I have an Original Pancake House up the street from my house in Vegas and had visited that place a few times. While visiting my child here in Eugene, she suggested we come here for breakfast. I was very surprised and pleased with this place. The vibe is young, fresh, bright and all things University of Oregon. My server was amazing. She was on point with making sure I have my coffee cup full at all times! You have no idea how much this means to me! The pancakes we ordered were light and fluffy. It was delicious. The bacon, even though the menu said 'thin sliced', was fairly thick. I guess where I come from, when they say thin sliced, it's paper thin. lol Over all, amazing place. Pancakes are definitely the way to go. We had half order of coconut pancakes - the tropical syrup is AMAZING, and the bacon and eggs with 3 pancakes. They asked how I like my bacon and I request crispy. The bacon is thick, and crispy is more like dehydrated than your traditional crispy bacon. We were lucky and came around 8:30 on a Sunday, beating the crowds. We were seated right away but there was a full waiting room when we left. This is a no frills old fashioned diner with an extensive menu so something for everyone. I was feeling simple so I ordered a scramble and the pancakes on the side. The pancakes are everything you would want, fluffy and flavorful. The scramble was simple, like something you would make at home. I only wish the menu offered more combinations to be able to try more dishes because they all sounded so good. The parking is quite tight and they're often really busy so if the parking lot is full you've got to hopefully find a spot on the side of the building. The entrance is handicapped accessible, but the door doesn't have a button and it's very, very heavy. My daughter and I went in and I had my service dog with us and the very, very rude hostess said we don't allow pets and I told her she's a service dog and the ADA doesn't require them to wear vests. Aside it being very cold that particular morning. She had her regular harness on and a jacket on top of that, so you wouldn't see it anyway. Anyway she glared at us and said very, very rudely, "well let me go check with my manager". Not sure why she had to do that other than she's got no clue about the ADA and service animals. She said, again very rudely, "well I'm going to put you in the back" and she did just that. Now if I wasn't with my adult daughter I would've turned around and walked out. The reason I gave the service a 5 star rating is because our waitress was so sweet and attentive. I got the eggs, thick sliced bacon and pancakes with over priced Diet Coke and coffee. My daughter got a tiny glass of orange juice and hot chocolate, which both overpriced! She also got the diced ham, scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. Our food was very good. The drinks were very overpriced. All in all our waitress made up for the very rude hostess. We thought well she either doesn't like her job and or she was having a very, very bad morning! If you're looking for classic American breakfasts with traditional diner style service, you can't go wrong with The Original Pancake House. This one is located near U of O, so if you're visiting a friend or have a kid that goes to school there, this is a great spot for breakfast. We went around 8:30 to try to avoid a long wait, which I had read usually starts around 9-ish on game days. It was perfect timing. We were able to get a parking spot in their small lot (there is also street parking all around), and waited maybe only 5 minutes before we were seated. The pancakes are, of course, the focus here. My husband got the apple pancakes and they were tasty. Our son ordered the French toast, which was also fluffy and delish. I got the eggs benedict and it was the perfect hearty breakfast. I asked for crispy bacon, and they delivered. Service was good; the servers were all friendly. You get your tab at the table and then pay up front at the cash register. Portions were a good size for the price but I thoughts my crepes were just Ok. My husband doesn't usually have an opportunity to get gluten free pancakes and he said these are great. I've been a loyal customer of this restaurant for more than 40 years, which makes this experience especially disappointing to share. I stopped in recently hoping to order food to take back to my brother while we care for our dying parent and can't leave at the same time. When I arrived, I was told the kitchen couldn't take to-go orders. No worries, I offered to wait for a table instead and planned to order once seated, then take the food to go so I wouldn't tie up a table. The hostess was kind and understood the situation, but said she needed to confirm with the manager, Eileen. Unfortunately, after checking, Eileen not only declined the request but removed my name from the waitlist altogether. When I tried to explain the circumstances--simply to make sure she understood why I was asking--the response was abrupt, dismissive, and surprisingly rigid. I left without being able to order anything, feeling disappointed that a place I've supported for decades couldn't offer even basic compassion or flexibility. This experience was surprising, hurtful, and far below the standard I've come to expect here. I'm sharing this to encourage management to review this incident internally--policies matter, but so do empathy and professionalism. read more

Food is very high quality - love the 49er flapjacks- thin, plate sized, buttery pancakes. They have a nice kids plate with pancakes or French toast with either bacon, eggs or sausage. Where do I start. I've never had a denser, drier "pancake" in my life. Which I tried to overlook by washing it down with the dishwater coffee until I noticed not one, but TWO hairs in my hash browns. Okay, whatever, I'm generally understanding of a business having a rough day for whatever reason. But the fact that my food took 45 minutes to arrive at a calm, non-busy time of day leads me to suspect they have addicts of some kind working back there. As if this place couldn't damage their own reputation more, when I tried to pay my check I noticed a $5 up charge for who knows what! Upon leaving, I noticed rodents of some kind running out from what I can only assume to be their backdoor/dumpster area. Came here on the way back from our trip and after a recommendation from my parents. A nice little diner with some solid pancakes. I got the two by four which was two eggs (I got them over easy) and four pancakes. The pancakes aren't gigantic which I enjoyed as they are very flavorful. The staff was incredibly friendly and the diner is clean. Parking kind of sucks here though as it gets packed fast and there's really just one way in and out. It is unique and definitely something you want to try. Think of a cross between apple pie and a breakfast dish with eggs/soufflé. Hands down best breakfast I've had in years. I've been to another original pancake house in LA but I've never had the peach pancakes! It's a must, don't even worry about the extra time wait because it's totally worth it. It was huge and delicious, tasted like a peach cobbler, pancake, melt in your mouth goodness. It was so flavorful with the cinnamon and syrup almost tasted like a dessert. The banana pancakes were so good, big slices of bananas it was cooked perfectly. Contacting you to inform you of our worst customer service there on 11/12/24. My wife even wrote it on the invoice and we left no tip because of the overall experience. The hostess who sat us, brought us menus, silverware and waters and was very pleasant. However, that is where the good service ended. Its not like the establishment was that busy that day. It took almost 10 minutes for the server Mariella G. (name per our receipt) to come over to our table, who seemed to not like her job and was only there for a paycheck. Three other tables that were sat after us got their drinks before us. And in two cases folks that were seated after us got their food before us. I keep seeing her standing behind the servers station not doing pretty much anything aside from dirty looks or scowl on her face. When we placed our order, our server was rude about saying they were out of biscuits and gravy. What breakfast place is out of biscuits and gravy? It seemed like our visit kept going downhill. First, let me say that our family drives over 2 hours (early in the morning) to get to Solvang to have Danish Pancakes at Paula's Pancake House. Everyone in our family makes that pilgrimage. It is a time-honored family tradition based on our belief that the pancakes there are the best and worth the effort to get there. Phenomenal and worth the wait! 5/5 - Dutch Baby: Oven baked and served with whipped butter, lemon and powdered sugar. 4/5 - Killer Bacon: Thick and crispy The server was wonderful! She indulged all of our conversation. My husband told her that the only thing that would have improved the Apple Pancake would have been some fresh whipped cream... And she brought some out to us! Amazing. My husband wanted to compliment the owner who was there and the owner took him on a tour of the back of the restaurant! He made my husband's day. I came in for something to eat after my treatment at the cancer center in Eugene ( 05/27/25 ) and we did not know at the time when the restaurant was closing , This being said the young girl that was our waitress was rude to say the least she acted like she did not want to serve us at all , like it was an extra chore , this kind of waitress needs to be spoken to about her entitled personality , we are not planning on coming back any time soon even though this was a place we would stop by before or after my cancer treatments but I guess we need to find another place that will treat us like our business matters I was very disgusted / disappointed with that service to say the least James O read more

My daughter and I waited only about 10-15 minutes before we seated and it was definitely crowded. To me that was a good sign because it let me know that it's the spot to be.
