I have been eating at Terry's Diner for 15 years, and have always enjoyed it. Today I tried to have hash and eggs, and I got the worst meal I have ever been served at a restaurant! The hash was completely inedible, not rancid but very oily with a very strange taste. It was 99% potato, and 1% meat. I could not eat it! (I had 2 bites) The hash browns were the same. I walk in stand there with noone greeting me. Finally have to ask for a menu feel more like a burden then a customer spending money. Order my food finally for takeout covid etc. Eggs Benedict ham was overwhelmingly salty. Not the vibe at all never going back. read more

What was once a family favorite for more than 15 years is now a sad reminder that I should have cooked at home. This is a good hole in the wall diner. Good service, good food, great breakfast. You must try their coffee cake, we sometimes get a large to split later on. My husband, son and I ate here this morning and before I talk about my negative review I just want to mention how positive the FOOD tasted. I ordered the Ranchero Ortega omelette with a pancake and boy was it delicious. Pancake was nice and fluffy. My husband ordered the corn beef hash and it was really good as well and the portions were decent for the price we paid. I know you guys are wondering why I gave this place only 2 stars if the food was really good, but I'm sad to say that the vibe we received from walking into this place, to eating and leaving wasn't too friendly. And I'm all about customer service! Because we all know besides our food being on point, customer service plays a big role as well. Our waitress was pretty nice, (didn't care to get her name) but the gal (short haired) that seated us (close to the restroom, meanwhile customers after us were seated closer to the front) and the other super tall waitress (who addressed all the other tables in the diner besides ours) very rude! She went around asking customers about refilling their drinks/coffee. We didn't order any coffee, but still to be acknowledged and asked if we still needed more of our juice or water would've been nice. The customers that were dinning at this time (10:30ish AM) were rudely staring as if they've never seen people of color. Let me not forget to mention that I did notice other customers who ordered their food after us was served their food before we were. Must've been a culture shock to these individuals, I guess. I'm originally from Southern California, Pacific Islander decent, and I've never experienced such a vibe/customer service. Neither have I or my husband along with our son had felt so uncomfortable to eat our food with judging eyes/people just rudely staring. It's unfortunate to say that my experience of eating at Terry's wasn't pleasant at all, but happy to comment about how good the food/pricing was. Terry's has a good diner menu, with some modern surprises. Good food, priced well, in a clean environment. The diner is well attended and popular in the area, while not being too crowded. I love the diner food and experience, but they need help with their wait staff. The two waitresses that have been there the three time I have went to Terry's are overwhelmed. My last visit was this morning at 9:00 AM. Waiting to be seated, another customer and I had the wait staff walk by us three times without even acknowledging we were there. After waiting 4 minutes I counted 9 tables not looking at menus, and or no food. So, I left. The customer that was waiting ahead of me soon followed. This is a management issue, not the fault off the wait staff. Every time I have been there, including today the staff is working hard but cannot keep up. read more

I can't believe I've lived in the River Road area for 15 years and have never been to Terry's diner! I brought my family of 6, plus one, and everyone kept asking why we had never been here before. We mostly ordered breakfast foods for dinner, and even though they were big portions, we ate every bite. Waffles, French toast, bacon, and omelets were all a hit. Need to come back to try the coffee cake. Our server was warm and welcoming, and even the other customers seemed friendly. We will definitely be back! read more

We came on a monday at 9am. It wasn't busy. The service was very quick for our family of 5. The food was very good. I had the bacon scramble, wife had french toast, kids had pancakes and french toast. Coffee didn't taste burnt, hashbrowns weren't greasy and the kids ate everything on their plate. read more

This place has great food and horrible service. Our waitress was so rude and surly I was actually afraid to ask her for anything! When we sat down she walked by us several times wiping tables without even looking in our direction. When I finally asked to order she shamed me saying "I have other customers to serve." This is clearly a training issue no front of house manager so the wait staff have zero accountability. This was my second experience with poor service at Terry's Diner. The first time the waitress was eating at the cashier stand and brought over my credit card with greasy hands. I go here when I am visiting relatives in Eugene, Oregon. It is within walking distance from their home, and they are very late sleepers, so for breakfast, I just get up and walk to Terry's. I love the stoplights on River Road which actually talk to you-- "It is now safe to cross River Road. The cross sign is on to cross River Road." or "Wait. Wait. Wait." We don't have them in Phoenix yet. I can't wait until we get them. No one mentioned all the crazy crap all over the ceiling and walls. There are chairs and desks literally nailed to the ceiling. It's fun just looking at the ceiling while you are waiting for your food to arrive. The eggs benedict that I had was good. The hollandaise sauce was fine and the muffin wasn't hard or over-cooked. What I like even better is biscuits and gravy! And the portions here were large, and just what you'd expect from a diner like this. Good comfort food. Food is ok, the decor makes it cool to pass the time because it's old nostalgic stuff. We don't go here often but when we have the service has been fine. There was a strange smell before we left today I'm not sure if it was vinegar to clean a coffee pot, because I did smell bleach pryer to this or if it was a patron that stunk of cat urine or possibly someone who has their drugs on them. I don't often post pictures of my food, but this is the best little Diner ever! Omelette cooked through, slowly, so not browned, and hashbrowns crispy and served with butter. Haven't been in here for months. Pleasantly surprised today. The walls have been cleaned and painted. It looks like the torn and ripped booths have been recovered too. Much nicer on the inside than it used to be. But more importantly, the food has improved. The coffeecake was back, tho a little smaller but the wife says it tastes great. My Sweet Lorraine omelet was full of good crisp bacon and spinach as advertised. We will return again more often. read more

I tend to eat healthier than this, but when I want a burger and don't want to cook or go to Cornucopia, Terry's does the trick. I believe they get hormone free meat, their bacon is thick, and the fries just fine (nothing extremely special). We occasionally go for breakfast. The hashbrowns are pretty good. Mostly go because we are lazy and they are close to our house. Coffee-thumbs down. It's watery and they don't have sugar in the raw anymore. Fun diner in the Santa Clara neighborhood. They serve a great breakfast! Their stuffed hashbrowns are ridiculously delicious! The menus has a wide selection of omelettes - so far all of them have tasted great. And if you order a biscuit on the side, just wait - it's huge! Decent lunch menu offers some tasty burgers and club sandwiches. Service is decent if it's in the afternoon or evening, but pretty slow during the breakfast rush. All of the waitresses are super friendly. The decor is 1950's-60's, but could be presented better. I am always surprised to hear modern pop/rock music here... I'm in my late 20's and would love to hear some oldies to match the setting! This is our go-to breakfast or lunch stop for the River Road area. I have, since I turned 70 and found that peppers, onions, cheese and the dreaded garlic do not play well with my GI tract, and have said that ALL breakfast places are indistinguishable from each other when it comes to a basic breakfast. (WOW so that's a run on sentence!) You know eggs & bacon, ham sausage and toast with taters - the basics! Well shut my mouth I have found the exception to that thought! Hit Terry's yesterday and will return! I enjoy tasting my food and not condiments. Anyone - you too, Fiere - who thinks that garlic, peppers or onions is what 'flavor' is all about is not clear what flavor is. NOTE** if you are one of these people here is a MONEY SAVING TIP: Buy condiments only! OK back to Terry's-- I ordered, from a very pleasant lady, a ham & bacon omlette. It was served piping hot and very quickly. My bride, of 44 years, had Huevos and is still talking about her meal. My 'simply basic' meal allowed me to tastes the main components of the meal. Great tasting ham - bacon that tasted like bacon not burnt ashes from the bottom of a campfire. No cross contamination of flavors from other flattop preparations. For those who find that "atmosphere" is needed to enjoy food they will be be transported back in time. Yes it's a 50's cafe! Noticed the staff was, when not interacting with clients, cleaning up. No accumilations of grease, dust etc;, All in all I will return and try other flavor sponges such as pancakes to see if the clean taste of what ordered comes through. Interesting decor with a table and chairs on the ceiling. Would love to see the addition of place settings on the ceiling table. Well staffed on a Sunday morning. A bit busy but not a long wait for a table. My coffee cup was rarely empty quick on the refills. Food took almost an hour to get. Had great company so we enjoyed our wait. Food was fresh well made and hot. Some things are better cooked slower and my Denver omelet with hashbrowns perfectly browned and crisped was one of those things. Companion got the basic breakfast with bacon. Came with 4 slices he gave me one. It was a thick cut meaty bacon strip that was also a perfect crispness. All in all well worth the wait. I am guilty of expecting what I want immediately with all the fast precooked food available. I forget how nice it is to wait for food to be made well not fast. read more

This establishment was definitely one of the better in town, not so anymore. I haven't been in since early '09 and the quality and quantity of food is disappointing to say the least. I ordered the 8 dollar breakfast "special", what I got could be had at McDonalds for 1/3 the price. My friend ordered coffee cake that was one of the main reasons we used to go there, it was a tiny slice, a bastard of the former pieces.
