THE spot for your non-branded (and *some* branded) UO merch and for just about anything else. Seriously, this place has pretty much anything you want (even a pharmacy!), but you may need help finding things. Hiron's uses the same principle as dense urban areas: when real estate is limited, build vertically! The place it quite literally floor-to-ceiling with gifts, merch, sundries, goodies, and sooooo much more. The only minor knock is the 'organization' can be a touch shaky, but hey, throw in friendly service and that lack of sales tax in Oregon (I'm not local and love that) and WHAM! winner of a place. One of my wife's fave takeaways from a visit to see our Duck is a T-shirt from Hiron's; she always gets complements on it! You're on your own with parking since Safeway shares the lot and it can be like playing Frogger getting to the door (with you as the frog). Prices are fair and match the value, but if you need UO with a swoosh....then you can overspend elsewhere. I have never left Hiron's with less than five items, including my very first visit when I dropped my Duck off three years ago. This place is just overwhelming with the amount it has to offer. It's easy to walk past things you would actually want since it's soo packed with stuff/junk. However, I think this is a fantastic place to get fun/funny gifts and souvenirs for people (which is exactly what I did). The variety is definitely there so you'll be able to find something for everyone. I honestly kept forgetting it was an actual pharmacy with how crowded it was. 3 stars because I definitely got overwhelmed before I was able to go through the entire place. I love Hirons. Or rather, I've come to love them. When we went here when I was younger, my mom had to kind of drag us here. But I like that even though Tiffany's (the other independent store/pharmacy in town) closed down long ago, Hiron's keeps chugging along. The store can be a bit overwhelming at first because the aisle are really, really narrow, crammed full of stuff, and it can be tricky to maneuver at times. You'll find Duck gear, lotion and other bath stuff, cards, a pharmacy, gift items, a post office, and more. The store has a jewelry section as well, and it is much larger than the Franklin store (probably at least three times as large). I bought several sterling silver rings and earrings here that I love, and they were at fantastic prices (the earrings, for example, were $11-12 per pair for small sterling posts). They support local artisans and have various items made by local folks. You'll find souvenirs here, lots of Eugene and Oregon-related decals... it's just a treasure trove of stuff. I will say that it's pretty annoying that they make you show your ID with your debit card--I think if it's over a certain dollar amount, so not every debit transaction. But the whole point of the chip system is that it's more secure, and things like checking ID aren't necessary... and also, it's a good thing I happened to have ID on me because then they wouldn't have sold me the ~$100 worth of stuff I had? Hmm. Is this my favorite store in Eugene? Maybe; it's certainly shortlisted. It's a fun store to wander around in, for sure. read more

Pharmacy has ruined the store: I would give this Hirons pharmacy ZERO stars if I could. The pharmacist plays with the elderly's medication and call doctors despite written orders to get the fill date changed, they put families through traveling and waiting times, the pharmacists have no regard for the population they are serving. This has been done several times to my elderly mother. I was a prominent Hirons shopper, and because I've seen what the pharmacist does to my mother, I will no longer be shopping there and getting the items much cheaper somewhere else. read more

All of the plants in front of the store are wilted and dying, or dead. They are really sad and pathetic looking!!! (If you're not going to water them, why try to sell them?) The pottery had signage on the shelving that said "artisan" but every single piece of pottery looked identical, so I'm fairly certain it was mass produced, not "artisan" as advertised. I try to support non-franchised, locally owned businesses and I grew up with my family frequently shopping at Hirons. But the quality here has really gone downhill, which is sad. read more

Hiron's is like a locally owned Long's Drugs Store. Most of them are tightly packed with all sorts of thingamcbobs, whodiddilydoos, and whatchamccallits. A lot of which are collectible figurines and other craft type stuff. They have tons of candy, jewelry, and cards. It's a great place for a college student to find stuff to populate their room with colored lights, glow in the dark stuff, etc. The staff is really helpful if you need it also. Friendly staff in an unusual store with a pharmacy. The pharmacist, Jerry is a nice guy with a high efficiency of support staff. They're always busy but willing to answer questions and assist with prescription questions. The store itself has more than anyone can ever imagine. Knickknacks from tiny fairy figurines to Mardi Gras beads to UO shirts. Wind chimes to chocolate. It's a wonderful place to visit. I used the HIron's pharmacy to fill a prescription 2 weeks ago and then to refill the prescription again today. I will never, ever fill another prescription here. The pharmacist was extremely rude to me when I filled the prescription the first time. I gave her the written prescription and she input it into her system without checking to see if the medication was available. Then when she told me she didn't have it, she wouldn't give me the prescription back. She told me if I found another pharmacy ("a big if") that I would have to have them call and transfer the prescription. Um, what?! Both times I filled the prescription I had issues with it being ready. I wasted nearly an hour of my time waiting for prescription's to be "labeled". Even though I ordered the prescription twice they refused to label the bottle until I came to pick it up so they could give it to someone else if I decided it was too expensive. It was $30. Really?! You're going to waste an hour of my time over $30 after I already said I wanted the prescription. I'm started to think maybe they do this on purpose so you have to burn time in the rest of Hiron's "shopping". I'd rather use the big "goliath" of Safeway if it means my time and money are not wasted. If you are looking for a cool giftshop, Hiron's is an excellent choice. If you are looking to fill a prescription, go somewhere else. read more

What a fun little store. It ranges from gag gifts to collectibles, with boxes, bags, wrappings etc. also lots of personal items and household items too. Expect to spend some time here as there is so much to see and their prices are good too. Hiron's defies easy categorization - which you've likely gathered from other reviews. Imagine the love-child of a local CVS or Rite Aide crossed with a New Orleans Mardi Gras and you'd have a pretty good idea what's lurking amid the structured chaos of this kitschy treasure house. If you have a proclivity for roadside bizarres, flea markets, garage sales, NASCAR accidents, small-town fairs or just happened to have missed the officially-licensed Oregon Duck gear available at the UO Bookstore, this is probably a bigger opportunity than you bargained for to deck yourself, your friends, your pet, your home and your vehicles out in Quack Attack attire. The store has a multitude of other offerings, even (cough cough) Oregon State Beaver gear (once a rival, always a rival). I've never gone too far down the rabbit hole to report back from the outer reaches and far walls. But if I were a Martian and could make only one stop on the trip home, or for anybody needing a crack at last-minute anything -- this would be the place. The prices, as you can imagine, are all over the map. One second you feel gouged. "Outrage!" The next you're marveling at the red-hot whoosit you've just gotta have (hide the wallet and/or wife/husband as required). By the same token, steer clear of the entrance if you're A) a tightwad, B) a spoilsport or C) have little tolerance for scandalous come-on items at the grocer's. This place would make the perfect date-night dare, as in, "I dare you not to be seduced by at least one utterly superfluous something." If that doesn't work, consider this: it won't simply be Chinese light manufacturing you're enabling with your purchases. There are a surprising number of Oregon-made items tucked among the shelves! Mind, they won't always be easy to spot. GO DUCKS or some-such slogan may provide a clue. When in doubt, look for the MADE IN OREGON label. Eugenians are clever animals determined to try anything to make an artistic living. Avoid converting this into a drinking game and you should do fine. Oh, and if stricken by sudden waves of guilt on the way to the cashier's, remember that trying to justify an impulse buy once in here is like rationalizing ice cream after you've pulled up at a Ben & Jerry's. Don't judge a store by its outward appearance: while Hirons Drug's exterior is simplistic, the inside is packed with a huge variety of products! I have lived in Eugene for over a year now, and have gone to the Safeway next door to Hirons many times. I never gave Hirons a second glance until I noticed it said on the front window that they make keys there. I needed to make a copy of key, and decided to go inside and see if they could do it for me. When I opened the door, I was shocked at all the knick knacks and merchandise; this place is visually overwhelming, because the store is literally covered floor to ceiling in merchandise. It was a little difficult to find the key making counter, partially because I got distracted looking at all the different products, but I eventually found it in the back. The employee who made the key for me was courteous, and told me that if the key did not work for any reason, I could take it back and they could make me a new one (or give me my money back). Luckily, I had no problems with the key they made for me! This is the perfect store to visit if you want to spend an hour or two browsing, because they have anything and everything. When I was there, here's a list of what only begins to describe a small portion of their offerings: an entire aisle devoted to Oregon Ducks merchandise, a display of tin lunchboxes and other shaped tins from several pop culture brands such as Coca-Cola and Candyland, an aisle full of costume accessories and full costumes, pinatas and feather boas hanging from the ceiling, Christmas ornaments, Hello Kitty mugs, Wizard of Oz merchandise, Breakfast at Tiffany's merchandise, plush toys from Studio Ghibli, cleaning supplies, vitamins, tampons, and reusable shopping bags. The reason I am giving Hirons four stars instead of five is because while their product offerings are quite impressive, their price point on some items is higher than it is elsewhere. But considering it's a local business and not a corporate chain, some people may not mind spending a few extra bucks. read more

I discovered Hirons back in 1995 when I first lived in Eugene, and instantly became a loyal customer of theirs. Lived in other states for a while and returned to Eugene last year -- and was delighted to confirm that Hirons is still in business!! (No surprise there.) Fantastic customer service, unlike the big-store pharmacies in the area -- the staff are proud of their one-on-one patient support, and they should be! Instead of "we can't do that" you'll hear "let's see if we can fix that" from Hirons pharmacy staff. You can re-order medications with your online account and have them delivered the next day ... even though it's more fun to go there and browse the amazing shelves and displays in person! read more

My disabled son was getting his medicine from Hirons Drug. When he was ready to leave, he discovered someone had stolen the rear wheel off his bicycle which is his mode of transportation. He cannot put the bike on the bus without both wheels. The store personnel viewed their security cameras with him. They put his bike inside the store until the next day. Steve Hirons drove his bike to a repair shop the next day because my son had no way to transport it. As his mother (who does not live locally), I am grateful for the kindness and help they afforded him. It is reassuring in these days to find those who go beyond their normal parameters to help others. I certainly would recommend their business for anyone looking for an amazing business. Hard to find items.... old fashioned remedies/ chemical supplies. Look in front of the pharmacy, somewhere amongst all those aisles, you'll find those things usually reasonably priced. In the old days, we called that section: "The wet & dries." This store is dimly lit, crowded, crammed full of... mostly JUNK - a lot of FUN JUNK! - but it's fun to peruse at least once or twice a year, when it's all on sale! read more

He then processed to come up to us, tell us that he was the owner & that other people had told him that before, but that it was our fault we were uncomfortable because he followed us around. Yesterday I walked into Hirons to make a quick return and the manager or whoever with the key locked the doors the second it hit 8pm. As me an an older man we're just grabbing the handles . She rudely showed no sim path you for the old man who needed something aswell as didn't want to help with my quick return. (There we're still customers shopping inside and both me and this gentleman were in a hurry) I Then went in the next day during business hours and was told I am unable to return something I purchased , but I specifically asked the cashier at checkout if I was able to, and she had said yes.
