Trip coffee can be amazing, disastrous and everything in between. Coffee has a daily limit, so if you pick the wrong place, your coffee adventure for that day could be a waste. It's not like going to a bad bar or even restaurant where you still can eat a few hours later. Coffee has a small window and a maximum amount of intake. That being said, this morning we chose wisely. Not only did we use Yelp but we backed up our decision with a google search and that took us to Reddit. Equiano was a top suggestion on both sites. And we understand why. The service was 100% top notch. Helpful. Friendly and knowledgeable, not only about what they offered but about the regions best shops! The coffee itself was very expressive. The Camaroon was totally my style with an earthier tone and the Chai was delightful. The outdoor seating was so very comfortable with a unique sort of panache that I would love to have at my neighborhood coffeeshop. The raked gravel was a nice touch. And even though they didn't have indoor seating with the drizzly day, it was a highlight that I will be repeating in our future travels. read more

Came here on a rainy morning and was a little concerned when I saw they only have outdoor seating (at least for now). However, they had three or four tables in a covered area, so I was able to stay dry when drinking my espresso and my cappuccino. The espresso was excellent: fruity with some caramel notes and, as it cooled, I got some strawberry with milk chocolate flavors. The cappuccino was also quite tasty. Their espresso (which I'm guessing is roasted on the lighter side) was still able to shine through with some of those fruit notes, but the sweet caramel flavor was amplified. Staff was very friendly. I love this little cafe. They roast some of the best tasting coffees I've ever had. I especially like thier Brazil, and thier Bon Mua Vietnamese coffees. I really like that they get to know their coffee farmers and buy thier beans directly from the farms & farm co-ops. If you get to visit Equiano Coffee's tasting room, you're in for a treat. Besides dairy, they offer their own Cashew milk made in-house, and thier house-made chocolate ganache makes wonderful mochas and hot cocoas. You can learn alot about single varietal & single origin coffees from the owners, they're very knowledgable. This cafe with a great namesake serves decent espresso, though it's certainly not the best in Eugene, as one reviewer claimed. on a rambling solo road trip in oregon, when targeting a spot down the street from them, i saw equiano and found it much more appealing (and recognized the name from great yelp reviews!). it was morning, and the whole experience was just what i needed. excellent cortado and chocolate croissant of course, and also sampled the housemade cashew milk (which i've never had before), which was delicious and delicate. the garden was low key brilliant in layout, construction and greenery for chill vibe and lots of seating options. i was pleasantly surprised by the music from vinyl turntable (!) which i had not seen done before and i really appreciated having worked in live radio stations many years back. but most of all i felt very grateful for the friendly calm efficient service and conversation with the barista and man in the gardens (whom i now believe may have been the owners!). really a special place in setting, curb appeal, products, service, music, and energy. this one was the best of the many high marks coffee roasteries i visited in oregon and i will be back, since it's on my way to/from portland. read more

My first time there I ordered my usual, an Americano. I asked for cream and the owner poured cream into a cute little white pitcher. The 12 oz cup held a strong pour and I needed just a little more cream. Wow did I get a vibe when I asked for more! This is a medium roast only place. Apparently dark roast is for "other" cafes as his customers don't like it. You'll throw down $18 or more per pound for this socially responsible brew. I like darker roasts, pshhhh, and lots of cream without the stink vibe. I won't be back. read more

Since moving to Eugene I've been looking for good coffee shop. The cold brew here is amazing. I don't have a coffee maker at home but if I did I would definitely buy their beans. The coffee they sell here is high-end coffee. The only downside is to do covid19 they have limited hours. You order outside the shop door and they'll bring it to you at the entrance. You never enter the shop due to covenant 19 safety precautions. overall I feel like they're taking appropriate measures to make sure that their staff and customers are safe. read more

Equiano is a quaint little coffee shop in the heart of the Whiteaker boasting aromatic coffees and delicious chai lattes. You can always count on the staff to be helpful and answer all of your coffee questions with a smile. This place is cozy and cute with only a couple indoor seats but they do have an outdoor area you can relax in while sipping your coffee. You can also buy gourmet chocolates to pair with your espresso drink of choice. Whenever we have been in we have ordered their Blue Lotus Chai and its perfectly sweet and spicy every time. I have never had to wait very long either which is convenient. They have live music sometimes and little events here that I hope to check out sometime. Street parking can be a little tricky but we can usually always find a spot not too far away. read more

The space inside is cozy, but at times can be quite tight if there are a few people inside. I think someone who appreciates the lifecycle of this places coffee will love Equiano. Cute little place with free, easy, street parking. The owner was working this morning. He was both friendly and knowledgeable. He helped me choose the right beans for my husband/my preferences. He took his time explaining the different flavors and notes and never once seemed inconvenienced by my questions. He truly seems to enjoy what he does which, I believe, is what gives this place such a good vibe. I planned on only purchasing the beans but one of "the regulars" highly recommended the latte with cashew milk. She was right. It's a darn good, subtly sweet latte. I ordered the vanilla latte with oat milk ($6) and it was by far the worst cup of coffee I've ever had. It was bitter, SOUR (bad beans or bad brewing - under extracted), and did not have any vanilla taste despite it being an extra dollar charge. I'm honestly very disappointed as I was hoping a local coffee shop in Oregon would be better than the global chains but left disappointed that the cup of coffee was not even consumable. Please do some QA on your beans and make sure your barista know what they're doing. read more
