This is a great local Market! It is a fun, mile-long walk from my front door to the market, but it is really nice stroll through the neighborhood on a nice day! The first time I went into this market it stressed me out-it seemed chaotic and I didn't get the "Flow" of the store to walk between aisles. But, after being there a few times it is less chaotic feeling and they have a lot of product available per square foot! I have gotten necessity things from there as well as nice cheeses and beers. And, I love the cafe that is attached, the tempeh tacos with sweet-potato shells are AMAZING!!! I like their smoothies a lot as well. And, their service is always quick- if there isn't someone at the register they even have a bell that you can politely ring for service! It is a great local market to get groceries and some fun snacks/treats! read more

It looks like this neighborhood market hasn't had a review in quite awhile. I'm here to tell you that there have been some changes but it's still awesome. :) The market is on the smaller side but packs a punch. It's got everything from vegan cheese to fresh veggies to soda to craft beers. It's in a super convenient spot for the Friendly Neighborhood. Perfect to swing through on the way out to party at a friend's place or swing through on your way home to pick up the ingredients needed to whip up dinner. I think the prices are a little higher than what you'll find at a local chain supermarket but the quality of products here is fantastic. You honestly get what you pay for. Party On Friendly is no more. Farmers Union Coffee Roasters has moved in. This review is for the market and not the coffee shop BUT I will say that it's awesome to be able to grab a tasty iced americano and peruse the aisles. If you're new to the area I'd recommend stopping in and taking a look around. If you don't leave with anything else make sure to grab a local kombucha favorite, BNF. read more

Cool neighborhood market. Wish I had one of these in my neck of the woods! Friendly Street Market is divided into a store section (which they obviously run) and a cafe (which is operated by a group called Party on Friendly). Apparently, the food improved now that someone else took over the cafe and revamped the menu. And while I can't vouch for that, I am a fan of their current food offerings. I had the pleasure of trying their avocado toast with pickled shallots, crunchy salt, fermented chili, olive oil, sourdough. That toast seemed petite but was quite heavy. I appreciated the fact that they used a thick slice of toast and were generous with the avocado. Forgot to ask what kind of avocado they used but it was tasty! I really liked the pickled scallions because it brought a brightness and sharp tanginess that worked really well with the fatty avocado and olive oil. The chili was barely present so that's cool if you don't enjoy the heat. The market itself was good too but not as good as the cafe. Their offerings included Oregon wines, craft beer, and hard cider. There was also an awesome herb/spice section which included a few ingredients I've never even heard of. The herbs were adjacent to a great selection of loose tea leaf blends and some containers of various olive oils. What I was really looking forward to checking out was the produce aisle. I'm in love with farmers' markets and finding awesome local produce. When I stopped by, I found locally grown berries, fava beans, mushrooms, and other cool stuff. Be weary, though. Quality didn't seem to be consistent. My friends and I were hoping to purchase morels to use in orzo for dinner but all of the mushrooms had quite a bit of mold and I did not feel like taking the time to remove the decayed parts. Skipped them and settled for crimini mushrooms instead. *sigh* Don't worry about the attitude. Just shrug it off if you get any crap. Guy at the cafe with pink hair was cool though. read more

Unique food selections here. Atmosphere is ok, has seating outside but still cold even with heaters. Ordered the pork torta which was good. Had smoked pork, avocado, cilantro aoli and pickled sunchokes. Didn't care for the sunchokes and think a good dill pickle would add some spark to the sandwich. Also had the grilled albacore and cheese sandwich. This had root kimchi on it; again it didn't add to the flavor profile. I have traveLed the world and ate some of the "best" avocado toast around. Or so they Claimed :p nothing and I mean NOTHING has ever came close to the avocado toast here. I would happily pay double of what the price is for this avocado toast because it's just that frikken good. When I'm not in Eugene I literally crave it and find myself disappointed with just about everything that isn't it. I love taking ppl here and introducing this masterpiece to them because they close their eYes and go straight to heaven when they take their first bite! As foR the other food.. It's pretty amazing as well. You can taste the quality of the food and the thought that goes into it. The tuna sandwich is unique and superb! The eggplant parm sandwich has flavor I have never tasted.. I found myself thinking as I was eating it "wtf dO they put into this to make it THIS good?! How?". Been here a couple times. I've gotten the egg mark muffin both times. Super delicious! Love all the flavors of this sandwich and paired it with the hash brown. Which is also delicious. Nice and crispy but very moist inside. Had a mimosa. It was good. But I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a bigger glass. But other then that. Will come back again. When I first moved to Eugene, I got a roommate on Friendly Street. I was a stone's throw from this little market. I had just lived in Arizona, where one wouldn't dream of walking to the store in August... in 125 degree heat. No, seriously, you wouldn't. You'd wait until dark and go in your air conditioned car into the air conditioned store, shop really quick-like, and get the heck home to your air conditioned apartment. Whew, glad that is over! So, strolling to this little hippie dippie store was kinda cool,in more ways than one, right? and plucking organic local and interesting things from the shelves and from the deli was an adventure. Pretty sweet place to hang out and have a beer or a sandwich and relax. It's very laid back and calm. The outside patio area is real nice. If it were nasty out there wouldn't be much seating inside. The falafel sandwich was tasty - nice hummus. The squash soup was spicier than I was expecting but still good - very flavorful. The dolmas were awesome - I bought more to take home. :) They have a few beers on tap, but you can also buy any of the beers in their cold cases and have them open them for you and drink it there - so it's a big variety. They also have wine on tap. It is a little spendy I'd say. But very much likes the FRIENDLY, laid back atmosphere. read more

But it is really sad to me that this, and so few, places in Eugene provide a heated outdoors (they do have heaters, but they do not turn them on) for those of us who are immunocompromised (there are so many) and cannot meet friends indoors in Oregon winters. I wanted to make my damn potato leek soup anyways. The deli/restaurant section has been fairly mediocre over the years, and was recently vastly improved with the exciting addition of the Party Downtown folks. It's hit or miss when it comes to there baristas, on our last visit the barista forgot to add espresso to our drinks, so we basically got hot steamed cream and syrup....yum. As for Party at friendly in the deli area now, you can expect to pay high prices for mediocre food, kinda fits the bill for the rest of the grocery store. This is one expensive neighborhood market. They do have quality produce that is organic and local, but the price tag can set you back. read more

The market itself is pretty awesome, it's totally saved the day when I needed a veggie side for dinner. They also have a small area for veggies that have seen better days and are priced down to sell quickly. My favorite aspect is the wall of bulk spices, especially when I just need a tsp of a random spice I don't have at home, and don't want to spend a fortune on a whole bottle plus the dreaded trip to a busy store. It's great for beer and kombucha, and (at least you used to be able) to purchase drinks and take them across the street to eat with your pizza. I agree with other reviews in regards to poor service. At times I've had great customer service here, and mostly it's fine. But there have been a handful of times I've been really upset with poor/rude service and can't believe how easily it can vary. read more

Yum yum yum! We stopped into Friendly Street after visiting Miss Crossing (the trendy, awesome dispensary) next door and are so glad we did! This little deli and market is about 15 min south of downtown Eugene and is full of natural treasures including local bulk olive oils, fresh avocado toast, and the best iced oat milk latte I've ever had. As with many establishments in Oregon, there is a strong commitment to sustainability and a welcoming vibe. I had no trouble finding vegan options at the deli and would certainly have shopped around a bit more if I wasn't trying to get back on the road for a trip. There is a patio area to sit outside of the deli, in addition to the indoor seating, and we enjoyed the up and coming neighborhood. Highly recommend! read more

After reading reviews, I came into this place really wanting to like it. Let's start with the fact that they have specials listed but were not serving them. Seems a little silly to post a special you are not serving but what is worse is that you don't take it down. We are not from here, but visit Eugene often, so didn't know that we needed to fill out a card to tell hem what we wanted. The cashier (Erin) was less than pleasant as she corrected us. She even admitted that it would probably be a good idea to have a sign to tell people what to do. We opted for an Italian Soda to drink. When asked what flavor, I asked what flavors they had. The reply? The other lady behind the counter points to the back window and says, "They are all right there". Gee, I know my eyes are not perfect, but that's still a ways back there and to me, a pretty darn lazy response. I had an Egg salad sandwich with a cup of Broccoli Cheddar soup. My husband had a Pastrami sandwich with a cup of Broccoli Cheddar soup. They essentially just wrapped a slice of Pastrami around sauerkraut. The soup was very watery as was the hot chocolate. This place may be on Friendly Street, but unless you are local, friendly is not what you should expect. We won't be back and I don't think either they or I will be bother by this. read more

as other reviews have said before me, the service is freaking terrible. If you are gluten-free and looking for a sandwich, it's the Ruben. as we found out later, the full gluten-free sandwich uses four slices of franz bread which is really expensive. how we found out that the Ruben is the only sandwich that they make gluten free is that my dad had to go towards the bathrooms, towards the the the comment box, and have a senior staff member grab him and tell him that we actually do have gluten-free sandwiches. read more

Party on Friendly sits inside of the Friendly Street Market and Deli. They took over the deli portion of the market and made it a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch and some evenings even dinner. These are the people who own Party Downtown so trust that they know what good food is and they know what they are doing when it comes to real cooking! I really want to come back and try more of their dishes. I love everything about this place. The local and fresh ingredients, the service, the portion sizes, the outdoor patio, and the fact that you can be casual but still receive great food. I think I just ordered the wrong meal or something was a little off with my BLT sandwich. The amount of salt on the sandwich was overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I love a good seasoning of salt but the salt they put on the perfectly cooked bacon and then additional salt on the tomato was just too much that I didn't feel like finishing it. I had a bite of my mom's torta which was tasty and I enjoyed their fig dessert bar. I will be back to try their breakfast but it just felt like I had a little bad luck with the dish I ordered. I was so hungry that I just didn't feel like complaining and sending it back but I'm hoping it's not usually like this. Ever since I moved to Eugene, I have had a neighborhood market close to my house. But when I recently moved to the friendly area, I thought I was LOST, I was no where close to New Frontier Market and I was too far for Sundance... I didn't even know about friendly street market till I saw a review by Lee W. (Thanks Lee) Pros: This place is cute, very clean, well stocked and had some nice looking fresh produce. The store feels very open, airy and fresh. The produce looks great and they have flax flour, flax, seed, Bran flour and more in the coolers! My favorite thing, as silly as is sounds, is that The kombucha is right up front. So I can run in grab my favorite flavor and get out fast. But sometimes, I like to wonder around and they is plenty of things to look at. Disappointing: I was truly disappointed the fact that they didnt have a salad bar. Seriously. I am not sure why this upset me so much, but it did. I guess the reason might be that it looks HUGE from the outside, so I assumed that there would be enough room of a salad bar. I imaged it to be much like sundances salad bar but not as good. But 1/2 of the building is taken up by Friendly Street Cafe (review on them later, I want to check out there Music Wed before I write a review). So that was a let down. Bad: The b*tch be hide the counter. I've been into FSM more than 30 times now... and with my limited experience I know that if a certain lady is working the register to turn around and leave. I refuse to buy a product from some one who treats customers so poorly. The good news is, is that I haven't seen her for about 2 weeks, so maybe it's GONE. With that being said I want to make it CLEAR that not all of the staff is as ridged as she is. Actually to be honest the men that work there are all very nice, friendly and talkative, I like that. (I like to know who people ARE and not just there job title. ) My recommendation is to try the store for yourself. Experience the experience of FSM and let us know what you think but only if you're in the area. Don't make a special trip. read more

This is my favorite alternative market in Eugene. Fronting quiet Friendly Street with a spacious terrace with chairs and a pretty garden. Friendly staff. Super kid-friendly. Well selected range of the usual organic foods and products, and an excellent range of wines. Ice cream from Red Wagon and pastries from Sweet Life are a great touch. And the microscopic kitchen makes an astonishing range of good things to eat and drink. Is this the perfect neighborhood market? I think so- it's the best I've seen anywhere. read more

Yes please. Take my money!! I've been on a job in the area for a few weeks now, and the deli at FSM&D has fed me well on a few lunch breaks. I can't say enough for the sammiches here. NOMZ!! I am especially fond of the smoked turkey sam. After a good sammich, I get a scoop of the butter corn (red wagon creamery) ice cream. SO good. Hey guys, don't confuse the market with the cafe, which is a separate business, though it's under the same roof and sure looks like it's one and the same place. I've become really spoiled with Friendly St. Market being just down the street. Everyone has a Dairy Mart or 7-11 or some other beer-and-cigs convenience store around, but we get a full natural foods grocery in a pint-size space. Prices are decent, staff is always very amicable, and goddamn you can run in and get organic broccoli, organic locally-raised beef and a local pinot, even pet food and dry goods, in a real convenient location. The market is one of the good things about the Friendly St. neighborhood. The produce occasionally looks a little long in the tooth, but that's rare and it's no worse than the big Market of Choice a few blocks away. As a last bonus, Friendly Mkt is very supportive of local schools, issuing their own scrip. Again, don't confuse it with the cafe, which I'd rate 3.5 stars. read more

Prices for groceries tend to be a bit higher on certain items, but worth supporting this gem in the neighborhood. The little cafe is great. They had a vegan wrap and hummus plate. The Friendly Market rocks. With grocery items, I can find what I want easily and items are fresh. Good variety of products for the body and nice wine selections. The outdoor patio is very nice in all seasons! BUT, the deli has gone down so much I won't eat there anymore. Three times the egg & cheese sandwich was burned, the friendly staff in the deli have turned into grumps and the food basically sucks now! This market has it all. Tiny square footage means that you have to work a little harder to learn where everything is but it works. Prices are better than market of choice and everyone who works there knows the products. Fresh local produce and local bread.
