Wow where do I start!! TLDR: This is a must try Long Beach favorite. The food, the service, and the ambiance is great. Get the biscuits!! The food: amazing! I got the French toast and it was so delicious. The fresh made jam and cream on top of the sourdough was so good I didn't need to add anything at all. It was a hearty serving so I'd recommend splitting it with someone if you don't want leftovers. The Eggs Benedict was also so amazing, the shrimp was cooked and seasoned to perfection and it was all perfectly balanced by the fresh salad that came on the side. Don't even get me started on the orders of biscuits we got. I couldn't even get pictures of anything because everyone dug into their food before it was set down. Service: so great! We had two servers because one was helping while the other was on break and they did a great job of checking on us and communicating when they'd switch. Ambiance: Nice! Service was incredibly slow though the restaurant had maybe 20 guests. We were a party of 5 and eventually we were served but they completely forgot one person's meal a simply burrito. My meal was one of their fancy breakfasts eggs Benedict on a polenta cake alas it wasn't the best pairing but presentation was nice. I made sure to ask if there was anything spicy in any of the food because I couldn't tolerate that including pepper and I was told nope nothing spicy yet. My salad that came with my eggs. Benedict was buried in a pepper dressing a black pepper dressing that was so thick. It made the lettuce look bad and I gave it to one of my friends who loves pepper and still he could eat it. All together my meal was $35.00 for the eggs Benedict and one cup of extremely mediocre plain normal mass produce coffee. Parking is absolutely miserable there are only about 8 spaces in their lot. Lots of room for improvements. Talked with a couple of other tables of guest and they similar opinions. The menu sounds kind of dazzling promising a wonderful culinary adventure but fell very short of good food. I came by a few years ago and the food was superb. The shrimp and grits had creamy flavorful cornmeal with well cooked shrimp that was soft and tender. The fried chicken was crispy with a flavorful batter, which complemented the juicy chicken. The Mac and cheetos was creamy with tons of white cheddar, mozzarella, and Jack cheese mixed into it. The wait time to be seated was over one hour and as far as service, it could have been wayyyy more efficient, which probably explains the long wait time. There were 5 of us but our server only brought 3 plates and 2 spoons so we had to ask for a few more which took some time. We also sat for a while before anyone acknowledged us to take our order. I heard a lot about this place and was excited to try the food, but I felt like none of the food was memorable enough to make me crave it again. We got the breakfast burrito, short rib poutine, Belgian waffle and crab croquettes. The breakfast burrito just felt a little plan with just the meat and eggs, and I felt it could've benefited from some fresh guacamole to balance out the heavy protein. The short rib poutine was really good, but the gravy threw me off and made it a bit too soggy for my liking. The Belgian waffle was too airy and light for my liking, I love a good rich buttery waffle so this wasn't to my taste; but you may like it if you enjoy light airy waffles. The crab croquettes are served egg Benedict side, and I'm not too big of a fan of Benedict style, so this wasn't it for me either. I think the highlight was my friend and I brought our dogs and the waiters were very sweet to them. I did feel bad one of the dogs was a barker, but the waiters didn't make us feel bad for that and were nice to bring the dogs water and water bowls. I really appreciated them being kind when one of the dogs was clearly anxious. Service definitely makes up for the food since they are so nice. As for ambiance, we sat outside since we had dogs and it was very enjoyable on a sunny day since they have shade so you won't be in the beating hot sun. The food and service blew me away! I saw how popular this restaurant was and was dying to try it. I took my girlfriend here in the evening during the week, and there was no wait. (Make sure to bring a mask as well) We first ordered the Mac and Cheetos as our appetizer and strawberry lemonades. The flavor and cheesiness were ridiculous. The flakes from the Cheetos give the mac and cheese a little spice. I wouldn't mind going back just to order this. The strawberry lemonade was good, but they put too much ice in both our drinks. Our hotel recommended the Attic the first night we were in town. We ended up in Long Beach for over 2 weeks for work. The first night our waiter Nathan treated us like family. We had the crispy octopus and then the chicken under a brick. I never order chicken in a restaurant because it's usually dry and flavorless. This stuff is addictive! I ordered it on Grubhub for delivery days later. The Grubhub driver quit or just never showed up. I called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone was so nice. She's noticed my chicken turning into a brick. It had been there for hours. She offered to personally drive it to my hotel and have the dish re made. I wish I could remember her name. No restaurant offers this kind of service. It was too late and too much to ask so I declined. But wow. The owner needs to know that his staff treats this restaurant like their own business Needless to say we went back 3 more times. We've had almost everything on the menu. Our final night in LBC we went for our last meal and although Nathan wasn't our server he still greeted us!!! We were sitting outside and I looked up to see him walking by (super cute neighborhood for walking about) and he gave us a welcoming smile and told us how glad he was that we came back. Presentation was amazing and I loved everything about it. I'm a huge blue cheese fan so this salad was very good. Everything is cooked from scratch here so please be patient with your food. I'll start off by saying our experience was similar to a number of other people who posted reviews. Food was good, service not so much. We had mixed feelings about our dining experience. The wait staff was good, but not great. The kitchen experience was poor to fair except for the appetizer (Mac & Cheetos) which came out promptly. We ordered a burger with fries and a gumbo. The burger came out and then the overly oily/buttery lukewarm fries came 5-10 minutes later. The gumbo finally came at least 15 minutes later after we asked twice. The table next to ours also ordered gumbo, and they left without ever getting that served. It seemed to us that the kitchen was either understaffed or not operating as efficiently as they should have been. The taste of the food was very good (except for the fries). I hate to go against the grain because I've only ever heard high reviews about this place, but as someone who eats out in Long Beach a lot, it didn't feel like anything special in terms of the actual food. But the food wasn't worth writing home about, despite being on the Michelin guide. We had the mac and Cheetos, which I didn't care for or finish-- the presentation is nice, but it's just mac & cheese with salt and pepper in it, which makes it less tasty somehow. The lobster roll was served cold, and perhaps this is on me but I didn't expect it. I also couldn't taste the lobster in that roll, given all the other things added in it. I don't believe it was worth the $32 price tag. The one thing I really enjoyed in the meal was the short rib poutine, but it's hard to go wrong with poutine! One had the gumbo, one had the french toast, one had the avo toast, and I had the Oh My Vigo sandwich. Everything was really delicious, high quality, and delivered freshly prepared. The hosts were superb and held a table for us while we waited for two friends, one of which is elderly and has mobility issues. Once we were together they quickly assessed that a high top table would be difficult, we were seated inside. It is so rare to have this level of service, so we were felt right at home. The Attic has always been popular with people waiting to be seated at almost all hours of the day, especially at brunch. (Reservations are available through Yelp.) Despite that, the owners decided to completely revamp their menu recently with a new chef and it's spectacular. They are even recognized in the Michelin Guide! This restaurant is unique, located in a 1920's craftsman style house that feels very homey inside, offers a large patio in the front and a side room with a gorgeous bar that opens out to the patio. I've previously been for brunch but recently tried out their new dinner menu and was very impressed. As per their website, they are "marrying New American cuisine with southern traditions". Brunch is served until 3:45 after which they offer a pared down "intermission" menu until dinner begins at 5:30pm. The Crispy Octopus appetizer sounded fantastic but I couldn't justify spending $20 on an app during a casual Thursday night dinner so I'll have to save it for another time. You can treat yourself with something from their bread menu like the biscuits, grandma's cornbread or country bread. I do have to note that the New York Steak Frites were very disappointing. The cut of steak wasn't great and it didn't have much flavor. I suggest passing on that one. Now on to the good stuff. I ordered the Black Seabream and it was simply one of the best-prepared pieces of fish I have had in a long time. The fish itself is light, buttery and packed with flavor from the xo sauce. But if you're very hungry you'll really enjoy the huge scalding stone pot filled with crispy rice that's served on the side and topped with a light radish salad. Of course you have to go with a side of their famed Mac & Cheetos. It's extra gooey and creamy from a mixture of mozzarella, cheddar and jack cheeses and the pasta is homemade then topped off with crumbled Flaming Hot Cheetos of course! You don't want to miss out on checking out this new menu and I believe the Attic will be a mainstay of Long Beach for a long time to come. read more
