Ordered takeout for the first time from Thai E-San. I chose the Royal Curry with Chicken and a side order of egg rolls. Although the flavor of the curry was fabulous, it was definitely skimpy on the protein. Not sure there was more than 4 ounces of chicken in my portion which was a very large portion, enough for two meals. I will definitely order double chicken next time. The egg rolls suffered from the same malady, although tasty there was 90% veggie and maybe 10% chicken/egg. These were also a bit greasy, probably wouldn't order them again. I'll try a different appetizer next time. Note: there was a sign taped to the door that states they will be closed on Saturdays starting 7/23. Fresh perfect shrimp in a beautifully balanced coconut soup full of kefir lime, lemongrass and galangal. One of the best we've had. House special Thai sausage. Never had before, my favorite bites of the meal. Mild spice, juicy texture, slight char flavor. Delicious! Chu Chee fish was a bit of a disappointment. Deep fried whole "sea bass". Not much meat on it, but nice and crunchy with a tasty mild curry. Green curry pork. Very tasty curry and veggies, but the pork bits were kind of tasteless and underwhelming. For dessert coconut ice cream with crushed peanuts and of course, sticky rice and mango. Service was great, friendly and helpful. The long waits for Asian restaurants downtown had us browsing Yelp- and I'm SO glad we found this restaurant! They were very welcoming even tho we got there kinda late as we came from airport. There was a family celebrating a birthday inside, and overall cozy vibe. Was hungry and in downtown Phoenix for a meeting when I came across the hundreds of incredible reviews for Thai E-San. I decided since it was 1.1 miles away to give it a try and boy am I happy I did. To be fair, it was a small to go order but the egg rolls were filled with REAL ingredients, you can tell they were home made. They were also fried to a perfect golden crisp. The yellow curry was quite honestly one of if not the best I've ever had. The curry itself was thick and had the perfect amount of spice to our liking. While it might seem slight, even the white rice was delicious. And the Pad See-Ew...simply amazing. We finished every morsel that was in the container and are currently longing to go back already. Starting off, we were craving Thai food tonight and when looking up some places near by we ran in to this really small, home style restaurant with a great ambiance and a feeling of a warm and pleasant setting. The Chicken Golden Royal curry was really good with a sweet and savory mix. The sampler was very tasty with our favorites being the fish cakes and the Thai Toast. The Lemongrass Soup was very tasty with chicken being cooked perfectly. And the freshly made coconut ice cream was really good with sweet but not overly sweet with great flavor! This place is amazing! Pick a 2.5 for spiciness level. It's the perfect amount of spice. We got the pad Thai and yellow curry. Both were delicious. You might need more whitE rice for the curry. Also, they run out of mango sticky rice around Christmas time because the mangoes are out of season:( VERY good. Will be coming back. Also the service was great too. Noodle quality was decent, but the cooking was mediocre, and the food felt like a brick in my stomach afterwards. The beef was dry and chewy, despite all the oil and sauce in the dish. When we came in, we were greeted with smiles and great hospitality. We were seated to our tables right away, and they asked us what we wanted for our drinks right away. During COVID-19: Thai E-San is our go-to for Thai in Phoenix. We love the selection and ambience of this restaurant as well as the quality of their food. Since COVID, we have only done take-out here but the food is always well made and proportions are big for one person. We usually end up saving the rest for the next day. I always order the green curry since I've always loved more coconut flavored curry dishes. The spice levels are phenomenal compared to some places in town. When I made the mistake of making my spice to a level 4 or 5 (and not even the Thai level!), I thought my weak-sauce spice intake could handle a 4. Nope! Did my spice preference go back to a level 2? Possibly. But the 4 really is a no for me that I can no longer enjoy my dishes. I now am a level 3. The food is too good to be covered with excruciating spice. I'd also go with a 2 if I truly wanted to not have a kick. Thank God for rice! They also make this app dish, "Angel Wings", that we had to try based on Yelp's photos. I have never had something like it and was tasty. It definitely is not your typical egg roll. It consists of meat (chicken and pork) and noodles in a breaded shell. The host is super nice and seems to remember me. So plus for that since I've been coming here for several months now. The little things definitely count. This is my favorite Thai restaurant Phoenix! While I haven't tried every single one, this restaurant has the flavors that I love and they bring the heat if you like it. This time, I ordered takeout around lunchtime and expected the wait to be long, but it was still only 20 minutes! I ordered the spicy noodles with basil with chicken at a spice level of 2 and the green curry with chicken at a spice level of 3. I think I always get the spicy noodles with basil, the pad see ew, or pad Thai but I really should branch out because I haven't had anything here that I have disliked. Awesome! We really liked this place. We went around 8pm on a Thursday night. There were people there, but the staff probably considered it a little slow. We both noticed that they had Christmas paintings up specifically for the holiday. It was a subtle thing, but an attention to detail that we both appreciated. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. He worked with an efficiency that you would expect of a task-oriented Asian fellow. It was also well-appreciated. We ordered the Fish Cakes for an appetizer, the coconut soup with chicken (3/5 spiciness), and the red curry with chicken (3/5). The fish cakes were tasty but not our favorite. To be fair, I'm not sure we are fans of the "fish cake" in general, so it's possible that they were exactly what they should have been. The weather was cold, for Phoenix, and this soup hit the spot like you wouldn't believe. It was fairly rich and the two of us had to struggle a little bit to finish it. (Spoiler: There was no actual struggling involved.) We always try the red curry when visiting at new Thai place. It is our personal yardstick. This place did an excellent job. Red curry isn't the McDonald's hamburger of Thai cooking so it's always at least a little bit different depending on where you go. But, we loved it here. Good level of heat (we both like spicy) and a really nice flavor. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for Thai food, I'd definitely put this on your "To Try" list. read more
