Came here with a friend for a semi-late (12:30pm) lunch on a weekday and there was plenty of seating in both the restaurant as well as the Cafe / bakery that's connected next door. There is a parking lot in front of the building, but there are not very many spots as there was no room here even though I figure the total inside capacity was at only 30%. There is street parking available within a block so overall not too bad in terms of accessibility. The restaurant has a eclectic buildout in rugged hole-in-the-wall kind of way. It's sufficiently comfortable and honestly feels a little like Thailand by not being a pristinely maintained and modern buildout. The fish sauce smell was a bit strong when we were there but can't hold that against them. The food was good, I'd say ~3.5 stars on average. We ordered the Pad Thai (4 stars), Glass Noodles (3 stars), and the Larb Nang Gai Todd (4 stars). Flavors were balanced and tasty with some more memorable than others but overall would not register on my "must have again" list. The biggest knock here was the service and customer experience. The restaurant is all self-service and they adopt a Toast tab for minimal contact ordering. No issues against these setups and I appreciate the convenience but as a customer, you're also stuck in the awkward situation of tipping upfront for effectively no service. I already have a strong opinion against how wild tipping culture has gotten in the U.S. (just bake it into the price of the food so there's no subjective awkwardness!) and setups like these create for an awful experience when things go wrong. The person "helping" us was perfectly nice, but forgot every simple request we asked of her (can we get an extra plate?). Our collective tip on a lunch was probably $10 and the guilt of not tipping despite the fact that we ended up self-serving for everything is never fun. Overall worth a visit as the food is pretty good but the dine-in experience was not particularly great. I've been a Thai Fresh customer for several years, but I don't know that I will return after my experience tonight. I placed an order at 7:29pm. I went to check on it around 8. The line was so long that it took until 8:22 for them to tell me they lost our order in their system but that they could have it ready around 8:50 or they could refund me. Waiting almost an hour and a half for food is insane. And they didn't do anything to make it right. They wouldn't expedite it, didn't offer a free dessert or drink or anything. It made me feel like they don't value my time. Very disappointing from a restaurant I liked. Thai Fresh has great pastries, but it's not worth having to wait for 80 minutes to get your Thai food. If you're in the area, Pan 888 has much better customer service and is significantly cheaper for the portion served. I'll also be trying Super Thai on South Lamar. read more

This place used to have really good food, but unfortunately they fell off. Last time I was here I got the ol reliable Pad Thai (no thai place can mess that up right?) and it was soggy and oily mess. Guys you don't have to drown the thing in sauce, I can assure you sometimes less is more. But really, I was curious on why the food hasn't been hitting the same lately so I talked to one of the servers and they informed me that changed management, especially in the kitchen. Which would make sense because they DO have an open kitchen and I no longer see the same old familiar faces. If Thai Fresh could get their management situation in order, redemption is not not off the table. Thai Fresh is one of my all-time favorite places in Austin. I love that you can choose your vibe - more of a restaurant on the right side, cafe on the left, and a nice outside seating area with greenery. All the food is good, but I especially love the basil lime agua fresca, Thai chicken and waffles, homemade non-dairy ice creams (pandan, Thai coffee, and so much more), and lots of gluten free dessert options. It's so cozy and fun and good for different occasions I've been by myself (especially stopping by for coffee or ice cream), with friends for a weekend brunch, on a date, and even informal work meetings. read more

It's a 3.5 for me, but I'll round up. Never been here before a recent team outing and would never had known about it if not for that outing since it's a bit tucked away from the main street. But it's a homey restaurant that has good thai food and the scent when you walk in gets you tummy going asap. Portion sizes here are huge and more than enough to take home after you're full. I got a pad see ew with crispy pork belly and it was good overall - not too sweet, savory enough. The pork itself was a bit underwhelming, as I was expecting crispy chicharrone type pork belly but don't think the skin (if there was any) was crunchy after the dip into the hot oil fry. What happened here?!? Thai Fresh used to have some of my favorite Thai food in Austin. I moved away for a couple years and moved back, figured I'd give it a go for lunch; now I'm stuck here with the worst drunken noodles I've had possibly ever. The noodles are hard and clumped together. There's inexplicably CARROT?!? Why? The fried tofu is hard as a rock. The sauce is bitter. What is going on? Will not be returning, no matter how much I like the business ethics. Not worth the tummy ache. read more

I keep trying this place. Service is great! I love the restaurant for paying their employees a living wage and it's included in the prices. You enter, sit down, scan the QR code and pay via your phone. The staff bring it out as it's cooked. I wish they had more than one bottle of sauce because if a table has it, you can't have it unless you look around and go over to their table and disturb their meal to ask for the bottle. My drunken noodles tasted a little undercooked and not enough sauce. My boyfriend's coconut curry was actually very good. And their ice cream is pretty great. Incredibly SMALL portions when you order to-go. The thai iced coffee was Nasty. They said it was coffee and sweetened condensed milk. It tasted like spoiled milk and a bag of sugar. Not good. I was,frankly, astonished by how small the container was for $16. It is actually the size of a saucer. Unbelievably overpriced. Stopped in during lunch and ordered fried pork belly and an order of Thai beef fried rice. The pork belly was good and crispy but their beef fried rice really let me down. :( it looked great but the flavor just was not there. The beef was also lacking as well. They used ground beef opposed to slices. I tried it a few more times and even tried adding a little soy and Sriracha to amp up the flavor. Wanted to like it but couldn't get any Thai flavor from any of it. Hear of this place on Instagram and have been following it for a while, looks nice on Instagram pictures but the food is pretty disappointing. Firstly it's over priced, for only three items cost us almost $60! The portion size is also very small. The platter comes with flavorless fried chicken wing, the sticky rice is hard as rock that we end up just dumping it, papaya salad is just fine. Idk why this place doesn't have a better rating. I have been here twice and had the same server both times. She's been efficient and polite both times. I've gotten the green curry both times and I can't get enough of it. Portions are huge and I love that this place doesn't collect tips. The green curry is big enough that I can eat it for 2-3 meals. I do eat a lot of rice, but the curry is so thick and flavorful that I don't need much per spoonful to taste it so I am able to enjoy the curry for several meals :) I really like that fact. I've also tried the pad Thai and I like that it isn't as sweet as most pad Thai I've tried at other places. The sweetness is actually why I don't like pad Thai, but I could eat this pad Thai. The space is large and good for work lunches or normal lunches. They have some spaces where you can plug in a work and they have free WiFi and coffee. Haven't had their coffee yet, though, so I can't speak on that. Took my work team of 8 during lunch and were easily seated and food arrived at the same time. Thai Fresh in like mana from heaven. This place doesn't take tips and for a good reason. They decided it was foolish to pay their employees a non living service wage. So instead they're paid well and that cost is factored into the food costs, but also means you don't tip. All in all, everyone wins. The food isn't overpriced and is crazy delicious. The staff is happy, well paid and friendly. Our go-to is the masaman curry. For us it's the perfect balance of flavors and we can't get enough. Every once and a while we try other things, but we don't stray far and always come back. During COVID this is also one of the only places in town that quickly adapted and also became a pseudo grocery store. Allowing you to add grocery items to your order or even get some premade curry bases from them which is our new favorite thing to do. read more

Once that motivation is removed, who cares if I'm an attentive, responsive Server??? To make matters worse...ANYTIME you make a purchase, the electronic payment system STILL asks if you'd like to leave a tip!!! Wait, what??? I thought the enlightened Liberals at Thai Fresh were against tipping? Apparently they want you to pay more so their Servers can get a "Living wage" but STILL ask if you want yo leave a tip! Hypocrisy...Thy name is "Thai Fresh"! But it gets WORSE!!! There aren't really any Servers anymore at Thai Fresh!!! Ordering is done by customers, with their phones and a QR code at their table! So WHO is getting the "living wage"? Who is getting the tips??? Basically, if you ask for a cupcake, they put it in a bag and ask for a tip! Sorry...Not playing. Now for the food... Honestly, it's mediocre at best. I ordered the under-seasoned, taste-free Massaman curry...And had to pay EXTRA for stuff like potatoes and chicken in my curry! (Which is always included - Duh! - in any other Thai restaurant where I've EVER eaten! The chicken was low-grade thigh meat, with the texture of rubber. My wife's noodle dish wasn't any better. I'll never eat at this place, again...Unless it's for the deserts, which are pretty good (and gluten free, if that's important). That's the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars. Let me start off by saying, I love Thai Fresh for their quality of good and avocado oil option! Because I love it so much, my partner and I decided to cater it for one of our events. Food was delicious as always but the transfer of food and customer service was below exceptional. As a worker was carrying out my order I noticed a liquid leaking all over his pants so I pointed it out to get it taken care of. He proceeds to try to play it off as being water...when it was clearly coconut soup pouring rapidly down him. After pointing out to him again that it was very obviously not water, he admitted that it was the soup and didn't make any adjustments to the container. I was directing him to put it in the front of my car so I could keep an eye on it and he insisted it go in the trunk. I specifically asked him "will I have to worry about this moving around back here and spilling again?" He said no that it would be fine. Trusting him & also having to rush back to feed 15+ people I took his word for it, I took it upon me (since he didn't) to try to adjust the container of soup to prevent spilling. Well, pictures speak for themselves here. It spilled in the trunk my partners Alfa Romeo- which is one of the cars he uses in his rental business. We called the day after and spoke to a worker who said they need to pass the message to a manager who can handle this type of situation. A week later and no call back from anyone. Pretty bummed about the customer service here, if it was given the attention it deserves I wouldn't be posting this review publicly. read more

Thai Fresh has the tastiest Thai food in Austin. It is unique and has details like a special brand of Siracha that has like an orange flavor to it and does not kill the flavor of what you are eating with heat. The outside is perfect for good weather and the Pad Thai portion was huge! They'll send you a confirmation text with another phone number to text your name and car make/model when you arrive. Then they'll bring your food outside and place it on the picnic table. They'll signal you, then you can get out of your car to pick it up. No close contact at all. read more

Made a chicken and veggie rendition of their green curry the other day using the sauce container and it was fantastic. As always, Jam is proving why she, and this restaurant, is a step above the rest. The moment one of her workers test positive for COVID-19 she sent the rest home for two weeks, WITH pay. As a result you'll have to wait till towards the end of May to get your Thai Fresh fix. Vegan and gluten free review! I love Thai Fresh and have been coming here for years. There are plenty of vegan and gf options, and a great outdoor patio in front. I'm going with 3 because all the positive reviews have me thinking maybe the kitchen was having a bad day, but BOY was my food bad. The rice wasn't cooked and trying to eat the parts that were gave me a tummy ache. I've ordered Tom Kha at every Thai restaurant I've ever eaten at and this was the second worst ever. There's also zero service aside from them bringing you water and your food to the table...no checking in to make sure everything is okay (it wasn't), no checking if we wanted more water (we did)...just bleah. My wife said her soup tasted like condensed mushroom soup out of a can. What little flavor there was tasted gross. I don't leave negative reviews unless I feel other prospective diners need to be warned away.
