This week I am visiting family in Veneta OR, I was looking for a local bar to catch some football, I remembered seeing a newer bar that took the place of an old local restaurant , I stopped by the Long Tom Bar and Grill off of Broadway street. As you walk in the right side of the building has a traditional dining area with many tables, the left side has a very large bar and poker machine area, lots of additional seating with a pool table and an oversized TV wall with various sports playing. The location has many seating options, the menu has many bar favorites, I tried the buffalo wing basket, its served with fries, celery and carrots. I had the first half of boneless wings buffalo flavored, I then had the other 6 wings in a garlic and parmigiana flavored sauce, they were good sized, well cooked and with a lot of flavor, the fries had a soft batter. I would recommend this dish to anyone. I also noticed that they have a large breakfast menu with many options and another menu for Lunch and Dinner. As far as the bar food it was very good. The wait staff was very friendly and followed up a few times to make sure I had what I needed. I had a Bloody Mary to go with my food, I was happy to see my bill, was under 30 dollars. Still going strong! Philly is still perfectly done. Toasted bun with caramelized onions and bells. Loaded fries were incredible. They are definitely loaded and make a meal on their own. Full of melted cheese, green onions and chunks of bacon. The fries were done well and it was a hit! Bar drinks are also available and I tried to throw them off by asking for a Separator. No problem, they got it right! (Look it up, a smooth creamy drink) The service came with a warm friendly smile, they were very attentive. Everything was very clean and well lit, this is a good family friendly place for a meal with roomy booths and tables. read more

The atmosphere was really nice and there was a nice assortment of the menu. The waiter was extremely awesome an even complimented my shirt!! They got my order slightly wrong by forgetting to make my burger plain but they immediately apologized and insisted on making me a new burger. Really funny waiter and really nice place. I am really glad to have another option out here in Veneta. This place really needed to open up. The building sat vacant for far too long. They did a great job on the inside, it is nice, and clean. Plenty of seating on both sides. I am not too impressed with the menu items. I was pretty disappointed in it. I'm not sure exactly what they could give, or take besides breakfast. It was just not interesting to me. What I did order was the south west chicken salad, which is a go to of mine at some places. It has pretty much everything on it that all the other places have. Where it lacks, they offer just ranch. Most places have a chipotle ranch on hand that they make with a chipotle Tabasco sauce mixed with ranch, or something similar. I asked for chipotle, and what I received was an aïoli sauce. I ended up just taking it home, and putting my own dressing on it. We also had some mango habanero wings. These were really good. I would order again. I will have to say this is not one of my favorite places. I wish the menu was better. I really want to like this place. I do. I also really wish they would get the dressing for the salad I order at other places. Because it is sure closer to my house. read more

Made the drive out on a hot Sunday to try a new place. Long Tom's was a great stop. Cold beer, amazing service and a great burger and Philly cheesesteak. Ample amounts and well made. We will be back, maybe a night they have live music. read more

Had lunch here with friends. Got the Buffalo Chicken Salad. It was quite good, serving wax plentiful. The gal serving our table was a bit short of personality, but that's ok. We came back! Exactly one week from our last visit. Don't judge, it was good last time. This time I have a FEW "issues", but overall we still enjoyed. I do think our waitress this time wasn't as experienced as the one we had last time. We never got more napkins, refills, or checked up on as much- though we were right next to the salad prep area, & kitchen window. We could see and hear staff talking behind a tiny little half wall behind our table- and lots of f*** words were said talking about their days etc.... I wasn't thrilled at this as we have a young child. We were just trying to enjoy our meal... no need to hear your work or life drama. Unprofessional imo. We got 1 special, and then an 8oz steak with a side salad, and Mac & cheese. The Hawaiian special was extremely small in portion size for $20. The rice was over cooked and crunchy. Overall not impressed with the quality or quantity for price! My steak was good and the side salad is huge, but this time the lettuce was not chopped very much so some leafs were giant. A few brown pieces I had to pick out as well. I'm being picky here, but last time it was amazing so this time I am lacking the same experience. The mac & cheese side came in a huge bowl compared to last week. I wasn't complaining, but may want to be consistent with serving sizes for future. Won't be fun to come back if the sizes are different each visit. I noticed it was a different cook tonight. Could be why. Anyways our food was overall good. Last visit our waitress really took care of us and our food was incredible. This time it was still good and I left full, but as I listed there were a few things that were not consistent. First visit to Long Tom Bar and Grill. Very clean and good setup. One half is bar with a couple pool tables. Restaurant seating for families and children is on the other side. I had a Pilsner with a tasty bacon cheeseburger and tots. Cheeseburger is very flavorful and tots are crispy with good flavor. My wife had the Chicken Parmigiana sub sandwich. Really good. The staff was nice but it seems like a "disdainful old men only" sorta place just from the unsolicited looks and attitude of other customers. Mom and I are basic blue collar painters. Our neighbors recommended Long Tom to us. We have always enjoyed the food there, and we have brought several family members with us on other occasions. Everybody has enjoyed the food there. Had mothers Day brunch. Got the long toms, mothers Day. Special, hashbrowns were cold, i got one egg when i asked, and they made me a second egg (should have been 3 eggs), and toast was barely toast. This is the second time we have eaten there, and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

We have been looking forward to trying Long Tom as Veneta is very limited for good places to eat. We waited til the initial opening excitement was over before going for a meal. To be fair, we gave them 3 different visits before deciding that we won't be returning. We first came for lunch on a Saturday and the experience was promising. Our waitress was attentive, the food was good - my husband had the meatball sub and I had the Long Tom Burger. Fair portions of food, and a good cold beer, we were pretty pleased and knew we wanted to come back. Our second visit a week later was on a Friday night, about 5-ish, before the dinner rush. I had the BLT with onion rings and my husband ordered the Long Tom Special with sweet potato fries and a salad. Again with a very good Dead Man's Ale. The salad came with very large chunks of rusty lettuce, and the bleu cheese dressing was remiss of any chunks of bleu cheese, very runny and thin. When the entrees arrive, they looked appetizing enough. The steak was thick, cooked medium rare, but the cut was odd. Thick but narrow, almost like a fish filet. Very sinewy. The sauteed onions were undercooked and not caramelized as expected. The sweet potato fries were good and they were plentiful. The BLT was served on toasted white bread it was the driest BLT I've ever had. Three total pieces of overcooked dry and crumbly bacon, huge pieces of lettuce and overripe tomatoes, with the slightest hint of mayo or miracle whip, not enough to moisten the sandwich or hold it together. I usually love onion rings and these were sadly very dry and lukewarm. Our last visit was today, popping in for lunch on a Saturday, noonish, and they weren't busy. We were seated quickly enough, and got our drink order, but then it dragged out to a half hour and no sign of our food. We saw the kitchen counter piled with plates of food, but they were all for other diners. We waited and we waited, watching our waitress take drink orders for other tables, and still no food. We eventually decided to leave, it was just taking too long, and though it wasn't the waitress's fault, we told her we couldn't stay and we left. The ambiance of the place is definitely bar vibes, and the smaller booths on the inside walls are small and tight. The booths along the outer walls are nice and roomy and could comfortably seat a party of 4 to 6. It's not especially bright inside, and the area near the kitchen seems to be where the waitstaff all congregate and it gets pretty loud with their chatter. The partial wall does little to separate the dining room from the kitchen. It's a bit austere and limited for decor, retaining much of the appearance of The Farmhouse that was there before. read more

Our first visit here. We went to see the band. When we arrived, there were a couple of parties before us and we were told it would be about 25 minutes. No problem but then we got a table in about 10 minutes...strangely enough before the other parties that were there before us. Then we saw why. We were seated right next to the restroom. One of the least desirable tables in the place. I wondered if it was because of our slightly advanced age. We ordered the fish and chips and were asked if we wanted tots or fries. Fries we both answered. After an excruciatingly long wait, our meal was finally brought out...WITH TOTS! "Are these fries?" I asked. "Oh, you wanted fries" the server said. So she returned the food and soon brought it back with fries. The cole slaw was good, the fries not bad but the fish was the worst I've had. Mostly breading and totally tasteless. The Pepsi that she brought was totally watered down by the time the food came. One couldn't see the band because there was a wall between the tables and the stage. The restroom was for both sexes with a sign to knock before entering, so the stream of people coming and going, asking us if it was empty was endless and not why I go to a restaurant to enjoy a meal.
