Hiron's may be my favorite store in Eugene. Not this one, though; the 18th one is better, as it's larger and parking is better. They have so many things: souvenirs, Duck gear, cards, gift items, a pharmacy, cleaning supplies, etc. Their jewelry section is smaller than the other store by a lot (it's basically one display case, while the 18th store has multiple). On the other hand, they have a much more extensive section of UO gear, including t-shirts, sweatshirts, duck lips, ponchos, socks, license plate frames, and on and on and on. This store also feels more cramped than the other location, which is quite an accomplishment. Something to be aware of is their aforementioned parking lot, which is a bit weird. For some reason, the spaces are drawn way too narrow--at least in 2019 they were--and a regular sized car couldn't park in a single space, it will take up more than one. Not sure who repainted but they did a poor job. Maybe the parking on the Market of Choice side is better! read more

My adult granddaughters, their latino sister-in-law and my wife also latino, were shopping in this store this evening. My wife noticed that she was being followed by a store employee while she was browsing. It made her feel quite uncomfortable. My granddaughters sister-in-law picked up a lipstick and then put it down. A taller man with glasses confronted her and accused her of theft. She of course denied the theft and offered to let him search her purse. He refused and demanded she leave. This was witnessed by all and was very demeaning. If Latinos are not welcomed in this store, please admit your racism and post "No Lationo Allowed". My wife offered to have her purse searched to another employee that witnessed this exchange. He stated he had nothing to do with it. She left behind the merchandise she planned to purchase and was quite shaken. My wife was really looking forward to shopping in this store and had found quite a few items she wanted to purchase. We are from out of town so we won't be coming back this trip anyway. Maybe all Pharmacies are like this but very disorganized, mistakes made constantly, and hours are not accurately posted which makes for great inconvenience. I usually have to double check FOR the pharmacy and point out mistakes or wait for them to fix things. Love Hirons but dang read more

Great pharmacy. US Post Office, huge inventory of lots of stuff. Tonight I wanted a birthday card and chose the perfect one among a huge rack of them. It is a bit intimidating to come in to a store with narrow passageways but the inventory of a much larger space. It is a drug store, gift shop, candy store, postoffice, fixit store and a lot else. I always find people there buying things I did not know they have. Very helpful staff and great value for money. You try it too. read more

Oh my goooosh I don't mean to exaggerate but I wish I could live inside this Hirons. I'm only in town for two weeks but I've been to Hirons maybe 5-6 times. Upon first coming in, I discovered it's like a giant gift shop... and I'm here for it. I bought some bucket hats, socks, candies for my family, candles... and everything was on sale. Ok, I digress. They have so much more than this. Oh, did I mention I bought SIX bucket hats?!?! The customer service was 10/10. The employees are so kind and helpful. Every person who works at this location is a gem. It will remain a happy memory of my short stay in Eugene. There's a USPS in the back, and I was given great personal service. Come to Hirons! The name alone is very deceiving. It's not just a drugstore, the store that has practically everything! Upon entry, it's more like a drugstore, arts and craft shop, discount store, souvenir shop (lots of Duck stuff and Made in Oregon goods), sundries, stationery store, housewares, trinkets and baubles, etc. You name it you can probably find it. Feather boa? Yes. Something for Mardi Gras? Yes. Luau? I'm sure of it! Greeting cards? Cold medicine and/or aspirin? Most definitely. There's even a small post office in the back. The aisles are jammed packed with stuff, floor to nearly the ceiling it seems. You could easily spend an hour or 2 if you are just browsing and get lost in the aisles that twist and turn leading to more aisles. I felt like I was navigating through a labyrinth to get to the front cashier. It was kind of fun trying to find my way out. It's cool, it's quirky. It's worth checking out. read more

Accused me of stealing for grabbing a wallet out of my purse. A worker demanded I remove the contents of my bag into a shopping basket. When I told them I did not have anything in the bag, they said they saw me put things into my bag. I showed the worker that I reached in to grab my credit card out of my wallet and then placed my wallet back in-- NOT stealing anything in the process. I did not receive an apology from this worker and find this treatment of customers to be incredibly rude and unprofessional. read more

I bought an overpriced cup from this store and the lid cracked after one use. I went to see if I could get a new lid or return the cup. These assholes said they could not refund the cup because it was used. They also would not just exchange the lid. I tried to see if I could pay for a new lid, but these assholes said they did not have any spare lids. Do not spend your money on this overpriced store with inconsiderate staff. read more

I love Hiron's as a store, but the pharmacy is just the worst. My doctor called in a prescription for iron supplements. Apparently, the Franklin location staff (and they told me this directly) does not fill any prescription automatically, because "too many college kids just never pick them up." I confirm that yes, I would like the Rx. I also ask about when i should come in, since I'm pregnant and my doctor said to start this medication asap. The pharmacist says that I am in their automatic texting system, will hear from them that afternoon. Two days pass, nothing. I call them. Insurance won't cover the Rx, they recommend an over the counter version which they claim is the same, since they're closed over the weekend. I come in, and the over the counter version is 30mg, not 300mg as prescribed by the doctor. So I call again on Monday, explain the situation. They say they can fill the prescription, I'll pay out of pocket, they'll send a text when it's ready. Text never arrives. I call again, the pharmacist says it's ready, come on in. I come in, and it's not ready. They are now re-promising the exact same stuff as before. I love Hiron's so much - the staff in the rest of the store is amazing! So nice, and they really know their stuff. Its bizarre how different the pharmacy and the pharmacy staff are - it's like a completely different store. You can actually check this out for yourself, in the overall pattern across the Yelp reviews: over and over, you see 5 stars for reviews for the store itself. But everyone who had to deal with the pharmacy rated it a 1. Anyway, I had to call Women's Care and have my doctor switch all future prescriptions to a different pharmacy. Tellingly, the nurse asked "was this the Hiron's on Franklin? You're the third person this week who hasn't been able to get their prescription filled there" before I mentioned the place. Hope that sharing this experience saves someone else from a tough situation. I'm seven months pregnant, and not being able to get the medication prescribed by doctor borders on scary. Use a different pharmacy. read more

I am not comfortable in masks due to the effect on my breathing, but I put one on when asked by the clerk behind the postal counter (12/15, mid-afternoon.) I did calmly express my belief that civil disobedience is needed on this policy. She proceeded to lecture me on store policy, and would not stop despite my pointing out that she could stop lecturing me since I had the mask on. Finally, when I had calmly asked her to stop for the third time, she tore the label off the package she'd just put it on, said she wouldn't serve me, and gave me back my packages. I reported this event to a manager and informed her that I will no longer be shopping at Hiron's. For the sake of others who do shop there, and may also have good reasons to forego a mask, I hope you will train your employees not to act like self-important authoritarians when performing their duties. Masks are EUA, just like the vaccines. When this world wakes up from its mass-media induced hypnosis, and realizes that the masks are control tactics and can have no effect on the spread of viruses, companies that have been self-righteously enforcing a mask (or vaccine) mandate, such as yours, are going to find themselves vulnerable to lawsuits. I've been shopping at this store since I was a small child. It's one of those stores that's been around for as long as I can remember. It's the typical drug store type of thing your grandparents went for pharmacy needs, postal needs like stamps, and whatever random items they needed. It's a general store of sorts. These days they have an overabundance of random crap crammed onto shelves all over the store. It's like Spencer's meets the Duck Store, meets a general store and they all collaborated to come up with this. I don't remember the copious amounts of crap overflowing everywhere when I was a kid. All of this merchandise makes walking through the store somewhat difficult, you can easily get lost. It's almost a sensory overload, as you aren't sure where to go and it's difficult to find anything specific. There is so much stuff, I couldn't walk through an isle with my purse on my shoulder without running into something. So I was forced to hold it in my hand, which I'm not a fan of. Employees seem ok. They help, although they don't seem fazed by the copious amounts of crap crammed everywhere in the store, and just how difficult it is to locate anything or easily find your way around. They point you in a fairly general direction and you're left to find what you're looking for on your own. They aren't as bad as Wal-Mart employees, as they actually know what is in the store and if they have what you're looking for. They just don't go above and beyond what you would expect to help you. So I can't complain, but I can't compliment either. Like I said, I've been going to this store for as long as I can remember, and I will keep returning to. Just don't go if you're tired or have a migraine. The sensory overload will kill you. read more

If by chance they do happen to have what it is that i seek, its like i could go buy a new car for the price of a friggin bottle of dish soap or roll of tin foil or pancake flipper! I am trying to figure out what all the whining was about in the other reviews this is a huge clean shop filled with aisles and aisles of stuff well organized I might add there are many lines of collectible kitch such as enesco britto, woodwicks, and other higher end stuff this shop seems to have them ALL which is great you can see the merchandise instead of looking on line they even carry 100% cotton baby stuff which is great for gifting actually just about everything in the store makes for great gifting there is a ton of Ducks stuff and even a tiny bit of beaver stuff considering they are across the street from Matt Knight ... there is real pharmacy back there too and every drug store item you might ever need from alka selzer to bandages to every shampoo you name it they got it lady in front very friendly and sweet and asked us where we called home I love this store! ps we got 70%off ornaments a few ducks things and shampoo read more

I don't get all the hate for this store. It's the BEST!!!! It's like the best of all worlds: novelty store, pharmacy, post office, gift store, sundries, greeting cards - all rolled into one. If you're looking for a swanky home accessory and décor store, don't come here. If you're looking for a traditional pharmacy, don't come here. If you're looking for a federal Post Office, don't come here. But if you want to discover fun items and most commonplace household staples all in one store - and THEN some, - this is the place. (For you Seattle-ites out there, this store is like Archie McPhee on crack, with a pharmacy in the back). There are tons and tons of UO and Duck stuff here, funky socks, gifts for every collector or theme imaginable, a gazillion greeting cards, candles, mailing supplies and stamps, pharmacy stuff (and a dispensing pharmacy, too), retro/nostalgic candies, office supplies, party supplies, gadgets, kitchen utensils..... The list goes on and on. I was looking specifically for a pill box. I found in the Ann Tainter some hysterical ones but they were too large for what I needed them for. In the same aisle was a young woman stocking the shelves, so I asked if there were any other pill boxes available. She immediately brought me to an area where there were pill containers with religious and motivational quotes. (Not for me!). She then brought me to another area where there were lots of different kinds of pill boxes. Here I found JUST what I needed (on sale, too, for less than $5!). In a million years, I would not have found these on my own (the store is huge and densely stocked). I was really impressed that this girl knew where to bring me - and grateful for her help. The guy at the check-out cash was a student at UO and as nice as could be. We chatted about the store and how fun it is to shop there (and he noted it was fun to work there, too). All in all, this is a unique and wacky and FUN store, and one could easily spend an hour or more browsing all the diverse items here. read more

Tried to call and get a quote for a price on a prescription refill. I had already called four other major pharmacies in the area and obtained prices and thought it would be worthwhile to give the local business a chance to compete. The pharmacy tech I spoke to was polite, and said she would be unable to give me that information because of the type of drug I was inquiring about (a controlled substance to treat ADHD) required that I bring in my prescription. I told her I thought that was a bit silly - I should be able to find out what the cost is before I'm obligated to fill it there. I also told her that I had been given a price over the phone by every other pharmacy in town - I couldn't imagine why they wouldn't be able to do the same. She asked me to hold, and then the pharmacist came on the line. The pharmacist was so rude that this conversation ended very quickly. She asked what drug I was inquiring about, and I began to tell her why I was calling to get a price quote, that I was interested in giving my business to a local establishment, and how I had been able to obtain information from other people. She didn't even let me come close to finishing my sentence before interrupting me and talking over me and saying in a very rude manner that she could not help me. I ended the conversation with "wow, I thought I would at least be able to finish my sentence before being rudely interrupted. There is a way to tell people you can't help them and this isn't it." I hung up immediately after. It's such a shame. What if they have the best price in town? I could have given a local company my ongoing business. But with poor customer service even AFTER telling them I'm trying to give my business to them instead of a major chain, I just can't imagine doing so, and even worse, now I feel compelled to warn the rest of you out there to also not give them your business. They don't want it. I've never filled a prescription here, and now I never will. Terrible. read more

Hoo lordy. (And that's being polite.) I had never been into Hirons prior to a few weeks ago. I was looking for a simple keychain, and, as the place is advertised as a drug store, I expected to perhaps find a simple spinning rack of novelty keychains somewhere adjacent to the entrance. What I did not expect to find, however, was a fever dream that combined the worst elements of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Party City, Stuckey's, and the vague aroma of a Holiday Inn restaurant ashtray and/or cat litter box utilized by seventeen cats simultaneously. Some of the "delights" that I encountered in the maze-like deathtrap that this store calls "aisles" (the fire marshal has clearly not been in this place recently, as most of the aisles couldn't even be entered by individuals "of size") included tasteless greeting cards, tacky knick-knacks, bizarre decor and... well, essentially, every surface of this tacky schlockfest is coated with some variety of product to buy, many of which are unidentifiable, impractical, ridiculous, or some combination thereof. What's more, most of the merchandise is ridiculously overpriced--a dinky UO keychain made of moulded rubber in the shape of the "O" cost me nearly $3, despite the fact that the thing was likely made in Taiwan for pennies. And let's talk about the service. Assuming you survive your trip through the Unintelligible Maze of Nonsensical Crappy Overpriced Products without having an aisle's worth of shelving topple over and kill you, and you manage to find a register (there are about sixteen, but only one will be manned, and only after someone calls a cashier over to help), the "service" (as it were) will eye you with disdain as the prices for your items are KEYED IN individually into some sort of MS-DOS based crapfest of a POS POS (piece of *** point-of-sale) system. Worst of all, there's evidence that the ownership of Hirons is anti-LGBT, but because I don't have hard and fast evidence, I don't want to mention that more than in passing. In any case, that's an untenable position in today's marketplace, particularly in a city as progressive as Eugene. I will not be returning to Hirons, and I will actively discourage friends and acquaintances from visiting as well. read more

Hirons, what exactly are you? From what I gather, you're 2 parts drugstore, 2 parts gift shop, 1 part party supply, and 1 part novelty shop with a dash of souvenir schlock. I'm impressed. This is a really fun place to wander in while high OR sober and marvel at the random do-dads. It's also the perfect place to find a last-minute gift for your step mother- perhaps a picture frame with Raphael's cherubs/angels printed on it. One star subtracted for the equally random pricing. Some items are disturbingly cheap while others are shamelessly over-priced. Still, completely worth regular shopping visits for toiletries and definitely a great place to get party supplies for any theme you're looking for (except bachelorette tackiness- c'mon, it's a family store. A hallmark store on steroids!!!! I can't ever remember why we were driving around this area of University of Oregon, it must of been my obsession of magnets and since the university store closed early we ran into a "drug store". When we walked in it looked like any other drug store, with their small plant nursery in front, but geeez when the door opened, it was all gifts galore. Tons of trinkets of all kinds. I was bound to find a Oregon magnet here. But what worried me is that I don't even think I saw one over-the-counter medication anywhere. Not one Tylenol or Vick's, or anything. Anyway, you can get lost in the maze of stuffed animals, gardening decor, and cards. Its a great place to get lost because everything you look at is so interesting and one of a kind. read more

Go there for junk, avoid the pharmacy! I have been using Hirons for nearly 4 years for my father's prescriptions. He is 83 and has multiple issues that require 10 prescriptions per month. Last year we moved to the other side of town, but stayed with Hirons because they deliver. After a stay in the hospital, he was diagnosed with diabetes. To keep things streamlined, I pulled the prescriptions from Fred Meyer where the hospital called it into and moved it to Hirons. I called on Monday morning to ensure they got the prescriptions and were able to fill them. They said they had them but didn't have the meter in stock. They assured me it would be delivered on Tuesday, then when I called they told me that someone "should" have called me on Monday because they can't bill Medicare Part B, something they should have told me Monday when I called. To top it all off, when I called back to speak to a supervisor, she did nothing but make excuses and when I told her I was going to pull my dad's prescriptions from them, her answer, "That would probably be best!" I seriously love this place. If I have an off day I just like to walk around this place for fun. It had everything and anything you may not think you needed but you do. All kinds of fun random trinkets. For some it may be over whelming just by the sheer amount of items that are everywhere even spinning from the ceiling. But considering all the stuff they have, it's quite organized. You can think of this place as a gift shop, post office, drug store, home decor store, card store, candle store. Really an everything store besides groceries. Everyone that works at the store is super helpful! I've been going to Hirons for 30 years to fill my prescriptions. I went on Medicare last year and when choosing my drug provider I chose one that specifically had Hirons in their network. Went in today to fill prescription for colonoscopy prep. Was told it would take 30 minutes to prepare. No problem. Returned half hour later, gave the tech my name and date of birth. As she was packaging up my prescription it didn't look right, turns out it was someone else's prescription. OK mistakes happen. Then she asked me if my coverage had changed. I gave her my new cards and she disappears into the back. Comes back 10 minutes later and informs me that the owner has decided to no longer be in my drug network. But I could pay 180 bucks cash if I wish. I AM SO DONE WITH THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Hiron is a very unique store that's more like an emporium of many things collected over the years. From University of Oregon's memorabilia to figurines to an amazing pharmacy, which looks small and outdated but runs by very efficient staff. THE PHARMACY HERE IS SO TERRIBLE. I go to their pharmacy every month to refill birth control pills and end up having to wait so long because they always mess something up. I went to go pick up my refill today, I even called in my prescription in yesterday and went in 5 hours after they opened, and they STILL didnt have it filled. They told me to wait 15-20 minutes... i ended up waiting 40 MINUTES because they put my prescription in the wrong basket! No one apologized, the girl actually just laughed it off. Could NOT believe it. Never going to this pharmacy for refills again. I have had it. read more
