I stopped by Sundance to take advantage of their hot and cold food bar and salad bar and was pleasantly reminded of just how good it is! It was like coming home as I used to frequent Sundance during my college days. It was so clean and the food was so fresh and hot or cold. Everything was so delicious and I will definitely be choosing Sundance over my usual Market of Choice default. I loved the variety and especially appreciated the clear labeling and all vegan options. This will now be my go to when I need a quick meal when in Eugene. The pricing is on par with MoC. I lived in Eugene several times over more than 20 years and last in 2015. Sundance has to be the coolest natural food store I have ever been in. I love the folks who work here and the vibe. I do believe it is all vegetarian with heaps of vegan options. They have local produce and feel it is all organic. A wide variety of mushrooms and a great bulk section. The hot and cold bar are both phenomenal. My biggest grip is that when I lived here prior in years past the sandwiches were much better. I used to love the TLT aka tempeh lettuce tomato and reuben. Fast forward to the Summer of 2023 I ordered a pesto chick-unsandwich. I found it underwhelming. It was very dry and wasn't fresh. For $8.95 USD could have been much better. I also tried the Tempeh for another meal as I packed both for later. The Tempeh Reuben was only slightly better than the other sandwich. Both sandwiches were underwhelming and it is too bad they weren't as good as when I was last here. Pro tip: Go with the amazing salad bar and hot bar. Be sure to check the dates aka when the sandwich was made and best by date. I loved the hot food deli. THe potatoes were amazing! I swung by for a quick solo lunch, and I was able to grab a few things. I also really appreciated their tea section and all the choices of tea. And, I picked up a few other things when I was there. It is tight quarters, but manageable and the team was all really friendly and helpful! And, another reviewer said the parking lot was tight/competitive at lunch- that is true I experienced that and ended up parking on the street around the corner-luckily it was manageable with the groceries I got to walk back to my car. The produce section was really beautiful. I bought some plums, and some graffiti eggplants the last time I went as well, and they have really good baked goods that are vegan/ and gluten friendly. read more

This is a great place for natural foods. I get my Kimchi (spicy Asian slaw) and my wife gets her essential oils along with some of her vitamins and other stuff here. If I had to say something negative about this place I would say they have too much stuff packed into a smaller store so at times it's a tight squeeze if another shopper is looking for the same thing... Love this little unassuming place. It's not a big market and while some item choices are limited and some prices higher than at a traditional grocery store, you will find items not on even on the radar at a traditional grocers. Noticed a wide assortment of organic bulk items with terrific labeling including the source. The granola and trail mixes are clearly labeled, which is much appreciated. And you can bring your own containers, if you so choose. Wide variety of healthful options on the hot and cold bar. Appreciate the labels with ingredient listings, the ability to taste and the variety. We needed a total of 4 meals while on the go. The hot section has a few items to choose, the salad bar can be combined with the prepared foods. Each item we chose had its own flavor and texture. The cabinet of freshly made cookies, macaroons and bars tempted us twice and I'm not sorry we caved to the goodness within! Parking at peak times can be tricky so be patient if there aren't any spaces when you arrrive. read more

After all these years, Sundance is still here with a great salad bar! The salad bar is fantastic. Organist and fresh. Many tempeh and tofu options. They even had pumpkin seeds this week! Also they had a yellow (curry?) potato salad that was so good! A++ salad bar in this small grocery store. Very tasty.. my salad was $14 (by weight) and worth every cent. Parking can be a challenge, staff is nice, small vegetable plants outside for sale for summer growing (last visit early June 2022), lots of organic options. read more

So expensive! 7 dollars for 16 ounce soup is ridiculous when I can get the same from the cafe next door for 5 dollars that's prepared by a chef and comes with fresh baked sourdough... also there's just so few options for anything frozen like ice cream and no good snacks. One crappy brand of popcorn and 2 brands of ice cream. They wait until produce is practically rotten to put it on the half off shelf. On the upside the supplement folks are extremely knowledgeable and usually friendly about questions. read more

I am so glad we found this place. It seems like chain health stores have really put the smaller shops out of business. While many bug stores have a lot of items they are missing some classical health food store staples, like carob powder. I've been looking for carob powder, not chips for months. An employee at Whole Foods told me to try here and shockingly they did. They also have a wide variety of items Whole Foods and Natural Grocers does not. The prices were reasonable considering they are more of a specialty shop. I'm really happy we found this place. Now I can make amazing and delicious treats for pups. If you can't find what you're looking for, give them a call, they probably have it in stock and there hours are awesome.....open until 11!! read more

This place is fantastic! The 50% off produce is such a great find. Their bulk foods section is awesome. Tons of local organic produce all of the time. It's the only place I can go when it's time for me to take a dish to a party or dinner and I don't have time to cook or feel like cooking. I can get something from the food bar, write the ingredients on the box, and no one has to worry about allergens in their meal at that event. They sell sticks of butter and Coconut Bliss bars individually. Sweet. Fantastic supplements area. Sales on stuff that you actually want to buy. Candy section with awesome natural sugary stuff. I could go on and on but I will stop now. The point is -- it's amazing and I am SOOO glad that it's here in Eugene! read more

A little bit on the expensive side but still fairly reasonable for a health food store. They also heavily discount things that are about to go bad. I got a loaf of sourdough for ~$2.50 and it was originally $7.00. All you have to do is pop that baby in the freezer and it'll last well past expiration! Does not have much here and the patrons are inconsiderate. It's difficult to make my way around the aisles without having to say "excuse me." And then not getting any sort of response or any movement from the person in the way. The place is tiny and it smells too. When I go grocery shopping, I don't want to smell sweat, stinkiness, and just sheer unpleasant odor. Well, that's what it's like in this place. Get a ventilation system or repair the current one... I prefer Capella Market or Market of Choice. Capella has so much more variety and practically everything I need for a vegan meal (not that I'm vegan or anything). I don't get decent customer service at Sundance. The employees don't smile too often nor are they very pleasant. I remember walking in this place and just getting this mean "get out of here" look from one of the cashiers. It was strange, and I didn't like the vibe. There are so many other places to go for good produce and local products, and Sundance is not on my list. Plus there is not anything at Sundance that I can't find anywhere else. As far as hippie stores go this is the best. Picked up a few 22oz brews from the beer cooler in the back and was very impressed with the care and consideration they have put into stocking some of the best microbrews available on the west coast. The selection is not huge but it is diverse and thoughtfully selected. Five star beer stop. Yeah, the food bar is good and they have a decent fine cheese selection too and their hours are good. They carry a good variety of bulk coffee, grains, flours, seeds, etc. Occasionally, the items seem a wee bit outdated, but its understandable. We appreciate having a local hub for natural foods in a non-commercial environment. The cashiers can be a little spacey sometimes, so check your receipt. I lived in Eugene for five years and I liked Sundance, just fine. It was down the road from my office for three of those years, and I would duck in for the salad bar... oh, and I confess, the macaroni and cheese on the hot bar. Do they still have that?It was supposed to be healthy but it tasted like sin in a carton. Now my father in law lives in Eugene, and this is the only place he will shop. He only eats organic food... he went through a raw diet stage.. he buys a lot of supplements and tinctures... kind of obsessive... he's a big fan, although I doubt he eats the macaroni and cheese. We were in here the last time we visited to get some good bread and some apples. It is cramped, smells like patchouli, and is just the same as it ever was. The parking stinks. Before I moved to Eugene, I always used to stop by Sundance whenever we were driving through town. It was just the perfect little health food store to grab a bite on your way to Portland. It has a delicious hot and cold food bar and a great selection of healthy beverages. Now that I live four blocks from Sundance, I am so happy to stay that it is still my go to for natural groceries and snacks. I love their self-care section and their bulk section is also AMAZING! They do have a small parking lot, but if its full you can snag a spot in the lot next door. They have a 50% of veggies section for produce that is blemished or on its way out, and I can always find some stuff that is perfect for making dinner the day of. Their hours are 7am-11pm which makes them a perfect place for early morning or late night food. You won't be sorry you did the sun-dance! read more

I'd like to recognize Sundance Natural Foods. Today I rhode my bike there for some excercise and for some healthy items I had on my mind. I like Kombucha..and I was thinking of fruit to put in my brew. They have a wonderful selection of fresh produce. However.. I just made my batch so it won't be ready for fruit just yet..so I looked around for ideas. I searched through the hair care skin care section..and found a box of natural hair dye. I'd been considering dying my hair but didn't want to put chemicals in my hair..but looking at this box promised me none of that. It's called " Light Mountain Natural".. I just washed it out..had it on for four hours..and surely it did what it said. My hair has a redish tent to it being medium brown naturally. You can definitely see the difference. It works great! And is a healthier option if you're not wanting chemicals. Great price too! It was 6.00 and something like almost 7. Not bad! Way to go Sundance! Sundance Grocers is one of those local Eugene business's thats seen Eugene through its ups and downs. It's that long term boyfriend that's just there for you, no matter what. All analogies aside, Sundance is simply wonderful. Their layout is simple and easy to navigate, dry goods to one side, with herbs and tinctures taking up a small portion of the middle of the store, to fresh fruits, veggies and deli foods on the far end. Their employees are some of the nicest, most helpful employees I've ever encountered. They really go above and beyond to assist you. I recently went in to buy some dried rose hips for my newest addition to my family, a chinchilla. I've been struggling with what to feed her because everything is dangerous for them. The lady who assisted me not only helped me locate the rose hips, but also suggested I contact a local vet to ask them some more questions that I was having issues getting answered. She even tracked down another employee to ask them about fruit bearing sticks, and advised me to find a nearby farm that might give me some sticks. The other employee told me that they were going through winter pruning and would be a great time to ask them for some sticks for my new furry friend. They gave me more information than I even needed! And all because they are just wonderful. Love giving them my business over all the others....except maybe Market of Choice...because they're so close to my house..and I'm a little lazy. Ha ha. Anyways, come sniff around Sundance, ask questions, try some of their deli food, they won't disappoint. read more

Stopped in this cute little market while in Eugene for the day and found some of my favorites on the shelves --my favorite organic applesauce mixed with apricots.... my favorite Santa Cruz raspberry limeade.... Mary's Gone Crackers Black pepper flavor... I know. A picky list. But their fresh produce was beautiful -- if I had room in my fridge, I'd have stocked up. Really wonderful looking tomatoes. I do like Sundance quite a bit. Their salad bar wins me over. Great options ( raisins! Corn, goat cheese) that you don't get from every other salad bar in town. Plus all the ingredients are organic. Lots of toppings from white pepper, flax seeds, nutritional yeast, kale etc. Great hot bar too. I usually have to get some mac n cheese. I appreciate how you can mix with the other food and lists are provided. I was going on a soup spree for a while when they had a split pea soup! So good. Good produced with competitive prices. Nice selection of herbs, teas and granola. Big selection of vitamins and I usually grab a kombucha too. Staff is really sweet- never had a problem. The only thing that I don't get was mentioned in other reviews as well- what's with the customer's seemingly rude behavior??? I too have asked, "excuse me" to people blocking the entire isle and with no response or movement. I'm not talking just one occasion and I'm not meek. What am I missing? Then I have to awkwardly maneuver myself around the person. The store is not big but easy for at least two people to share. I've ranted about this to friends and I've had a few share similar experiences. So odd. Please be polite to each other. read more

A seriously legit health food store, complete with hippie cashiers, a tofu-dominated salad bar, and a dozen types of kombucha. I was so thrilled to find Sundance during my trip to Eugene. I wouldn't compare it to Whole Foods because it's tiny and sources mostly local foods, but if you're serious about raw, vegan, organic foods this place is a godsend. It's super small so hard to get around during rush times (lunch), but a great place to stock up on healthy snacks, bulk food, soup/salad bar, or vitamins. Going to Sundance for the first time was a fantastic continuation of the ideals I had laid forth in my mind about Oregon and a simpler way of life. Okay, I know that sounds convoluted, but it fit my expectations perfectly. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I was just 17, still in high school and in Eugene visiting my ex-boyfriend for a week from Lynchburg, VA. I had never been to the Northwest. We walked in after having been at a friends on Harris Street. It smelled of wood (all of the shelving is wooden), herbs, beeswax candles and warm food from the hot bar. The lights were mellow and inviting as well. So, my ex took me back to the frozen foods section and told me I had to have a Rice Dream Pie. So we grabbed a couple. I wandered around. Over to the produce, around the hot food bar, and there on these great wooden shelves were tons of juices...I grabbed a Boysenberry Knudsen. I still think it was the best juice I have ever had. Anyhow, once I moved to Eugene we lived a stonesthrow from Sundance. It was a mecca for out of town hippies, many of whom ended up claiming floor space in our rental. Those were interesting times to say the least. As time went on Sundance remained one of my favorite places to grocery shop, however I couldn't always afford it and ended up going there for the hot bar mostly. Their produce is the best. The medicinal section- great! Staff was always knowledgeable and helpful. Also, the bulk section leaves nothing to be desired- awesome! The layout of Sundance is so nice (as is the neighborhood it occupies) that I can't help but shop here on occasion, even though it's out of my way. I'm always able to snag some enticingly priced mushrooms, (hello, you gorgeous Oregon white & black truffles) beautiful local produce, and hearty deals off the half-price produce shelf. I especially like Sundance's suggestions board (which is honored quite frequently! I once requested Rouge et Noir's triple creme brie, and found it on shelves two weeks later), the hot & cold food bar (surprisingly, creatively delicious), and the bulk tea & spice section, which features well-kept, high quality, harder-to-find items like Ceylon cinnamon sticks & green jasmine pearls. The bulk section in general is well-maintained, abundant in variety and full of quality products. I always feel nurtured & mentally nourished browsing through the aisles, which is not something that can be said of my late-night runs to (the otherwise beloved) Winco, or my too-frequent Safeway supermarket snack sweeps. I LOVE THIS PLACE. They used to stock Sweaty Betty Blonde Beers, which are so good. I popped in there last year and to my dismay they were all out. I couldn't find the beer ANYWHERE else. So i placed a call into Sundance just asking if they knew when they were going to get more. They weren't going to order it anymore, but the beer man there placed a special order just for me!!! And didn't charge me any extra for the special order. If that isn't enough just to get you in there and check the place out maybe the salad bar will. I LOVE the salad bar. I like that they have a wide range of 'extras' that you can shack on for more flavor. Like granulated garlic, flax seeds, sesame seeds, course salt, fresh pepper, yeast, nutritional yeast, hot pepper, and so much more. I am on a pretty low fat diet but when I have one of there salads I know I am with in my cal intake but I feel like I am having a special treat. They also have really great house-made soups. I've been shopping at Sundance since I moved to Eugene in the 80s. This little store has managed to have the most consistently awesome organic produce in town for decades running. I can't always afford to buy all of my groceries here, but when I have the time, I still stop in for produce. Some other great items of note: their vitamin and supplement section is as competitively priced as any you will find in town. The baked goods are amazing, especially the gluten free pecan chocolate chip--and we are not a gluten free family. We get 'em because they taste that good! read more
