Satay beef rice noodle
Eric C.

After seeing a tv commercial for this place, my parents wanted to check it out cause they featured some special dishes that we hadn't tried before. Their location has a lot of parking in the strip mall and side streets. Inside, it's spacious and clean, being a fairly new place I expected as much. For 1 pm on a Saturday, it wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly. We ordered the salted egg seafood fried rice and satay beef rice noodle. The fried rice was nicely dry and each rice grain was coated with salted egg yolk. There was a good amount of seafood and there was a spicy kick, but the salted egg flavour wasn't very strong. The rice noodle came hot and loaded with beef and bell peppers. Flavourful, it was not too satay-ey but enough to know that was the intended flavour. The portion size was fair and we were full. The standout was the hot milk tea that came with our meals. It was silky smooth and had a good milk to tea ratio. One of the better milk teas I've had in Vancouver. One thing was that even though it was 25°C in the summer, they didn't turn on the AC so it was quite hot. It became a bit unbearable for my dad half way through our stay and we asked them to turn it on. Overall, I'll probably visit again and try their dinner dishes.

I bet everyone has a "go-to" restaurant on their list when they actually don't know where to go for a quick bite, Lucky Joy is my "go-to" joint! I can't even remember how long we have been dining at this restaurant, must be at least over 25 yrs!! Ya scary right? But throughout the years (even though they changed hands once) the food is still honest, no hassle kind of dependable food, consistency has always been their strong point here! This is also my go-to takeout restaurant whenever I have renovations or anything that would prevent me from using my own kitchen. So what do you say about the food? Good portion, reasonable price and fast service! Free parking at the strip mall (by the way LA Chicken is right next door!) Lucky Joy is like an old friend that would not say no to you whenever you need an extra hand!

King Crab

This restaurant has the freshest king crab I've ever had! The meat is so sweet and comes out in pieces, and the price is so worth it. I definitely recommend coming here.

The 2 dish is now $69 and add lobster is still $25. We went on Thursday almost closing time. The food was fantastic. The noodles with lobsters has wok hei which makes the noodles taste so flavorful. It's different from prior visit. Lobster was decent size and taste fresh. The salt and pepper shrimp are so tasty as usual. Finally, the sweet and sour fish on hot plate is delicious. So glad we came again this time.

This is a hole in the wall type neighborhood family style restaurant. Super crowded with mediocre service. The food was authentic with sizable portion. Decent price and Kid friendly. It's good to try if you are in the neighborhood. We had honey garlic ribs, pea vines and lobster. We enjoyed it.

No frills restaurant serving Hong Kong style fare. It's a bit off the beaten path near Cambie and No. 5 Rd, but this place can get crowded during dinner time. Parking can be an issue as the parking lot in front of the restaurant is small. People don't go to this place for the decor or the ambiance; they come to this place because they can get food that taste just as good but costs less than the fancier restaurants. We got the 3 dish combo which includes soup, and we paid an extra $25 for ginger and scallion Dungeness crab. The crab was big and meaty, and tasted great. For the rest of the dishes, the beef and eggplant was the best out of the bunch. The both the eggplant and beef pieces were fried to a point that they were just a little crispy on the outside but plenty of moisture on the inside. We also got the steamed chicken on lotus leaf and bean sprouts, and those were good. No complains about the included soup either. Whole thing was about $100, which is not that expensive for a meal that included a whole crab.

Lucky Joy BBQ Restaurant (Chinese). Well, everything tasted fresh, but under-seasoned. The chicken soup was pleasant; the broth was light but fresh. Not much else to say; although if you're unaccustomed to *really* Chinese (in this case, Cantonese) cuisine, you may be surprised to see chicken feet in it. Don't worry, that's normal. The "dau miu" (snow pea tips) were actually pretty good; nice leafy texture without much sinewiness that comes from vegetables that are past their best before date. However they didn't pick out all the stringy fibres, so it was as enjoyable as say Kirin, who serves only the cream of the crop. The scallions and ginger cold chicken (yes, cooked but then chilled chicken is a staple of Chinese cuisine) was slightly better than most, because they served it in a hot oil with soy sauce; at least it was warm. Which unfortunately also meant that the white meat became overcooked and a bit bland if not eaten quickly. Now what I actually looked forward to: the lobster. Again, quite good: perfectly cooked, but slightly under seasoned. We finished with the soy halibut with tofu in claypot. This was unexpectedly good; so good that we inhaled before we remembered to take a picture. Perfectly cooked, but be warned, not filleted: I spent almost as much time spitting out bones as eating it. While this isn't *my* kind of food, I appreciate the fact that everything was fresh. There are more intensely flavoured Cantonese restaurants nearby, but if you're looking for something that tastes like a fresh, home-cooked Cantonese meal, you could do a lot worse. Service was also pretty good, and their HK style iced lemon tea hits the spot. Recommended: halibut clay pot, lobster, HK iced tea. Avoid: fish bones. 3.5 stars, 6.8/10

Another nice and simple Chinese restaurant located in Richmond. The place is pretty plain and simple inside - not too much decorations. They have a special where if you order 3 items from the special section of the menu you can add on a full lobster for additional $20. We ordered this stir fried beef with bitter melon, braised beef in a clay pot,a soy sauce ginger chicken, and the lobster. The food all came out pretty quickly. They even give you a complimentary soup, rice in a nice thermo too keep warm, and a complimentary dessert soup at the end (almost like an egg flower soup). The beef with bitter melon was really good (you have to like bitter melon) along with the chicken. The braised beef was very tender and easy to eat.

This is a good place I love coming to for lunch because of their portion, price and taste. They have such a nice variety from baked goodies, to rice dishes to even pasta dishes. They even have a lot of dinner options! * Baked pork chop with fried rice ($11) ~ This didn't have a load of cheese or any cheese on top. But very fragrant in tomato flavour. The Porkchop is very nicely seasoned and baked. Super crispy under the tomato sauce. The rice is nice too perfectly cooked. This dish takes longer to prepare so if your in a rush id go with another option. * Ying yang fried rice (I don't recall price but I believe it was $14) ~ THIS IS A STEAL. The portion is huge, and so worth it. The sauce is so good tomato is very flavourful ad the cream is smooth and rich. Really love getting this dish here. 100% recommend this! Good to share. * 9.5/10 ~ I love the ying yang fried rice so much, and baked rice I wish there was cheese on the baked rice, but the flavours regardless was outstanding. * 10/10 ~ portions and price is so worth it here, I really enjoy this place a lot. 100% worth the price. i don't recall exact price, but we paid around $30 with tip included. * 8/10 ~ good social distancing spread out. But didn't require mask, or contact information, nor did they provide hand sanitizing or temperature check at the door.

My family and I love coming here to have the most authentic Cantonese dishes for a great deal! It's also so yummy and flavourful ugh! They have these combo sets that let you try multiple dishes with a complimentary soup and rice - you can even add a crab/lobster for only $20+! The price is so appropriate and the ambience brings me right back to Hong Kong. They've been around since the 2000s so the interior is older, but that's what gives it it's charm. Such a staple, must give it a try! Definition of 快靚正!

Add $10 to upgrade to a 3lb lobster. Only available with a four or six dish combo.

A hole in the wall restaurant with very limited parking stalls. The five of us got the 4 dish combo, which comes with rice, soup, 4 dishes and Chinese dessert. This combo itself is $98. We upgraded by adding $10 for a lobster. Otherwise, you can choose between a crab or hainan chicken. Overall the food was not bad for its price, especially with the lobster added. I highly recommend the onion shrimp pot.

I arrived early, but, had no idea where they were located. I strolled through the food court and couldn't find them. After asking for directions, I was pointed in the right direction until I saw the line or queue as they say in Vancouver. They are both a meat market and a Cantonese BBQ shop. It is not a restaurant, though there are tables and chairs outside by the food court. Service was typical Cantonese. Order, pay, and get out. We ordered a roast pork rice and a roast duck rice. The portion size was larger than what I can get in the 626. It seemed like a good value for the price. It wasn't cheap. Both the roast pork and roast duck were flavorful. It was a good experience coming here and trying them out.

Roast Pork -- thin, perfectly crispy skin; well seasoned and not overly salty BBQ Pork (Char Siu) -- moist, tender, freshly sliced; lean with just the right touch of sweetness Roast Duck -- juicy with a crisp skin, carved fresh off the roast Service is quick and friendly. We ordered the half roast pork & half duck with rice, and the half roast pork & half BBQ pork with rice -- both excellent choices. The savory juices from the meats blend beautifully with the plain white rice, creating a simple but deeply satisfying bite. We asked a staff, and sadly I did not get the birthday person gets to eat free choice. There's a 2-HOUR eating limit, otherwise there's a cost charge for any leftovers. Food-wise, I really liked the differently priced tiers with each tier offering an amazing variety of options. My 3 friends and I agreed on *DELUXE TIER* for $39.85 per person, and it includes all of the food options below its tier which is classic tier for $28.85. All of the beef belly choices had amazing flavour when grilled over charcoal stove, and honestly it was probably my most favourite item on the menu. The chicken wings were on the smaller side but it still packs great flavour somehow. And the 'cold noodle with soup' had excellent flavour as well but it's a hefty bowl so it's better to save your stomach space for just meat only instead of carbs. The downside of my experience is the open bar which you can find in the middle of the restaurant. Its options was pretty lackluster and after circling the options at the open bar twice, I ended up NOT grabbing anything for the counter. Maybe they will change it up in the future, but at the present time I was a customer there, I did not like any of the choices on the open bar. Picture will be attached with caption. Overall, would I come back to Jin Tan Grill House? Yes. I would like to try their top tier called *SUPREME* for $68.85. For the choices supreme tier offers, I hope it's worth it in my future visit. For now, the *Deluxe* tier option was excellent but I might consider just coming here alone or with 1 or 2 friends next time because it is pretty expensive. Definitely recommended.

If there's one area for improvement, it would be the food temperature. Nothing came out piping hot, which left me wondering if the dishes had been sitting out for a bit -- or perhaps the restaurant just doesn't see as much volume during off-peak hours. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but hotter plates would elevate the experience. We intended on getting the à la carte menu at first but realized that based on how many big eaters we had, it was more bang for our buck with the all you can eat menu. We chose the lowest tier of all you can eat and there were some people who preferred seafood; even if you upgraded to the highest tier the selection in our opinion, didn't get drastically better that it was "worth it". We had a party of six and was seated at a long table with a divider. When we got to our seat, the staff had placed the divider at exactly the table edges connecting the two stove but it was so squishy and uncomfortable for 6 people that we had to move the divider over a little. There's a time limit for all you can eat however with one stove and us not knowing that the vegetables came raw and in full foiled packages, it took a long time to grill anything. Our waitress came over many many times to remind us about the time limit and even then... we were well over our time limit even though we only put in two rounds of food. One stove shared between six people was awful. It's not like our stove could cook any faster even if the waitress rushed us. We were even ending the meal with s'mores and the waitress couldn't wait any longer and brought over the bill. We had to put down our s'mores stick to pay the bill so she could leave us alone to finish the meal... the restaurant was not busy, there were plenty of empty tables and there was no one waiting in the lobby. Did not appreciate the service here. Overall, food was greasy and not memorable (as I just tried a different grilled meat spot a few days prior). The portions were weird. Most of the dishes were severely under portioned so we made sure to up our portions for round two. Our time was up before we could even put in our final round three order. The staff also didn't respect some of the items. We put in ice cream on the first order as people wanted to use it as a grease palate cleanser and it was only when we followed up with the waitress did they say "oh we thought it should be served at the end of the meal instead since it's a dessert". Perhaps following the orders of what customers mark off would help with better customer service....

There are different tiers for the AYCE, we just selected the Classic ($36.99/person, Mon-Thur all day; Fri-Sat 11am-4pm). For the hot pot, we just go up to the open refrigeration and select our meats and vegetables, and place in the metal pot. We bring the metal pot to the bar/front counter and select a choice of soup. I tried the bone broth (which was just ok) and the tom yum (which was good). The hot pot would be delivered to our table when done. Note, for those we don't want the BBQ meats, they do have a "Magic Pot Special" (Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm) for $25.99/person. For the BBQ meats, we select from our choices and was brought to our table cooked and placed on the hot plate to keep warm. The chicken and beef were excellent and not dry. I was told that the AYCE feature is recent (as of the time of writing) for this chain. Can't comment on the past, but I feel I walked out of there a better person. But first things first. Parking is available around the building, but only in certain sections of the surrounding lot. Pay careful attention to the diagram by the front door. The place has a funky interior, with colourful LED signs. Makes for a bit of a nightclub feel. Staff were friendly and helpful, which was nice, as it was my 1st time here. As of the time of writing, I think they have fully switched to AYCE now. There is the hot pot only option, and a skewer upgrade. Get the skewer upgrade. The cows and lambs will thank you. Just from this alone, it is very easy to eat one's money's worth when compared to the competition. The AYCE includes a drink of choice, as well as a small ice cream at the end. The hot pot section is very decent. Grab a pot and tongs, and fill up the pot with goodies. Pick a soup base, and they cook it for you and bring it to your table. I really like how the pots are rather shallow, so that there isn't too much (liquid) soup. I tried several flavours and everything was good. The skewers though. Oh wow. I don't know how many animals my buddy and I burned through. We were double fisting and tearing them animals to shreds. Talk about pure bliss. Everything was fresh and delicious. Honestly if I had to pick a last meal, this place would definitely be a candidate. With great reverence, I highly recommend.
