I visit the buffet at River rock pretty often with my 8 year old daughter. She loves it mostly because of the desserts and mashed potatoes. I come mostly for the crab legs which are sometimes amazing and sometimes it seems like they have been sitting too long and too salty. They also have a small sushi selection, soups, salads, carving station and drink machine. My visits here range from 2 star to 5 star basically depending on the quality of the crab legs. read more

Quantity over Quality. Went to the River Rock Buffet for the first time tonight with my Girlfriend and my Father, and to be honest I have had a lot better. If you can get in before 7pm, they offer a 25% discount, which makes me not complain so much as it was less than $20 for a pretty amazing spread, however it was definitely Quantity over Quality. Lets start off where I did: the Salad bar, it was not too shaby, all the regulars plus a few nice additions, like a mushroom salad plus a Waldorf salad were nice. On to the feature of the night: "Sushi" let's just say, I have had much better Sushi for $2 a roll. Then on to the main course section. Going in, it looks really Amazing, upon further examination, I noticed all the Chinese food did not look good at all, so I did not try any of it, The Ribs were OK at best, they kind of tasted like they were sitting a while, however the Prime Rib was spectacular. On to the best part of the night, the dessert bar, it was also Amazing to look at but, once you went in, and ate most of the stuff, you would be disappointed if you were served this in a restaurant. Most of the pie's & cakes tasted like they came out from a frozen box, however their Yogurt & Tiramisu was very nice. Overall, for the price point, it wasn't bad, but I would be disappointed if I paid anything more than $20 for this. read more

I've been here twice in the last two months and both times they had a different food theme. In February they were serving AYCE Ramen in three flavours: vegetable, seafood, or beef. I got the beef which came with a tender piece of bone-in beef but the broth was not very flavourful. That being said I am a sucker for variety, it doesn't matter what's being served as long as I've got lots of options (the lesser of two evils kind of thing here). You could choose from 4 different kinds of noodles, 3 soup bases and a boat load of condiments like seaweed, sesame seeds, soya sauce etc.. We went again in March when the theme had changed to Thai and again the table was covered in great condiments like Thai pesto, mustard seed rice wine vinegar, peppers, lemons etc.. The food at the Thai table wasn't as good as I would have hoped for apart from some amazing coconut rice and a kind of curry seafood paella with tender scallops and prawns, nothing overcooked. Apart from the themed food they seem to have the same selection of foods on any given night. Here is the list of everything I can remember: There is an Asian section which I have not tasted yet so I can't comment. Ice cream freezer filled with small containers of vanilla or chocolate ice cream, orange sorbet, and lots of popsicles. Mashed potatoes, chicken strips, fries, big salad bar with spinach, iceberg lettuce, mixed greens, a few different kinds of cheese like feta and blue, a few different kinds of dressings (which were different on my February and March visits). Giant. GIANT dessert table. The thing is like 10 feet long and filled with homemade marshmallows, cookies, meringues, puddings, tarts, cakes. They are all delicious. So for service, you will have a designated server when you are shown to your table and this person will refill your water and provide you with refillable tea or coffee as well as clearing your plates. Keep your utensils with you! For some reason they don't bring new cutlery when they take away your plates although I'm sure they would have if we had asked. We just took some from another table (eek! are we bad people?) I think this place is worth a try for anyone wanting to have AYCE and play a few games of blackjack afterwards. And anyone who loves dessert. I may be pandering to a very small minority here... read more

I made plans to brunch with a small group on Saturday. They failed. Here's why. If you called a couple days ahead, would you expect to make a reservation? They failed. If promised seating for people in line before 11:30, would you expect service? They failed. If all of the seating was actually reserved for a conference, would you expect to be told? They failed. If you checked ahead of time, would you expect notice on the website or signage? They failed. If you asked what happened, would you expect the hostess to politely explain? They failed. If told to wait for the manager, would you expect one to eventually come? They failed. read more

Review for Monday dinner. OK it's not the same as a Vegas buffet. There was a good variety of salads, soup, asian, north american, pasta station and a beef carving station. lots to choose from at the desert table too. The quality was better than average however not as good as Wynn's in Vegas. Attentive service as the plates were picked up quickly. Hey you're not in Vegas get over it. Came here for the breakfast, and it was very underwhelming to say the least. The selection is tiny. Do yourself a favour, skip the sausages. They were so rubbery it felt like I was chewing on a tube of tires, flavour was a bit off as well. The bacon and coffee were decent. But then again, for less than $15 per person, it's expected. read more

I just came back from this buffet and I have to say that I do not recommend it at all. I forgot to take a photo, but believe me when I say this....there were clusters of brown bugs or parasites on the crab legs. The juice (except for the cranberry one) tasted pretty bad. I took the liberty of trying out every one. The fruits were soggy as well. I think I'm going to be sick. Definitely not worth the price. I'm pretty surprised it's still in business despite its obvious hygienic concerns. read more

I've had breakfast buffets much worse than this one! Be aware that this is a bit pricey especially considering casino food is usually cheaper than $16.50. Although I don't know if the river rock is a 3 or 4 star, but anyway a "buffet" doesn't exactly scream 5 star dining. The food selection is immense. I remember at least three large islands with pretty much any standard breakfast items you can think of, and the quality is good any and all. You can even make your own eggs Benny! read more

I have been to the River Rock Casino buffet for breakfast on 2 occassions. I don't understand why there are such negative reviews of this buffet River Rock Casino buffet provides a comfortable, clean, upscale environment with friendly servers. The breakfast buffet was a nice spread had an omellete or hot station as well as some choices of chinese food even congee. The salad bar was impressive fresh and nicely displayed. The desserts were quite wonderful and even had a chocolate fountain. For the price I paid, I think River Rock Casino deserves a good rating. Please remember these are quite reasonable prices when compared to Vegas or downtown hotel buffets. For that reason, I give River Rock Casino 2 thumbs up. read more

The good.... Like the casino, the dining room is modern, spacious; with a scenic view of the Fraser River. Our group of 12 was seated quickly since we had a reservation. The desserts were the culinary highlight of the buffet. The shrimp wontons were soft & delicious. My 14 year old niece loved the baked macaroni & cheese because it was coated with bread crumbs. She also liked the fried rice although it was a bit spicy hot. The bad... The line for the hot food was very long. We waited at least 15 minutes to choose from the unexpectedly few selections of hot food. They should have had at least 2 lines for self service. The "ice cream" tasted more like cake icing than ice cream. The chicken fingers were more batter than chicken. Almost all the rest of the food was forgettable. For the price I expected more food selection, & better quality. read more

Couldn't find anything worth eating on a weekday dinner buffet. Their hot food or rather warm-ish food was worst than your food court variety. Dessert was passable, if you don't have standards. My mom thought their best dish was the wasabi peas that was probably store bought. Definitely not worth $30 and the 90 minute seating restrictions. Come at your own discretion. read more

This place has a lot of options and a great view, but the food just alright (the beef slice and sea food are great and the desserts are yummy, but the salad bar and dim sum choices leave a lot to be desired). It's still a great place to go for the atmosphere and if you have a family that has a wide variety of taste preferences. I would not go on a holiday weekend however, as it can be incredibly busy to the point that you have to wait in line for 5 minutes to get to the food. The service is fine when not on a holiday weekend, but the staff basically ignore you if your a small table and it's a packed house. read more

A decent deal Sunday evenings, food is ok, enough items to choose from to stuff yourself. Won't say it's an incredible selection or anything. Would be nicer to have better cooked fish options but hey, it's a buffet. It's not like I won't be back but I won't be wanting to go back. read more

I've been to The Buffet few times over last 3 years. Unfortunately, the quality of food has gone down and it's not worth paying for it. I see many of the customers have coupons from the casino which give them free meals. That's maybe alright, but if you are paying customers, it's better to go somewhere else. It's definitely not worth what they charge for (around $40, depending on weeknight dinner or weekend dinner). The service is ok, but it tends to be on a slower side. read more

Found a feather in my pasta dish. Advised one of the servers. She came back a few minutes later amd didn't seem to care about the substandard dish. She asked me if it ruined my dinner. We decided to come here on a Saturday night when it was their surf and turf night. Before we arrived at the casino, we signed up for the Encore Rewards card to get 5$ off the dinner price. At around 630pm, there was quite a long line. They served lemonade to everyone in the line waiting. Once we get to the register, we got seated right away. Since we came for the prime rib and the seafood, we had a lot of the cocktail shrimp, clams and mussels. The prime rib was delicious and they give you a decent size every time. I tried a little bit of everything and everything was not bad for a buffet. Usually buffets get a lot of bad reviews, but when you come to a place like this, you cant expect top quality. There was a large variety of desserts however the ice cream in the freezer was only okay. Tasted like the cheap ice cream you would get at the grocery store but I still ate it lol. I had a bite of every dessert and although not all were the tastiest, there were a couple I took seconds of. Despite being beyond full immediately after 2 plates of food and 2 plates of desserts, I would definitely go back! read more

We went to the River Rock Buffet for dinner, be aware the line up gets really long so be sure to go early. The cost of the buffet is $40 without an Encore Card, and $36 if you do have one. The highlight of the buffet for us was the crab. We wouldn't say the crab was top notch in terms of quality but it's decent. If you want your money's worth just load up on the crab. Stay away from the Chinese food, we wouldn't recommend the sashimi section either as the fish did not taste fresh. The roast beef was decent, although it was quite fatty. The ribs were nothing to write home about either. However, we did enjoy the desserts, our favourite being the crème brûlée. People eat at buffets for the quantity of food, not quality, and the River Rock holds true to that. Don't expect great food but if you can eat three or four plates plus dessert it's probably worth it. We wouldn't wait in line for more than fifteen minutes though. read more

Ok I'm going to have to state this very clearly. This place is terrible. I got a stomach ache after eating the seafood. There is no good selection of food for a buffet and every thing is ether stale or very unseasoned. I regret wasting the money and the time used coming here. The beef is unseasoned/rough, the clams reeks of fishy odor, and everything else is less than satisfactory. The only reason why I'm giving this one star is because the deserts and french fries are alright. read more

Came here on a Sunday for brunch and in my opinion it was honestly really good. They have your usual breakfast food (eggs benny, omelettes that they make for you and you choose which toppings to put, waffles, bacon, hash browns etc) and also had Asian food like shanghai chow mein, siu mai, fried rice. Surprisingly, they even had some sushi there. Service was amazing. Servers were very attentive towards us. I usually come here for lunch, and their lunch is pretty good too. Similar foods to their brunch, only thing is there's no breakfast food. read more

We decided to check out the RiverRock Casino as eating is a huge part of our going to a casino in any city. Of course the level of expectations are always modeled after Las Vegas so I was expecting to see the line up on par. The Buffet is located on the second floor and has a nice hallway entry. There was a line of about 30 guest waiting to get in so though that was a good sign. Upon entry, there was the asian line up of food which contained the basic chinese entrees but mainly all dried up and not appetizing at all. Along the two other sides were the salad and dessert selections which are mediocre at best. They had another section set up with folding tables and hot chafing trays which contained more main entrees. All of them looked like it was rifled through and very apparent that they were not tending and refilling the line. Being that Richmond and Vancouver is a great foodie location, I highly suggest that you save your appetite and go somewhere else to satisfy that hunger. read more

Went there mid-week. Greeted by some unhelpful grumpy Filipino lady. This is the first person we're supposed to see?!?! Really? Disappointing selection at buffet table. There was about 10 of us and we all found the food to be disappointing. If you're going to serve shrimp, remove the poop vein! NOPE! Poop all there in the shrimp. SO GROSS!!!! Amateurs! Mussels were 90% unopened so inedible. The ones that were opened tasted funny. Spat it out and didn't bother with the disgusting mussels. TEENY TINY Clams were mostly shells with no clam meat inside. The roast was overdone. Meat was very chewy & non-flavourful. Asian food section was just awful. Fries were disgusting. Sushi ran out and nobody bothered to refill it. When asked about it, there was the super grumpy Filipino chef(?) that barked "HE's getting to it". SO RUDE!!! Had the dessert & ice cream. It's about the only thing that didn't make us gag. It appears it was not made by the grumpy in-house chef (I use the term Chef loosely for him), so it was edible. This review only received the star because we had a really nice Vietnamese waitress (Christine? forgot her name), which was a nice change from the rest of the grumpy staff. If it wasn't for her, this review would get no stars. Overpriced buffet for the quality or lack of quality and lack of variety. BTW, I got diarrhea after eating here and another person from my table vomited. Maybe from the seafood? Don't know, but really bad tummy ache. read more

It took us 4 days to get a reservation. FOUR DAYS. No one picked up the phone. We called. and called. and called. We finally had to call the hotel to figure out why. By the time we did get a real human on the other line, the only thing left was for 5pm (Sat. night). Haven't been yet (though we have been before) but not expecting it to improve dramatically. This place is a bit of a madhouse with what I am estimating as over 500 people having been seated at one time but well worth it, if only for the seafood. The king crab legs are incredible - moist, juicy and delicious and the mussels and clams are cooked in a light and tangy broth. The sushi station was a surefire hit but stay away from the grumpy sushi chef who spent all night either grimacing or barking at people who took too long to pour their soy sauce. The dessert station is sad, and the salad is nothing to write home about. If you're a carnivore, there are 3 different types of animals being carved up for your meat-eating pleasure. The "Chinese" food was pathetic and even that is an overstatement - noodles soaked in oyster sauce and barely-battered calamari rolled in five-spice coated my tongue for a while, but there was nothing that a ludicrously-expensive drink didn't wash down. Go if you're craving shellfish- everything else only disappoints. read more

Really an unfortunate experience from start to finish. It was the last day that family was visiting with us and we had heard great things from a few different people about the Buffet. We drove out for lunch at 1;30pm (lunch ends at 2;30pm). This location is NOT ideal for anyone with physical challenges unless you have accompanying people to assist. We drove up to the valet area to ask the best entry point for someone who didn't walk well. They directed us to drive to the end of the road and their would be some wheelchair parking spaces but that they didn't think we would get one. The road was one-way so for each of the 3-times we approached them we had to drive in a large circle on each occasion. It should be noted that at NO point did they suggest stopping in one of the MANY MANY open Valet spots that were directly across from the entrance even though we were just there for lunch. Having a physical disability can be very hard to navigate and asking for help can be further uncomfortable but asking and being refused well... we probably should have just left but we persevered as it's far and we were hungry and expected a pleasant meal to smooth things over. At the entrance to the restaurant Buffet we were made to wait while two staff spoke amongst themselves about one being slightly lost even though They were told that my mother was having difficulty standing while they spoke. The clerk then directed her to a seat and I stood there at the register awaiting their finishing so that I could pre-pay for the Buffet. The host could not accommodate a seat that was a short walking distance from the food with any view so we took the longer distance to gain having a view. At this point I should mention that any number of fine establishment servers have offered to assist my mom with carrying food- but that was not the case here even among the 2 people that took turns at our table clearing and pouring coffee/tea. Now on to the food at last- or so we hoped. What we found was a collection on dried out offerings that spoke to folks wanting to wrap up their shift more so than honouring the buffet hour. My son had to ask for something to be heated that was cold and the warming stations had sadly overcooked what might have been some delicious salmon and chicken and beef. Even the roasting stations ham was a dry offering. Their were 5 soup choices and all were very hot and flavourful but in an effort to safeguard against waste the bowls offered were the size of a small teacup (not even a mug). Juice, pop, frozen treats and desserts were part of the buffet. The salad bar was a nice collection of veg and a few fruits (strange that they offered fake walmart style powdered parmesan instead of real). Anyway we finished up and although the experience left much to be desired at least it gave us the rare opportunity to agree with each other in that we each thought it was not worth the trip and something to avoid repeating. read more

Boy were we disappointed. I've been here a few times, mostly on Sundays. We decided to dine there on a Saturday. It quickly turned into a whine and dine the moment we arrived. We got there at 7 p.m. The lineup was long, extending into the hallway. First thing I saw (because we always seize on the negatives) was a pile of discarded food on the floor, empty plastic glasses everywhere and small bits of garbage. Harrumph. I took off, leaving my friend in the lineup and told a crew member of the mess. Nothing. She nodded her head and left. I tried again. This time I was more insistent. I walked a man and woman down to the table and chair in the lobby and pointed. She was polite and thanked me over and over. We finally got in around 7:35. We got a table then went off to grab our plates. The salad bar was lousy. Cucumber salad covered in a gloop of mayonnaise. Potatoes in a bath of the same thing. Artichokes choked in vinegar. Last was a bowl of dried spinach. That's it?? "Yes" said a smiling waitress. The roast beef was too rare. I had them fire it up to: "medium well done please" I said to the dead-eyed roaster. It came back tough as Clint Eastwood's boots. The mashed potatoes were too watery. The lamb was baa - aaad, drowning in a too-hot sauce of some kind. Desserts were 'okay'. They had this green spongy brillo pad of a mint treat. Some treat. Boring. I could've sucked on a mint candy and gotten more of a mint flavor. Cookies. Dull and too small. Honey, you pay $40 dollars per person you want a cookie the size of a toilet seat and soft, not hard as the casino chairs. The little pastries were wonderful looking. Very colorful. But we passed them up owing to our want to keep our hourglass figures (we were two guys). Sundays have always been good. This was abysmal. read more

Food is slightly above average, not bad but not awesome, but good enough. Breakfast is a better bang for your buck than dinner. For the dinner, we went to the lobster and prime rib night. The prime rib was awesome but the lobster was just okay. It's served cold so it wasn't what I had expected (but I still had 3!). Breakfast had a chef making personalized omelettes and Belgium waffles which were both excellent. They also had Chinese dishes like congee and dim sum items. Sushi will be out at 4 pm. We pOke around and get a plate. Meanwhile serving staff is changing tables around. While people are going up. After my plate I start feeling not good. My partner finishes . I can't eat any more I'm feeling sick , I go to the store in the lobby and get some tums and come back.we both leave he stops in the lobby he's feeling sick. Two trips to the bathroom and he has to sit for 30 mins. I'm on the casino. Floor gagging and dry heaving. After 40 mins of my partner sitting. He says we're ready to go. We get in another 35$ cab ride back down. I'm gagging and dry heaving burping. We get home I get out and puke in the bushes outside my house. We spend 180$ to feel sick and puking . Yesterday, my mother took me, my partner and his mother out for the Thanksgiving brunch buffet at the River Rock Casino Resort. We'd not been before and had heard good things about it and were looking forward to the change. We all agreed that there was one big negative about the experience but that after that, all was quite positive. We had an 11:30am reservation and had requested a table by the window. We were seated on time and by the window as arranged so no issues there. What is unfortunate, though, is the first impression that customers receive upon entry. If you've not been before, you'll find the setup quite odd. You come in to an attractively decorated wide hallway with a counter at the end and cashiers. In a very businesslike and frenzied fashion with no real "hello" or "welcome" or any sort of nicety, your payment is processed up front and then you are ushered down another hall to a podium where a hostess then takes care of you. The hostess was very gracious and welcoming and all through the lunch, all of the staff were great. Very attentive with coffee, tea, clearing plates away quickly and so on. A couple of them asked how our lunch was etc... So, once you get past that cold first impression, all is great but that first impression did leave a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. Truly, that first part felt a bit like going through customs! If the cashiers are too busy to be welcoming and gracious, then what they need to do is to have a host/hostess right at the front as the first point of contact to welcome you, explain the payment-up-front procedure and then usher you on to the payment desk. That way, you feel welcomed and you're prepared for this odd set up. The variety of food was impressive and no complaints re: the quality. Very tasty, impressive dessert selection, good coffee etc... I have just one other improvement to suggest. When you line up at a buffet, your plate usually consists of all breakfast items or all lunch items but not usually a mix of both. I started with a plate of breakfast items and then went back with a fresh plate for just lunch items. On one side they have a section of just breakfast items which was fine but the same line up that had the turkey, potatoes, stuffing, etc... (lunch items) had breakfast items at the start (waffles and omelets). This meant that people just wanting to get to the turkey, stuffing and potatoes had to wait behind a bunch of people selecting waffles and waiting on the preparation of their omelets so by the time you get to the turkey, your other hot items have cooled off. I would strongly suggest that they combine all the breakfast items in one line and all the lunch items in another. The salad items being on their own is a very good system. All in all, we had a very nice time. Lovely table, beautiful view, genuinely friendly and attentive staff and very tasty food. The only thing holding me back from giving five stars is that terrible and hurried first impression of pay now, eat later. Derek read more

Not bad, I give this venue 3 stars. I will return again, just for the lobsters. We really made sure we ate as much lobster as possible to get our money's worth. My advice is to get there early, we got there at 9pm on a Friday night so we only had an hour to eat. Therefore, we ate as fast as possible. We were still there at 10:30pm (half an hour past closing time, and the waitress and waiters were at our table, literally taking food and cups out of our hands to shoo us out, lol). They were nice about it and it was pretty funny. The food isn't super excellent, but the selection and variety is nice. However, all I had was mostly lobsters and some dessert, so I can't comment too much about the food. The creme brulee is great though! I think they serve lobsters on Fridays, and crabs on Saturdays, I'm not 100% sure. Anyway I will make a return trip to this place, and will come early and sample some more varieties so I can update this post! read more

Giving River Rock a passing grade for this buffet because there are "not many buffets in the GVR" shouldn't fly. Crap food is still crap food, no? And comparing this to Vegas is simply unfair. River Rock is a wanna-be casino anyways that doesn't even serve complimentary drinks and has no club (Lulu's lounge, puleeze). But I guess it gets the "It's better than nothing" award. Anyways... The bacon was disgusting and dry, the pancakes and French toast were out of a box, the eggs were from a liquid carton and the hashbrowns were terribly oily and rubbery. The only good thing this $15 breakfast buffet had going for itself was some fresh cut fruits, basic cheese platter, and fresh toast-it-yourself bread, and a Minute Maid juice machine. If you don't care about your health this place can fill you up with artery clogging crap. If you don't care about money you can drink juice and eat fruit, cheese, and toast for $15. read more
