Their prices are ridiculous. I do my big shop at Winco, which is consistently 20-40% cheaper than Safeway etc. Ray's is on a whole other level. Bread is $3 more per loaf! On occasion, I have needed something that the Grocery Outlet does not carry, but I always resent being ripped off. read more

I can't believe how bad Ray's food place is ripping off the local (working class) community in Mt. Shasta. Ive lived here 20+ years (my entire adult life) and all of a sudden, I can no longer afford to shop at the cheapest grocery store we have... These items cost me $60 + some change. But hey, it's been voted Most Likely Place in Veneta-Elmira to Catch COVID.* It's November 2021 and in my first five minutes in the store I saw three employees wearing their masks below their noses. The ice cream aisle always smells like bleach. I've traveled in more than 30 countries and almost all the states, and I can't remember a grocery store so unpleasant. It's like the corporate office is giving a big middle finger to the people of this community because there is so little to chose from as an alternative other than driving in to Eugene. In small, somewhat isolated towns all over Oregon, one will often find a Ray's Food Place. They seem to love to set up shop in these geographical locations, and they all have this in common: horrendously inflated pricing. This one is no exception. They know they have the locals and visiting tourists over a barrel. Sure, you can drive 11 miles into Eugene and find Winco bargain pricing, but you have to make a 22+ mile round trip to do it. May as well bite the bullet and pay a much higher price for what you need nearby than make that trip. I was recently in this particular Ray's in Veneta, Oregon. I needed a bunch of green onions on my way home. Winco price would be about 59¢ a bunch. Ray's price for the same item? $1.79. I just about choked when I saw that. Decided I didn't need them after all, turned around, and walked out. Maybe some of the Ray's Food Place stores can justly attribute the extremely inflated prices to the cost of shipping/transportation, but with a lot of them, well, I'm not buying it. Veneta, Oregon now has a Bi-Mart and its prices are the same as their Eugene, Oregon locations. If they can offer this, well, kind of thinking that Ray's can to... but the thing is, they don't want to. They want to stick with what I refer to as "isolation advantage pricing." They adhere to the same high pricing even when cost of supply/wholesale is a non issue. You can be darn sure you'll never see a Ray's food place set up shop anywhere near Fred Meyers in Florence. They'd die there at their standard pricing. But shuffle north up 101 to Waldport, Oregon, and hey presto! A Ray's Food Place! Same customer over a barrel screaming high pricing. So, when I know I'm going to be vacationing in a spot where the only supermarket is a Ray's, I always plan ahead by buying what I need at a less expensive store and bringing it with me. read more

Several years ago the rays in Merlin had a really bad reputation for over charging customers at the check out. well looks like they`re at it again! 5 days into their sale and the computer are still charging the full price. Customers comment and the next day they still haven`t corrected. if you call it to their attention they will begruntly correct ur recept, but most don`t notice the over charges. I think it`s intentional, and they should be glad you caught their mistake? Buy 2 of the same sale items and they charge full price for price for one of them. Utterly outrageous prices... but they have a near-monopoly on the area, so why not? I suppose one could drive into town to the W. 11th Walmart, but gas costs money too. Ray's Food Place, Veneta Oregon. I know that Ray's is a chain (I've visited the one in Creswell also), but I kind of feel like they need to change the name of at least this location to "Ray's Food Gettin' Place." It just seems like it would be more appropriate. Ray has always come through for me when I've needed him. His food gettin' place stocks what would be considered an average, say, Safeway/Albertson's selection, but with some added perks and bonuses. A more complete selection of brands, a few organic options, some better beers (read Ninkasi Tricerahops and similar) in the beer cooler, and even some local food products. It's like an Albertson's with a conscience, and that's just fine with me. The folks that work at the food gettin' place are nice, and the space is clean and similar to your average grocery store. It''s right on the highway and convenient to the surrounding recreational areas of Fern Ridge and Oregon Country Fair. I will always choose Ray's over any national chain option, especially a low-end national chain. Any time I need to do some food gettin', that is! read more

Ray's is definitely a terrible market. There is dirt from carts inside the west doors that has been there for months. On the floor under where they place carts, there is trash that again, has been there forever. Throughout the store, there are grubby corners, vegetable pieces on the carpet runners in the fruits and vegetable department, and the store windows have been dirty since I don't know how long. There are a few friendly clerks at Ray's, but they are the exception. You can walk through any aisle where a clerk is stocking shelves and they won't even bother to look up. There's one clerk in fruits and vegetables - a young man with a moustache - who won't even bother to move if he's blocking your path. Prices in Ray's are ridiculous, and almost without exception, cost 50 cents to $2.00 more than identical items across the street at Bi Mart. The only place in the store where you can be assured of friendly service is in the meat department. The folks there are very knowledgable and friendly. Hopefully with the growth coming to west Lane County, we'll get a decent supermarket. Then Ray's will either evolve into a responsive market or go out of business. read more

Some of the locals avoid this place during the famous hippie week known as The Country Fair/ Festival, when they have the naked hippie parade in July. During that week, it has been reported that old grown up hippies wander in here stoned, eating stuff off the aisles, and one was seen eating pickles out of a jar, then putting the jar back on the shelf. So far, I've had their baked goods twice, and once they made me sick. I've quit getting their baked cookies. The people and staff in here are very nice, and you have to love the locals for supporting this place over WalMart. I love Oregonians for that. read more

If you like paying mountain prices, this is the store for you. I think the only thing that must keep them in business is the large amount of people shopping with other tax payers money (oregon trail card). I've lived in this community since 1989 and will not shop here unless it's an emergency. Sure would be nice to see some competition come to town. read more

We visited Ray's Food Place in Waldport. The employees were friendly, and they have a little bit of everything. Sure, you pay a little higher price but what do you expect in a more remote location? It's not like it's on the I 5 corridor. If you don't like the prices, then come more prepared when visiting the area and buy your supplies elsewhere. Personally I like supporting the local businesses and employees when visiting various places. This Rays has a little restaurant inside where you can get a burger basket for $5.50, good price and it's a tasty burger. read more

This business hurts the local economy and forces the locals to pay absurd amounts for basic needs. I thought that the updated building and selection would be a welcome addition to the community but the fact is it all came at an extreme cost to the customers. You can find cereal for 2-3 bucks a box in Eugene 15 miles away, but Rays will charge upwards of 6-7 dollars for the same product. The price on meat is so high that their steaks are out of reach to all but the most frugalless or desperate. 18.99/lb for meat that should be 7.99 a lb, the chicken is always yellow and never looks good. The community is in desperate need of a place that can supply basic needs at a reasonable price, and Rays only exploits us... Thanks jerks.... read more

I shop here only when it's absolutely necessary. Prices are way too high. Much of the stuff I buy, I can get cheaper at Dari-Mart. About a year ago, I was flabbergasted when I put one pound of hamburger, a can of Campbell's soup, and a couple of single ramen noodles packs on the counter and the lady said it was going to be almost $10 bucks! The remodel is nice, I'll give them that. But if any real competition opened nearby, they wouldn't last a year. Rays, a.k.a. rip offs, has some organic food and lots of wine and beer and tobasco. High prices results in produce going bad on the shelves. Don't pay enough attention to what non perishables are selling and what is sitting on the shelves for weeks. Products that are always scarce due to popularity sometimes disappear off the shelves altogether. Here in Oregon this chain seems to gravitate to less populated areas, so they are the only option in town. Very nice people at our location, but they have a high turn over in general which suggests they are not good to their employees. They do hire elderly and people with disabilities, which always attracts me to a business. If we are going to our neighboring larger town soon we skip going to Rays. read more

My husband bought some flowers there and came directly home with them. When we unwrapped them, probably half of the petals fell off and laid there on the paper. They must have been old and certainly were not worth the money. Since the new management took over at the Veneta store, it has not been a good place to shop. read more
