhat mocking tone, I was told that the bagel, the cinnamon bagel, was not in stock. Then I said, "oh that's fine. I guess I'll have a regular bagel." The cashier replied, "you mean PLAIN?" in a very angry and unfriendly tone. So then I said, "oh yeah," and she said, "we don't have that either. Maybe you should look before ordering." Overall, I walked out sans the bagel and felt personally attacked. Zero out of 10 would recommend. Where is my cinnamon bagel? I give The Daily Bagel one star with a heavy heart. I wish there was a no star option. read more

of lately, me and the wife have tried a few bagel places around the Eugene area, as it seemed impossible to us that we hadn't found a "Bagel pusher" that we could trust yet very very randomly (we were in the area to do other stuff), we stopped for breakfast in this little café off Greenpasture Island road. The surprise! Cheap and decent coffee, meaning one dollar espresso!!! In the USA? Come again? The bagels were also crisp to perfection, and the portion of lox was abundant and incredibly meaty and fresh. It all tasted so good, that we got a six-pack (plus one free) of bagels to go, and lox flavored cream cheese (yummy!) Compared to other places in Eugene there is no match at all! I saw that a lot of the bad reviews for this place have to do with bad service experiences. In our case service was very good, and they took our order before we paid, to speed up the process, since the place is small and there was quite a line. TIP : don't order the lox sandwich, it's expensive and comes with unnecessary stuff...just ask for cream cheese and a side of lox, much much better... read more

I am not really understanding the negative reviews as I have been to this place 3 times now. I generally do not do a review until I can get a well rounded feel for the place as I understand sometimes people just have bad days. So lets review- I have ordered a bakers dozen of bagels and cream cheese, a toasted on site Apple Crunch Bagel with cream cheese and their egg and cheese bagel sandwich with the Everything bagel. Service - 4/5 Service has been average to above average on all three visits. The only issue I had is the blonde girl that was working at the prep station the first time I went in looked like she hated life and just looked miserable. The second time I went in she was fine (you see people can have bad days) and the person that helped me was very nice and helpful. The third time (today) I had a very pleasant experience. I do not expect restaurant employees to be jumping for joy when they see a customer, I expect courteous and basic pleasantries with a side of helpfulness. Sometimes I think people expect a sense of servant to master when they come into these places and that is just unreasonable. Bagels - They are not as chewy and stiff as New York style bagels and that suits me just fine. I like my teeth to remain in tact when I am eating my breakfast and when you are using the bagel as a vessel to put cheese, egg and ham on it, having a concrete slab to hold it all in would be very unpleasant. So, yes, they are not as stiff and chewy as New York and Boston style bagels, but they are very good. The egg /cheese/ ham sandwich I ate this morning was fantastic. The star of the show is the Apple Crunch Bagel (nice light dusting of cinnamon and thick sugar with a baked apple slice on top, sweet and delicious) , the Cinnamon Raisin, the Pumpernickel and the Blueberry. The Orange Cranberry needs more Orange and Cranberry and the Everything bagel is a bit too salty for my taste. For the Bagels I give them a 4/5. Not perfect, I have had better but they are good. Coffee - 2.5/5 Okay, this is the bad part. When it comes to coffee I am not expecting a grade A+ latte from a Bagel or Donut shop but I am expecting the basics. The basics are - Hot, tastes like coffee or the drink you ordered, mixed well and consistent. I have ordered the Mocha Latte three times. Here is the deal, they are just not mixing them well and they are not consistent whatsoever. The three Mocha Lattes I have ordered have tasted different, different consistency and different temperature. The first one I had was damned near perfect. It was done by the thinner, shorter guy. The second one was really hot and was not mixed well and the last one I ordered today was not hot enough and I could still taste the "mocha" goo that usually goes to the bottom nearly through the whole drink. Almost a pasty consistency you get from not spending enough time under the mixer stick. It also got cold very quickly. Store - Cleanliness - 5/5. Very clean, nicely decorated. read more

I get bagels here because the location is convenient but I prefer other places in Eugene. There's nothing wrong with their bagels and they beat anything you'll find at a supermarket like Safeway, but the flavor and texture here aren't my preference. They've got a decent selection of cream cheeses that I've got no complaints about. If you're not picky about flavors, you can get day-old bagels and soon-to-expire cream cheeses at a hefty discount. Outside of bagels with cream-cheese, I've never tried anything else off the menu besides the espresso. I can confidently tell you to avoid that. I'll admit that I'm a bit of an espresso snob, but their drinks are lacking no matter what the standard. The baristas are not properly trained at the equipment they use does not lend itself to quality espresso. I think Starbucks is crap and will not drink their espresso, but I'd prefer it to what they serve here. A previous reviewer complained about the service here but I've never had any problems. I can't prepare a bagel any better than they do and I've never had any issues with them being terribly slow or unprofessional. They usually ask me how I'm doing or start up some other type of small talk. In short- I'd recommend The Humble Bagel or a coffee shop (like Vero) that serves bagels if you're going out of you way. If the location is convenient and you just want a bagel- go for it. read more

Update: I received an email apologizing for the bad service from the owner, and she also had the staff prepare a gift card for me to use the next time we came in. We went there this morning and it was great. Everyone knew who I was and apologized for the last time, the food tasted great, and I was able to use my gift card. This is the kind of customer service that will keep me coming back here. How you treat your customers matters! It's the most important consideration for me when I think about where I am going to spend my money, and I'm happy to continue coming here in the future. I don't know what's going on with the shops over here in this little shopping center.
