This particular pottery Barn has always had a great staff even if some of them have come and gone-particularly one gentleman who started out with them as a teenager and eventually left to return to his family in Mexico. That guy's customer service was off the chain, and it was always a pleasure to greet him. Regretfully, his name escapes me. Should I find out upon another return, I'll be sure to edit and update this particular review. Many times when I've come in here, I'm always asked by a staff member whether or not I want some fresh water. They usually have or keep a nice jar with some fresh lemons already squeezed ready to keep you hydrated. It's a nice touch. And while the price of seemingly all the products here are somewhat well; pricey, you can't help but feel at home, plop down, and people watch for a bit especially if you get lucky and get one of the couches or love seats that face outward toward the mall foot traffic. And while my mother is more of a customer at this particular location than I am, I have purchased products here before and have always come away happy with the results. I would highly recommend anyone who is in need of these type of home type furnishings to come to this particular location, as the overall customer service has always been on point. I have lost all trust in this brand. After looking at over a dozen sofas, I decided to go with the Dream Sectional at PB. That was the wrong choice. The couch was delivered in horrible condition - dirty, seams coming apart. I had to jump through hoops to finally get someone to help me resolve how the item was delivered. I've been given the run around for weeks now. They sent a furniture "medic" to my home to try and fix the damage, he arrived with frightening dirty hands. The one piece of the couch is still messed up and they refuse to give me a replacement or offer any type of compensation aside from replacing the back panel of fabric ??? which does not sound like a fair solution to a $7000 purchase. Just two days ago ordered a mattress, received a request to make a shipment appointment and was emailed the next morning saying that my ordered was cancelled because they made a mistake in the price. I got rid of my old mattress because I was receiving a new one in two days. Now I'm forced to sleep on my couch until I can purchase another one. I give rave reviews to Pottery Barn's customer service department to handling a Christmas Present issue I sent to my daughter in Texas. She didn't receive it but UPS insist they delivered it. My credit card company handled so poorly that I cancelled my credit card and will never use them again (Chase)! It was very expensive but Pottery Barn took very good care of me. We found a floor model that we felt would match well with our Toulouse bed. She helped pull out the stand to get a better look and even helped us get it in the car. Parking: Macys Parking structure is the easiest place to go with all the construction. TLDR: If you must shop here, wear all the luxury goods and maybe name drop. Maybe then you won't be belittled. I went during dinner time so benefit of the doubt the staff was hungry which is probably why they were very unhelpful and rude. I came in to return an item and stood at the register with an employee who was sorting some paperwork. I gave her a good minute to finish her task before I spoke up and was acknowledged. She then pointed me to go to the back register. Note that there are three registers at this store with no signs indicating the difference between each register. I went to the back register and told the employee that I was directed here. She stared at me and said I am on the phone with a customer. She wasn't holding a phone. After about 5 minutes on the computer she told me I will call her back. I was beyond confused at that point but she processed the return. It took ten minutes to do a return with nobody in the store. If you scroll through the reviews, it is not unheard of for the associates to be rude, unhelpful, and belittling. read more

I've been a Pottery Barn fan for many years and MANY thousands of dollars. Unlike other patrons of the Manhattan Beach store, I've always found the staff helpful and accommodating - especially Joan. However, I should note that I'm patient and probably less demanding than many customers. Yes, retail stores get busy and sometimes you have to wait a bit for help or someone to grab the phone while you're selecting fabrics, etc. In all, pretty good. 4 stars read more

Came here for a friends wedding registry. We walked in and were directed to so many different employees to try and find the one employee that did registries. Not a great first impression. After we got the scanner, it was fun walking around the store and scanning items. Some items are good to buy here like they have really soft towels and sheets, but for other items like fake plants and glassware i would say it is pretty expensive and over priced. The bed at the front of the store really threw us off when we noticed pube hairs or really short black hairs on the white comforter. It looked like someone got a hair cut then layed on the bed. It looked like it had been there for a while and nobody was going to clean it. Other than that, it was a decent experience. We definitely had more fun and the bride felt more special at the williams sonoma across the way. read more

I was looking looking forward to learning some design tips and eagerly responded to attend the free class offered at Manhattan Beach Pottery Barn on Sunday. To my dismay when I arrived at 11am no one knew about the class and the designer was not present. When I went back an hour later and asked for an explanation the lady at the register offered to refer me to someone to answer any questions which I responded my reason for attending the class was to learn something new. She then took my name and phone number and said her manager would call. That has not happened. Disappointed about Jennifer because she failed to follow up with me the next day as promised. When I was at the store, I was impressed with her helpfulness. I thought it was very nice of her to go above and beyond to pick up the item that I like from a different store location since she is going to visit there anyway. Strange this location seems to attract reviews less than a-okay. Those who follow me know I can't stand shopping so I'd be inclined to mark every experience less than enjoyable, but having a little integrity and a whole lot of patience means I'll absolutely be fair regardless of my personal hang-ups. I furnished my home at a time when I didn't know the difference between Dupioni silk and matlasse...when the staff helped me hand pick every pillow, blanket, linen and bed collection, credenza, headboard, dining table accessory, flatware, stemware, lighting and everything in between. Basically I learned to decorate before HGTV was in existence and its all thanks to Pottery Barn, the catalog and the staff. Every season and holiday I'm inspired by what the PB buyers think (know?) I'll love and I incorporate that style into my decor. And let's face it, who doesn't love PB Halloween and Christmas? PB was one of the first to sell Luminara candles and I'm grateful for this: I've had my share of overnight unattended burning candles that were this close to being the cause of a house fire, but no more! If you haven't seen a Luminara candle in person, you really must...they're beautiful. Got college age kids, nieces or nephews? It's easy to spoil them with PB Dorm and being the coolest aunt in the world is a title I wear proudly. I've always had terrific service here and the staff is attentive and helpful. Parking is crumby, but once I'm inside PB (or Williams Sonoma) I feel like I'm home. Judson is a gentleman and a professional...been so long since I visited the store, I'll need to soon. Check out the new "Artisanal Vintage" collection for a fall and winter statement...the palette is smoky sexy and forgiving enough to be introduced to whatever your decor. We bought a dining room table and chairs. The staff was very helpful and friendly. However, when we went to make the purchase and asked for them to be delivered together, we found that the company policy dictates that since the table was in an immediate delivery place and the chairs would take a bit longer our order would be split with two delivery charges. The charge was only $150 but the idea that we had no say in the delivery order tells us that this company policy excludes the wishes of the customer. Our friends tell us that they don't shop at Pottery Barn because the feel that the merchandise is overpriced. Now they have another reason to shop elsewhere. read more

Very disappointed with PB customer service. Bought a couch and chair back in July22th. I was told my order was going to make it just on time for September 21st where my Husband and I host our anual company dinner at our home. I had to declined the order due to damages on the pieces and wrong order. Half of the couch was one design and The rest was a different design. I called the store and the manager offered me to keep these pieces for the party . But who wants to host a party with two damages and different types of furniture? My husband and I continue calling to reach out costumer care and all we heard was they re- ordered the pieces with ETA for late December to January. No one else has contacted us to follow up with us and find a solution. We are couch less and they don't seem to care about their loyal customers. If I could do below 1 star, I would!!! I've been eyeing this swivel chair (see pic) for 6 months. I was told, they couldn't sell their floor model for display purposes until Spring! Tried ordering online but $350 shipping fee turned me off, not to mention 3/4 weeks delivery. I checked in once a week or when I'm at Manhattan Village mall, to admire & see if I get lucky they might finally let it go! The sales woman even suggested to leave my info so the store or her personally will call me if/when it's for sale. It's not a cheap purchase $1699 (With 20% sale discount) without tax, as someone would hope a good salesperson would not let it slip their mind! Well, they FAILED! Ive only really been to the PB at the 3rd Street Promenade (its no longer there) and have had decent service. I only needed to contact 1-800 once on them for the same thing (Snotty attitude). National HQ handled it superbly. Here's how it went down at the PB in Manhattan Beach mall: 4 Stars for their furniture, hardware, rugs and "nick nacks". -2 stars for their blatant disrespectful customer service. Really...snotty attitude like I don't exist? As a consumer all I ask for is "Hello" and "Please let me know if you have any question" thats it. I don't want to play the race card, so I'm going to write this off as the male employee working on 12/9/12 after 5pm as an asshole. I come here to buy things that I like in my home...Im a buyer and a fan. Ill go to Restoration Hardware (its owned with PB, I know this) next time or shop on line so I don't have to deal with this staff. WE went to this location looking for some dining room chairs and were shown various models. We decided on a specific model of chairs and were told that they would have to be ordered and shipped to our location(that we could not take them or pick them up). We agreed to purchase them and have them delivered. We were surprised to find out that there was a deliver charge which was never presented to us in the first place. We reluctantly agreed to pay their stupid deliver charge even though we offered to pick them up from their warehouse but they said that is not their "policy"! So we waited for the delivery date which came and went. WE called repeatedly to find out were our chairs were and they said they got 'delayed'. Finally after a month of waiting we got a shipment that arrived in boxes. We opened the boxes only to find the raw materials to build our own chairs. This was never explained to us when we bough them!!! We also discovered that there was only enough raw materials to build 2 chairs (not the 6 that we ordered). We called this company again to find out were the other chairs were and why we were sent only "Raw Materials". They said that there was a delay for the other 4 chairs and there would be another deliver charge(that we wouldn't have paid for if they all came together). They said they did not know when the other 4 chairs would come but they would try to waive the second delivery charge(soooo nice of them!!!) They also said about the 'Raw Materials' thing that is they way they come. We waited another two and a half months for the second waive of chairs to come which we did not appreciate having to wait so long since we purchased them for a dinner party with the idea to us them for a dinner party which came and went since they took so long to arrive. We attempted to build our new chairs but found that process a joke. (I think if they had given us the seeds to grow the trees for the wood for the chairs we would have had a better shot at getting a better finished assembled set of chairs!) We contacted them about returning the chairs not long after and they finally agreed and picked them up and issue a refund. We are still waiting for that refund but they now say that they may need to make a re-stocking charge since we waited so long to return them from the date of purchase(the only reason there was a 'wait' is because they waiting so long to deliver all of them!!!!) WHAT TOTAL BS!!!!!!! Seems unbelievable scammy!!!!!!! I would suggest to NOT shop at this store-BUYER BEWARE! (if you want disassembled furniture go to Ikea---you can pick up your 'raw materials' before leaving the parking lot & not get hit with BS delivery charges and r-stocking crap fees). read more

Came for "story time" with my daughter on Tuesday of Thanksgiving week as her preschool is closed. Called ahead to ask and confirm that "story time" was being held at 11 and was told it was. Walked into the store at 11:05, literally 11:05 and saw an employee working there. Asked him where "story time" was and he said it was over. I thought I must have lost my mind. I looked at my watch and confirmed on my phone that was 11:05 and I told the employee. He said "yes, story time is over, they read the books and gave stickers. But if you want I could ask the person who read the story to come and read your daughter a story and give her a sticker." I think I just kept saying "but it's 11:05" at least 10 times and my daughter looked so confused. The person who does "story time" came out, said "who's the little girl who is crying because she didn't get a sticker." My daughter was not crying and she certainly could not have cared less about stickers. Anyway she read a book to my daughter and another little girl who had also been jipped in about 2.5 seconds, slapped some stickers on them and left. My head was spinning for a little while. I could not understand why they would even advertise that they had a "story time." Every story time I have ever gone to is at least 30-45 minutes. What is the point of a story time that does not even last 5 minutes? I am not sure. The mother of the other little girl also felt the same way. Thankfully there were some toy dolls and doll houses for my daughter to play with. She enjoyed that for about 15 minutes while I tried to pick up my jaw off the floor looking at the prices. There was a bunkbed in the shape of a dollhouse with an area underneath for toys/desk/etc...for over $2000. It was nothing special. They also sold dolls that were clearly trying to imitate the American Girl series and those were over $100. I give them two stars because their items are very cute. I love their blackout curtains. I cannot deny that. But the prices are outrageous and they should just eliminate their so-called story time, it's just embarrassing. Is it a just a ploy to get people to come into the store? Wow, pottery barn. I'm absolutely disappointed. Not necessarily with this location exactly but I don't know where else to put this. I placed an order for a trundle bed in this store two weeks ago to have it delivered and assembled yesterday. However, yesterday the delivery men said "we don't have enough time to assemble the trundle part of your bed but we will assemble the main bed." I stood there bewildered as to how anyone would think it at all makes sense to anyone to only half assemble the the bed and then leave. I immediately called customer service and they assured me that the delivery men were in the wrong and to tell them to stay and assemble the trundle. I relayed this message to the delivery guys, they refuse and quickly leave with still a half assembled bed. After 40 minutes on the phone and the customer service lady kindly trying to get ahold of these delivery guys it ended up with me having to wait for another phone call this upcoming week to set up assembly for the trundle part of this bed. So hopefully that phone call will be happening soon. I'm so disgusted, this is a complete waste of my time. I cannot believe pottery barn and their employees treat customers like this. Although I've bought a lot of furniture from PB (and had my pottery barn wedding registry there recently), I will think twice ever getting another piece of pottery barn furniture delivered to my house again. read more

For me this place is hit or miss. The merchandise is amazing but pricey, but the customer service is at time great and at times terrible. I came in one day looking for couch pillows and literally could not get any help at all. I actually found pillows that I like but decided not to buy them because of the lack of customer service. Then I went back on a different day (ugh I really liked those darn pillows) and the people were soo nice. Like two different people offered to help me, and even though there was a wait at the register, the cashier took my pillows so I wouldn't have to stand and hold them for so long.
