I've maybe given one star reviews on an actual business twice in my life... but I'm truly doing this so people stop wasting their money on this place. I went there for the first time 5 years ago... I remember the food being awful. They solely rely on the views and neglect their food. Last night my boyfriend wanted to surprise me with a nice dinner. He said he had made Rez there and I immediately said no, no let's go somewhere else. Well, he then informed me he had already spent $80 non-refundable. $60 on Rez and $20 to purchase a single rose for the table. So sweet and kind but I was sweating knowing he had wasted his money. I did want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Wrong of me. We get there for our Rez time and have to wait 15 mins... Rez was at 8:30. Ok, it's Saturday. Places are busy. We get our table... over 22 mins go by. No ones talked to us, not even a busser to bring water. I have to flag down a server to ask if we have a waiter. He profusely apologizes (not his fault he's not our server) and gets us a sparkling water and puts in calamari apps and burrata. He was so sweet. our apps finally come after 30 mins, now we've been there for an hour- they were very subpar. The calamari batter isn't light and airy like you'd expect at fine dining more thick and low quality fish more like tgifridays. No shade as you usually expect certain quality pertaining ton price point. The burrata was around 25$ with two small slices of bread. Our server finally comes to introduce himself. I know I'm not ordering an entree to waste more money here so I get the small plate shrimp and grits, he gets gnocchi. Shrimp and grits not edible. You get three little over cooked, over-seasoned shrimp on a pile of grits with a ton of this red pepper sauce which is more like a soup. Gnocchi is ok. They should be 90% potato and- no they're just not. So now another hour has gone by. Server never once asks how our food is- never seen him again. We desperately want to leave so I go up to the hostess stand and ask- how can we pay. Insane- $60 to come here to have to ask over and over for help. You get better service at zipps (which by the way I love) but they charge nothing and let you just walk in. The server after another 10 mins drops the check (it's past 10p) and says sorry- I took off your calamari. Don't believe these influencers who are getting paid to tell you to eat here. I reserved a window table ($50) for an anniversary dinner. Great view and table. I ordered a rose ($15) to be one the table. It was in a vase but the flower was wilting. Disappointed. I ordered Surf and Turf ($90) and got two small scallops and a bone in ribeye that was half fat that I trimmed. Disappointed. My wife got the filets, there were two that were excellent. We had two drinks and the bill was almost $300 including the window seat cost and rose. It was an anniversary dinner. The server took our dessert order for brownie sundae and also brought another dessert with a candle. Set reservations for 5:30pm paid deposit for a window seat for my boyfriends birthday - didn't get seated until almost 6pm and window seat was a table of 4 and when I asked if they had any of the two seat tables I seen walking up available the lady told me no. The small plate Brussel sprouts were amazing - the calamari here I wasn't a fan of but the sauce it came with was amazing. The drinks were amazing the jalapeño watermelon was amazing and my boyfriend loved his old fashion whisky drink. The ribeye meal I ordered was a good amount of food but I asked for medium well and I received medium rare, it took a while to get our entries so I didn't want to send it back but I didn't eat close to any of the steak for this reason. My boyfriend got the chicken, the waiter informed us it was amazing which it indeed was good but the portion was so small and it just came with one small chicken breast cut in half, and one side. This was kind of disappointing Since it was for his birthday, I expected him to be able to have a big meal especially for the price. I asked about a steak photo I seen on yelp and she informed me they no longer have that and the steaks they have are half the size of that one. I was bummed. Seems the portions have decreased but the prices are still the same. The view was amazing - I did think the rotation would be a little faster, it was really slow and didn't constantly move. Also the amount of people waiting in the lobby was insane, I believe they overbook and the time you book for you don't get a table for about 20-30 minutes. The packed lobby made it awkward when you had to go to the restroom. The birthday dessert was amazing - but it did take a while for them to bring it out for it to be such a simple dish. I had higher expectations for this restaurant, that's why I chose it over many others and did the $50 deposit for the window seat. It kind of left me with a bad taste in my mouth. - I must say valet was amazing - they were quick and it's only $15 for 3 hours and if you bring your ticket and get it stamped you get $5 off. read more

So they did a remodel and RE-opened. Since they reopened they now want to charge you $35 for a window seat. What??? They think they are an airline now? We said no thanks we will take a regular table. They then seat us at a window. I said are we paying $35? They said no since it's slow tonight we gave you this table. So you mean if I agreed to pay $35 you would have taken my money? You knew it was slow when you tried to get the $35 out of me. Such a sleazy move. Prices are outrageous enough and now you want to charge more for a seat? The food was good, that was the only decent thing. They use to give you a nice bread basket with different breads and I think corn bread as well. Now, you get nothing. Lastly, the service was ehhh fair. Took longer than I thought it should for a slow night. Also, never came back to refill drinks. I'd say go to City Hall or Steak 44 or other places. It's way over priced and just puts you in a weird space asking to pay $35 more for a window seat. WTF!!! read more

The host even gave us a bouquet of roses as we had a reservation, but we weren't seated until 15 minutes after the reservation but the customer service and food made it worth while. View was great, obviously. Food was pretty standard, overpriced for what it was. IMHO. My main gripe is being nickel and dimed. We paid 50.00 for an outer ring table for the best views. This is not subtracted from your bill, it really is just a charge to have an outer ring table. Okay, okay, we agreed to that. However, it was NOT 50.00. It was 56.55. They added a service charge to the service/table charge! Ridiculous! If you do go, the inner ring views are just as good because when they did the remodel, they raised that ring. You are basically looking over the heads of the suckers who paid FIFTYSIX. FIFTYFIVE! You pay 30.00 for the inner ring, but it is at least subtracted from your bill. read more

If you are looking for an experience and fine dining, I highly recommend The Compass in downtown Phoenix. Not somewhere we could go regularly.($$$) but Wow! It was the caliber of Gordon Ramsey, Paris in Vegas. Amazing food, service and atmosphere. From the moment you make your reservation to end of dinner it is an event. 360° panaramic view of downtown Phoenix that rotates as you dine, amongst the skyscrapers. Sunset even cooperated. Service was wonderful. We reserved for dual birthday celebration. The food was fantastic. The flavors they combined were superb. The staff are excellent and making it a special experience. Daniela was delightful, personable and kept our glasses filled and table clear. Dale checked on us as we sat between courses. Our server, Matt, did everything PERFECTLY. He knew I had a seafood allergy. He knew hubby liked seafood and he brought him shellfish dishes to not put me at risk, but give him special menu. We did Yes Chef where the Chef selects the food for 4 courses. 1st course Mike got a mussel dish with a fantastic chorizo white sauce, I had a balsamic toastini with strawberries and mozzarella. 2nd course Mike had a classic almost Ceasar like salad with Greek olives (no anchovies) I got a burrata (like marscapone, very cold, with a warm tomato based sauce, spinach with another sweet glaze, 3rd, main meal was steak for me with tarro root and broccolini. The sauce and salt they used made my steak like velvet. Mike had scallops with creamy pea sauce, asparagus and tarro chips. Everything was paired with a nice perfect temperatured Reisling. Our server hit our flavor profiles on target like he knew us. For dessert, Mike got a chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla In a candy chocolate shell. Mine was a Japanese fruit that tastes lemony. Sublime. Had a blackberry filling and little dollops of blackberry sauce and meringues with sliced black berries. There was another thing, but I don't know if it was a very light coffee or chocolate dessert. It was very light and flavorful. Our Sous Chef came at the end to check on our experience too. Overall this was one of the best meals/menus we've had. Looking out across Phoenix, the White Tanks, Estrella and Scottsdale was amazing. Ugh. This place. Went here for an anniversary. The view is great but save yourself the price tag or just get gorgeous views with better food at A Different Point of View. Food quality was lacking but customer service concerned me more. Our server has kind but did little to make our experience better. Our dishes took to AN HOUR to come to us and the most we got in exchange was a "there's just one more ticket ahead of you." By the time we got our dishes I wasn't hungry anymore and good thing. The scallops weren't cleaned well, the risotto was SO BLAND AND BORING, and the "bok Choy" was literally just raw and cut up and placed on the plate like a garnish instead of a crucial part of the dish like the menu suggested. I took 90% of it in a take out box, server asked if anything was wrong and we said "I mean... it's fine." Because it wasn't burnt or have a hair it just was.... Okay food but at $55 a plate..... no. We randomly stopped by without a reservation and were welcomed right away. Right when we walked up the views took our breath away. 360° view as the restaurant moves and shows you the whole valley. It was my birthday and we just stopped out for desert and drinks. They were very attentive and brought bread and a drink menu. The drinks were nothing to rave about but weren't bad either. I've been here a couple of times this year. It's worth going exactly one time, maybe. For the view. I remember a few years back they had impeccable service. Now it just ok. Because of the price of food, mediocre service yielded our server a cool $50 tip they didn't earn any more than a Denny's server. Makes me question the whole concept of tipping a percentage of the bill. We waited more than once for water, to order, and for our bill. The food was fine, but not for the price. The only thing that seemed luxurious was the caviar. Everything else was fairly pedestrian. The beet salad was good. Steaks were good. Lobster was meh. 3 people. Two appetizers. Three entrees. 2 Modelos. $363. As much as I want to love this local staple that's been here since I was a kid, I doubt I'll be back much. Service was below average. Food was mediocre. Fellow Yelpers, stop and read this before making reservations. Absolutely, hands down, the WORST dining experience I have ever had since living in Phoenix my entire life. The only positive thing about my experience was the view, and that's where it ends. DO NOT utilize the photos on this Yelp restaurant page, as the menu has been revamped and not a single thing from these photos was on the menu, none, zero. The menu was very limited, only having 5 available entrees to select from, and modifications or substitutions are not permitted. No filet, no pork, nothing that sounded remotely appetizing from the descriptions on the menu. They had 1 beef dish, 1 chicken dish, 1 fish dish, 1 pasta dish, and 1 vegetarian option. The appetizer menu was lackluster, no soup option, and minimal salad selection. Absolutely a minimalistic menu that proved to be a huge disappointment. The first sign of trouble should have been the almost empty dining room, that remained mostly empty the entire time we were there. The service was just as bad, with the wait staff almost rushing us through the experience. The hostess staff on entry was extremely rude and unaccommodating, refusing to sit us until the entire party was present, even though we explained that our friend was in the elevator with a surprise cake for our friends birthday. Yet, they didn't care...causing the surprise of a cake to be wasted, as our friend had to come out of the elevator with cake in hand, thus ruining the element of surprise. If I could rate my overall experience zero stars, I would, but the app will not allow me too. This is my first review that I have ever written like this, as you will notice that I try to see the upside of every dining experience/review I have...but in regards to this one, an identified opportunity or semblance of a positive note was unidentifiable. Again, only the view was appetizing, as that was the only thing I enjoyed about this restaurant. Please make sure to visit the actual website and review the true menu, as this restaurant page and pictures are not reflective of what they actually serve. Really great service, but since there are mixed reviews I'd say it probably depends on your server. We had Jenny who was great! Highly recommend getting a reservation, we saw people get turned away and also some who gave up waiting. Doesn't seem to be a good place for large gatherings, more of a couples or small group setting. Restaurant revolves and I got slightly motion sick but went away after I stopped looking at the moving wall and got food in my system. We got the seafood pasta, scallops appetizer, ribeye steak, and brussel sprouts. Steak and pasta were great, scallops were a bit expensive for what you get. Brussel sprouts were a little burnt so we didn't enjoy them. 3.5 stars for food, 4 stars for service and the views! We also got a free dessert (a vanilla Bundt cake with chocolate, whipped cream, berry syrup) for our anniversary as well. read more

The food and people were great. WARNING: Hyatt/Compass uses Tock to reserve a table in advance ~ $50. The fee supposedly will only be charged if you are a no show. Understandably. When I saw the charge on my credit statement, I spent an hour on hold with Hyatts customer service department who requested a copy of my statement and receipt for the meal. I was informed that it would take about 7 business days to review and I will be contacted afterwards. After 3 weeks I did a follow-up and it was requested that I needed to re-submit the previously submitted information. Afterwards I was informed that I would need to contact Tock for reimbursement - even thought their website stated reservation hold disputes need to be handled with restaurant. After submitting a screenshot Hyatt informed me that I would still need to contact Tock. Tock responded very professionally and timely explaining that the fee is forwarded to Compass and would need to be refunded through them I forwarded the email and after a few days I received an email saying it needs to be handled through Tock. This experience and time spent just to collect $50 has left a poor taste in my mouth. I will no longer be a patron of Compass and will warn my colleagues and friends. So if you have an arm and leg to spare (and a finger and toe too) , go here bc that's what your check will cost you! lol But that cost will be well worth the expense! Luckily, I wasn't the one paying! To start, the view is awesome! Our window table allotted us an eye-catching view of a stunning Arizona night skyline! I looked more at that view than at my bone-in ribeye which was truly delicious and quite giant! (The Béarnaise sauce was disappointing though, so I only used a tiny tad!) The well-seasoned steak - which, yes, could've been just a tad more tender in order to be perfect - was very palatable and was fine without any sauce at all, thankfully. The chef got my ordering specifications (I wanted the ribeye cooked to a state between medium well and medium) just right! Usually, not the case that a chef will meet my specifications so precisely. So kudos, Compass Chef!!! The side of lobster hash was pretty good and quite sizable. The scant pieces of lobster were flavorful components. And speaking of flavorful, the goat cheese and berry fritters -were rich and indeed gourmet quality. Warm, thick goat cheese lava gushes out when you cut into the light crust which I mixed with the berry sauce. Yummm! I only ate a little more than half of the two fritters served because I wanted to make sure I had enough room for my steak which proceeded a basket of assorted warm-from-the-oven, moist rolls (white, rye, nutty,) served with aioli butter which was the creamiest accent to the bread and which made the rolls lovable! I sampled a bit of the seafood ravioli dish (thin pasta sheet topped with king crab, scallops, fish, shrimp and accented with what looked like sautéed fennel). The aftertaste did not suit me. Too bad bc I had had such high hopes due to the menu description. Glad I went with the ribeye steak! It was "uuuge"! The large stuffed chicken dish, ordered by my daughter, was good, and its accompaniment - tender squares of squash - good too - particularly the next day after our visit when she had the leftovers. She said the dee-lishousness really improved after an overnight sit in the fridge. The ambiance is quite prevalent. We dined as our room slowly moved forward on a circular path , allowing us to take in the glamorous night skyline from numerous angles. You can't actually feel the floor moving, but you can see the movement if you watch the table and windows and gauge your location and visual perspective based on the dining room landmarks. Indeed, a very nice, unique touch to fine dining! They really try to give you your money's worth! All three in my party were well impressed! Surprisingly, the staff was very cordial and authentic. Staff members seem quite proud of their restaurant and are very knowledgeable about the dishes, the technology, Phoenix and the surrounding area. Very personable male host, effectual, professional yet sweet server, and mindful attendants. The maître d' was particularly charming. Our awesome waitress gave me tips on sightseeing and on hiking AZ. She pointed out that the South Mountain trails are some of the best. She even gave me info on degrees of difficulty of the various trails on which she and her small lab- terrier-mix frequently travel. That was the personal touch which struck the best balance between reserved elegant dining finery and well-mannered, sociable staff-to-patron engagement. Our questions received thoughtful, detailed, enthused responses. The staff was not overly chatty though but appropriately paced the dispersion of info and reply to our "touristy" comments and queries. I did not expect that type of rapport in a place that looked so conservatively stylish. As I scanned the dining room, I saw other smiling, satisfied patrons who like us were engaged in happy conversation and were just as well attended as we were. Most were dressed in business or business casual, some more formal. (Did see a teen in a hoodie though-who was there with her parents.) There was no temperature taking - thank goodness! Place appears quite sanitized, organized, well-monitored and well managed. (We showed up early for our reservations though) If you're in the Scottsdale or Phoenix areas, and, as I said, have an arm or other limb to spare, make reservations for Compass located on the 23rd floor of the Hyatt, and enjoy the experience!!! Make sure to leave suitable gratuity bc it's well-earned and thus well-deserved! Good food, posh environment, excellent personnel, and a mobile dining floor! After my visit here I thought they were exploiting the spectacular view and adding that into their prices for the meal. I paid 50$ for a reserved window seat for a date and then showed up to the restaurant and it was half empty anyways and very small. Don't pay for the window seat. Total rip-off as is it non refundable and not added to your cost of the meal, which is another story. The meal was good, but not as good as the price point suggested. I've had 15-20$ dishes at upscale restaurants in big cities that changed my idea of fine dining and the dishes here are mediocre at best. Your average steakhouse/fine dining restaurant in your town is serving something similar in flavor profile I promise. The wine list was ridiculous, not a large selection and they sold a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay for 70$ as a high point on their wine list which you can find at your local liquor store for a cool 25$. The view is spectacular and the restaurant is itself very cool as it is revolving the entire time you're eating around Phoenix but once I left I felt like that was all I was paying for, and paying too much for it at that. If they knocked down the prices or upped the quality in wine/food this would be a very reasonable restaurant and I would have nothing bad to say about them as a customer. read more

I swore I would never come back to this place. But we ended up staying at the hotel with the restaurant. We seen that if you want to make reservations now that you pay a refundable 10 dollars per person for lounge seating. Which means not next to window. lol. If you want to sit next to window you have to pay 50 bucks per person I believe, or could be per table ,Non refundable. We waited tell Sunday and just showed up. Place was kinda slow so we didn't have to pay the 50 bucks. lol. We just had an appetizer and a glass of wine for the wife. I tried the desert. Everything was pretty good. The manager came by to talk to use and told us the place was taken over by Hyatt corporation and that a lot has changed. So we might try the dinner again next time we come. So for now I'm upgrading to a three star and after I try dinner again we will see how good this place is now. The whole place has been renovated. New Year's Eve dinner is a fun location and views are great. I made reservation for 2 people a few days prior to New Year's Eve. Some friends wanted to join so I called back to see if I could change our reservation to 4 people and said I knew that would change the time and I was ok with that. She lets me know they're entirely full and are unable to add 2 more. No problem, I understood. We get there and the place is MAYBE, MAYBE half full! There were 3 empty 4 top tables surrounding our 2 top table. That's BAD customer experience. The food was good, but like the other reviews, it's nothing to write home about. It just good food for the price. The negative about the food is their knives cut nothing! You have to saw and saw to get through the Wagyu steak and the Duck, even the poached pear needed a knife. My poor fiancé was sawing his steak and a piece slipped right off his plate onto the floor, like half of his Wagyu just on the floor because of poor equipment. To many good places in the valley to check out. It was good to visit once but we probably won't be back. read more
