I tried out the new bar side of Teca and have to say this is one of the most beautiful bars I've ever been at. Let me rave about the look for a little bit. The set-up here is really sharp. You're going to spend some time staring at the chandeliers; they are amazing looking, very unique. The bar edge has a nice shape to it that distinguishes it from the standard straight edged bars. There are also a lot of 'little' details that are well done that makes me believe there was a real effort here, unlike a lot of 'trendy' bars with thin veneers. I'm not a wine drinker but the selection looks more than adequate. The tap system at the bar is also nicely done and the choices are diverse. I thought the drinks were a little pricy, but not really out of line for most of West Chester. The crowd had the 'look at me' type, but overall friendly and a good experience. They serve food here and have a set off sit-down area for dinner, but we didn't try any food. We only stayed for an hour or two, but I'm sure I'll be here again. Update: I've been to Teca a few times now and all I can say is that this place gets better. On busy nights the staff opens the door for you, which might not sound like much, but few places do this. Classy. The crowd has varied each time I've gone from casual to up scale, but staff has been friendly and quick no matter how I'm dressing. The food is good, but fyi it's mostly brushetta, cheese plates and panini, small items. I highly recommend you give this place a try. read more

Standard WC restaurant. I rarely do the burbs but one of my be sties and her soon to be hubby live in the WC so I've been making it a point to head out that way at least monthly. The nicest thing about this establishment is the outdoor patio. There was nice mix of young'ins and pumas which is typical for a college type town. Teca looks nice from the outside and the bar is aesthetically appealing with its colored blocks but that's about where the good reviews end. The bartender seemed bored and like I was bothering her when I ordered a cocktail. The rest of the staff was congregated around chatting throughout my stay. Oh and they spent most of the time talking about how business was slow and they wanted to make more money. If you come here alone you will likely never speak a word other than 'vodka martini'. The staff is snobby and the crowd is sufficiently uninteresting. Teca was recommended to me by a girlfriend that likes to go there with some of her friends for a 'girl's night out.' She never seems disappointed and raves about the unique cocktails they offer, so when my husband informed me that he was taking me there for my birthday dinner I was pretty stoked. Arriving before my husband I choose to sit at the bar and wait. I don't drink a lot and tend to break out with certain alcohols so it takes me a while to view any bar menu and select a beverage; however, the bartenders were friendly and after chatting a little bit were extremely helpful in recommending a drink - I didn't break out. When my husband arrived we moved outside for sidewalk dining. Our waiter was also friendly and extremely helpful in suggesting menu items from their vast selection. Because it was my birthday we decided to splurge a little on the appetizers and had the most wonderful cheese, fruit, and Italian meat platter. I had their Penne Vodka which was amazing and concluded our meal with a homemade Blood Orange Sorbet - AMAZING! Over all I was very satisfied with the service, prices, and portions of the meal. Tapas places can be pretty over-rated. This places proves that point for me. Tapas places that are small, with a focused menu are ok, when one is in the mood. and this place started out like that - cool small place, highly in demand - particularly the outdoor seats on the sidewalk during nice evenings. then they knocked down some walls and expanded their seating as well as their focus. I think i got 4 different menus the other night, with some overlap - but mostly overwhelm. and while a 'tapas' place does require a longer list of smaller items in order to satisfy all hunger levels - this place almost can't really call itself a tapas restaurant anymore with all the paninis, entrees, etc they also offer. Granted, they haven't gotten to Cheesecake Factory 'all over the place menu' stature, but unless they rein it in, they might. for all that, the food was OK, albeit a little pricey. the service was adequate, but nothing special - i just long for the place I first went to years ago when it was fine being a small trendy place - now that it's all grown up, I might start dating its younger sibling instead. read more

I went here on Sunday. Wasn't that busy, and lots of empty tables. We were told to sit anywhere and then waited for over 20 minutes before anyone came over. We ordered an app and had to wait 20 or so minutes. The people behind us got there apps before us and they were seated well after we were. We waited another 30 minutes for the main dish. I ordered the Today's special which was Risotto with scallops, baby shrimp. peppers, white wine, garlic and a little pesto. I asked for no scallops. when it arrived she asked if we wanted cheese., I said yes. 10 minutes later she came back to check on us without the cheese. I also told her there were no shrimp. Sent it back. She did bring another. To be honest was very disappointed since it came out in a red sauce to me it sounded like it should have been white with green from the pesto. I had horrible indigestion for the rest of the evening. If I knew if was red I would not have gotten it. My sister got the Shrimp Fra Diablo and that was even OK as the shrimp were over cooked. However, the biggest surprise was the price. The risotto was $29 without scallops! What a rip off, plus it took 2 hours! Totally disappointed. I often go to Teca on my visits to Pennsylvania. i grew up close to West Chester and it's a great place to gather old friends to meet. they have a great selection of beers on tap, including several belgian ones (framboise lambic), as well as a good wine list (we had a bottle of malbec, yum). and of course the rest of the bar. Last night i had dinner there. Firstly I fell in love with the fact that they have an entire menu page of various bruschette. for two we ordered the mushroom brushette plus a olive hummus plate, then a salad each (yummy calamari one) as the main meal. for dessert we had some outstanding almondine cake-y thing. they have a daily menu with specials too. our server was very attentive and friendly (and pretty cute). The place can get pretty busy (and loud) on weekends. it's great for groups though because they have several big tables. we stayed on the non-smoking side (which is completely cut off from the smoking side), but there is an option if you feel the need (good luck getting your non-smoking friends to join you). we walked through the smoking area just to say goodbye to friends and *cough cough* i thought i might die of smoke inhalation if i spent another minute in there. it is really unreal to me that places still exist where you can smoke indoors. really. hopefully PA will soon outlaw smoking in all indoor establishments. read more

A crowded, cozy, happening Italian place in downtown West Chester (PA), Teca brought the heat, and I'm not just talking about food. It seemed, at least the night I was there, sequins were the currency for the ladies, and they had no problem splashing it around. Waiting at the bar we dreaded being sat at tables placed smack dab in the middle of the room, perfectly placed for the drunken serpentine customers were doing to get out. Thankfully, our fears were unfounded as we were taken to a slightly quieter room where we were protected by the music beats and the blinding lasers reflections of the aforementioned boob sequins. The food? Good to very good. Boasting a number of bruschettas (around 10 or so), we tried three. And while they weren't the highlight of the meal, I'll give them a slight pass since tomato season has passed. I'd certainly liked the concept of a menu page devoted to bruschetta. Another appetizer that fared better was the caprese tower. Made with tomato, mozzarella, basil, roasted peppers (you know, what anyone would put in a caprese salad) this plate also boasted a slice of fried green tomato and a drizzling of balsamic vinegar that I would at least think about stepping on my mother's throat to get a bottle of. Ever so sweet with the balsamic tang it did its job in announcing the flavors of everything else, but never going Whitney Houston on them. My main course of veal covered with crispy proscuitto and some sort of cheese (shut up, this was awhile ago and the bar we went to after had $2 High Life pints) was phenomenal. More of that balsamic and a nice lemon pepper olive oil enhanced everything about the dish. I stayed away from dessert, as I'm not a dessert guy. My thighs are large enough. So, if you're out and about in West Chester, and want to enjoy a slightly older crowd (mid 30s or so) Teca is a great spot. read more

We had an amazing meal and enjoyable evening at Teca along with stellar service from Jen and "Baba" the manager. Initially we were told there would be a 20 minute wait for a table so we sidled up to the long bar and started to read the drink menu. All of a sudden our table was ready! (So great - because we were hungry by then - and the wait was only about 8 minutes!) In future I would recommend reservations for Friday or Saturday nights here - the summer Gay Street scene is pretty hoppin'. The tables are pretty close together (we sat outside on a lovely night) so we got to know a couple from Atlanta next to us. Everything they ordered and everything we ordered looked amazing. We enjoyed our drinks - I had an $8 Kir Royale and DH had a Belgium Raspberry lambic that smelled and tasted so sweet and fruity (you better like fruit!) that even I could have easily drank it. Our proscuitto and melon app - at $13 - was 5 star perfection. The large ball of creamy fresh Mozzarella (di Buffala!!!) was divine. It was served with 2 slices of panini-pressed bread that was good for dipping into the lemon-noted olive oil on the plate. DH & I both ordered pasta as our main dish - mine was a special of pappardelle (house made - and a little on the thick side but perfectly cut and cooked to a toothsome al dente) with shrimp (5 medium sized ones) and lumps of crab meat (sweet, shell-less and delectable). DH had the penne a la vodka and I did not taste it but it looked great, too. We shared a delicious creme brulee (the top was stll warm from being blow-torched) for $8. Cappuccino (at $5 - ouch!) was a let down. Extremely bitter tasting and I fear the beans were burnt. I could only drink a few They are sooooo close to 5 stars on food - but there are a few areas for improvement that are holding me out on the 5th star. (Fix your ladies room stall doors and the lights on the stars, please!) Food snobs from NYC or Philly may shun the 'burbs - but Teca was a big winner for me last night. Love it here. I have been a few times now, the avocado crab appetizer is a must. I had roasted quail and it was delicious, especially if you like chicken/turkey thigh meat. I've been to Teca a handful of times, usually with the boyfriend's father who is in love with their lasagna and stays at a hotel a few blocks away. Coming here a few times over the past year or so (and being with a hungry Italian family), we've had our run of the menu. Love little specialities we've had like Tuscan kale salad, various bruschetta, ceviche in the summer. The lasagna (as I mentioned) is a big hit. And they do most pasta dishes very well. Brother-in-law always orders the steak and mentioned the chef always cooks to the perfect temperature. Service is decent most times we've been. Atmosphere tends towards trendy and young (in decor and clientele), but we can show up with my in laws and feel at home. Not great for groups - our party of 7 had to be seated at a huge high top with bar stools. 6 or less, you should be fine though. Cocktails are on point and strong, wine list is decent (you'll have a better selection with bottles than by the glass), beer list is ok, but not why you'd come here. Started w/ the crab/avocado salsa dip recommended by the waitress. The appetizer was $$, cost $16, and they gave you a mountain of salsa, and four measly chips (there were 3 of us). When we asked for more chips, the waitress came out w/ a plate w/ 3 chips on it. I would, honestly,m be embarrassed to serve that ! So, while it was delicious, really, four chips?? The menu is also extensive..last time we were here for drinks & apps, we tried the anti-pasta and cheese plates, and they were plentiful...so the lack of chips thing really made no sense to us. I had the penne vodka, it was delicious, pleasantly spiced, the peas in it were a bit odd since the sauce was kind of heavy. My friends had the lobster ravioli and the tortellini, they all enjoyed their dishes. Decent-sized portions, decent price. The drinks were good, a bit $$, but they gave you the shaker w/ the complete drink, so you got a few out of it. Service was just OK. I felt like we made eyes with our waitress many times because we needed her attention, and she smiled, but wouldn't come over. We moved to the bar afterward. The bartender was prompt for the first drink, but never asked if we wanted a second drink. Maybe because he was way too caught up with texting on his cell phone. Atmosphere -- LOVE the decor, so modern, chic, the lamps are great...wish I could have one in my house ! But around 10 pm, live music started playing, and frankly, the place is TOO small, and the music (a guy w/ a guitar singing modern hits) just didn't fit the atmosphere. There's also a nightclub above us, and it was BOOMING so the music competing against each other was just too much, and made it difficult to have a conversation. A group of 6 of us went to Teca on a Friday night just to grab a drink at the bar. Immediately the bar tender was extremely unhappy and asked for our IDs right away. We all ordered espresso martinis and she was visibly annoyed. We all said thank you and she didn't say a word. We tipped a small amount on the credit card receipt as we were also handing her cash before leaving. In total she was getting a $26 tip on 6 espresso martinis which is a great tip. She only saw the credit card tip receipt and was furious. Right in front of us she starts complaining to other people at the bar! We could HEAR her saying nasty things about us. "These people just tipped me terribly and I bet they're all underage using fake IDs". We were all extremely uncomfortable and left as soon as possible. Never experienced anything like it. We are all around 26-28 years old not even close to using "Fake IDs"? Extremely rude bartender and most insulting bar experience any of us have had. read more

Went on a random weeknight for the first time to Teca, and the restaurant and bars are laid out very well. It is almost two different restaurants and our service was excellent. The wine selection is very good and the cocktails and beer selection are nice as well. The menu has nothing superb on it, but there were so many great specials, that they were pretty much a great menu as well, I had the halibut special and it was delicious and beautifully prepared. Teca is a nice wine bar and restaurant located in downtown West Chester. I came here for dinner with friends during the week and there was no wait for a table. I recommend the hummus appetizer. It's a traditional hummus and black bean hummus with grilled flatbread. For my entree I had the lasagna. The portion was large and the meat sauce was excellent. I had enough for lunch the next day. I'm not a wine drinker, but my friends enjoyed their wine selection. If you're not able to find street parking, there is a lot next door that costs $5. If you're lazy like me, it's very convenient. I have to agree with other Yelpers that Teca is a great place that makes you feel like maybe you are somewhere else, but it's still in WC. If you don't have time or want to go to Philly or NYC then this is an OK alternative. Don't get me wrong, it definitely IS NOT Philly or NYC, but it passes for a good time. We started going here when they only had the "old" side and the menu was half of what it is today and consisted basically of bruschettas and a couple of salads. The "new" side is great also, but don't bother going upstairs to the white-walled, Miami Vice-styled disco area. Whenever we have friends in town this is usually where we end up going because it's a younger place, it's close, it's usually fun, they have great wines and beer, and the food is good. Unfortunately, since it does have a younger feel, this is also where alot of older (and probably single) people go to feel young. But if you have a big enough group you can probably overlook that. The food is definitely good. There are a number of OK things on the menu, but I have to recommend the grilled (not fried) calamari. It wasn't on the menu for the longest time and I think they finally caved in and put it on. If you don't see it, just ask for it, it's truly great. The clams or mussels over pasta is also very very good if you like that. Everything else is just ok, nothing to write home about for the prices they are trying to get away with charging. Speaking of prices, it is a little (read VERY) pricey for what it is. Yes, you do get a feeling that you are not in WC and maybe that's why people come back. Expect to spend close to $150-200 for you and a date if you have a 3 course meal and wine/drinks. Sure you can go for an early dinner and just have a salad and you'll get out for under $20 bucks, which is not a bad idea, especially in the summer time when you can sit outside. The outside seating in the summer is another reason I give this place 4 stars. It is nice to sit on the sidewalk and enjoy the setting sun and watch cars and people pass by. FYI, they only take reservations for groups over 8, so if you have 6 ppl maybe you mistakently tell them 8 and then have 2 people cancel....if you catch my drift. And as a last FYI, there is a large mens and womens bathroom in the basement which is really really nice so if you have to go, go down there stairs by the kitchen entrance and you'll find yourself in a colorfully tiled bathroom! We were looking forward a nice family dinner but were thoroughly disappointed by the quality of food and drinks. While the beer my son ordered was good, my Aperol Spritz tasted watered down and with barely any Prosecco in it. The mussel starter in white wine sauce was flavorful but had a lack in quantity. We ordered gnocchi, spaghetti and the special ravioli. The ravioli was flavorful but the other two pasta dishes were mediocre. The sauce lacked any complexity in flavor, and both dishes tasted as if they used the same bottled sauce for the dishes. Of course no one finished their plates and we ended up packing. I had high hopes for the friend chicken Panini I ordered, but the chicken cutlet was dry and tasted like cardboard. and the panini barely had any sharp provolone and lacked serious flavor, I ended up packing most of it. I made a res for four for Saturday night. They seated us outside, which was nice. The weather was perfect. The sidewalk seating is LOUD. That should come as no surprise as you are seated next to the busiest street in WC. Anyway our server was perfect: attentive, she had the specials memorized, and could answer questions and offer advice on anything on the menu. The place has an awesome bar. The wine list is big, there are at least 10 beers on tap, and the seasonal cocktail list is creative. The choices we made were all great. I ordered the bucatini amatriciana, my wife got the lobster ravioli, daughter ordered the gnocchi, and my son got the grouper special. I only take time out to write a review if I am really impressed. I WAS IMPRESSED. I have been in hospitality for 12 years and take food very seriously and appreciate the the creativity and hard work that goes into cooking. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and the atmosphere at the bar was really cozy, and had a pub feel to it as well as some a funky touch to it with the light fixtures. Loved the dark wood and big windows. It definitely has that small town feel to it, but yet trendy. The bartender, Jake was really cool and attentive but not overbearing. He told us about the specials in a way that was real and not verbatim or pushy - just all sounded good. We ordered the vegetable bruschetta with mozzarella - SOOOOOOOOOOOO good. vegetables were perfectly seasoned, perfect amount of cheese and the bread was delicious and fresh. For dinner, I went with the Branzino---- I don't eat meat, so hearing that they had that was a no brainer. Restaurants rarely carry sea bass, so I was super excited. They filet'd right in front of us, perfectly done by a manager. NICE TOUCH. Seasoned perfectly with lemon & olive juice. SOOOOO good. I asked the bartender if I could have broccoli rabe instead of potato- no problem.. The broccoli rabe was INSANE. when done right, it is the best, they hit the mark with that whole dish. Be prepared for an extremely long menu (even by tapas standards). If you're at all indecisive, come here with a friend who knows how to navigate the menu. The food is worth navigating the mess, and although I've only tried 0.5% of the menu offerings (that's all I could do with 4 tapas plates) I'm sure you'll find something to satisfy your palate. I forget the name of the winery, but they offer a really great red wine from the region of Italy where the owner is from. My husband and I chose Teca for dinner the day after Valentine' Day based on the online menu. We had a pretty good idea of what we would order before we arrived. We were extremely disappointed with our visit. There was a "special" Valentine's Day menu which was probably a quarter of the usual menu. My husband asked if he could order from the regular menu and was told no. None of the appetizers or main dishes that we originally wanted were offered. We ended up both settling for chicken parm because the choices were so limited and it was just okay. Also, the tables were so close together that it was uncomfortable. We heard the whole conversation of the people on either side of us, it was as if we were sitting at a family style table. He directed us through the wine and food selections like a pro to make sure that out experieince was wonderful. We had a fig based flatbread with bacon and gorgonzola that was tremendous. We had pasta and veal as our mains and each were well executed and true to description. We finished with cannoli and coffee under the stars al fresco on a beautful night in West Chester.
