I live less than a 5 minute drive from Thai Sky. There is no reason it should take that long. While I appreciate how apologetic the delivery man was, it didn't make up for the soggy deep fried eggplant and moderately warm, mediocre pad thai. So disappointed. $6.95 lunch special M-F 11am - 3pm. Choice of entree with steamed rice, salad/fried egg roll, Thai iced tea/iced coffee. Salad: tangy, sweet dressing. Iceburg lettuce was crispy but at room temperature. Would be better if it was cold and crispy; that's refreshing. Green chicken curry: the "spicy" here really means spicy. I was sweating and gasping for water as I was savaging the curry over rice. There was a fair amount of chicken, red bell peppers, onions, green beans. The curry itself was a slightly thicker than other green curries I've had possibly due to a little more coconut milk. Nonetheless, the dish was enjoyable despite the steam coming from my head. Thai iced tea: cold, sweet and free. Verdict: Definitely would come back again. It's true that the portions may be a little small but it's actually how much we should eat. Just ordered delivery from them, which we haven't in a while - we found a much closer Thai place around where we moved to, but I had a strong desire for some pad thai just now, and that other place isn't open on Sundays. So I called them up. They said food would be here in half an hour - I definitely did *not* experience what some people have been complaining about, that they've stopped being quick with delivery. Much the opposite: the half an hour was actually more like 20 minutes before they were at my door. That said, I do feel like the portions got a little smaller, and a tiny bit less flavorful than they were a couple years ago. Still not tiny, and still not bland - they just used to be a little better, but they're still pretty good (and still on the cheaper side for Thai food in the area). Sure, some may consider this location a hole in the wall... yet they ALWAYS put out fine quality food at more than reasonable prices. Staff, always attentive and eager to please. They are always smiling and have a non-rush attitude. Food ordered over two years is always well seasoned, fresh, and flavorful. I have never returned my dish for any reason. The BF and I decided to try this place because we found a gift certificate on restaurant.com. So we had to order $35 worth of food to be able to use the $25 gift certificate. So we call up a friend and he comes and meets us there. We order Tom kah Kai ( chicken coconut soup), beef lad na ( flat rice noodles with a gravy sauce), beef pra ram ( beef, broccoli in peanut sauce) and chicken pineapple curry. Then we give the server our cert. He goes off and comes back a minute later telling us they don't accept the certificate anymore. We told him that we just bought it and that it doesn't expire until a year later. He tells is the owner already canceled their contract with restaurants.com. We tell him again it's not expired and they need to read the fine print. He comes back again saying she wont accept it. We tell we just bought it and it's not expired. So he goes away again. He doesn't come back until 10 minutes later with the pra ram. He sets it down and asks us if we would like to order rice with it. It didn't come with rice? Why didn't he tell us that or ask us when he took our order then? Yes. We ordered a large rice. The rest of the food came out without a hitch. It was okay. I would rate the food 3 stars. I wasn't too keen on the lad na because the noodles were clumped/ stuck together in big hunks and the gravy was too slimy for my liking... I think it was made with tapioca starch instead of corn starch so it was really sticky. I liked the flavor of the pineapple curry but there was a lot of sauce and hardly any filling in it. probably would have given them 3 stars of they weren't weird about the gift cert. read more

This place is walking distance from my place and was recently recommended, so I finally decided to give them a try. I made a pick up order and ordered the dinner special . Here you get Shrimp fried rice + (egg roll/salad) + meat choice + ice tai coffee = total was under 10 bucks . They didn't mention that there was a 10 dollar minimum for debit card transactions, which sucked because I only brought my card. They were super cool and waived that for me ! Shrimp fried rice was awesome but only consisted of 3 large shrimp . Chicken chow mien was also super good it had lots of veggies, the noddles were so good and had just the right amount of chicken. I see so many great reviews of this place but I was beyond disappointed. Maybe they were having a bad day. I ordered green curry, Tom yom and satay chicken. All the meat including in the pork green curry was so desiccated it was like jerky. not burnt, jerky. The peanut sauce was not traditional American style thai peanut sauce (sweet, no fish sauce, no peanut flavor, just sweet more like a wonton sauce). The satay tasted really Indian spiced not thai. It boggles my mind that meat in broth or sauce can have such a dry texture. I hope this was just a bad day but I won't order from them again. Not my cup of tea. Again I hope this was just a bad day for them or it's just not style of thai food and that other's appreciate them more than me. Quick service, good packaging and the food was delivered warm. Love coming to Thai Sky. Great reliably good food that fulfill the Thai craving. The Dinner and lunch combo is a good buy and always hits the spot. With the many items it is easy to enjoy the sweet fried goodness (oranga chicken) and the savory (Garlic pepper chicken). Even a lighter side with the Chop suey with all the vegetables and broth. Authentic Thai food is one of the few cultures that has so many ingredients that it usually can't be made by any other ethnicity in the kitchen (unlike Japanese, Chinese and Korean food). So this is my personal review based on living in Thailand for over 3 months and living in LA county my whole life: Thai Sky is not the best Thai food in Long Beach, but it is so close to my house AND the staff is supremely nice and generous. If you're looking for a safe bet? Try what first timers and non-Thai people order: Pad Thai, Special fried rice, or Pad See Ew. Not too spicy or crazy or fishy. My test is how good the papaya salad is. If the place doesn't have it, it's definitely not a true Thai run joint. A step up from I Love Vegan across the street. So we roll 3 deep. WBE, The World's Strongest Man, and myself. After a crude session of "would you" or " would you rather" on the drive there. I step out of the whip and notice some creepy ass black dude just staring and smiling at us. Maybe he was being just friendly. Nah, that fool was creepy. We stand around and wait for the staff to break three 20's. While they were figuring that shit out, I just stood there and stared at this lonely-ass big orange fish in a murky tank. Poor dude was looking at me. I was about to communicate with him telepathically and find out what was ailing him, but WBE dropped a takeout menu in the tank. Thus ruining my concentration. Yes.. like my usual self I was a pig and decided to order a bunch of stuff to try out... so here were my purchases... 1) Pad Thai Chicken - with rice / egg roll / Thai iced tea (I'd used the abbreviation but I better keep it censored....just more typing that's all) Terrific Pad Thai Noodles just the perfect taste I was anticipating. 2) Mint Leaves Chicken - with rice / egg roll / Thai iced tea Woooo... I wanted spicy and they gave it to me.. but it wasn't painfully spicy, but instead it was deliciously spicy which leaving you wanting more 3) Chicken Curry - with rice / egg roll / Thai iced tea Not overly sweet with great flavor.... Curries at Thai restaurants are typically a safe decision if you don't know their menu items. DON'T WORRY! They are not all for me...... I will be sharing........ I REALLY ENJOY THIS PLACE!!!!! I was pretty worried of the Thai iced tea but when I had it the tea was actually really refreshing and great! And best of all, it was FREE!!!!! The Pad Thai was outrageous as well.. again, not overly sweetened and delicious while it was piping hot!!! There are tons more of other menu items to choose from... I'm already eyeballing some of the items such as Spicy Wings, Stuffed Angel Wings, Papaya Salad, Tom Kha, Mas-Sa-Man, etc.... so you know I will be heading back very soon to give other items a try! The only gripe, please all be careful leaving the parking lot... the street has lots of cars parked which can potentially block visibility. However, if you are careful (which you should always be doing while operating machinery or vehicle), you will find that this "didn't look like much" restaurant is actually a awesome spot to be a frequent customer to! (BTW. despite the parking situation, at lunch it was near full capacity!!! I live really close to a ghetto neighborhood. OKAY-OKAY-OKAY!!! I live "IN" a ghetto neighborhood in Long Beach. So bad sometimes my hubby won't let me stand out on our own front porch for long periods of time. ( I really don't think it's THAT BAD!) N - E- wayz, now that you know this... I would drive pass thinking out loud, "Hmmm, I've got to check that place out!" but my hubby would scold me and say,"No, not in "this" neighborhood!" I would complain a lil' and he'd say something like," yada yada yada SAFETY yada yada yada!!! Let's just go to some place on Atlantic Blvd.!!!" Aaacckkhh... Eating at SAFE restaurants...Where's the Fun and Adventure in that?!?!?! Well, Saturday morning, we woke up hungry (as usual) and debated on where to have breakfast...still sitting in bed 2 hours later... I begged,"Can we please try one of the neighborhood restaurants? It's still early and all the gangsters and bad people are probably still asleep!?!?!" Hesitantly, he said yes. Under one condition, he got to pick the place. OK, that's fair. So, we ended up at THAI SKY, literally one block away from home. From the outside it looks TINY and a lil' tacky, with a mini parking lot that barely fits 3 cars (there's probably more parking in the back, but that would mean having to drive thru a dangerous alley). BUT once inside, ahhhhhh, it brought back fond memories of a time long gone. I felt like I was back in the Philippines with the familiar scent of burning incense wafting thru the air. The decor was simple, reddish mahoganyish WOOD, wood tables, chairs, wall panels, even what looks like tree trunks framing the doorway... and I loved it! Their menus are cool, pictures of everything, so even if we couldn't pronounce anything, we could just point at what looked good! We ordered the BBQ Ribs, Beef Fried Rice, and BBQ Pork. The food was tasty, especially the RIBS! I'm giving it 3 stars because of the tiny parking lot out front, and the need for a new coat of PAINT on the ouside. All in all... it was a good experience... This is another place that my co-workers and I frequently order delivery from while we're stuck at work for a long shift. I can always count on this place to feed me well! They've always been very nice & accommodating. One time, it was just me, so the total was less than $15. That's when I found out that they usually deliver only if the total is $15 or more. So, I told them that I'd have to cancel my order. Well, they told me that it was OK, & that they would go ahead & deliver for me anyway. Aww, thanks! I usually alternate between the green curry and pad thai. The pad thai comes with shrimp (still with the tail) and chicken. I almost always have leftovers to take home for the next day. When they deliver the food, there's always packets of utensils, napkins, & sauce included. On occasion, I get a thai iced tea or coffee from them too--as a treat for my long shift. They also sometimes have coconut juice & young coconut available, if that's your thing. One of my co-workers likes it. I tried it, & decided that I really didn't care for it. They don't always have change in ones when they deliver, so if you can give them exact total plus tip, it works better. One time, the delivery guy didn't get a tip from me because of the change issue. I felt bad...I've been meaning to stop by the restaurant & drop off a cash tip sometime. Lunch time is by far the most important decision we make all day at work. Sad but true. So who ever calls the lunch spot for the day is the equivalent of god for that 30 minute block of time. I've been raving about this Thai place I've had before (only2x) and it was killer. I managed to convince my co-slackers into ditching Wendy's for some legit Thai cuisine. They don't have change for a 20...not a big deal, I dropped a menu in the fish tank and figured we were even. However the food was really weak. I understand I'm a white boy and we typically like our food bland, but c'mon when I ate Play-Doh in preschool it had more kick than the Pad Thai. I had my coworker give it a try and he's straight from the Thai motherland, this dude eats sloth and everything. He took one bite and just shook his head. My second disappointing Thai restaurant.... the seafood soup had a very OFF smell. I couldn't bring myself to eat it. It had no flavor. The shrimp were waterlogged for a restaurant that just opened... the tempora has no seasoning and it was battered lightly. The dumplings were good. The muscles in the seafood soup had SAND in it. I don't even know what's going on here seriously. The service was good. Small restaurant and friendly staff. Good jazz music playing. But food? 4/10. read more
