I've been here a couple of times because it's in my neighborhood, and I do occasionally find things that I want to buy here. The trouble with this store for me, is I tend to check expiration dates before I purchase goods, and this place has a higher than expected number of items that are past their Best By date. So that's something to watch out for if you care about it. The place smells incredible, like incense. The music was almost painfully repetitive. The person behind the counter didn't ask if they could help me, which personally, I appreciate. It's worth checking out, but I hate to say it if you are looking for slightly more common Indian spices, you might be better off checking Mountain Rose or even nearby Market of Choice if you want something fresher and in smaller quantity. read more

We were so pleased to find this (one and only) Indian grocery store in Eugene. And equally pleased to find a number of our favorite frozen food items in this well stocked shop. They have a large freezer section, a good sized dry goods section, bottled drinks, ayervedic and personal care items. As many reviews have noted, the prices may be higher than you see from a similar grocer in a metropolitan area but keep in mind they need to bring all their stock in from farther away too. We also found the staff cold and somewhat unfriendly but this didn't affect our shopping experience. read more

No thanks. When I think of supporting small, local business this is not what I am referring to. In a big city, with more turn, this store might work and be respectable. Here in Eugene, not so much. The lady working here was quite dismissive when I was looking for the last couple ingredients I had not yet sourced for a traditional Indian dish. I was looking for a particular dried flower, and I did not see it on my own. I showed her my list with the ingredient named several different ways in several different dialects that are widely known on the internet. What does she do? She takes me to a pre-mix box for Chicken Biryani and says that is all I need. I found this more disrespectful than helpful. I move on and grab a few of the more mundane items they actually stock. I get home and realize that several items I purchased were 4 years past the best by date. Shame on me for not checking. The couple items that were not yet past the date are coming up on it this summer. Most of these items have a 5 year shelf life. Yikes. Amazon had the "ultra rare" ingredient I wanted and it was ordered in 1 click. It will be here the day after tomorrow and I have 100% faith it will be as fresh as can be. In addition, they won't give me any lip about using my credit card for a $10 purchase. Don't check 'em out. read more

This store stocks a lot of items for Indian cuisine. I had a specific ingredient to find. I couldn't find it, so asked. The woman clerk (owner?) told me the aisle but was quite brusk and dismissive beyond that. I felt rushed and unwelcome. She was not helpful with my questions about the product. The prices are not clearly marked.They will not accept a debit card for any purchase $10 or less. I won't return. read more

I had been going to this store for about 10 years. Usually found what I was looking for. The owner is not the most personable person I've met but I have overlooked that in the past and still shopped there. However, the last time I went there was the last time I will ever go there. I purchased a paprika spice package in the past and come to find out that it was really a package of very spicy chili peppers. I mentioned that to the owner and she proceeded to tell me that ALL paprikas are spicy. I am Indian as well and am very comfortable using a variety of different spices and know very well that paprika comes from the capsicum seeds but depending on the type of seeds, some paprikas will be very mild and the others very spicy. She could not understand what I was telling her and was quite rude about it. We always purchased over $100 whenever we shopped there but I have decided to not support any business even if it is local if they do not care about their customers. Unfortunately, this business is not the kind of business I will support, instead I will go down the street to Sunrise Asian market, which carries a lot of the Indian staples. Only Indian grocery store in Eugene so I have to go there. But if I had a choice, I wouldn't. Everything is overpriced. Owner is rude. I try to make conversation since I'm from India too and they just look at me like I'm an alien from out of space. Sometimes they let me charge on my card and sometimes they want $10 minimum. Sometimes they have good Samosas and sometimes they are stale and made of powdered boxed potatoes (I know how to tell the difference since I'm Indian). One time I bought 2 Samosas. One was good. The other was so rotten that my whole house smelled bad for 2 days when I threw it in the trash. I had to take the trash out and air the apartment. I called her and she gave me another Samosa for free. But it just the hassle of coming home changing and relaxed and then having to get dressed again to get it replaced. I find it hard to believe that they didn't know they were selling a 1 week old Samosa along with the fresh ones. A lack of integrity there IMHO. I guess it is all the luck of the draw. They have no competetion and they can charge whatever they want and treat you any way they want. If you cook Indian food, you have to shop there :-( read more

Eugene has quite a few Asian markets. All are pretty solid and some better than others. Vishnu India Imports has all things Indian for stocking an kitchen to cook classic Indian food. Sure the items are cheaper elsewhere and in India for sure yet the plane ticket is pretty costly. I have given Vishnu India Imports an extra star for they have many great and authentic Ayurveda products that are hard to find. Any traveler that has been to India will find them comfortably familiar. I have been to many Indian Markets in the States that lack the authentic soaps, toothpastes, and products that are so wonderfully common in India so kudos to Vishnu India Imports for this!! read more

I really like shopping at this store. It's different. It's fun. I have gotten good advice on what to buy. When I was looking at bulk black tea the owner/employee(?) suggested the kind she drinks and we were not disappointed. What we buy is limited but I can attest to the great tea, tea biscuits, basmati rice, spices and henna. read more

I love this store. They have stuff that i just cant get anywhere else. My dad's been bringing me there since i was a kid and now i go there with my son. Im sad to see they've reduced hours but i understand. The same lady is always working there and she even has smiled a couple of times! I like her. Thanks for being there. I have been shopping here since they opened. I was very annoyed when they started demanding the purchase be $5 to use a debit card. There is absolutely no reason on Earth to do this. Today I went in, grabbed an extra item so it would go over $5 and the owner told me my purchase would have to be $10 to use my card, would I like to buy something else? This store has gone from unreliable to OK. When it first opened it was common to find expired items (usually the dry ones). I am more careful about checking dates these days but clearly the stock has improved. Good experience shopping for the last couple of years. Owner is responsive to item requests and inquiries, friendly and chatty. Things are overpriced for sure, but what do you expect in a small market? Compare prices of similar things with Sunrise Asian Market (other side of Willamette) but usually the price difference is small. I just wish the store ambiance wasn't so drab, outside or inside, and all items had clearly marked prices. read more

Great store to find everything you would need for Indian cooking! I was hesitant thinking I wouldn't find the variety I had in my hometown, but they manage to keep everything in this store. Contrary to the below post, I thought their prices were very comparable to what I used to pay on the east coast in a bigger city. The owner is so sweet and helpful, she provides great cooking tips. I've also taken a cooking class from her and loved it! Their samosas are amazingggg, I love the tamarind and mint chutneys that they make themselves. Love going here and seeing all the new things they have in, definitely recommend it. read more
