A quality neighborhood bar. Saturday at 2 PM and the place is packed with some people not having seats. Seemed like an early rush for a bar. I don't know of a game going on today. The bartender at the time was particularly very friendly and I could tell he gave off the same vibe to everyone. As I left this bar with a friend, one of the (assumedly) local patrons was telling us we should've purposely nudged a guy seated so that we could more easily leave the bar instead of slowly crossing over. That particular patron looked back at the first guy very annoyed. The first guy was probably already at least semi-drunk and just kept trying to go on with his "joke". Another thing that surprises me is that this bar is closed all day Sunday and that they open at 8 AM according to the Yelp page and stay open until 2 AM. Those are mad hours This coming Sunday, there was a big game with Eagles versus the 49ers. I've never heard of a bar open so early in the morning and not open on Sundays. Not open on Sunday because a lot of regular church-goers in the area, or the staff need a break and maybe they would want to go to church? Reminds me of Chik-Fil-A without the super late hours and instead of family friendly style food and drink and chicken icon, booze instead. There were no smokers when me and my friend were there. I was thankful for that. It looks like PA started to ban smoking in all bars in 2021. Personally, don't miss it! I already have a hard enough time breathing and sleeping without being around that stuff! No food at this establishment. Quality drinks on tap and reasonable prices. Nice staff. Great little bar. Cheap on tap beers, friendly bartender, fun atmosphere. I have never seen a truly on tap before & was excited but disappointed with how flat it was. This first time I came to West Chester I was hitting the wrong bars. Not saying the other bars are bad, don't get me wrong my love for Ryan's, Saloon and Sprout (which is closed..) will always be in my heart. But the best bar in town is Jakes Bar! open 8am to 2am. great bar for the folks that work the night shift! My favorite part about Jakes Bar is that Dwayne and Derek remembered my choice of drink and shot. Dive bar is the exact definition of this place. It gets high ratings just because it's so divey. I hope no one sees the rating and thinks "wow that place must be awesome." It's not. It's just a quintessential dive bar that's beloved because it's so grimy and nostalgic. Also the fact that so many generations of college kids have good memories of this place. "Bro remember when we got hammered at Jake's before finals?" & "Bro remember when you threw up on Becky and then Becky threw up on you outside of Jake's? I've only been to Jakes once but I feel in love with this place as soon as I got there. They've got a jukebox for music, holds some pretty good music. Also, there's a tv to catch some sports. Cheap but good beer. The only thing that may be a downside for some is they have indoor smoking. Great dive bar and good people. read more

In the category of Dive-Bars, Jake's is definitely a 5-star winner. As Russ and Lee commented, they have the cheapest beers in West Chester and I've observed that the clientle is generally there for one reason and one reason only - to get their drink on. It's small and gets very crowded the later you're there (especially on weekends) so go early if you want to sit down. They have a shuffleboard game sandwiched behind the tables if you like to play and the neons are insanely bright. Duane is at once terse and pleasant and is indeed a living legend in West Chester. Jake's has been selling t-shirts with the year printed on them for as long as I can remember, and I regret not buying one when I first visited in the 90's. But, I still wear my "00" shirt with pride. Jake's is always a part of our annual "West Chester Dive Bar Crawl" along with the Square Bar, Jitter's, Ryan's, and Rex's. We don't have the courage for the Spare Rib - yet. read more

I may live in Philly, but I will stay true to my West Chester roots. Jakes is a staple in WC, and Duane the bartender is a living legend. It opens at 8 am, which is great for both local and college drunks alike. Jake's location is absolutely perfectly placed amongst the student housing area, and is not easily found by outsiders. Words can not describe my love for Jake's. I wish I was there right now. Not only is beer .50 cents at all times, they also have the cheapest take-out six packs I have ever found. I remember one night drinking Peels pounders from Jake's in Amore's bathroom with a group of friends. If you ever make it there, buy a $3 shirt, and wear it with pride. Oh Jake's, how I miss you. I've been away from WC for more years than I'd like to mention. I was happy to return to find that while most of WC has changed, Jake's is still holding strong. Duane is still the man. The beer is still astoundingly cheap. Your hours of operation are fantastic as well.
