Reasonably priced, tasty, and pleasant to average service. There are 2 locations in Eugene, this one seems to be quieter, slower paced, and has a smaller menu. The waffles tastes good and were over all more filling than I think the average person would expect. The coffee they use is also very delicious. read more

I love waffles (it's in my top 5 foods) so whenever we go anywhere on vacation, waffles are always one of my top searches. Off the waffle showed up on my yelp search and after checking out the menu, I was like yup, we going here. There were things I knew all 3 of us were gonna love. It was pretty busy when we got here on Sunday around 10 but I guess people sleep in and eat breakfast later. We are actually early eaters but this place was on the way to where we were going so 10ish just happened to be the time we ended up here. We got a table outside since inside was full but luckily it wasn't too cold out. My son loves Nutella (and so does my husband) so we got the wiffle for him which was Nutella and bananas. I ordered the Brie prepared which was had pears, Brie cheese, and onion jams with maple balsamic drizzled over it. One of the workers suggested the goat in headlights so my husband ordered that. We shared all the waffles... let me take that back. My husband and I shared but my son ate his wiffle all by himself. We did sneak a bite tho and it was yummy. I wasn't a fan of the chèvre cheese on my husbands waffle but I'm not the biggest soft cheese fan. The waffle itself was great alone and I'm wondering if maybe I should get a plain one next time we go here. Delicious! Friendly and fast service. I ordered the savory and my sister had a plain with strawberry and Vermont syrup and we both cleaned our plates. All of the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. it doesn't look like much from the outside but we spotted it from the side of the road and especially liked the picnic tables on the side to be able to sit outside. Most of it was good but I cannot excuse hiding gross brown/black avocado under the eggs I would have paid more for actually good avocado . Alright, so this place is good, but don't get my stars wrong up there.. maybe Pinterest, blogs and such hyped this place up just a bit too much! Xx Upon walking up to this place I was excited, this was on a road trip bucket list.. and we were finally going!! It was a Tuesday morning around 12pm and not very busy- about half the restaurant was taken up. We were all excited to order so we sat at a table and looked over the menu. I saw they had orange juice that was freshly squeezed and it was the best part of this experience. (Pictures attached) It came within 30 minutes and looked great but wasn't our full order- it came out half and half about 5 min apart and our orange juices came AFTER our food LOL. My husband ordered and actually paid for two extra syrup glasses (1$e) that didn't come and my meal didn't even come with one for a 10.50$ waffle. Ugh. So we enjoyed our meals- I will say the waffle was good but it does seem pre maid and refrigerated beforehand. The outside wasn't as expected, I was expecting a sugary light but crispy crust as described.. it was almost too soft on the outside and grainy inside. My children's omelet egg wasn't cooked fully and we normally don't eat undercooked eggs from a establishment when traveling. I was disappointed. My husband and sister in law liked theirs though. A cool thing is they have waffles for purchase to take home right in the front! They're 15$ for 6 plain waffles. (I wouldn't pay that, but I am a decent cook). After finishing our meals we were getting ready to go, we had paid! We paid good money for breakfast! We were told we bus our own tables. After already tipping our 20% I was a little ticked off to be honest. I have paid way less for a meal and received better service. I will not return when visiting our family in Springfield OR. Was craving a good waffle. Stopped in here to kick off Spring Break. I had the "Goat in the headlights". Nothing short of spectacular flavors with a perfectly cooked waffle. I had my egg over easy instead of the sunny side smiling. It had goat cheese and a special paprika blend with basil chiffonade on the top. Wow! I practically inhaled that goat. I quite frankly don't see what's so spectacular about this place. It's waffles. I think it's overpriced, given its waffles. They make you pay for something as basic as syrup. Which I think is pathetic. It's just a way to nickel and dime you, when it should be included for the ridiculous amount you're already paying. My husband had a waffle with some sort of fruit, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. The whipped cream was clearly out of a can and tasted bland. The waffle seemed overdone. It was hard and super crispy, almost to the point it was hard to chew. This would be where the syrup was needed to soften it up a bit, but we had to pay extra for it. I had an omelette. Which was alright. Honestly, it seemed very small for an omelette. I had bacon with it, which was completely overdone and had a burnt taste to it. Which required copious amounts of water to wash it down. I read rave reviews about this place and more than one friend recommended it, so I had high hopes for it. I thought it sounded tasty, and it was! My side salad was fresh and had a nice variety of greens. This was my first time here, and the staff didn't tell me that coffee is self-serve. I requested syrup after I received my food (the waffle didn't come with it) and she told me we usually charge for it, but she gave it to me. A waffle without syrup?? That I don't get. The restaurant is small, the lines are long and you are asked to bus your own dishes. Do not let this detour you! This is an extraordinary waffle that is more cake like and a little sweeter than most. The presentation of each waffle is unique and artfully decorated with complimentary food choices. I mean with WAFFLES all around you, who couldn't be happy? OK... can we talk about the WAFFLES now? Deliciousness with a grid pattern. Think less like a typical Belgium Waffle and more like a French Croissant batter, which is A-OK with me! Honestly, no syrup necessary... and oddly for a waffle joint, syrup is extra $ (but these aren't normal waffles). Next time I go I am definitely trying the Strawberries and Whipped Cream topping! Prices are a little high for a breakfast place, so be prepared for that as well. However... This is by far the most Oregon breakfast, and the best waffles that I have ever had in my life! Visiting here in Eugene & we ate here 2 days in a row, each at a different location. Really enjoyed the unique waffle, I'm usually not a fan. But I loved these, had savory style each time & they are delicious. Wonderful with fried eggs over the top & bacon. Swizzled with yummy balsamic reductions or maple syrup. Worst service ever! After waiting 45 minutes for our food, multiple people after us served and already finished with their food we went to the counter to see how much longer we had to wait. The server said 20 minutes and there were still two before us. I looked around and asked how that was even possible as everyone had their food, no one was in line and we had already waited so long. She said they were busy. This made absolutely no sense. When I questioned 20 minutes she was rude and said yes 20 minutes. At that point if she would of apologized and just let us know they forgot us or messed up and they would make it immediately I could of waited and been fine. Went there on 12/08/21 for lunch. When we first stepped in the place was empty, not even the wait staff were present. After a few minutes we left. Three young men came in as we were leaving. We came back about 30 minutes later as the three 20-something left. I saw them busing their own table. They all had frowns. I could see the tubs of dishes were full and the area around it dirty. It looked to me like this mornings dishes or maybe even some of yesterday's as well? A woman appeared behind the register and asked us , "What will you have?" We ordered ( 3 of us ) and then I asked , "How many kinds of syrup do you have?" ( after all it's a waffle place!). She replied, "We have only one kind." I asked, "Maple?" and he nodded yes. She told me they only take cards, not cash. After running my card she turned the screen to me. It had options for "tips". I advised her I generally tip after the meal. She replied, "Whatever." She handed me two little mason jars for water and a coffee mug. The area around the coffee and water dispensers were dirty. Our table was the least sticky one and I could find nothing with which to wipe it down. Crumbs on the seats and smears on the window. Even before Covid this is unacceptable. Our meals arrived. I would call the waffles half-waffles ( 4"X8" ), barely warm, hard crusty, and swimming in syrup to the point it mostly hid the taste of the awful waffle. My coffee tasted exactly like new grounds were dumped over old ones then brewed. Undrinkable. During that time only two other people showed up and they brought a go-box of food in with them. We finished , bused our table and left. I noticed a few other full cups of coffee ( paint remover ) in the tubs so I guess I wasn't the only one disappointed. Anyone could get a fresh, tasty waffle at Denny's or Elmer's , throw bacon and cheese and eggs on it and be far more pleased than this place at near half the price. We usually go to the downtown location but last weekend we were in the area and decided to stop in. The waffles at this location do not taste fresh, they taste like they are made somewhere else and reheated. I got the Brie prepared and it barely had ANY Brie or onion jam but a LOT of old mealy pear. I know that the other location is usually on point which made this visit disappointing. I was an early Off the Waffle fan having tried them out after reading several 5 star reviews on Yelp in late February 2009. The waffles were stellar. There was plenty of room to hang out and the turn-around was quick. The fillings were plentiful and cheap ($4 for a waffle with 2 fillings, I believe). There was free iced coffee to boot. Fast forward to recently and the place is always crowded. While I'm sure this is good for business, it's horrible for ambiance. It seems like there are rarely enough places for everyone to sit. Turn-around time varies a lot; the last time I went with friends, some of us got our waffles after only a few minutes, while others had to wait 30+ minutes. The fillings are far more expensive and I feel like the portions have shrunk significantly. I also feel like the waffles themselves aren't quite as good as they used to be. They seem to be less caramelized on the outside, which was the trait I always found the tastiest. The waffles are still okay, but they just aren't what they used to be. I agree with Brooke C. about the weirdness of the online drama between the Off the Waffle establishment and yelp reviewers. It's particularly amusing since the (now deleted) 5 star reviews that lead me to Off the Waffle in the first place were posted by the owners under fake accounts (I'm not the only one that noticed, see comment 9 here for more information on this: http://culinariaeugenius.wordpress.com/2009/03/07/waffling/ (Note: I am no way affiliated with this blog or comment)).
