To start I got the chicken egg rolls. The most memorable thing about them was that the sauce was clear. I've never seen that before. If that's how it's supposed to be than someone please let me know. As for the flavor, I thought it was ok, but could have benefited from a better sauce with a much deeper flavor. My entree was the Penang curry. I'm admittedly not an expert on Thai food, so I picked this one because it had a lot of the veggies I wanted and said that it added peanut butter. It was delicious. However, my main problem, and the reason why gave it 3 stars, is that it was SO MUCH peanut butter that I couldn't taste much else. I mean who doesn't like peanut butter? It's hard to tell someone why I didn't like peanut butter overload. If not for that, then I feel like the flavor really needed to be dialed in more in order to make this something I would come back for. Tonight I went to the Authentic Thai kitchen. We were the only table in the restaurant. Our server was prompt and attentive. The decor was minimalist and I found it bizarre they played tv instead of music in this restaurant. I ordered pad Thai and it was alright. I wasn't overly impressed with the pad Thai because i like a bit more peanut taste and this was very saucy. The person I went with ordered the garlic pepper chicken and it was wonderful. Pad Thai was very saucy and very tomato based, could've had more complex favors, or a balance between sour, sweet, and salty. Noodles were a good texture. Green curry was very watery, but tasty; however the beef in it was tough and flavorless. Presentation was nice with beautiful dishwear. All dishes were at a good temperature. First off, it's a small place so I can see how it has to be creative with seating. There is a bar area with high stools and there are booths. Y'all know when I saw the booths and no individual tables I began to panic. But here's how I know there's a God in Heaven who loves me: the booths are so roomy my big stomach didn't touch the table! I actually had to pull the table closer to me, YAY! The booths cushions are very comfortable making it both spacious and comfortable. The food. When comparing ATK with Thai Spices in Mesa and other Downtown Thai restaurants, the first difference is we were not asked our spice level preferences. This confused me because I didn't want to order a dish I'd not enjoy because my gut was ablaze. Second, our dishes were too sweet! The Basil stir fry was mildly bland and sweet. The pork chow mein was sticky, mushy and sweet. The stir fried shrimp was watery and guess what else? Yep, sweet. While I was searching for a glucose meter, my sister suggested adding hot sauce (sombal) to temper the sweetness. That did help a bit, but still, I didn't want dessert for dinner. I have to mention that our appetizers were grade A. We had Tom Yum soup and fried shrimp. These, along with the Thai tea were fantastic but overall, not enough to warrant another visit. read more
