The service was awful, My opinion is people are on top of their game when it's busy. Tonight wasn't busy, so a lot of time for the staff to stand around and talk. Started out they were out of one cocktails on the menu and another one they feature on the specials board. I understand that you run out of items, just was odd for a Friday night. We got are first round of drinks they were great, appetizers came and amazing also. We had finished our appetizers and sat there for a bit while the staff carried on a conversation with the kitchen staff, until they realized we were looking their way. She came over and took our order for dinner. Once again the food was great and full of flavor. I had finished my first drink and the server picked it up my glass and walked away. Not overly annoyed, but two things one as a severe you should ask if you want another drink and two the restaurant is losing money by not asking if you want another drink which is one of the most marked up item in a restaurant. She finally came back around and I ordered another drink. After the drink was made it sat on the bar for a bit while they continued to have a conversation with the kitchen staff some more. During this time two of us had finished our water as they continued to have a conversation. Finally she looked up and went over and brought the drink over, as she started to walked away, we asked if we could get more water. My wife and daughter would have had another drink, but didn't want to sit and wait for it at this point. After the check came, she walked by a few times to see if it was ready to cash out, I felt that was the most she came by the entire evening. While we were waiting, a group of Taiwanese customers entered the cafe and their conversation instantly warmed my heart. To hear Taiwanese mandarin like this was not something I had expected when I moved from SoCal to Phoenix 18 years ago. Onto the food: perfect popcorn chicken with DARK meat! Well seasoned, and not overly battered. The Gua Baos were the STARS of this visit. Soft and warm steamed bread encased perfectly braised thick pork belly slices. The addition of pickled veggies and sugared peanut powder told me the owners are DEFINITELY Taiwanese. Every bite was perfectly balanced with salty, sweety, umami flavors. The spicy wontons were good as well, although the skins seemed a little thicker than I am used to. The sauce was garlicky deliciousness. Their green milk tea was flavorful and perfect at 50% sweet, with light ice. The boba was on the larger side and probably had been sitting for a while, as they weren't as chewy they should be. Next time, will try their custard pudding add-on! I'm so happy to have stumbled upon a gathering place for Taiwanese nationals in Phoenix!
