A pantry catastrophe is what brought me to the Container Store. It's located right down the street from where I work in the El Segundo Plaza on the corner of Sepulveda and Park Plaza near Rosecrans. On July 4th, I woke up to an infestation in my pantry and ended up throwing out a bunch of food which made me mad. What a waste of money! I went to the Container Store so that I could replace the Cambro containers without airtight lids with some sort of containers that did have airtight lids. The world of containers can be mind boggling for some people who don't think about organization all that much. I actually checked their on line store before I went to make my purchase knowing that the Container Store usually has a large selection available. I originally sought out Cambro containers large enough to store rice in bulk, but I guess we weren't closing the lids like they were supposed to be and then coupled with my son leaving the cabinet door open, welcomed bugs to the feast that was in the pantry. So I think I lucked out when I spotted 4.5 quart ClickClack Space cubes on sale. These are airtight, BPA free and stackable. I gathered 6 of these with white lids. While I was making my selection, a gal from the front desk came and talked to me and asked if she could help me find anything. By that time, I already made up my mind that the ClickClack containers would probably work for what I wanted to use them for, like storing rice, oatmeal, pasta, cereal, beans, etc. She offered to get me a cart, but I had a basket, and I asked her to grab 2 more and take them to the counter so that I could complete my purchase. I had no problem at the counter, it was just busy right after work so I had to wait a few minutes before I could cash out. Parking is tight here due to the fact that there are a few restaurants across the parking lot. Oh, and those two spaces right near the door? Those are specifically marked for people who shopped on line and go to pick up their stuff at the store. It's a nice service without any extra fees. read more

I have seen this store driving to and from the Beach now for at least a couple of months. I was in the area yesterday (10-19-12) and figured it was time to stop and check it out. This store was not lying about their name being the Container Store. This store has containers out the yang-yang. Every container you could possible think up this store had, items to store food, clothing, shoes, maximize closet space you name it they had it. This store is located in the El Segundo Plaza on Sepulveda (PCH) in between Rosecrans & El Segundo. There are no stores in this plaza where you can penny pinch and this is one of them. The Container Store prices were priced high and that was the reason I did not purchase anything. I could see if you were in rush of some sort to get a container but that is a predicament that I could never see myself in. I believe you can find a majority of the items sold here at either the dollar store and/or Home Depot for much cheaper and for that reason I will not purchase something from here. I might browse the isles again killing time but I will leave empty handed. As for parking there is a plethora (Three Amigos) of parking this shopping complex is HUGE. read more

Amazing all the things they have in this store. It is definitely a specialty store. I went here recently to purchase packing peanuts because they sell a special kind made of corn starch instead of Styrofoam that is more environmentally friendly. It was about $5 for a large bag. Glad to see environmentally friendly packaging available in the area. read more

Greatest store ever. I came prepared with a spreadsheet that detailed the items, SKU#s, quantity, expected price, and sum total. When I arrived, I asked if someone could help me review to make sure I had everything I needed. After a quick but thorough review, they mentioned I omitted a left and right piece when I had listed 2 of the same item. Perfect! After reviewing he stated "give me 30 minutes". I need to cut some pieces so it takes a bit of time. I responded "so I just shop around or leave and return in 30 and everything will be ready?" "Yes" Not only was it less than 30 minutes, they called me when it was done. I finished my açaí bowl, returned, went to the register to pay and my cart was waiting with all the products! And it matched my spreadsheet to the cent. I completed the install that night and viola! It's perfect! Thanks for the great experience! I'll be back to stock up for my next project! read more

Had a question, and tried to get someone in the store to help me for 20 minutes. Wandered all around the store, but everyone was helping another customer. As I stood near each worker and gave the eye contact and smile to show that I needed something, but would politely wait - no one ever addressed me. Just had me standing there...forever. No "I'll be right with you" - or "do you have a quick question?" - nothing. I bounced from work to worker, but no one would act like I was even awkwardly standing there. I finally talked over a worker to get an answer to my yes or no question then quickly left, rather annoyed. No thanks. read more

This was my first time in The Container Store, and WOW! I've always thought "what could they possibly sell in there?" but I needed to buy some totes today, so I decided to check this place out. I got sucked into every aisle of the store, and ended up buying wayyy more than I anticipated. This store sells every little teeny way to organize your things and it's amazing! This branch in particular has a stellar staff. Everyone is so nice and helpful and answered all my questions. Richard, the manager, was particularly superb. I told him what I was looking for and he spent at least an hour with me trying to figure out the best solution for my needs. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and a great dude. Thank you! read more

I went here with my daughter to buy come glass containers. I found what I was looking for and the floor staff was helpful. I went to the register and i was behind someone who was already paying so i proceeded to place my items 4 glass containers on the register table similar to targets. I was then completely embarrassed when the clerk looks at me and says "were not done yet what are you doing" I said putting my stuff up for ringing up. She says are you with this other client. She says oh we dont do the here. I said ok and left. Why would you have register tables if you're not supposed to place stuff on them. So i went online to find what I was purchasing at the container store asnd found it for half the price on amazon. I'm usually not a price shopper because I want stuff right away. But can imagine how happy I was when they lost my business and I found it for half the price. read more

It seems like someone watched one too many episodes of Senfield and felt that the notion of a coffee table book that was in itself a coffee table would be a great idea. Otherwise I have no earthly explanation as to why this store exist. It's a store that sells containers. What's in the containers? NOTHING! I mean, it's great if you have contents that have no container to contain themselves in. But really, a cardboard box or a milk crate just seems like it does the same thing. You're left scratching your head wondering how bougie things got in this capitalistic society that we actually have a chain of stores that sell nothing but plastic containers to put our collected crap in. Though you know what, it's somewhat useful. I don't like the prices though. For what you're getting, it seems like these things and just about anything in here is completely over priced.. or at least far more than I would expect these sort of things would cost. Empty bottles, sure, they're cool looking, but around $7-8 per bottle? Yeeeeeah, I think not. I'm sure this is a useful place for a niche requirement. read more

Oh Jeez, you know you're getting old when you get excited to go to The Container Store. My age has finally caught up with me. Who knew organizing could be so much damn fun. The place is absolutely clean and orderly (I suppose it has to be in order to live up to it's name). Tis the season to ignore Thanksgiving and go directly to Christmas and the other miscellaneous holidays. Everything is in it's proper place. I bought a fancy schmancy under the bed gift wrapper holder schmolder thingy. Not the typical plastic storage box that you can get anywhere at Bed Bath & Beyond, but this is a fancy fabric type under the bed gift wrapper holder schmolder thingy with zippers and everything. It came in either red or grey. I got grey. They also have more trash cans on display than you can believe. Then there's all the things you didn't know you needed because you didn't know they even existed but once you saw it in the store, you wonder how you ever lived without one to begin with. These items are (and not in any particular order): see through shoe boxes, luggage holder straps, fancy gift boxes, sparkly gift bling bling accessories, multiple tier shoe racks, dry erase clip board, and many many many more. read more

While I love the Container Store, the disorganization and the huffiness of the staff when asked to look something up, or when asked to see if they have something in stock in the back is so discouraging. I waited about 10 minutes, only to have the girl see me, roll her eyes, and then make me wait another 10 minutes before coming out again. When I heard that The Container Store was coming to my workplace neck of the woods - I had two thoughts at the same time - WOO HOO, and I'M SCREWED. Costa Mesa is far enough away from us that I would never consider just taking a casual drive down to shop there, so we went maybe once or twice a year, every time coming out with gargantuan, ridiculously oversized bags filled with stuff. I mean truly, our home should really look like the 'after' in a Real Simple magazine makeover article. But I digress. Warning, this store will not make you more organized, it'll just make you buy lots and lots of things that you think you need to make yourself and your life more organized! All that enthusiasm aside, I've only been to the store a couple times since it opened. I guess it's like any other highly coveted store/shop, once it's nearby, you don't go nearly as often as you think you will. I'm still excited that it's in the So.Bay though, I can drop by anytime to pick up what I "need" (^_^) Parking is easy, in the Plaza El Segundo lot by Sammy's Pizza. They even have a couple prime parking spots available for those efficient shoppers that shop online and pick up in store (^_~) read more

Amazing selection of containers for the home or business. Most of the stuff is cheaply made in China but what isn't in this day and age? If you have to have it, buy it. Personally, I prefer to buy online from Amazon or eBay if I can to save $$$. Located off busy Sepulveda Blvd which has horrendous traffic, in a busy, fairly new mall with other stores like Whole Foods, Best Buy, and restaurants. Why 4 stars? The Container Store is a store that I literally avoided for 2-3 years, only because I am an organization freak, I love this store so much. They have everything that you could imagine. I finally gave in when this location opened because it is so close to my office, I couldn't resist. The cashiers are super friendly and helpful, the store is laid out very well, it is easy to find everything I need. The only reason I didn't give this location 5 stars is because I wasn't able to find a single person to help me when I had a question about a product. I looked and looked and finally gave up without buying the item that I needed. read more

So I heard about The Container Store from a friend because she had this super cute makeup container that was just unbelievably convenient for all her little lipsticks, makeup brushes, etc... I came in today with my grandma and we were more than impressed by the wide selection they had. There were a lot of unique boxes, crates, jars, etc that you can't really find anywhere else, at least in one store. I came looking for small containers for my new house I'm moving into, kitchen utensil organizers, door hooks, etc... I was more than surprised to find that most of these things were decently priced. I also bought an Elfa drawer, which I have to admit was a bit more expensive then what I was planning to spend for drawers, but they definitely have cheaper plastic ones you can get individually that does the job of keeping clothes, storage just as well. The biggest plus of all was the customer service. I was approached twice by employees who did a wonderful job at helping me obtain my Elfa drawer. When I went to the cashier the lady was more than helpful and even helped us bring our two carts full of stuff to my car. It was great. I love my new Elfa drawer and all the small organizational boxes and containers I bought. I'm definitely going to be a regular customer. read more

the Container store you have yet to keep me contained about the awesomeness in your establishment. Sometimes i could stay for hours just looking at things in here figuring out how to keep my organization on lock. I always discover something new and realize that i have options on how to get my mess together. the last day i came , one of your friendly associates helped pick out things i could use to hang up stuff on my wall. As a person who is trying to become more organized and is already OCD on certain things, this place is heaven on earth. They have every possible container, type of storage, and organizational stuff anyone can ever dream of. The employees are very helpful, especially when I was buying my new desk and bookshelf (Props to Marilyn who helped me & my mom select which one would be good for us and this other girl whose name starts with a J I believe for accurately measuring the desk I ended up getting so it would fit my semi-small room space). I've had a great experience here and I love coming here whenever I get a chance or whenever I'm feeling inspired to organize my stuff! This location is especially great to shop at because there's also a Whole Foods a little down the ways so if you are hungry and/or thirsty, you can eat, drink, and browse around :) read more

Attended the first opening day of the Container Store. While it was a madhouse in there and in the parking lot, I did lime the selection of items. A few steps up from Ikea, the Container Store has organizational everything for your closet, office, trunk of your car, kitchen, bedroom, you name it. Baskets, hangers, bowls, specialty kitchen wares. Also a pretty decent travel accessories section. There were a few items that I had been looking for for a while in places like Homegoods that are hit and miss. While I did not get anything on this trip since I didn't want to wait in the really really long check out line, I figure I live close enough to go back once the opening hype dies down. Prices are moderate - not the most expensive but not super cheap (like Ikea). read more

The Container Store just opened in the El Segundo shopping center, The space was formerly Borders Books. The store is big, new and fresh. I got there in the later part of the afternoon so parking was more full than usual, but I was able to get a space fast. This store is about organization and big retail prices. While the prices are fair on some items, similar items can be found cheaper at Target and other discount stores. There are a lot of items here that are pretty exclusive to the store. While there are some things at decent prices, some things are super expensive. The higher end stuff has good quality and the lower end stuff is average quality. The office area has a large selection of things that are great for a home office. I did not find anything sturdy enough for a commercial office. The closet section is the best part of the whole store. There was a great selection for organizing just about anything. Is retail back? Hmmm not sure. When big box stores close and the properties stay vacant for long periods of time, it's an indication of a faltering economy. That was the case here with Borders closing. The Container Store snapped up the space and perhaps it means these types of large retailers have faith of consumer confidence. read more

The Container Store in El Segundo offers a seemingly endless variety of containers, trash cans, storage things, and travel stuff that you dont even need but have to have! Most of which can be purchased on Amazon for a lot less. Still, you're there, the store is organized and cool and you will buy stuff. The staff are generally friendly, but one in ten will ring you up with a special elitist attitude that makes you die inside a little. Still, I like this store because it is fun to shop for things you ultimately dont need, and it is really a great place to buy presents for people. Recommend: visit, shop, take advantage of sales, but really just get notes of things and come home get them on Amazon later. read more

Big store with a ridiculously large collection of boxes - specialized right down to Christmas wreath storage. My first visit there, the staffing seemed a bit thin, but when I found them, what a pleasant surprise. They were dealing with 2-3 customers at a time and doing a great job. The cashier was handing a difficult customer with patience & courtesy and made a point later of apologizing for the wait - which was not excessive. Overall, I was treated as well as my best retail experience by the staff here - all of whom seemed focused on creating repeat customers. Which I will be. read more

We recently had TCSclosets installed at our home and we are beyond happy. From the moment we started the process TCS has proven to be the absolute best in every way. Our closets are a dream come true. Gorgeous and exactly as we had hoped for. The customer service and attention to detail has been extraordinary. John, our in home designer, was incredible. Helpful and knowledgeable in all our needs. Our installer,Ali, was the hardest working and most reliable worker ever!! His attention to getting it perfect was crazy!! This is the organization extravaganza! We were able to find hard to find things such as sugar pack organizer for restaurant use. We were also able to find a big selection of sponge organizer for the kitchen sink. The things that stood out to us is how thoughtful the store is. The merchandizer of the store has done an amazing job to take care of all our daily needs and put it all in one place for us. Good job. read more

I think this is my favorite Container Store in the LA area, at least of the ones I've been to. I had a particularly positive experience there today. A few days back, I purchased an item that I was having difficulty assembling at home. One of the staff members - I think his name was Jimmy - spent 15+ minutes putting the item together for me. This is a review for my store return experience: I ordered 8 different items online (shirt, shoe drawers, and dividers). Unfortunately, I had to return them to the store. The lady at the checkout counter was very pleasant to the customers who were buying 1 or 2 small items. But when it was my turn, (four big boxes of RETURN), I heard nothing but whining from her -- "Ayayay!" "Oh my god!" "tsk tsk tsk!" As a customer, I felt that she was putting the blame on me for returning them. She opened the first box and handed me the scissors to open the rest of them. The checkout line was filing up because she was the only one at the counter at that time. It was a bad and unprofessional customer experience. Nowadays, with ecommerce booming, excellent customer service is essential to keep retail businesses alive. And with what I've experienced today, this store will not make it if their employees have that kind of attitude. read more

I tried their click & pick service. When I went to the store, their employee (Miriam?) dumped $200+ of Elfa at my feet - literally on the floor, at my feet. When I asked for help getting it to my car because of a back injury, Miriam copped a total attitude. She was so rude that I told her I would handle it myself. She stomped off, muttering under her breath. I've been a loyal customer of Container Store, and the El Segundo Store in particular since it opened. It's sad that the quality of their service has deteriorated this much and it's sad that their lack of judgement leads them to hire people like Miriam that should not be allowed to interact with anyone in a customer service setting. read more

My husband and I have been huge fans of the container store for years and we've spent several thousand dollars there recently. All of our experiences in the past have been exceptional. The customer service is beyond great with all the employees so knowledgable and helpful and friendly. We love the products so much that it's the first place we go for our organizational needs. Today however, we had a very different experience. One that has soured us on one of our favourite stores. We have a rather large purchase that we need to return and plan on spending the credit in store to make sure we get the right thing for our home. My husband called a few days in advance to make sure it's all okay since we have a brand new baby & it's a lot of work to haul everything out of our second floor apartment & load the car with the products and our baby. When we got there, the manager on duty, Ed, was the first person we met. My husband began explaining what we were there to do & before he could finish, Ed cut him off and told him he couldn't do it. My husband told him that he called ahead to make sure it was okay and it was, so he pulled up our file (we're POP Perks members) to see if there were any notes about the phone call on file. My husband was a little frustrated with the way the manager was speaking to him, so rather than staying in the conversation, he went for a walk while I stayed to talk to him. He went on to tell me the return policy (which is valid for our purchase) & then said "look, it's 30 minutes before closing on New Years Day. If you feel like you'd rather deal with someone else, because you don't like my vibe, please come back & talk to another manager." My jaw literally dropped & I clarified "So you're telling me that you don't 'feel' like doing this right now, so we need to come back later." He said "I wouldn't use that phraseology exactly." My baby in tow, a cart full of their product & he's sending me away. I'm appalled and extremely disappointed in our experience today. This is not the way to retain loyal customers. If you asked me yesterday whether or not I recommend the container store you would have received an enthusiastic "absolutely" now, I can't say whether I'll ever step foot in the store again and I certainly can't recommend it to anyone I know. read more
