I drove 40 minutes specifically for the rare steak pho and chicken spring rolls -- as someone who is Asian and passionate about finding quality pho, this was a trip I was genuinely excited about. Walked in to a nearly empty restaurant -- just one other customer -- and wasn't greeted. The AC was off with only a few floor fans running, making the space feel suffocating. After waiting 30 minutes for my spring rolls (in an almost empty restaurant), they arrived with no peanut sauce and zero apology from the staff. By this point I was flushed, short of breath, and feeling faint from the heat and poor air circulation. I politely let the male server know I was overheating and felt like I might faint. His response? He told me the AC was on and to "drink more water" -- in a rude, dismissive tone -- then walked away to greet a new customer. I packed up my spring rolls to go and paid without a word. He didn't seem surprised. It felt like this was a pattern he was used to. After leaving I checked other reviews -- long wait times, poor atmosphere, and rude staff are recurring themes. Very good food! My group had two pan-fried flat wide noodle dishes, a vermicelli salad, and Pho, and everyone really enjoyed their dishes. Amazing flavors and fresh ingredients. Only downsides, we waited quite a while to our food and the restaurant is small so it would get somewhat smoky with the cooking. Rice Paddy is a cozy, family run atmosphere. They get busy because of the fresh ingredients and made from scratch. This place is cute, clean, and welcoming. I love that they have plenty of parking. We had to wait to be seen to order, then the ordering process was a little painful. My friend ordered and then he looked at me, I guess it is my turn so I ordered. He walked away. Ok. It took a long time 40 mins before we got our food. But the chicken wings were the best and then the chicken chow fun was very good too. The food was very delicious and flavorful. Nice place in a converted historic house that has a large Vietnamese menu. Started with three vegetarian rolls crispy and delicious. The absolute lack of concern and respect for their patrons' time is abhorrent. Absolutely zero accountability for the fact that they can't seem to understand that telling people how long something will take is simply a matter of courtesy and if it's going to take longer --TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT!!! Ive placed take out here a few times. Today I placed my usual order and they told me 25-30 minutes. Knowing that they take a while I left my place at the 30 minute mark. It takes about 10 minutes to get there so I thought I'd be perfectly on time. When I got there the food was still not ready, and this has happened 3 times now even with leaving my house late. When I went in the staff was not happy and there was stuff everywhere, it was gross. To put the cherry on top and to make me cancel my order, a staff member hawked a loogie so loud in the back I turned to see him spitting in an open trashcan. I walked in with my spouse around 7 p.m. or so, and we kind of stood around like idiots, not sure if we should seat ourselves or not. So, we eventually just sat down at a table. It was a little awkward. Usually, I would have bounced, but something about eating at a place called "Rice Paddy" had me wanting to try the food, even if the service wasn't great. I'll be completely honest - the service needs improvement here, but the food was very authentic and had great taste. I got the beef fried rice, spring rolls, and pho. The owner came to our table and gave us some background on the food and was very personable. I think the owner just needs some better helpers, or maybe they're just not fully accustomed to United States dining yet. Expected more for $16/$17 a bowl. Lemongrass chicken noodle salad: Not the vermicelli bowl I am used to, mostly lettuce, cucumbers, noodles, and chicken. The chicken had a nice flavor and was tender. So pretty consistent is the lack of attentiveness of the wait staff. To be helpful to you all coming to this place (and it should not have to be this way) but you have to flag the waiter down. He did come to bring water and take my order without prompting, and, besides bringing my order, he was absent. That is actually pretty typical of service at Vietnamese restaurants. I am sitting here right now writing the review and have been done with my food for at least five minutes and no check up on dessert or the bill. Now to the food. I am a vegetarian, and I have to say that I love the lemongrass tofu noodle salad. The tofu was crisped to perfection and the soy sauce was flavorful enough to just dump in about 3/4 of the cup. Finally after establishing eye contact, waiter came over with the bill. All is not lost. And neither is my recommendation for the entree above. If you are coming for the vegetarian food (the ambience is cleaner and more modern decoratively than typical Viet places plus there is English folky music playing over the speakers - think Mumford and Sons), just be proactive about ordering and you'll be set up for success. read more

I've been here multiple times now. Honest review... their food is good but their time management is so beyond bad. Sometimes with a huge party and sometimes with a few people... it takes 50-60 to get our food, even our first appetizer. Most recent time, party of 4, it took 50 minutes to get our appetizer of chicken wings. Table who ordered before us seemed to wait a bit, but we seem to wait a LONG time, each time, for some reason. I think the owner knows my in law as they chatted in Vietnamese, so he takes us for granted. Cuz we always wait forever for our food, more so than other tables, then he comes out to apologize for making us wait and tell us they are under staffed. Everytime? The table before us ate and left before we got our first appetizer. Last time with a bigger party of 9, half the table was done eating before the 4 people who ordered pho got their soups - 35 minutes after the rice dishes came out. It was the most unpleasant experience. Half of us were starving then when our food finally came out, we tried to scarf it down cuz the other half already finished their food and just sat there waiting. This most recent visit, there were only 4 people in our party and it took an hour for our first appetizer to come out. It was hot and the kids were so hungry that they got restless and angry. We wait SO long every time we go. I understand it's a mom and pop restaurant, but I don't understand how you take orders then consistently make a table wait an hour for apps. Or serve the same table entrees 35-40 minutes apart. It's frustrating and my in law seems ok with it but I'm not. We are playing customers just the same. Oily/Fatty broth is what I love. You can drink this broth from the cup. Eye Round Steak- Love it! Beef Brisket- Love it! The only suggestion is to add beef banh mi to their sandwiches. I've been here many times and usually loved it. Tues night arrived about 8:20. Waiter took our order quickly and brought water. Waiter didn't check in with us. Almost 9 when the food was delivered, a table with teen girls finishing up, maybe two others there besides my partner and me. Waiter forgot the drink I ordered. Forgot the spring rolls. What a crazy experience this was... I'm glad I wasn't on a first date here with someone because I would've run out things to talk about long before the food got here. It's a tiny place, about 10 tables, but only one server. Service was painfully slow. The smell of outside cigarette smoke was prevalent. Every time the server went out to the outside tables, which was frequently, a cloud of smoke came through the door. Arizona law prohibits smoking within twenty feet of a building's doors, so this place is clearly violating that law. Our server was not very warm or welcoming. He might not have even said a word. We started with the "Skillet Pork spring Rolls" which were good. These appetizers came relatively quickly. The "Pork Chop House Rice" and "Shaken Beef" was another story. Over 45 minutes. There was yelling between the chef and the server, mostly in Vietnamese, and it was a little bit of a distraction while eating. When we were finished, waiting for the bill, the yelling increased, and there was banging around in the kitchen and several "F" words being shouted from the chef mixed with Vietnamese screaming. It was like a Saturday Night Live skit or an episode of Punked! It was crazy. Some people walked out, others just stared in amazement. The shocking thing was that the food was excellent. My pork chop was delicious and I would definitely get that again. Would I come back here? I don't know. I have such mixed feelings about this place. read more

We ended up giving our food order immediately since no effort was made to take care of us. We then waited 45 minutes for our food--despite being the only two customers in the entire restaurant. When we finally asked what was taking so long, we found out the server had forgotten to put our order in. When the food eventually arrived, it was just as disappointing as the service. One dish had no flavor at all, while the other tasted strongly like black licorice, which made it completely inedible. Neither of us could finish our meals. Wow! This place is a real gem on N 7th Street. They only have a few tables, so you might have quite a long wait if you don't have a reservation or you turn up and all the tables are already occupied. I ordered the stir fry big fat noodles with chicken because I love noodle dishes. It met my high expectations and I now have another place to go for a great-tasting meal. The service was excellent and one of the staff (or was it the owner) came out and explained the spices he uses to us. Parking is easy. What a find! This restaurant is lovely inside and the food is so tasty. I had stir fried big flat noodles with veggies and shrimp, which was a very tasty meal (a lot of food too). To be fair there were only two people working a cook and someone I believe would be maybe an owner. After standing there for a while the person not cooking says "YES!" Not hello or welcome. I asked if I could be seated. He pointed to a table and brought me a menu. Once seated another couple came through the door and he welcomed them with a friendly greeting. With 75% occupancy and to go orders I had to wait a while. I ordered the Chicken Pho. It's probably the worst I have ever had. Extremely oily and no flavor. Normally I don't add condiments but this time I did to add flavor. The soup was served in a very large bowl that was filled with broth, minimal noodles and a good portion of chicken. That's all I tired this trip though they had some great menu options to choose from. When I checked out I was never given a thank you or goodbye.
