Only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the food here wasn't terrible. It wasn't anything special and wasn't any "good deal", but it was decent. The service there was what really hurt the place in my eyes. Our first waitress grabbed menus for our group, walked to a table, literally dropped the menus on the table, and walked off with no greeting or anything. She had a terrible attitude. I'd have ignored this if they were busy since we all have our days, but it wasn't. After that we were consistently ignored, no coffee refills past the small cup we received, no silverware until I asked halfway through our visit, no waters. I'm guessing the original waitress dropped our table because another, more friendly waitress picked us up but still we didn't receive anything unless we waited for someone that happened to walk by. A few times we asked for things and the original waitress must've conveniently "not heard us" although she had no troubles hearing the table of men next to us. Overall, not a place we'll come back to, primarily because of the terrible service. I'm sorry to give a bad review, I usually wouldn't but it was honestly awful. read more

River Road/Santa Clara are mostly lacking in decent places to eat, Terry's Diner definitely hits the spot as far as quality food, prices, atmosphere and prices. Priced competitively with Shari's, Elmer's and similar type sit down chain restaurants, service is great but can sometimes be slow. So sad to see Terry's fall to such a low. We have been dining here for years and always have ordered the same thing. For my husband, cottage cheese and french dip. For myself, chicken fried steak with eggs over medium. Well from the beginning...waitress was terrible, no silverware, didn't ask what we wanted to drink, disappeared forever, never brought us our tab. It's a diner. Most of the seats are ripped, it's pretty tacky, the food is decent, and the staff is rushed. But for some reason, we love going here. They really tuck into the "diner vibe" and do well with it. My coffee cup is always full, and my partner and I have never spent more than $25 total on a meal. Our last trip to Terry's Diner was motivated by a Buy one get one half off coupon and the fact that it is in my neighborhood so we didn't have to travel far. I also prefer to eat at independently owned businesses rather than the big chains that just reheat stuff from their freezer instead of cooking food fresh. I had only been there for breakfast before and it is usually OK for that. The food is exactly what you'd expect of an "American comfort food" greasy spoon diner kind of place, plain and of mediocre quality with nothing to make it stand out. For dinner my companion ordered the rib-eye steak with mashed potatoes and salad. He specified no gravy, but his mashed potatoes came smothered in a weak, clear gravy that looked like it was poured out of a can. The corn was definitely canned. He ended up sending the whole thing back mostly because the steak had no flavor of it's own, it tasted like it had been cooked on a filthy grill, that was all the flavor it had. I had the "Terry's Smothered Chicken" with a salad and baked potato. The corn was not terrible, but it was obviously sweetened with sugar in processing. The salad was a OK, basic plain lettuce, three slices of cucumber and some hard tomato slices. nothing special, but at least was not just a big pile of chopped Iceberg lettuce. I think it may have been romaine. The baked potato was just kind of sad, cooked too long and all dried out with a burnt spot on the skin. I am not likely to go back there again because there are just too many places that actually try to be remarkable in some way to eat at someplace that is no better than a Denny's or Shari's. read more

Good, solid diner food. Vegetarian options for those who need them, good breakfast served all day and the fries are excellent. A nice casual dining experience where everyone can find something good to eat. Service can be a bit hit and miss, but never to the point we've been unhappy about it after the fact. To start out she filled my coffee cup all the eay to the brim not allowing cream & sugar and even spilled it on the table. Really bad service. Food was ok. Being a waitress and a bartender myself this was ridiculous, watching food sitting up in the window for over 10 minutes then come to find out it was my food!!! Not to happy about having Luke warm food, because the waitress was walking around the tables with a pitcher of water and totally walked right past my empty glass. The name is actually Terry's Diner. My parents love this place, but I found it mediocre. It was diner food. Nothing special. No "interpretation" of diner food, no funky specials. My French toast breakfast was two pieces of white bread fried in egg batter. My mother got the Ruben which was served on sliced rye bread from a local bread manufacturer. Meh. I've heard the prime rib sandwich is really good, so someone may one to try that, otherwise, mediocre diner food. read more

I frequent Terry's and usually have good service, today that is not the case! I went in for breakfast raving about the great level of service I received just last night for dinner. This morning I was treated like I was less important than the older (50s) patrons and it was impossible to get a smile out of any of the 6 servers working. 3 people told us they would bring more water and it took almost standing and waving to get some. When they did bring us more water you would think we were cutting off an arm at the inconvenience we were. I am have been in the service industry for years and am appalled at the service I received this morning at Terry's. I will go back being that I have had way better experiences but if it is ever the same as today I will be sure to tell others. read more

This place has become our go to on weeknights we are too tired to cook at home. It's relatively inexpensive and we always leave full. The food is run of the mill diner food...not bad but nothing spectacular. But so far there's nothing we've ordered that we did not like it sent back. Basically, if you're​ on a budget and need a quick easy meal out...it's a good place. The horseradish with the prime rib will know your socks off though....so be careful. My sister and I had a late breakfast here today. Although I live in the neighborhood, this was my first visit, but it won't be my last. We were greeted quickly by very friendly staff and allowed to choose where we wanted to sit. Water was provided immediately, as was coffee, which was quite good (always a nice surprise to find good coffee at any restaurant). Menus were provided quickly also and our order was taken by a funny, but professional, waitress. My sister ordered the Terry's Special Eggs Benedict w/spinach and bacon. She had forgotten to request no hash browns, and when it was delivered she mentioned that she had neglected to indicate that she did not want them. The waitress quickly took the plate, got rid of the hash browns and returned it w/o any attitude or eye-rolling which, frankly, I was expecting, given that she had to make a special trip to adjust the order. I had the half-order of biscuits and gravy with two slices of bacon, which I requested crisp. It took about as long as you'd expect it to take to fix two poached eggs, etc., and put it the whole thing together. The Eggs Benedict was delicious - the hollandaise sauce had a nice lemony tang, the spinach added an interesting flavor and the bacon was crisp. Eggs were poached perfectly. It's hard to mess up biscuits and gravy and they came through like troopers. The gravy was nicely spiced, the biscuits were nice and the bacon was crisp - just the way I like it. During the meal the server checked in on us several times (but not so much as to be annoying/intrusive) to ensure we had everything we needed, offer coffee and water refills, etc. We were unaware until we were almost finished with our meal that there is also a bar in the back; next time, we'll have a Bloody Mary with our breakfast. The restaurant was clean, with interesting decor (lots of album covers from the '60's and '70's stapled to the wall, as well as other memorabilia). I did not see the women's restroom, but my sister did and had no complaints. All in all this was a great place to spend an hour or two for a nice relaxing meal. At no time were we rushed or made to feel like we had to move along. If you are looking for a non-fancy, home-style-cooking restaurant with good food and friendly staff, this is the place for you. It was just okay.. we ordered a Chipotle burger and buffalo fries, and meatloaf with mac and cheese and clam chowder. The meatloaf was bland, but the clam chowder was very good! Save your dollar on the buffalo fries, they taste just like regular fries! The ranch was also very good!! I will definitely try something new next time. read more

I came in to town to see my husband Terry who is working in town. so we went to Terry's for breakfast this morning there was plenty of seating up front and the hostess decides to put us in the very back booth with rip seat and by the bathroom that was like a slap in the face and very rude to a customer. This place was HORRIBLE! Just moved to this part of town and noticed this little diner. I thought, how cool would it be if we have a great little place like this down the street from home, so I had to try it... We stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for about 5 minutes while the 2 waitresses and what appeared to be the cook stood at the back discussing something, never once acknowledging our presence. Finally, someone shows up, sticks us in the nearest booth and is off again. Let's just say, it took another 30 minutes to get a waitress over to our table and get drinks on the table for the 2 of us. The food finally arrived after about an hour and my "rare" prime rib was "well done" , same with my husbands steak. The waitress forgot almost everything that went with the order. I wouldn't have had anything if I didn't keep asking her. To sum up what we thought about the food, the ketchup, ice water and salt were delightful. The rest, unedible. Oh wait, the butter was good as well, made my corn edible. Took another 30 minutes to get the waitress to ask her for check and she showed up sometime later with our card. We were in there for 2 hours, just me and my husband. Good thing we had plenty to laugh at and keep our selves entertained, the decor, plenty room for jokes there, the wait staff, again, lots to laugh at. Our family used to love going to this diner for a good weekend breakfast. We recently visited and it was the first time I was disappointed. I knew before asking, that the ownership had change. The pros about the ownership changing: new, clean carpet and newly painted walls. The cons: over-priced, smaller portions of food, new waitstaff that are slow and confused, and food that is overpriced. Unfortunately we will no longer be dining here. It used to be one of our favs, but down the street you can get a better meal, better service, all for a better price at Shari's (I can't believe I am really saying that :( ). It seem that the new owners are also the owners of El Kiosko down the road, so it goes without saying how this might effect the future of this diner. read more

I like this Diner. Usually have breakfast or lunch with a friend, sometimes alone. Servers are friendly, food is served within 15 minutes. Can't imagine waiting an hour as some have said. I judge a diner by the soup of the day, the chowder on Friday is the best, tasty and creamy, the vegetable soup is good too. Usually have a French dip sandwich, or a salad, no complaints. Got here at 11am and had to wait apx 5 minutes but was greeted. Sat down and three different people came to our table. Then one got us water spilling water on table with no apologies. The got order taken and waits 32 minutes to get food , during this time waited 25 to get a refill on my coffee. Once our food got here I had to s be my food back due to I order the Denver omelette and got a scrabble egg with Afew veggies on it. The second one came and not only was it the same way but the Denver mix of it was cold and had grease on it. Not very appealing. The wait staff was like are you ok with it. Needless to say not a very good experience once again. The service needs help, the food needs to be worked with a little better and for sure if there's an error in the service make it right . This is the best classic diner food I've ever had in Eugene. Every meal I've ever gotten over the years has been incredibly good, with very decent portions as well. While the wait staff has always varied in terms of service, I've never left feeling unsatisfied after my meal. The only downside is the long wait to get your food. I don't know why, but it's always been that way as far back as I can remember. I never go there if I'm short on time, but it's worth the wait for the meal. It's hard for me to give this place a 2-star review because the food is really good. However, every time I've been here, no matter what time of day or how many people are dining, the service is SO SLOW, it's unbelievable. I went here recently (granted, it was a Sunday and the place was busy) and didn't get my food for over an hour.... it was almost an hour and 45 minutes by the time I got my meal. And I really paid attention to what the employees were doing and honestly, it was a whole lot of nothing.... the women walk back and forth, back and forth, back and forth which gives the illusion that they are busy. Then, I heard two of them bickering back and forth... uh, unprofessional?? If I'd wanted to hear bickering, I would've just stayed home and had breakfast with my teenage kids. Also, there were SEVERAL empty tables when I first arrived and those of us standing in line had to wait for way too long to be seated. Totally unorganized!! It was annoying to say the least. And I think there was only one cook... hello.... staff more cooks on a Sunday!! So, if you like good food but you want to sit and wait for over an hour to get it, this is your place. Terrible Dinner! We will never eat at Terry's Diner again. My husband had the prime rib special...if you could call it prime rib...it resembled something more like boot leather. It was very thin, over cooked (not cooked to the medium rare that was asked) and lacked any flavoring. He had to dip it in the au jus to make it moist and somewhat palatable. It was NO prime rib. I had the smothered chicken. No wonder why they have to drowned a flat, overcooked and flavorless piece (or formed chunk) of chicken in loads of bbq sauce. Corn was canned and flavorless. Gravy was from a mix. The only decent thing from our meals were the mashed potatoes themselves, but how can you mess up skin on mashed red potatoes? Another disappointing thing was my son hot dog. How may you ask can someone mess up a hot dog? Well the cook at Terry's Diner can. It was literally a dried up piece of meat left on the grill WAY to long. It was charred and crispy on all sides and in the middle where she cut it open to warm the center. Nice over dried and crispy hot dog bun too. We were very shocked at the quality of the meal and very disappointed. We will not be dining here ever again. read more
