Show up and plan to stay a while. Everything about this place was fascinating. The wall of looseleaf tea was particularly astounding. They have a small magnetic display of containers that lets you visualize and smell each type of tea before you purchase. I was particularly enamored with the vanilla rooibos. I love the vintage setting in this aging building. The coffee shop next-door is phenomenal and the local home goods store across the street is a personal favorite. The trio would be an excellent way to spend a meandering afternoon and indulge yourself in fresh coffee, natural products and a few things to upgrade your home interior. Parking is really easy in the dedicated lot and the location is quite central. Prices are very reasonable and the employees were very friendly. I didn't see a bathroom so you might have to go next-door to the coffee shop. Next time I visit, I want to try the shortbread near the checkout counter. read more

Mountain rose herbs does not like dealing with customers and has unpleasant poor customer service. I was planning to order more essential oils and remembered how unpleasant they are and am now going to order my lavender and rose from anywhere else but here. Here is an example, the person you get on the phone will 80% of the time sound mean or unhappy. That type of thing starts at the top. The owner or managers must be pretty dark. Then, if you have an issue, forget it. They want your money and tough luck if anything is wrong as they will not fix anything. I had placed an order for multiple items on Sunday and realized I forgot to add something important. I called them early Monday morning before it could ship and spoke with someone. Their staff either sounds paranoid, indifferent or annoyed. Usually, companies can add an item easily over the phone to an existing order. But they can't or won't do that. They can take a new order over the phone. But I think they needed an email to confirm canceling the order. I didn't want to pay shipping twice. He or she said my items weren't shipping until Wednesday so I could cancel my existing order and place a new one. I sent the email early Monday. Something happened where they didn't see my email and the shipped my order missing the important item without checking back in. As soon as I saw the shipping notice, I called and brought this to their attention. Keep in mind, shipping is around $12 each time so it's a lot and combining the one item in with others was important. When I see the email, "your items have shipped" and they find my email about canceling and creating the new order, they don't care. Most companies would say, "Don't stress. Well ship you that item with free shipping because of the mix up. We don't want you to pay twice for shipping." That is not at all they way they do things. They act like they are doing YOU a favor by selling anything to you. And, any mix up or problems is YOUR fault and they are not doing anything. I bought some pretty tins of tea and one tin was really dented. Again, they don't care about making things right with the customer. I don't know if it is stinginess, greed or just problems with the spirit and heart of the owner or those who work there. They certainly splurge on their catalogue. They do not love serving people. They do not go the extra mile. We need to like both the product and business practices of a company to buy from them. Years ago I was trying to make my own deodorant, which didn't work out because the arrowroot powder and ingredients in handmade deodorant are an irritant my skin; however, their products are high quality. More recently, as I've become aware of how amazing a cleanser a simple solution of vinegar and rubbing alcohol is, I've purchased a few essential oils to put into my cleaning solution so that it cuts down on the vinegar scent. Some favorites have been spearmint and orange. The bottles are small and some of the scents can be expensive, but since you only add a few drops they're going to last me for years. read more

A few years ago when I found dead insects in my dried red clover blossoms, I was told I was being refunded as a special exception. More recently, I received a bottle of borage seed oil that tastes like dead fish. I was first told this is an indication of its exceptional quality, but after pushing the issue finally received confirmation it is rancid. (Which was termed: "Our QC team has completed their inspection, and unfortunately, they detected some off-notes during the organoleptic inspection of the lot.") I was told, "You can choose to use or dispose of the original bottle as you see fit," which I find concerning; rancid oil should not be used in any way, even topically. It took over two weeks to receive confirmation the oil is bad and I received the new bottle one month after placing the initial order. Absolutely terrible customer service! I would give zero stars if I could. I placed an order on 12/13/18 and triple checked on shipping and it said items should ship within a few business days. I know because as I stated I triple checked this. I am not sure if it was not displaying correctly due to the fact that I placed the order on my phone, but I know for sure that there was no message indicating delayed shipping. I can see that message now, but it was definitely not there when I placed my order on 12/13/18. I called on 12/17/18 to inquire about the status of my order shipping and they had a long waiting time so I opted to have a customer service rep call me back. The rep told me when she called me back that all orders placed on 12/13/18 were being shipped that same day so I was no longer worried that my order would get here in time. I still did not receive the shipping notification as of today so I called back again. The manager of customer service was basically calling me a liar insisting that the delayed shipping notification was displayed when I placed my order and would not listen to me and kept trying to talk while I was trying to finish what I was saying. Her name was Kathy and she should not be a manager because she said she was going to hang up on me and not to call back and then did hang up. Kathy told me she was sorry I didn't see the notification when I placed my order, basically implying that this was my fault. Terrible customer service. The store location has a great layout lots of sample(s) to test/smell and a layout that doesn't make the store feel cluttered despite having a ton of inventory to select from. I have been using Mountain Rose Herbs for a while now. This review is for the online store and not the retail one. I love the herbs that I purchase to make teas with. I have had lessons from a couple of the customer service representatives who have taught me a lot. I am very grateful for their knowledge of the products that they have shared with me! I am limited in what I can eat and drink due to medical issues. I have been educated very well by the employees online as to what I am purchasing and also all my questions have been answered by very experienced people. For that I am truly grateful. The only thing I hate about your business is the very long time I have to wait to get what I purchase. I am paying for Priority Mail. That is 1-3 business days from the date that Mountain Rose Herbs actually sends out my package. They don't work weekends. Okay. No Problem. Neither do I. But to find out that MRH doesn't send out my package until several days after I purchase an item is crazy! I realize that MRH has lots of customers. I realize that I am not the only person. They have a plethora of dried herbs o make your own tea, tinctures, sauce etc.. They have aromatherapy stuff. They have things you need to make your own soap or your own salve. Or, if you don't feel like DIYing, they have all that stuff already made and very nicely packaged for you to buy and use, or gift or what ever. I will say that they tend to be out of everything I am looking for when I walk in there but it's still fun. I will also say- the staff seems to be "happy to help you but we are actually Apothecaries, not sales people." You will be treated like an equal, not a customer. Going down hill fast. We used Mountain Rose Herbs for the last few years. We noticed that starting in 2020, before the COVID-19 issues, shipments were taking much longer than usual, even when we paid for Priority Shipping. Since the COVID-19 issues, it has gotten to the point of being ridiculous. Email questions go unanswered for days, if at all. Shipping is taking a month or longer with Priority Shipping. While we understand the challenges of having to deal with the pandemic, customer service is all but lacking. For example: An order placed on April 21 still has not arrived and it's May 14th. Today I picked up a bottle of their sunflower oil, it's neutral scent makes it perfect for topical application of essential oils. They have great free parking, beware if you're a large truck, it can be challenging. They sell a arrange of herbs, teas, elixirs, lotion, containers, oils, bags, tea accessories ect. Tons of organic products and educational materials. The list of pros can go on and on, they have a great catalog and online site as well as their local spot and they're exactly what is great about Eugene culture. Cons/Suggestions: the store declined my card, declined the card of my friend next to me. ( we both went to another established in the shopping area and they ran fine) their system is old, the worker explained. They also couldn't accept a prepaid visa. Additionally, they failed to inform me that two of my items were out of stock. I found this surprise out, when I pulled up my account, on the MRH Website. Most stores would notify the consumer, immediately, of out of stock items and then ask if the consumer wished to make a substitution or have the difference refunded. MRH did nothing. And to top it off they only issued a refund for 1 of the 2 out of stock item [nor is there a partial refund on the shipping cost]. I speculate that the delay may have been due to MRH attempting to wait, to see if the out of stock items would become available. If that was the case, they should have communicated with me. I would not have had a problem, had they communicated with me and offered me options. In this instance, it seems like they just pushed my order to the side and forgot about it.
