This restaurant is amazing! This is my second time coming here. The atmosphere...very dimly lit and very sexy! It's amazing to me how the building spins and you get a great view of the Phoenix city. It looks so beautiful at night. The last time I been here was about a year ago. The service was awesome. One of the hostesses came to my table and said, "I have extra flowers tonight and I'm choosing to give them to you!" I was so happy and it was such a kindhearted thing to do. That started the night off right. I ordered the winter garden salad, truffle fries, the cauliflower as the main entree. For cocktails I had the spiked lemonade which was good and strong. For dessert I ordered the vegan hazelnut chocolate mousse cake. The salad was delicious. The truffle fries were very good and crispy and they give you a good portion. I couldn't eat them all. The cauliflower entree was deff overpriced and very basic. It needed more seasoning and the entree was way too small. The dessert was good but I couldn't finish it as I was already full. The prices here are expensive so be prepared. I love the ambiance more than anything. It's so classy and upscale and I felt comfortable. Let's just start by saying that the best thing about the compass is obviously the views. A slowly rotating top floor of the Hyatt gives you a beautiful 360 degree of the city during your meal. This I will give a 10/10. On to the rest of our experience.... We had a reservation for 7:15 PM on Christmas Day. We arrived at 6:45, slightly earlier than our appointment time but we seated promptly around 7 PM. We were given a window table, which was amazing. We ordered the Burrata and calamari as an appetizer. Burrata 10 out of 10, Calamari 7/10 as the frying level was a bit dark on the calamari. My husband also ordered a salad, which was excellent. My husband, daughter, and I all ordered the prime rib special. Unfortunately, all of our meat came out lukewarm, on the verge of being what we would consider cold, and our potatoes were barely lukewarm. Despite the temperature not being appropriate, the food still had decent flavor. Our son's plate came out several minutes after the three prime rib. Unfortunately, our son ordered the land and sea, and he ordered it medium rare with some pink. The meat came out looking nearly raw, which led us to sending his meal back to have the steak cooked a little bit more. My husband, daughter and I were nearly finished with our meal before he even got his plate. For dessert we ordered the Arizona s'mores brownie, which was more like a dense, frozen chocolate cupcake with a tiny bit of graham cracker crumbs on the plate to accompany it along with some pink cubes of " prickly pear marshmallow" - which was awful tasting. Very unimpressive. My husband ordered the baked Alaska, which was mediocre. Our dinner was $458 for the four of us and other than the amazing views, the food was definitely not worth this price. This is our second time coming back to The Compass. We actually had Christmas Eve dinner here last year as well, and I can confidently say we will not be returning. Super unfortunate. read more

What an incredible space you have all curated : from the glamorous hostess gliding us to our seats to the kind hearted and fun server, Monica. She genuinely cared for us as we rambled on about our wedding this year and choosing our wedding bands and to our surprise there was a beautiful white vase of fresh red roses. We shared everything and loved the Panzanella salad and its circular presentation. So smart. The risotto was wonderful and creamy. The winter salad with its beet chips was also special as they paired it with a light vinaigrette. The blueberry puff pastry as a desert is exquisite as no one really does blueberries in deserts right now and combining it with a chocolate soufflé and cold vanilla ice cream is a beautiful combination. This restaurant is from 1976 and was once a Playboy Club complete with conversation pits that were sadly covered up with new flooring. But the compass era of this space still very much rotates and being born in the 1970s I find this so very special. Thank you everyone, Comoass was one of my favorite restaurant experiences I've ever had and to celebrate our date night here and in the year we were married is an incredible memory for us. Had guests in from out of town and thought this would be a great experience. Wrong. Had a 6:30 reservation this past Saturday evening. Arrived early and they did seat us right away. Good start. Waitress took our drink order of 3 martinis and diet soda. 20 minutes later we still did have the drinks; she said they were on the way. Our appetizer arrived at the 40 minute mark and still no drinks! We asked for the manager. He apologized for the delay and comped the round when they did arrive. Ok. The dinners also took forever to arrive. We had finished our martinis and would have ordered more but the server never checked on us. We were about to just leave but the meals came at the last minute. She apologized for this delay. We ordered 2 martinis. On a positive the food was outstanding. All four of us finished our meals but the 2nd round never arrived, either! We paid the check and left. The manager never came back to check on us. Other tables in our section also complained. The view was nice, one of a kind, the elevator getting up takes like 15-20 minutes to wait in lines during peak times since it has a limited capacity. The food was not even remotely worth the price. Finally, I made it here after seeing it from the freeway for probably 4 decades now. Lol... I'll try and keep this short. The good. The food was phenomenal! Our server was really nice and did a great job of accommodating us throughout the meal, and the prices surprisingly aren't bad for a place like this. The bad. When we arrived, the women's restroom was down one out of two toilets and no paper towels. Yes, there is no way to dry hands. The receptionist was alerted right away, and she really didn't seem to give two shits. I was told that the other toilet started working shortly after, and a few paper towels were also placed in the restroom. Those were gone shortly. Enough about that. I really hate to complain about this next part. We were a party of three couples. We had to ask numerous times to get our checks. When they finally arrived, they weren't even close. Mine only had one entree that wasn't even ours and the others drinks and appetizers, and i guess some of our stuff. I noticed all this later when i got home and could actually see the receipt. We were all ready to go at this time, so we just paid. I also didn't notice that the tip was already included. So there went another 20% I already paid. I've never been anywhere that couldn't keep checks at least halfway straight between three couples. All this aside, I'll tell you what really bothered me. We had to place a deposit of $60 to reserve the table. None of us realized until the next day that it wasn't credited back to any of our bills. What can I say here? The food was freaking terrific, and the view is spectacular, but checking out was ridiculous. I'll give this place another shot, but please make sure all of your staff is washing and drying their hands when cooking and serving people. This is huge for me. read more

Our server Taylor was such a freaking sweetheart and made our experience great! The actual interior of the building rotates and the view is incredible. The food? 20/10 it was the BEST filet I've EVER had. I will say the appetizers (spring bread and Brussel sprouts were sub par like honestly I wouldn't order them again) the s'mores brownie was sooooooooo yummy omg. The entire atmosphere was great. I hate writing not so nice reviews but I also understand how this helps others and the business itself in knowing what is wrong so that they can fix the problem at hand. The food was now good, what do ever. I ordered the mussels, which had so much of the Spanish chorizo that I was no longer able to taste the actual mussel. My husband ordered the pasta and he added chicken to his dish. The chicken was extremely salty and dry, over cooked that it was choking to swallow. We also decided to order the truffle fries. They were over cooked and did not taste anything like truffle what so ever. The service was good but we will never go back for over priced disgusting food. This is definitely the best ambiance in the valley for dining. 360 views. Excellent! Seems they are making an effort to have vegan items but they are not quite there yet. We got the hummus appetizer which was underwhelming. The quinoa salad was ok. The beet salad had cheese on it even though that is not marked as an ingredient on the menu. The vegan eggplant lasagna was more like a half of a roasted eggplant piled with tons of beyond sausage and some sauce and vegan cheese. The food overall was underwhelming. They seemed busy and short staffed at 6pm on a Saturday night. There were lots of times when we needed something and no one was around. Dinner took 2+ hours. Starting with the good, the view is absolutely beautiful. Love being able to see the city from all angles. As for the food, the flavor was really good. Service is where it really went downhill. We went on a Wednesday night when it was not very busy. Despite that, it took very long to get our food. We had our drinks and of course finished those before the meal arrived. I came here for my very first time a couple a days after Mother's Day to celebrate my mom. She and I both loved the place. We couldn't get enough of the spectacular view. I booked a reservation to have stable near the window we have a better experience watching downtown Phoenix with the sunset/sundown. Our server Sheryl was absolutely amazing! The server was so bad she had us sitting for over 45 minutes trying to split the check and did incorrect. If she couldn't split a check, she could of returned after 10 minutes and we would just did it on card if she was unable to do it. I will never go back to this restaurant. Came here with my husband for 10 year anniversary. We got the Chef's Choice meaning the chef picked our three course meal with the dessert amazing food. I'm normally a picky eater, but because we were celebrating something special, we chose to do the chef choice. The service was great. We were a little overdressed, but it was amazing for that occasion it was worth it, it was a little bit cold in there but overall we definitely will go again. I forgot to take a picture of our drinks, but even that was super great. Will definitely recommend this place. I've maybe given one star reviews on an actual business twice in my life... but I'm truly doing this so people stop wasting their money on this place. I went there for the first time 5 years ago... I remember the food being awful. They solely rely on the views and neglect their food. Last night my boyfriend wanted to surprise me with a nice dinner. He said he had made Rez there and I immediately said no, no let's go somewhere else. Well, he then informed me he had already spent $80 non-refundable. $60 on Rez and $20 to purchase a single rose for the table. So sweet and kind but I was sweating knowing he had wasted his money. I did want to give them the benefit of the doubt. Wrong of me. We get there for our Rez time and have to wait 15 mins... Rez was at 8:30. Ok, it's Saturday. Places are busy. We get our table... over 22 mins go by. No ones talked to us, not even a busser to bring water. I have to flag down a server to ask if we have a waiter. He profusely apologizes (not his fault he's not our server) and gets us a sparkling water and puts in calamari apps and burrata. He was so sweet. our apps finally come after 30 mins, now we've been there for an hour- they were very subpar. The calamari batter isn't light and airy like you'd expect at fine dining more thick and low quality fish more like tgifridays. No shade as you usually expect certain quality pertaining ton price point. The burrata was around 25$ with two small slices of bread. Our server finally comes to introduce himself. I know I'm not ordering an entree to waste more money here so I get the small plate shrimp and grits, he gets gnocchi. Shrimp and grits not edible. You get three little over cooked, over-seasoned shrimp on a pile of grits with a ton of this red pepper sauce which is more like a soup. Gnocchi is ok. They should be 90% potato and- no they're just not. So now another hour has gone by. Server never once asks how our food is- never seen him again. We desperately want to leave so I go up to the hostess stand and ask- how can we pay. Insane- $60 to come here to have to ask over and over for help. You get better service at zipps (which by the way I love) but they charge nothing and let you just walk in. The server after another 10 mins drops the check (it's past 10p) and says sorry- I took off your calamari. Don't believe these influencers who are getting paid to tell you to eat here. Phoenix has so many amazing places to dine for various price points that won't rob, or disappoint you read more

Gone are the information plaques, nice seating, and delicious food. Replaced with generic tables and a boring menu. Not one thing we had we enjoyed. Let's chat about this for a second ... as an Italian girl, there is not parmigiana about this dish. It's a eggplant steak smothered in meatless sausage (which was great) huge tomato's (which was really just filler) and a ton of sauces. Said it came with vegan mozzarella which I didn't see on the plate at all. Was it tasty? YES! Is it something I would ever order again, no. My husband ordered the seafood pasta, said it was good but didn't eat the squid pasta, didn't care for that. We order the charcuterie board ... missing the jelly it said it came with and the cheese was okay ... not very flavorful but my husband loved the meat. Bread didn't seem fresh, seemed stale or defrosted. Very dense. The views are spectacular, the waitress did a great job until the very end. We sat with dirty dishes for a long time ~ Bus staff came through often to refill water but never asked about the dirty dishes. It was a lovely experience .. we may bring people who come into town to visit. We were incredibly full from the cheese plate and our meals so we originally passed on our anniversary dessert but she offered to have us take it to go so we did that and it was yummy. Things this restaurant has going for it: neat ambiance, cool views and great staff. The negatives: it is extremely overpriced for fairly mediocre food. I absolutely understand that the novelty of a rotating, high floor restaurant is going to mean they can charge higher prices. But I wish the elevated floor would have also elevated the quality of the food and drinks considering the price. I enjoyed my experience, but my bill was around $50 for just a drink and appetizer. There wasn't anything "wrong" with my food or drink, they were fairly tasty. But considering the price I expected a more elevated experience or possibly a larger portion. If you visit here, know that you'll have a fun experience but a fairly mediocre food quality considering the price. read more

I reserved a window table ($50) for an anniversary dinner. Great view and table. I ordered a rose ($15) to be one the table. It was in a vase but the flower was wilting. Disappointed. I ordered Surf and Turf ($90) and got two small scallops and a bone in ribeye that was half fat that I trimmed. Disappointed. My wife got the filets, there were two that were excellent. We had two drinks and the bill was almost $300 including the window seat cost and rose. It was an anniversary dinner. The server took our dessert order for brownie sundae and also brought another dessert with a candle. Set reservations for 5:30pm paid deposit for a window seat for my boyfriends birthday - didn't get seated until almost 6pm and window seat was a table of 4 and when I asked if they had any of the two seat tables I seen walking up available the lady told me no. The small plate Brussel sprouts were amazing - the calamari here I wasn't a fan of but the sauce it came with was amazing. The drinks were amazing the jalapeño watermelon was amazing and my boyfriend loved his old fashion whisky drink. The ribeye meal I ordered was a good amount of food but I asked for medium well and I received medium rare, it took a while to get our entries so I didn't want to send it back but I didn't eat close to any of the steak for this reason. My boyfriend got the chicken, the waiter informed us it was amazing which it indeed was good but the portion was so small and it just came with one small chicken breast cut in half, and one side. This was kind of disappointing Since it was for his birthday, I expected him to be able to have a big meal especially for the price. I asked about a steak photo I seen on yelp and she informed me they no longer have that and the steaks they have are half the size of that one. I was bummed. Seems the portions have decreased but the prices are still the same. The view was amazing - I did think the rotation would be a little faster, it was really slow and didn't constantly move. Also the amount of people waiting in the lobby was insane, I believe they overbook and the time you book for you don't get a table for about 20-30 minutes. The packed lobby made it awkward when you had to go to the restroom. The birthday dessert was amazing - but it did take a while for them to bring it out for it to be such a simple dish. I had higher expectations for this restaurant, that's why I chose it over many others and did the $50 deposit for the window seat. So they did a remodel and RE-opened. Since they reopened they now want to charge you $35 for a window seat. What??? They think they are an airline now? We said no thanks we will take a regular table. They then seat us at a window. I said are we paying $35? They said no since it's slow tonight we gave you this table. So you mean if I agreed to pay $35 you would have taken my money? You knew it was slow when you tried to get the $35 out of me. Such a sleazy move. Prices are outrageous enough and now you want to charge more for a seat? The food was good, that was the only decent thing. They use to give you a nice bread basket with different breads and I think corn bread as well. Now, you get nothing. Lastly, the service was ehhh fair. Took longer than I thought it should for a slow night. Also, never came back to refill drinks. I'd say go to City Hall or Steak 44 or other places. It's way over priced and just puts you in a weird space asking to pay $35 more for a window seat. WTF!!! read more
