The food truck is outside, and all done by one chef. That's to say, the food is made fresh and patience is needed. Thankfully, inside that had a great selection of local and international beer so I bought a 6-pack for us to enjoy while we waited. There were also colorful characters enjoying food and drinks outside who talked with us at length. It was really pleasant to be able to wait comfortably. It might be run of the mill for locals; I'm not sure if this is a large chain that's all over the place or if it's less common, but the produce, meat, and cheese departments blew me away. I just want to rave a bit about this particular section of the store - most everything else was similar to what your expect. I've never seen such a large selection of items in a grocery store deli before... it was honestly slightly overwhelming to pick just a few items to try. There are individually wrapped chunks of tons of different types of cheeses, dried meats and prepackaged ones, accoutrements like breadsticks, olives, mini jelly and jam jars, and more. It was amazing. The bakery case was a whole other story... I have the biggest sweet tooth and can't get enough of baked goods, and their displays were absolutely gorgeous. I unfortunately didn't purchase anything from this section, but I can only imagine it's delicious lol. The Market of Choice Bakery is always my go-to, but they went above and beyond this time…read more My daughter's birthday is always on or around Thanksgiving, and this year was harder to arrange than usual. The first place we tried to reserve cancelled on us (after we already sent out invitations.) The second place we reserved for a party took the reservation, and I even called one day before to confirm, but when we got there, no decorations, nothing set up as ordered, and no apology. I had ordered a cake and a bounty board of treats from the Market of Choice Bakery, to bring to the party at the second place, a week early. Even though I ordered ahead and had two verification emails, when I arrived for pick up, they had no record of my order. Needless to say by this point I was just so disappointed. Nothing was working out for my daughter's party at all. They apologized sincerely, and while I waited, they put together a selection of treats and a cake for me. Then, to my gratitude and surprise they did not charge me for my order. It was deeply appreciated, and a bright spot in my week. The cake and other pastries were amazing, and made the party, even with no decorations, and missing party guests, my kiddo was happy and they saved the day.

Bakery issue... We ordered a cake for my son's birthday. I…read morehad ordered cakes through them at this location over the years maybe 10 times. They're expensive so I generally save ordering from Market of Choice for a special birthday... not just an average one. It was $60 and it looked BEAUTIFUL. My first indication that it wasn't going to be all that good was the fact that while cutting it after singing happy birthday, the frosting was coming up in chunks, not staying flat on the cake. It was really odd... but the reason it did that was that their butter cream or fondant was thick as can be... in fact, there was much more chunky frosting on the cake than actual CAKE. And the frosting, due to its thickness, was coming away from the cake in slabs. Several of the kids (and my family, too) just ate the cake from the center and left the other half of the piece that was on their plate alone- the "frosting". The KIDS said the frosting was too thick and too sugary. Yes, the kids. Us adults had issues with it, too... and it was in the center, as well, between the 2 layers, which made them separate in a weird way, too. The cake, except for the bottom 1/3 of the lower layer, was ok. The bottom was either overcooked or it was freezer burned from being a frozen layer of cake and used when it was needed... and it was hard and darker (darker yellow that the rest of the white cake layer)... and so it wasn't edible, either. It looked amazing. But the fact that it was supposed to be edible food was problematic. Normally, I'd not say anything but a few of the ones we'd gotten from them over the years had the same frosting issue except that it was the fact that the frosting was SO MUCH of the overall cake, that it was ridiculous what was paid for it... and, again, it was THICK, LIKE A MASSIVE BLANKET molded over the soft layer cake inside. Anyhow... not a good bargain at $60. That will be our last Market of Choice Bakery cake.

Cold Springs Tavern in Santa Barbara, Nepenthe in Big Sur, then we come to Osteria DOP and all agreed the food here was unmatched. The best. For driving many hours, I liked that the atmosphere was casual, but it still looked modern and nice.
