First time at The Corner, AND I LOVE IT! Be warned, this place gets extremely packed and there will most definitely be a wait during the weekends. I got there around 12:30ish PM on a Saturday, and the wait for two people was around 45 minutes (although it probably ended up being 30 minutes, now that I think about it). Very small bistro that probably fits 30 people max inside, and 10 max outside. While we waited, my friend and I grabbed coffee and one of their cookies (the famous 2:30 PM cookie, although it wasn't 2:30 PM!) to share.
My friend and I were seated indoors in the middle table, which is a large 6-seater table shared with other patrons. It was a little snug, especially with our giant bucket of ice to chill our prosecco (hurrah for boozy brunches!). They provided us with a freshly squeezed cup of orange juice and were kind enough to explain that we needed to be careful pouring it into our prosecco, as it would react and overflow.
I ordered off of their specials of the day: the pulled pork benedict, with an addition of avocado. Oh yes. Pulled. Pork. Benedict. Quite honestly, I was really hoping that they had the brisket hash with cornbread I kept seeing on the Yelp pictures, but the benedict was just amazing enough. My friend ordered the baked eggs, with an addition of avocado. We also ordered the fresh berry pancakes, with the berries on the side, as my friend does not like it on the pancake itself.
The pulled pork benedict was phenomenal. It did come slightly overcooked, and our waitress noticed and even offered to take it back, but I was so hungry I didn't care. It still ran a little! They were very generous with the pulled pork, and I'm so glad I ordered the side of avocado! Everything just really blended well together.
The baked eggs were exactly to my friend's liking, although the plate was rather smaller than she had envisioned.
The pancakes. Wow. They tasted like an ACTUAL cake and were perfectly hot and griddled. Best pancakes I've ever had hands down. Pancakes are usually too dense and big (like in any one of the pancake houses in Bergen County), but these were perfectly light and fluffy and HOT. Unfortunately, they came with all of the berries and cream on top, AND we were given the short stack, even though we had ordered the full stack. We wanted to say something, but our waitress was disappearing more and more and we couldn't get to her. No matter, the pancakes itself were amazing, and I would 100% go back for more.
We wanted to take more of those cookies home, and asked our waitress if we could get two chocolate chip cookies. She let us know that there was only one chocolate chip left, but there was also double chocolate chip. Great! We'll take one of each!....20 minutes passed...no waitress, no cookies. At this point, we were starting to think that our waitress was losing her mind, or that something was up. When we finally caught her attention, we didn't mention the cookies at all and just asked for the check. It probably took her another 10 minutes for that, and then another 10 to ring us up. Note: the restaurant was less packed than when we started, so I'm not sure what happened.
Still wanted those cookies, so we got up and decided to get them ourselves. The chocolate chip cookie was gone. Talk about such a huge disappointment, especially when we asked for it wayyyyyy earlier. I still got the double chocolate chip, but my friend was pretty upset.
All in all, a very good place to have brunch, waitress experience aside, which is why I'm knocking down one star (it started off great and kinda just teetered off). But I'm sure that I will not be disappointed when I make it back another time. read more
